GET ENGAGED! JOIN A COMMITTEE. The strength of the Lakewood Ranch Business Alliance has long been its core of dedicated and hardworking volunteers. Today, nearly 150 individuals, across 8 committees, generously donate their time each month to make the Alliance the go-to business organization in the Lakewood Ranch region. Their passion and energy have been instrumental in shaping our organization. Becoming engaged in a committee is a fantastic way to make connections with fellow professionals to build long lasting relationships. Our 8 volunteer committees span across all facets of the LWRBA, offering something for everyone’s interests and skills. Not sure if a committee is right for you? We encourage anyone to join us for a meeting on a trial basis to get a better idea of how a committee operates. We are certain there is something for everyone. Communications Committee This committee is focused on all communications and technology that help our members connect with each other, with the Lakewood Ranch Community and our region as a whole. The committee is integral in working to protect our brand by overseeing both internal and external communications across all platforms, media, website, social media, eblasts etc. Meeting Time: 2nd Friday of the Month, 8:30 a.m. Time Commitment: 1-2 hours per month
Programming Committee The Programming Committee’s role is to plan and implement educational programs and events. They strengthen your business through education and learning by identifying relevant business topics, and vetting potential speakers. This committee focuses on helping members to be the best version of themselves, both personally and professionally, by creating exciting and relevant luncheons, LEADS programs, workshops and other specialized programming. Programming brings businesses, individuals and our region together. Meeting Time: 1st Monday of the Month, 4:00 p.m. Time Commitment: 2-3 hours per month
Membership Committee The Membership team is focused on engaging and retaining our current members, as well as identifying and inviting new prospective businesses to become members of the Alliance. This committee shares the benefits of the Alliance, welcomes new members, hosts membership appreciation events, assists with member ribbon cuttings and identifies potential new members. Meeting Time: 1st Tuesday of the Month, 4:00 p.m. Time Commitment: 2-3 hours per month

Events Committee This committee is tasked with creating unique and special occasions that will provide opportunities for our members to connect and engage with one another. This fun and lively group is responsible for the monthly networking socials, and signature events. Committee members have the opportunity to volunteer at Alliance events and programs. Meeting Time: 3rd Monday of the Month, 4:00 p.m. Time Commitment: 2-3 hours per month
Economic Development Committee This committee is focused on strengthening Alliance relationships with the local Economic Development Corporations, with SMR and with local business owners. This committee is a resource of community knowledge and connection for any Alliance member and new businesses looking to relocate to LWR. Meeting Time: 4th Tuesday of the Month, 4:00 p.m. Time Commitment: 1-2 hours per month
Governmental Affairs Committee The GAC committee is responsible for strengthening Alliance relationships with all local, regional and state government officials. This committee stays at the forefront of all governmental issues that could impact our members or business community. Note: The GAC committee requires an application process to participate. Meeting Time: 2nd Wednesday of the Month, 4:00 p.m. Time Commitment: 1-2 hours per month
Young Leaders Alliance (YLA) The purpose of this committee is to provide opportunities for young professionals to enhance their leadership, communications and project management skills by creating events and programs specifically for the YLA organization. Meeting Time: 2nd Monday of the Month, 4:00 p.m. Time Commitment: 1-2 hours per month
Community Engagement Committee This committee works with member non-profits and other regional partners to bring the needs of our community to our members. Through initiatives such as our annual Alliance Gives Back Volunteer Days, the committee connects non-profits with the business community to strengthen our region. We offer all lines of insurance: home, auto, umbrella, life, health, RV, boat, motorcycle, business, etc. What does a typical day look like for you? Nicole: Interacting with clients and the community. Coaching and training for myself and my team so that we are always growing professionally. Daily Operations-Talent Acquisition, Marketing, Planning & Finance If you could use one word to describe the LWR community, what would it be and why? Bob: Passionate – Everyone I meet in the community is committed and passionate about the LWR community and move the community forward. I love doing business here! What do you like about doing business in LWR? Nicole: The strong sense of community, like extended family! How has the LWRBA helped make connections? Bob: Being somewhat new to the community, it has been extremely helpful in getting to know other business owners through networking and social gatherings. What is your favorite “fun thing to do” when you’re not working? Nicole: I am an Orchid-aholic and basically enjoy growing about anything. I also love being creative: painting, resin art, and making things on my Cricut for my granddaughter Demi and others. Bob: I love most being with my family (granddaughter), boating, fishing, great culinary experiences, and travel!

