Revised Budget Fails in Second Vote By Aaron Rubin Staff Writer

Guilford taxpayers voted down the proposed fiscal year budget again in a second referendum held May 19. Official results reported by the town showed the budget failed by a vote of 2,258 to 2,154.

The revised budget totaled more than $128 million and cut $750,000 in spending from the initial proposal. Most of the reductions — about $525,000 — came from the Board of Education budget, which accounts for roughly $78 million of the town’s proposed spending for the next fiscal year. According to Guilford Public Schools Superintendent Paul

Freeman, most of the cuts affected staffing and administrative support for special education students.
