Town, Schools Cut $700K Ahead of Vote By Aaron Rubin Staff Writer
The Guilford Board of Selectmen and Board of Education collectively cut $700,000 from their budgets during meetings June 1, marking the second attempt to revise spending plans ahead of a third budget referendum scheduled for June 16.
The latest reductions lower total townwide expenditures to just over $127 million. The proposed budget represents a 4.41% spending increase over the current fiscal year, but a projected tax increase of 2.73%, according to First Selectman Matt Hoey. “That’s because of grand list growth, additional departmental revenues generated through permits and fees and so forth, and
some minor additions to state funding,” Hoey said. Hoey said the anticipated mill rate would be 28.4 if the revised budget is approved. He also noted that the projected 2.73% tax increase is below the 2026 Social Security cost-of-living adjustment of 2.8%. See Town, Schools Cut $700K page 6