Current Technologies is an Information Technology (IT) and Physical Security Systems Consulting Firm specializing in IT products, software, and services, as well as Video Surveillance, Analytics, and Access Control Solutions. As VP of Business Development, I research and identify new business opportunities to help generate revenue, grow business, and develop relationships. What does a typical day look like for you? My typical day involves meetings and networking to connect with businesses and people to share who Current Technologies is, what solutions Current Technologies offers, why Current Technologies is a valuable resource, and how Current Technologies provides customized, right technology solutions. If you could use one word to describe the LWR community, what would it be and why? I would describe LWR as CONNECTED. Personally and professionally LWR is the definition of community with shared common goals of helping one another. What is your favorite “fun thing to do” when you’re not working? WILLIAM SKAGGS CEO The Players Centre for Performing Arts Describe your job/position? As CEO, I have responsibility for the overall strategic direction, planning, budgeting, personnel, and operations. However, in an organization as active and productive as ours that often means putting on various hats to assist wherever needed. Who is your ideal customer? How many “ideal customers” do I get to name? The Players Centre caters to so many unique needs, desires, and types of people that there is no single ideal. For instance, families are “ideal” due to our work in performing arts education and training through The Players Studio. Working professionals are “ideal” because we offer fantastic experiences for couples or clients when they attend high-quality live theatre. Retirees are “ideal” as they may attend performances, choose to volunteer, or both. As you can see, a community theatre’s “ideal customer” is diverse and spans the entire community. If you could use one word to describe the LWR community, what would it be and why? Exciting! The desire to create an area focused on the ability to live, work, and play is exciting for me and for The Players Centre as we generate further community buy-in surrounding the value of a new performing arts center. What do you like about doing business in LWR? The growth and energy are wonderful as well as the multi-generational makeup of the area. There are always new people to meet and at the same time, the opportunity to continue building relationships with those you already know. There is also a desire to build community which is a perfect match with The Players Centre’s mission to entertain, educate, and engage the community through high-quality live theatre. What is your favorite “fun thing to do” when you’re not working? A beautiful time at the beach with family and close friends followed by a meal of local seafood makes for an amazing day.

LYNN RASYS Executive Director Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation What does a typical day look like for you? 2021 has continued with Zoom meetings with staff, donors and sponsors, emails and phone calls since we are still working from home. Overall management of fundraising for the Foundation to enable us to provide financial assistance to cancer patients in need. Who is your ideal customer? Our clients are patients who are applying for financial aid while they fight cancer. What do you like about doing business in LWR? I like doing business in LWR to support LOCAL businesses and continually refer business to each other. How has the LWRBA helped make connections? Just being a member was not enough. I became more involved by joining the Community Engagement Committee, and Chair of Alliance Gives Back 2021, and selected as a mentor of YLA’s Mentor Connect. I have learned more about businesses in the area (for profit and nonprofit) and able to make new connections and new friends by being actively involved. LWRBA is the best organization I have been involved with by far! What is your favorite “fun thing to do” when you’re not working? JAVAR BAITY College Success Coach Take Stock in Children of Manatee County What is your business? Take Stock in Children of Manatee County is a nonprofit with a mission of defeating poverty through education and mentoring, with support from the community! Each student in the program is awarded a scholarship upon graduation. Take Stock in Children has served Manatee County for the past 26 years providing nearly 800 scholarships in the process! Describe your job/position? As a College Success Coach within the program, the main objective is to prepare all of our scholars for their newfound pathway to college. This includes college readiness meetings with each individual student multiple times throughout the year, career exploration, assistance in the college application process, additional scholarship funding help, and guidance setting up financial aid. If you could use one word to describe the LWR community, what would it be and why? Trailblazing. LWR’s massive growth can be seen on a daily basis as more businesses from a plethora of industries continue to plant new flags in the community- while also looking to connect to what has already been established. How has the LWRBA helped make connections? The Alliance serves as a great mediator between businesses and nonprofit organizations in a multitude of ways. Take Stock has gotten great exposure as a member with contributions to our organization by way of volunteer mentors, fundraising, and event marketing! Do you live in Lakewood Ranch? If so, since when? I have been a product of Lakewood Ranch my entire life, watching the community grow firsthand and enjoying many varieties of the services and businesses that are offered.

