Charter Review Examines Budget, Election Rules By Aaron Rubin Staff Writer
The Guilford Charter Revision Commission has spent its first meetings of the year discussing possible changes to legal language governing town meetings, budget referendums and local elections, according to commission Chairman Brendan Sharkey. The 11-member commission has held four
meetings, including a public hearing, to discuss its mission as established by the Board of Selectmen and potential changes it may recommend to town leaders. One amendment the commission may ultimately send to the Board of Selectmen would change the name of the board itself to the more gender-neutral “Selectboard,” Sharkey said.
He said the proposal is part of a broader effort to create gender-neutral language throughout the charter and that “selectboard is exactly the term that we’re going to use instead of the Board of Selectmen.” The commission has also focused on Chapters 3 and 7 of the Guilford Town Charter See Charter Review Examines page 12
