The ocean covers more than two-thirds of the Earth's surface and plays a vital role in supporting life. It provides food, produces oxygen, and is home to an amazing variety of marine animals and plants. Despite its importance, the ocean is facing a growing problem caused by plastic pollution. Every year, millions of plastic items end up in marine waters, putting sea life and ecosystems at serious risk. Reducing this pollution is one of the biggest environmental challenges of our time, as noted by David Hastings Marine Science. Plastic has become a part of everyday life because it is cheap, lightweight, and easy to use. People rely on plastic bags, bottles, cups, packaging, and many other disposable products. Unfortunately, much of this waste is not recycled properly. Instead, it is thrown onto streets, into rivers, or in open areas, where it is carried into the ocean. Since plastic does not break down quickly, it remains in the environment for many years and continues to accumulate.