OPEN FOR BUSINESS FLORIDA’S SUNCOAST REGION CONTINUES TO BOOM Florida, within the past several years, has swiftly evolved into a new landscape of opportunity for everyone from families to major companies – all spurred by an enticing business-friendly environment blended with its already-renowned beaches, climate and amenities. And, according to 2020 data from the U.S. Census Bureau, Florida was one of just a few states to experience population growth over the span of a decade as nearly 1,000 people per day now flock to our region. A move to Florida, that was once just a transitory thought, has rapidly become a serious consideration when the appearance of the coronavirus pandemic resulted in states in the West, Northeast and Midwest implementing lockdowns that placed a stranglehold on economies nationwide. The Suncoast Region – Sarasota and Manatee counties, in particular – is no stranger to widespread growth, which continues to shape the area into one of the most desirable places to live, work and play in the country. The area’s rapid success driven by migration and tourism is embodied in the Lakewood Ranch Region, the 50-square-mile master-planned community serving as the eastern epicenter between the two counties. According to John Holz, the economic development chair for the Lakewood Ranch Business Alliance, evidence suggests that, within the last five years, roughly 1,900 businesses have either started from the ground up, added on or fully relocated to the region. “I can say that what makes the Suncoast a unique place to work and play is that there is still huge growth opportunity. We are not saturated yet,” Holz said. “We have land, and we have in Lakewood Ranch one of the nation’s most sincere, thoughtfully-planned communities. It has been crafted with utmost care. “We have a great transportation network and four airports within an hour with plenty of nonstop flights. We have two seaports within an hour. The people here are welcoming and helpful and the jurisdictions are business-friendly. Lakewood Ranch has benefitted by positioning itself at the intersection of two prosperous counties.” Sarasota, named the nation’s ninth-best place to live by U.S. News & World Report in July, played a major role in regional growth with a diversified economy. According to Lisa Krause, the CEO of the Economic Development Corporation of Sarasota County, manufacturing has

been a key piece of that success. Most recently, the county’s exclusive Economic Development Incentive Grants helped drive three projects that are estimated to create 265 new manufacturing jobs with a potential investment of more than $6 million. More than 450 manufacturing companies now call the area home. The Sarasota-Manatee Area, with more than 16,000 people working in the industry, according to Enterprise Florida data, ranks just second behind Tampa as the largest manufacturing employer on the state’s West Coast. “Florida’s low personal and corporate income tax earned us a reputation as being a business-friendly state long before COVID. Many businesses had considered making the move to the Sunshine State, but the pandemic may have positively influenced a relocation,” Krause said. “… Although each business story is different, our message is that ‘Sarasota County is the best place to do business,’ and we are on point to assist in any way for that business.” Sharon Hillstrom, the President and CEO of the Bradenton Area Economic Development Corporation, said Manatee County, specifically, saw 13 new businesses – a corporate headquarters, three distribution centers and nine advanced manufacturing facilities – established in the area since January 2020. The region’s attractive features, such as Port Manatee’s unrivaled access to the Panama Canal to a consumer market of 4.8 million and more than 1,000 acres of shovel-ready land for industry, have strategically helped the county grow 23.8% since 2010, according to Census data. And it all leads to the Lakewood Ranch Region, which was named the nation’s best-selling multi-generational community in July by real estate consulting firm RCLCO. The intersection of University Parkway and I-75 is a catalyst for the region’s footprint with ongoing projects like Mote SEA, the $130 million state-of-the-art aquarium under construction in Nathan Benderson Park, to hundreds of millions in highway improvements stretching to Fruitville Road and State Road 64. “Manatee County on Florida’s West Coast has experienced rapid population growth,” Hillstrom said. “The award-winning, number one, multi-generational planned community in the United States, Lakewood Ranch, certainly has been a significant driver of population growth for the county.” With the burgeoning growth of business, a surging population and booming real estate market across both counties, the Lakewood Ranch Region turns to a new chapter as an unrivaled destination for opportunity. 2022 VISION WATERSIDE PLACE Nestled on a 36-acre peninsula just minutes from Interstate 75 and downtown Sarasota, Waterside is the new jewel in Lakewood Ranch’s crown. “We’re so excited about this community,” says Monaca Onstad, director of community relations for Lakewood Ranch Communities. “It’s absolutely beautiful and offers a fantastic mix of essential services and fun where people can live, work and play.” The heart of this bustling community is Waterside Place, an inviting town center that boasts an engaging mix of retail, dining, lodging, and entertainment options perched on the shores of Kingfisher Lake, a beautiful expanse of water one mile long by half a mile wide and home to an eight-acre island park. This stunning town center will be home to an ongoing series of events including live bands, movie nights, and annual visits from Santa. It also boasts an array of inviting pocket parks featuring amenities such as hammocks and exercise stations for visitors to enjoy. There’s a working marina too, which will offer visitors and residents the opportunity to enjoy Kingfisher Lake through kayak rentals and, beginning next year, water taxi services. “We’ve placed a lot of emphasis on the activation piece, which we think visitors and residents will really enjoy,” explains Onstad. Waterside Place is also the new permanent home of the Lakewood Ranch Farmers’ Market and the Players Centre theater as well as a mix of apartments and condominiums. “The Botanic is completed and offers some 300 apartments and we’ve started building more units on the east side of the town center as well,” notes Onstad. “We also have 22 town home rentals, all of which are leased. “Retail space is filling up quickly too,” she observes. “As of September, we’re about 60 percent leased, and we’re excited about the tenants we’re getting—we’ve worked very hard to ensure the right mix.” With so many places to shop, dine and recreate, there’s no doubt that when Waterside Place opens in November of 2021, it will quickly become another go-to spot in Lakewood Ranch. “It’s a destination in itself,” Onstad concludes.

