A LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT LANCE LANE Let me begin by saying that it has been a privilege and honor to be elected as the President of the Board of Directors. I have been a member of DAC for 21 years and have been a part of the wonderful changes that are taking place every day. It’s a great time at DAC! I would be remiss if I didn’t take this opportunity to welcome our new board members. This year, the membership elected Kris Moldovan, Matt Sisk and Jim Koch to the Board of Directors. These gentlemen, with their experience and leadership ability, will make a fine addition to the leadership of the Club. We give personal thanks to our past President, Warren Sibley, who led us through the pandemic and the completion of many successful projects from which we are now benefitting. His leadership is greatly appreciated! I also want to recognize and thank our newly elected committee chairs and officers who will carry on the accomplishments of those before them. I salute every board member who continues to make significant contributions to our Club throughout the year. Their names are listed in this newsletter, and they are here to serve you. These are exciting times at the Club. The summer season begins with our Memorial Day pool opening. This year we have resurfaced the pool deck and the splash pad, and we also installed a new diving board.

events to help you make plans for your summer. Look for announcements in your e-blast for Music on the Lawn, Mother’s Day reservations and many other events for May and June. Our membership numbers continue to rise. As of this writing, the Athletic and Tennis memberships are full. Our monthly member retention is excellent, with very few members leaving. This of course, adds to the waitlist time for our new member applicants. We continue to review the membership status of our Club and our initiation fees for all membership levels. DAC is well positioned moving forward over the upcoming years. We have a full calendar of exciting events for all Club members. Remember to make reservations early as we have waitlists for just about everything offered by the Club. This is a testament to the great work that our staff is doing throughout the year. Please remember to thank them for their hard work. In conclusion, let me again say what a privilege it is to serve this Club and its members. We are experiencing great times at DAC. I look forward to seeing you all at the Club!

Lance Lane President

The lawn between the pool and the Clubhouse is now completed and a retaining wall was added. We’re going to have a great space for our big events and a safe place for our children to play. The level surface will enhance our upcoming Fourth of July Celebration. This edition of the Newsletter is full of upcoming

From the Desk of Cari Wheatley What an exciting time to be a member at Dallas Athletic Club! The Club bursts with activity: families filling the patio and lawn for Wednesday Family Night dinners, tennis courts packed with leagues and drills, and the golf course is buzzing with tournaments, fitting days, and play days. We are excited to see members sharing the Club with their friends and recommending new members to the Club. For your convenience, Membership information can be found on the private side of the website under the “My Club” tab, at the front desk, or you can contact me directly and I would be delighted to send the information directly to your friends, family and colleagues. Please keep in mind, becoming a member of the Club now takes longer as we have a waitlist for all membership categories. If they are not ready to commit just yet or are on the waitlist, I encourage you to invite them to experience your Club first hand and get to know some of the other members. Check out all of the fun events coming up at DAC in this publication, on the website, and on the App. We look forward to a summer of FUN at DAC! Cheers,

CariWheatley

Course Conditions by Travis Moore, Course Superintendent May and June are two of my favorite months on the course. Our bentgrass greens are loving the spring weather and we are able to focus on providing faster and firmer playing conditions this time of year. The bermudagrass on our tees, fairways, and roughs has “greened up” and is now starting to actively grow. We prefer a long cool spring for our greens, but the warmer temperatures are certainly needed to help other areas recover from stresses such as cart traffic and divots. By mid-June, we will gradually shift our maintenance practices on greens to help the turf better handle the summer heat. Our crew has worked hard over the last couple of months to complete critical spring maintenance practices as well as several small projects. A few examples include: establishing new sod on 17 Blue, 10 Gold, and the new event lawn; new landscaping and annual flower change out; aeration of greens; application of spring Grounds Crew aerating greens in Mid-March as a part of the spring maintenance on the Golf Courses. weed control and fertility; and much more. We are currently working to repair a large drain pipe that failed due to age on #1

Gold, planning for additional sod work in roughs, and re-working sand in the bunkers on both courses. I would like to close by thanking the membership and staff for an amazing welcome to the DAC family. I have spent the last several weeks studying Grounds Foreman, Martin Banuelos oversees the annual flower changeout in early April. the property and working to learn the ins and outs of our golf maintenance operations. I can assure you that more I learn – the more excited I am to be a part of DAC. We have a skilled and tenured team and an excellent foundation on which to continue improving the member experience at DAC. I am also excited to work with our Golf Course Architect, Chet Williams, to help update master plans for both courses. These plans will serve as a road map to ensure that our efforts to complete both short- and long-term improvements are successful. Thank you for supporting our golf maintenance operations and I look forward to meeting more of you on the course soon. Please do not hesitate to contact me with questions, comments, or concerns.

their doors to the first members. The grand opening gala was highlighted by a lavish dinner, music by the Dallas Orchestra, and a formal ball where the DAC members danced the night away in their new luxurious Club.

We wanted to take a moment to give everyone some background on our new Member-Guest, The “1919”. The inaugural event will take place May 12th to May 14th. The goal for this new event is to pay homage to the origins and the 100+ year history of the Dallas Athletic Club. In 1919 the Club was incorporated in Dallas, and in 1925 the downtown building opened

A Message from Natalia Prinz Our team is just wrapping up our first year together and we want to say huge thank you to each and every one of you for your tremendous support. Your participation in our tennis events, leagues, clinics, teams, and junior development program has been beyond our expectations. Lessons and group lessons have been in high demand and primetime court reservations have been fully booked. Our weeknights have more activity than ever before and the ball machine is being used more often than not. Our Tennis Shop has been thriving and it's all because of you! We are very excited about the upcoming Spring/Summer season. The WTA Member-Member, that happened on April 22nd, sold out in just a day! Our next big event is the Davis Cup on Saturday, June 25th.

The Tennis Staff would like to thank both the MTA and WTA for their constant support and efforts in providing fun, social events for our DAC members. If you would like to join either the MTA or the WTA, please email me at nprinz@ dacstaff.org and I will be happy to help get you signed up. Personally, I would like to thank our General Manager, Brent Burkhart, and the entire tennis committee for giving me this opportunity a year ago and trusting my vision for the DAC Tennis Program. We want to make sure we continue to exceed members' expectations at DAC Tennis, so if there is anything you may need, please let us know. See you on the courts,

Natalia Prinz Director of Tennis

SHAPE UP

THIS SUMMER Summer is just around the corner which means shorts, t-shirts and bathing suits. Here are some tips to help you shape up for the summer. 1. Incorporate more protein and less sugar in your diet. Lean meats and colorful veggies are a good place to start. 2. Drink a lot of water. Proper hydration gives us more energy, balances our system and quenches our thirst helping us avoid poor beverage choices. 3. Avoid excessive alcohol. Drinking too much at one time has the opposite effect of drinking water and that’s especially bad in the hot summer months. 4. Lift weights or use resistance training movements. Cardio is great, but resistance training boosts metabolism and builds lean muscle. 5. Stay active with walking, yard work or outdoor activities like biking or hiking. 6. Have an accountability partner. Someone reliable that you listen to. 7. Keep a log to monitor your weight, workouts and food. Make realistic goals for yourself based on your beginning numbers. 8. Have a positive mindset. Say I can instead of I can’t. 9. Be patient. Changes are not going to happen overnight. Consistency is the key. 10. Change it up from time to time. Our bodies adapt very easily. Throw your workout routine and diet a curve ball from time to time. This will help you stay focused. Try these tips and contact one of our DAC fitness professionals if you need assistance.
