TDA - The Best of the Best! We are so excited to announce that with all of your support and votes, The Dance Attic has been awarded the 2023 Best Dance Studio! Ms. Wanda and Ms. Hallie represented the banquet at the beginning of November where many local businesses and community leaders represented the Wake area! Impact Dancer of The Month: This Months “IMPACT Dancer of The Month” has been selected based on their dedication and improvement in class as well as their kindness towards their peers, families, and staff through their positive IMPACT they make on the studio environment as a whole. Our Impact Dancer will get to select a charity of their choice for The Dance Attic to make a $50 donation in their name. Once the charity is chosen by the dancer and their family, we will share that information with our families in the following Newsletter. Danica Melton Danica was chosen as TDA’s impact dancer of the month for many reasons: The moment she walks through the door she is a light. She greets every single dancer and staff member and does so with a smile on her face that is genuine and warm. Stepping into the classroom, Danica’s work ethic is appreciated by all staff. She not only works hard when she’s on the Marley but she also comes prepared to every class/rehearsal having practiced her choreography and even by helping her peers. Finally, taking on a leadership role, Danica is an amazing TA. Treating her students with the same kindness and care that she gives to us all. We are proud to celebrate Danica this month and the impact she is making on our dance community.
October Winner: Isabelle Cusick has chosen Saving Grace as her Impact Charity. The Dance Attic has donated $50 in Isabelle’s Name to the charity of her choice. Saving Grace Animals for Adoption is a non-profit organization dedicated to lowering euthanasia rates and promoting adoption in North Carolina for local dogs. https://savinggracenc.org/ Leaving Our Imprint: This month The Dance Attic will focus our Imprint efforts towards Aven’s Angels and we are so humbled to be working for a charity that hits so close to home for so many here at TDA, as many of you and your dancers might have known sweet Aven. The Dance Attic Staff would like to challenge our families to bring in three items for Aven’s Angels! We will take collections up until December 8th. There are online options for any dancers/families that bring donations in during that week, you will be featured in our Newsletter and social media as Imprint Challenge Dancers for this month! We appreciate your support!
CLICK HERE to see all of the details from Amazing Aven’s Quest for Amoeba Awareness! To Make a Toy Donation: Purchase a new, unwrapped gift & drop it off at The Dance Attic! You must attach a receipt showing the fair Market Value of the gift. All gifts must weigh less than 20 lbs. and be sure not to include any food, drinks, homemade goods, or religious items. Gifts for all ages (infants to teens) are appreciated. We will be collecting toys at TDA until December 8th!
TDA at The Rolesville Christmas Parade: The Dance Attic will be performing in The Rolesville
Christmas Parade on Sunday, December 3th. CLICK HERE to view the Rolesville Info Page to follow for guidelines and expectations for the Parade. Drop Off & Entry Number: TDA will line up at 12:30 pm in the Thales Parking Lot in Rolesville. If you’re dropping off a participant, you may only enter the Thales lot via Grand Rock Way, unless you are on foot. If you are dropping of Participants, move down to the Dropping Off Participants section. We do not find out entry number until the day of the parade, so we will post it on Facebook at about 11:30 am on the day of the parade. Pick Up: We suggest that parents follow along after you have seen your dancer dance in the Parade. TDA Staff and Teacher Assistant will be corralling dancers in a big circle where the parade ends. Parents, please pick up immediately and be on the lookout for the big crowd in red sunglasses. Parade Routine: TDA Dancers on Monday Combo and up are welcome to dance in the parade with the parade routine taught in class; however, the parade route can be a little long for our little dancers. Our Creative Movement classes as well as Monday Combo dancers and families can decorate wagons for parents to pull your dancers in if you choose. If your child would rather walk, that’s fine, but we recommend a wagon because they do get tired on the walk. You can decorate the wagons anyway you want and we will be sharing our awesome wagons on Facebook for everyone to see. What to Wear: We will wear our 2023-24 Red TDA Shirts (with white turtlenecks underneath if it’s cold). If you or your dancer is dancing, you will need black dance-able pants/leggings and solid colored tennis shoes. You will wear your hair in a low slick ponytail, and feel free to add makeup to make your dancer feel special. All dancers will also wear their red heart glasses that they will receive in November. TDAC Members you will receive a separate email for your parade expectations.
