We asked our candidate David MacAskill why that was and what is the future for girls in this area. He replied “ Itʼs all about the presentation, the enthusiasm of the person talking about the subject and making things accessible”. ʻBeing able to see in action is important for a I CAN do that attitudeʼ. For the young people in Portsmouth being able to get ʻup close and personalʼ to the Racing Team technology, along with the messages of sustainability, partnerships in education with the University and the UTC - B.A.R may have underestimated the forecast of impact.
New Zealand reported an estimated $88million pounds to the local economy plus 1000 jobs in the short term - you can rest assured, with 10 years in the community Americas Cup commitment and the quest for success. I would like to be one of those people that provide the inspiration and the opportunity to celebrate the first S.T.E.M graduate, Homegrown talent from STEMCREW or the Portsmouth community with 1851.

With a background in Design Technology and product development he feels that STEM activities complement his teaching style and his method of delivery. Giving a fresh approach and a substantial challenge from a blank page. Being an award winner with the SouthEast regional Education Business Partnership for the ʻPromotion of Enterprise Education in schools and collegesʼ, the development of educational programmes and running strands through curriculum development is 2nd nature. Delivery using technology, interactive smart boards, confident in presentation, cad cam, plotter cutters and a range of design software, alongside recycling materials, making things from ʻjunkʼ gives him an ʻcreative edgeʼ.
Affable with a ʻCan Do ʻ attitude - ʻAnything is possibleʼ Inquisitive by nature there are many questions to be asked and as an inspiration it is the encouragement for young people to enjoy, engage and identify/associate themselves with STEM activities. The journey has to start somewhere. David believes REAL World activities are the most powerful way to learn and maintain knowledge. Not just doing something just for the sake of it.
An experienced teacher with a track record of providing Offsite learning, risk assessing and general day to day management of students gives David a platform of confidence to know he could benefit the 1851 Trust and theyʼd enjoy working with him.
