Skills Training

Purpose of Grant:

For over 40 years, Employment Solutions (ES) at Tarrant County's Women’s Center (TWC) has advanced economic security for adult women, specifically those serving as sole providers for their families Utilizing the evidence-based Working Families Success Model, the program integrates personalized career exploration, financial coaching in partnership with Pathfinders, and comprehensive benefit screenings. This holistic approach is designed to move women out of the cycle of low-wage, part-time work and into sustainable career pathways
A critical component of this continuum is Skills Training (ST), which provides access to shortterm certifications (six weeks to six months) in high-growth industries such as Healthcare, Manufacturing, IT, and Logistics. Recognizing that the average cost of $2,500 per client can be a significant barrier, TWC identifies high-aptitude participants and provides them with a "survival plan" that includes wrap-around support and job search assistance. While a new partnership with the Texas Self-Sufficiency Fund (TSSF) will launch in May 2026, those funds are capped at $2,500 per person and do not cover essential auxiliary costs or higher-tier certifications.
The program primarily serves single female heads of household, including grandmothers and caregivers for individuals with disabilities, who navigate an economy built for dual-income homes Of the seven hundred annual enrollees, 81% are female and 62% are single parents Because TWC also operates rape crisis and mental health counseling services, the ES program is uniquely equipped with trauma-informed staff who understand the intersecting barriers of violence, mental health, and poverty that disproportionately affect women.
Grant support will be used to bridge the funding gap left by the TSSF cap and cover noneligible expenses, such as advanced training fees and vital wraparound services. This investment will enable thirty-five women to complete occupational skills training, allowing them to overcome immediate financial barriers, build professional confidence, and secure roles in industries offering living wages and comprehensive benefits By strengthening internal infrastructure and stabilizing the training pipeline, these efforts ensure that Tarrant County’s most vulnerable workers are prepared to fill the region's high-demand job openings.
Purpose of Organization:
To inspire and empower women, men and children to overcome violence, crisis and poverty