TDA Blood Drive:
TDA Classes Cancelled December 4th! We have already reached out to the dancers who are directly impacted by this cancellation. So that we are all on the same page: the studio will be closed on Monday December 4th due to a studio outing that will take the staff away from the studio that evening. With that being said, we are offering make up class time for all impacted by the closing. CLICK HERE to view the make-up class times we are able to offer you and, if you plan to attend the make-up times, please add your name to the slot you plan to attend. Creative Movement classes have two different time options to choose from on Thursday December 7th, while Monday Combo dancers are invited to classes on Tuesday December 5th. Thank you in advance for your understanding and patience as the staff heads to a surprise event alongside some of our older dancers. If you have any further questions, let us know!
TDAC Performing at The Lodge
The Dance Attic Competitive team will be performing at The Lodge Senior Center on Friday December 8th! Dancers are looking forward to their 2nd performance of the season so far as they make a lasting Imprint on the residents there.
We are so excited about our partnership with the American Red Cross as we host a Blood Drive at The Dance Attic. Our Blood Drive will be on Site at The Dance Attic on December 11th, from 9:00am-3:00pm. We are looking forward to coming together and giving back to our community as we head into the Holiday Season. Class of 2024 Features: Each month we will recognize two of our seniors in our Class of 2024 Features. Read below to learn a little more about two of our awesome seniors. Isayah Meadows What Impact has The Dance Attic made on your life and how do you hope to leave your Imprint on The Dance Attic before graduation? The impact that The Dance Attic has left on me. Is that it isn’t just a dance company but a dance
family where everyone feels welcome and respected to be themselves and be the best dancer they can be. Another thing that The Dance Attic has left on me is just seeing all types of dancers we have and them being able to dance together and have fun and do amazing choreo from our dance teachers even with the substitute dance teachers. I hope that the Imprint I leave on The Dance Attic is. Letting all the dancers know that you can have fun and be silly at times in class but when it is time to focus you have to listen and put thousand percent effort in. Also just make sure that you make someone smile or laugh because even a simple simile or laugh could make someone’s day better. Kiana Gabrielli What Impact has The Dance Attic made on your life and how do you hope to leave your Imprint on The Dance Attic before graduation?
Being a dancer at TDA has profoundly impacted my life in numerous ways. Not only has it honed my skills and passion for dance, but has also shaped me into a more disciplined, confident, and determined individual. First and foremost, Dance Attic has provided me with a supportive and nurturing environment in which I could cultivate my love for dance. The guidance and mentorship of my teachers have helped me grow tremendously as a person and dancer and has fueled my motivation to continually strive for excellence and reach new goals in my dancing abilities. Not only that, but the sense of community TDA brings. Being surrounded by others who have a passion for dance has allowed me to gain lifelong friendships in which we all support each other, celebrate successes, and navigate challenges. This sense of belonging is why I like to call TDA my second home, and is a place that brings me such joy each time I walk into the building. As my time at TDA approaches to an end, I aspire to leave a lasting and positive impact on the studio. My main goal is to foster a sense of unity and support within our studio. By actively engaging with my peers, offering encouragement, and being a reliable and empathetic teammate, I hope to contribute to a positive and inclusive atmosphere. I want to create an environment where dancers feel comfortable expressing themselves, sharing ideas, and pushing their boundaries to strive for their personal best. As nobody is perfect, I also hope younger dancers understand this as well. I, to this day, still make personal mistakes and have things I can work for; meaning, I want them to also understand they don’t have to be “perfect” to be perfect. By being themselves and keeping a positive attitude is the best thing they can do as an individual and for their peers. Before graduation I want to be remembered not just for my dancing abilities but for making a difference by uplifting and empowering those around me.