CENTER POINT AT WATERSIDE There’s a flurry of activity underway at the corner of University and Lakewood Ranch Boulevard, the future home of Center Point at Waterside, Casto Development’s new mixed use development project. The site is designed around a health and wellness theme, explains Casto’s president Brett Hutchens, and will include a carefully curated mix of project shops and small restaurants as well as several boutique fitness operators. Among the featured tenants is Chamberlin’s Natural Foods, a 10,000 square foot organic and natural grocery. “We’ll also be providing a selection of higher end, high energy restaurants such as Owens Fish Camp, Olivia, and at least one other high end, dinner-only restaurant,” says Hutchens. The Center will include amenities requested by LWR residents as well, including a convenient gas station and upscale car wash. Expect continuing new tenant announcements in the coming months, says Hutchens. Residents can expect to see Center Point’s retail and dining establishments open in phases beginning in the first half of 2022. Hutchens anticipates the entire complex will be fully open in late 2022 to early 2023.

Oceans for All Shapes Southwest Florida as a “Silicon Valley” for Marine Science The clear, emerald-hued waters and sugary-white beaches spanning Southwest Florida have created, over time, a natural sanctuary for dolphins, manatees, sea turtles and wide-ranging species of fish. Its beautiful features and bountiful populations of undersea life were a driving force behind the late Dr. Eugenie Clark, a world authority on sharks and fish, establishing Cape Haze Marine Laboratory – now Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium – more than 65 years ago. Her desire was to research and kickstart conservation of a unique habitat that currently entices millions of tourists yearly to the area. And, from the Gulf of Mexico to the many miles of pristine bays, Southwest Florida’s natural beauty has been a direct beneficiary of Mote’s expanding legacy as a renowned leader for ocean research, attracting scientists from across the world and providing hands-on education that impacts eager learners from local children to seniors. A vital footprint that began with Clark in a one-room laboratory in Placida, Fla. in 1955, later led to its longstanding, primary research facility and aquarium located on Sarasota’s City Island. Part of the next chapter for Mote, however, is emerging in the Lakewood Ranch Region on a 12-acre tract of land under construction on the northern end of Nathan Benderson Park. And it’s summed up neatly on a large banner – “Coming Soon” in white, bold letters displayed next to a breathtaking rendering of a tall, reflective building shown shimmering off the park’s network of world-class lakes – fastened to the metal fence surrounding the site. It’s the not-so-distant future home for Mote Science Education Aquarium (Mote SEA), which will be a three-story, 110,000-square-foot facility that unlocks easy access to more than one million gallons of exhibits filled with wildlife from around the world’s oceans and remote habitats. Oceans for All: Improving Access to Marine Science and Technology is the $130-million campaign behind the vision for Mote SEA. Moving Mote’s public outreach and educational offerings to the Lakewood Ranch Region – the nation’s best-selling, multi-generational community – will allow for the transformation of Mote’s City Island campus, which will become devoted solely to research that further benefits the world’s waterways.

