ANNUAL MEETING
Wednesday, March 9 at 5:30 pm The Annual Meeting will be held on March 9, 2022 at 5:30 pm in the Royal Room. At this meeting, the Board of Directors will be presenting the annual report to the Membership and we will be announcing the results of the upcoming Board Election. Refreshments to follow the meeting.
A LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT WARREN SIBLEY This will serve as my last article as President of the Board of Directors. It has been a challenging, yet fulfilling, endeavor to serve the Club in this capacity over the last two years. I’ve had a number of members make comments such as, “I bet it’s been a thankless job”, or, “I don’t know why anyone would want to subject themselves to this….” It has not been “thankless”. I have far more positive interactions with members than one might think. My desire to get involved, run for the Board, and then run for President was born out of an experience I had with my son more than a decade ago. He was very young, and we had come to the Club to play a few holes and then watch the rest of a football game and eat a snack. It was then I realized the Club didn’t really have a place for us to enjoy a burger and a beer and watch the game. I felt the demographics of the Club would be changing such that we needed to address this sooner rather than later. I believe we are now a Club that meets the expectations of families at DAC. While I anticipated growth and change, I could never have imagined what occurred over the intervening years. While we all acknowledge the tremendous growth and unprecedented popularity of the Club, it is important we realize what it means for us now and moving forward. While we will undoubtedly encounter ebbs and flows of membership, a waitlist will be an ever-present reality, the cost of “doing business” will rise, and the expectations of members will increase commensurately. If you remember nothing else from all of these newsletter articles, or conversations you’ve had with me, please take these two truths to heart: 1) due to our popularity and our waitlist, moving from a recruitment model of club membership to a “gate-keeper” model will have far-reaching and long-lasting implications for how people join DAC; and 2) the population of Dallas is moving east, property values in our part of town will continue to rise and there are not a lot of places to build more country clubs. Our 400-acre Club will become an unmatched luxury inside the loop of Dallas.
come the expectations of a $50,000 (and growing) Club. Dues will continue to rise to meet the demands of our members and the operating costs associated with operating such a Club. While membership at DAC has always been a privilege, it can be difficult to appreciate that privilege when the barrier to entry (both in cost and no waitlist) was low. It is now quite difficult to attain membership. It requires a greater degree of both patience and financial resources. The privilege of membership now requires us to more actively acknowledge the responsibilities that accompany it. There is a greater degree of scrutiny placed on applicants; sponsors now have more accountability for the actions of those they sponsor; and our current members are asked to be even more aware of how their actions impact other members. As I conclude my last article, I believe it is important to highlight one change which proceeded my tenure. Moving from a Board-run model of club administration to a GM-run model, under the Board’s direction, has been instrumental in our success. The Board is responsible for the macro view. We decide the strategic goals and the GM is tasked with implementing said vision. The past two years have required a single-minded focus garnered from years of accumulated wisdom in managing in all sorts of new and challenging situations. We were well positioned because we had a well-qualified person tasked with making those real time decisions. Most members have no reason or cause to meet with the GM on a regular basis; so, Brent’s actions go largely unnoticed, underappreciated, or, occasionally, misjudged. My new appreciation for the role the GM serves and his ability to lead our Club has been an unexpected revelation over my two years. He has 1400 “bosses” (not counting spouses and children) and yet still manages to shepherd our growth and exceed expectations. Again, it has been a honor and a pleasure to serve you these last two years. I am excited to watch as our Club enjoys all its future success and continues to evolve into an even better Club.
Warren Sibley President
Our initiation fee will continue to rise with our demand. We will be to $50,000 very soon. Along with this will

From the Desk of Cari Wheatley The truest asset of Dallas Athletic Club is not amenities or property, it is the quality and relationships of the members at the Club. With an active membership waitlist in place, now is the time to start thinking about sponsoring your friends! The Membership Committee continues to evolve their due diligence in the vetting process. Once a candidate has completed their application, and a membership in their desired category is available, I will send their sponsoring members a questionnaire to complete on the candidate’s behalf. The information you provide as a sponsor will be held in the strictest confidence and will be seen only by the Membership Committee and the Board of Directors. We ask that you be candid in your answers. It is important that you provide complete and detailed information about the candidate. Failing to answer questions or provide sufficient information impedes the Committee’s efforts to learn about the prospective member and could cause the application to be considered incomplete or to be rejected. Sponsoring a candidate for membership involves responsibility and participation. You should only sponsor or serve as a reference for a candidate if you are well acquainted with the candidate and hold the candidate in high regard. The relationship between the sponsor and the candidate should be personal in nature and deep as opposed to a casual social or business acquaintance. Sponsors should know the character of the candidate and his or her spouse and children, and how they will interact with other

members and staff. In their discretion, the Membership Committee and Board of Directors may contact you to discuss your answers on this questionnaire and your views about the candidate. Once the Membership Committee approves a candidate for Board recommendation, the candidate will advance to the next step of the membership process. Candidates are posted for membership for five days via e-mail and on the bulletin board outside of the 19th Hole. If you have any questions, concerns or objections regarding these posted applicants, please contact myself or Brent Burkhart before the end of the posting period. The last step in the Membership Invitation process, is the consideration and approval by the Board of Directors at their monthly meeting. For your convenience, membership information is located on the private side of the website under the 'Club Information' tab. You may also contact me directly, and I would be delighted to invite your prospect for a tour and lunch at the Club! We look forward to all the new faces that will be joining the DAC Family! Cheers,
CariWheatley

Instruction Packages with Stuart Hendley Warmer weather and greener grass means it's time for the start of another busy golf season. Here is my new pricing for the 2022 golf season: 1. Individual lessons/fittings: $145 per hour 2. Three hour packages: $400 (approximately $135 per hour) 3. Five hour packages: $625 ($125 per hour) I will no longer be offering my large ten and twenty hour packages. I even had a few people that purchased forty and fifty hour packages. For those students that want these larger packages, that service will still be available for you. The only thing that will change is how you will pay for these larger packages. Instead of paying in one lump sum, you will pay every five hours of instruction

and will still receive a lower price per hour for those larger blocks of time with the exact same service. Those students that have continued to purchase multiple packages from me, will receive the lower price per hour on the five hour packages moving forward. We look forward to seeing everyone out at the golf course and helping you with your game or anything else you might need. Contact me or any of our other PGA professionals to book your lesson, lessons or fitting. See you at the course!

A Message from Natalia Prinz Spring tennis season has officially begun! We are looking forward to great competition and so many exciting events for adult players, juniors and future star kids. As our DAC Tennis Program grows, we would like to kindly remind our members to return demo rackets after play or a lesson so other fellow members are able to use them, too. Please do not take DAC rackets off of the property and always check them in and out at the shop desk. A lot of rackets look alike so if you tried something you really liked, please take a picture of it so we can make sure we help you with the right purchase.
grip size. Once you are ready to purchase your new racket, please come see Joe Sopko to discuss string tension, material and color.
All DAC tennis professionals are happy to help you find the best racket that fits your game style. Rackets vary in weight, head size, balance, length and of course
See you on the courts,
Lastly, please be sure to restring your current rackets prior to the busy season. Strings lose tension every time you play, and they eventually go dead. They may still look the same, especially in polyester string, but they will lose their performance characteristics. The best rule to go by for Club players is to restring your rackets as many times a year as you play a week. Example: if you play twice a week, twice a year. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.