TDA Recreational Dancers Head to Competition: Each year our studio participates in a local competition. This is a great opportunity for dancers of a certain age to experience performing and interacting with other dance studios. It is a very positive experience, and all of the dancers are rewarded for their hard work! Your competition fees were processed on November 15th along with other TDA Fees. Please know, we will not know the specific days and times for each dancer until 7-10 days before the competition date. You will receive more info later in the year. Also, please note that all tuition and outstanding payments must be paid to receive your costumes and to participate in the competition. If you have conflict with this date, please send an email to info@thedanceattic.com immediately. Staff has also selected dancers to be Award Collectors at the competition. CLICK HERE to check and see if this applies to your dancers and the responsibilities that come with that. If you were selected as an award collector you will need to confirm via the document above by February 1 st. The Following groups will be competing. If your child is one of our Creative Movement classes (a-e) they will not complete: Our studio will be competing in Star Talent Productions Dance Competition on the weekend of April 12-14 in Henderson, NC! TDA Holiday Spirit Week: Join us as we celebrate our Holiday Spirit in the studio throughout the week of December 11th-14th! We will take lots of pictures to captures these fun memories and moments! Monday December 11th: Holiday Movie Character Day! Tuesday December 12th: Holiday Pajamas! Wednesday December 13th: Dress Like a Present! Thursday December 14th: Dress Like one of your JOLLY Dance Teachers!
TDA Staff Transition: As the Calendar Year is coming to a close, it is time for Ms. Ari to transition and move to Atlanta, Georgia with her new husband. TDA so appreciates you staying with us as we take on this transition together. Ms. Ari has been a staple teacher and choreographer here at The Dance Attic since she starting dancing here in 2011. Ms. Ari to say you will be missed will be an understatement, and we just want to thank you for all that you have done for all of us here at TDA! As Ms. Ari makes her big move, we are excited to welcome Ms. Heather to help us still feel right at home. Thank you to you both for working together on making this transition smooth for TDA! For anyone that would like to bring flowers, cards, etc. for Ms. Ari we are asking that you bring them in during the week of December 11-14th and we will pass those along to Ms. Ari!
TDA Nutcracker Educational Experience: TDA Dancers worked so hard in class on their small choreography projects inspired by the Nutcracker! You can view photos and pictures of the event in the Recreational Drive linked below!
TDAC at Wake Forest Holiday Cares Event: A few of our TDAC Dancers went out to perform at the Wake Forest Holiday Care Event in Mid-November! Congratulations on your performance, and thank you to those you came out and supported as these dancers took the stage!
TDAC at Titans Dance Convention: TDAC also went out to Durham in November to participate in the Titans Dance Convention, where they got to take six hours of classes with different instructors for various styles. Dancers enjoyed the day of hard work and creative classes. Congratulations to Emma Blackmon, Kayla Moye, and Sylvia Donahoe on their scholarships this weekend! TDA will be closed for Winter Break Wednesday December 20th-Tuesday January 2nd. Class will resume Wednesday January 3rd! Please read our Facebook posts for important and quick announcements. Please remember to wear the proper dance clothes and shoes to class. If you are not sure what shoes you should wear, please ask your instructor. If you are not prepared for your ballet classes alternative notes and other tasks might be given due to lack of preparation for our advanced class dancers. Emails have been sent to our advanced dancers as a reminder of this. Write your dancer's name on all dance gear (shoes, bag, jacket, water bottles etc.). If something is lost the "lost and found" is no longer in dressing rooms but we will assist dancers in looking for missing items, and will keep up with things left in the studios. We will be donating all unclaimed lost and found items to Goodwill. Please check and claim your belongings before we close for winter break. If you are a parent of one of our youngest dancers, please try and help them visit the restroom before class to avoid breaks in instructional time. TDA Administration will draft accounts for fees on the 1st and 15th of the months, or close to these dates around holidays or busy events. Please be aware of these dates and make sure they are on your calendar. Your Newsletter will be sent out on the 25th of each month. Dancers should have received their red heart sunglasses accessory for the parade and competition. If they have not, make sure that they do next time you are at the studio! We hope to have you all join us for the January Adult Class as Ms. Heather comes home and teaches Hip Hop for our Adults in the new year!