The move to the Lakewood Ranch Region is essentially the first step for Mote’s transformative goals for the next decade: increasing access to marine science and technology at Mote SEA and the eventual creation of a “Silicon Valley” for marine science and technology that places the nation’s focus on Southwest Florida. “The rebirth of our Aquarium as the new Mote SEA at a mainland nexus location between Manatee and Sarasota Counties is a critical step for the evolution of Mote’s City Island research campus into an International Marine Science, Technology & Innovation Park,” said Dr. Michael P. Crosby, President & CEO of the independent nonprofit marine research and STEM education institution. “This will provide Mote researchers, and partnering science and technology entrepreneurs from around the world the expanded 21st century infrastructure required to both address the significant threats facing Earth’s oceans and create intellectual property that will seed the growth of Southwest Florida into a Silicon Valley of marine science and technology. Together, Mote SEA and the Mote International Marine Science, Technology & Innovation Park will broaden our region’s global leadership in enhancing ocean literacy throughout society and providing science-based solutions for addressing grand challenges facing our oceans.” An Ocean for All is Just a Short Drive Away Mote SEA, which shifted from concept to reality following a groundbreaking ceremony for the facility in November 2020, is designed to create a state-ofthe-art aquarium that resonates with pre-kindergarten children to retirees. And its goal of providing affordable – even no-cost – science education to people of all backgrounds and economic status is further achieved by its strategic placement at Nathan Benderson Park near University Town Center Mall. Mote SEA’s expansive facility will be easily seen from the bustling intersection of University Parkway and I-75, which hosts more than 60,000 daily drivers. Continued on next page. LIFE ON THE RANCH

The aquarium’s move off City Island, now a roughly 30-minute drive from I-75, doubles Mote’s annual visitor projections from 350,000 at its existing site to roughly 700,000 patrons. This creates an educational hub the Lakewood Ranch Region otherwise wouldn’t possess, as Mote SEA will incorporate features geared toward exposing a new generation to the marvels of science via three interactive STEM teaching labs, designed for K-12 students, and two STEM research training labs for high schoolers and college undergraduates. Extensive exhibits, interactive displays and augmented reality will also educate regional residents and tourist visitors alike about Mote’s current work to preserve the health of oceans. In 2019, accredited members of the Association of Zoos & Aquariums, including Mote, spent more than $230 million on field conservation work in 127 countries. Mote SEA, ultimately, will create a forward-thinking, fresh look at conservation – the very core of what’s kept Southwest Florida an internationally-renowned location. The capital project also shapes the Lakewood Ranch Region’s 50-square-mile economic environment. Mote SEA is projected to add 261 direct and indirect jobs locally while creating $27.9 million in economic benefits annually for the state of Florida – more than double what the organization’s current site offers. And that doesn’t include an estimated $280 million economic impact during the years of construction to complete the project. Island campus for roughly 60,000-square feet of additional space devoted solely to marine science: medicinal chemistry labs, ocean technology, robotics, facilities for scientists from across the world, and an expansion of rescue and rehabilitation programs for injured marine life. This molds the foundation for an International Marine Science, Technology & Innovation Park, where intellectual properties, harnessed and created, will spur the formation of new companies and generate quality science and technology careers. It’s the perfect storm for kickstarting a newer, greater phase of Florida’s “Blue Economy,” which is, according to the Florida Ocean Alliance in 2020, a more than $73.9 billion industry built on use of the state’s oceanic and coastal resources. These environmental resources are currently threatened by declining water quality and deteriorating assets, according to an August report from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Oceans for All, in essence, is the beacon guiding the state’s next age of innovation for an ecosystem that benefits all. “Our coastal ecosystem is extremely productive, and commercial and recreational fishing and shellfishing have always been important to this region. The diverse ocean and coastal habitats of our region support many charismatic species such as manatees, sharks, dolphins and sea turtles,” Crosby said. “Sarasota County is the Gulf of Mexico’s densest area for sea turtle nesting. This entire region is known for its sportfishing, including snook, tarpon, redfish, and more. Just offshore, the Gulf of Mexico is dotted with blue holes, which are deep underwater caverns and sinkholes that Mote scientists are exploring. “… The community has also always been extremely supportive. Sarasota-Manatee is an extremely philanthropic community, and they’ve supported Mote since our founding with Dr. Clark, where the community came together to bring the lab to Sarasota.” The Ocean is Calling You Oceans for All, which has raised $75 million towards Mote SEA with additional major milestones on the horizon, is a cause in which everyone is a direct beneficiary.
