After 21 years, we’re saying farewell to Jesus Rocha, a valued server in the 19th Hole, as he retires at the end of April.
Jesus has been a familiar and friendly face to both members and coworkers throughout his time at DAC.
Reflecting on his time here, Jesus shared, “I’m grateful for everyone’s support over the years. It’s been a pleasure getting to know our members, and I’ll truly miss my co-workers.”
In retirement, he’s looking forward to traveling, starting with a trip to Mexico, spending more time with family, and finally getting to that “honey-do” list!
We thank Jesus for his years of service and wish him all the best in this next chapter.
It’s been an eventful spring at DAC! From celebrating our team at the Employee Appreciation Lunch to learning together at the Nutrition Class and enjoying the refreshed breakroom, here are a few snapshots from March and April.

THE SMITHBERKOWITZ
FAMILY
Since joining the Club in 2022, this family has quickly become a familiar and joyful presence at many of DAC’s most beloved traditions. What began with a few summer pool visits, highlighted by a memorable Fourth of July while awaiting the arrival of their first child has grown into something much more meaningful. Today, the Club serves as a backdrop for their family’s milestones, celebrations, and everyday moments, creating a place where lasting traditions are formed and memories are made together.
Your family is such a familiar face at Club events — what or who encouraged you to join DAC in 2022? Our friends invited us to join them at the pool a few times over the summer in 2021, including for the Fourth of July event, at which time we were expecting our first child, Ellie. After she was born, we knew that the Club would be a great place where we could spend quality time together and establish traditions for our family.
Do you have a favorite Club event that your family looks forward to every year? Fall Festival! We always go all out for Halloween and love that DAC does too!
From Family Nights to Fall Festival, what types of events do your kids get most excited about? Ellie (4) and Landon (2) love all of the big events like the Easter Egg Hunt and Pancakes with Santa, but they also get really excited about the smaller hands-on events like the Little Chefs cooking classes and gingerbread house decorating party.
What’s one favorite memory your family has made at a Club event? One of our favorite memories was when the kids dressed up as Target for a past Fall Festival and each won their age group in the costume contest, with the prize, of course, being Target gift cards.
How have Club events helped your family connect with other members and build friendships? The activities at Club events create such a fun atmosphere that it’s easy to strike up a conversation with someone new or talk with members who we may see from time to time but haven’t had the opportunity to really connect with yet. It’s also a great time for our kids to meet and play with other kids similar ages to them.
If you could describe a “perfect” Wednesday Family Night at the Club, what would the theme be and what activities would it include? Ellie and Landon were obsessed with Sonic night – but they’d go crazy for
a Disney night. Movies in the dining room or on the big screen on the lawn, Mickey Mouse, princess dresses, and Disney inspired treats!
What would you say to a new family who is thinking about attending their first Club event? Do it! Club events are such a fun way to make memories and enjoy time with your family, as well as meet other members.
Do your kids have a favorite activity, tradition, or treat they look forward to at events? They really look forward to weekly Family Night. We’ve been joining each Wednesday for almost two years, and still every week they are always so excited to play out on the lawn, make big ice cream sundaes, and give huge hugs to their favorite DAC team members. It’s definitely a weekly highlight for all of us.
What do you think makes the Club’s family events feel so special compared to other places? DAC is truly the most family friendly club we’ve ever experienced and the family events are a perfect example of that. They are well curated to provide activities for all members of the family no matter what age, and everyone at the Club goes out of their way to recognize us, but even more so, Ellie and Landon. We love that it’s a place where our kids are comfortable and able to have fun.
Outside of events, what are some of your family’s favorite ways to spend time together at the Club? We love celebrating holidays or other milestones at the Club. We’ve hosted Ellie’s annual “CoachEllie” birthday party here since her first birthday and everyone at DAC goes above and beyond to make sure it’s a success year after year. It’s been amazing to see the party evolve as she gets older and to watch her and Landon have an absolute blast with their friends somewhere that has become so special to us as a family.

PREPARING FOR PEAK SEASON AND CHAMPIONSHIP PLAY
Travis Moore Course Superintendent
As we enter May and June, our golf course maintenance operations will be in full swing as we transition into the heart of the growing season. Our busy golf calendar continues into May, highlighted by the 1919 Member-Guest and the opportunity to host U.S. Open Final Stage Qualifying across both courses.
In early May, we will complete aesthetic and functional improvements around the cart barn and adjacent cart path near #18 Gold. This project includes new drainage around the building and pathways, improved cart path routing, updated exterior metal with a rock façade, and new insulation. Collectively, these upgrades will significantly enhance both the appearance and functionality of the finishing hole, leaving golfers with a strong final impression of the course.
From an agronomic perspective, our primary focus will be delivering firm, fast putting conditions while ensuring the long-term health of the greens as we approach the summer heat. This includes continued light aeration, precise moisture management, and closely monitored cultural practices to maintain consistency and playability. By mid-May, tees, fairways, and roughs should be actively growing, allowing us to further refine overall conditions across the property.
One of our key initiatives this year—already underway—is a commitment to more frequent aeration and sand topdressing in high-traffic areas such as tees, approaches, and landing zones. These practices will continue throughout the season to improve turf density, relieve compaction, and enhance overall playability. We have also refined our daily bunker maintenance practices, including adjustments to raking methods, to promote firmer and more consistent playing conditions.
Thank you for your continued support of our golf course maintenance operations. We encourage you to visit our Agronomy Blog, launched earlier this year, for weekly updates on course conditions and ongoing projects.

A MESSAGE FROM DIRECTOR OF GOLF
MASTERS PAR 3, FOUR BALL
April was a fantastic month for us here at the Club. With golf season off and running, we had a full slate of events, and it was great to see so many of you out enjoying the course and taking part in this year’s offerings.
We had tremendous success with several of our premier events, including the Senior Club Championship and the Ladies President’s Cup, both of which showcased great competition and camaraderie among our membership. Additionally, our 2nd annual Masters Par 3 event “A Tradition Unlike Any Other” was a highlight of the month. It was incredible to see so many members fully embrace the theme and enjoy a fun, spirited day on the course.
We were also proud to serve as the host site for the Ladies Big 12 Championship from April 23–25. It’s an honor to welcome some of the top collegiate players in the country to our Club and showcase our course and hospitality on a big stage.
Looking ahead, we are excited to host the Final Stage of U.S. Open Qualifying on May 18th. This is a unique opportunity to witness some of the best players compete at the highest level, and we encourage all members to come out and
enjoy the action.
As we move into summer, we’re excited for the return of junior camp season beginning in June. Our junior programming continues to grow, and it was especially rewarding to wrap up our first-ever DAC PGA Jr. League season. Watching our Juniors compete in this was a lot of fun. Almost as much fun as watching how excited the parents got following along.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support and engagement. We look forward to a fantastic summer ahead and hope to see you at the Club often.
Be sure to tune into my weekly “Tee it Up” email for weekly highlights and updates.

A SIMPLE FIX FOR PULLED SHOTS
Stuart Hendley, PGA Head Golf Professional GOLF TIP
During round three of the Masters this year, Rory was missing a lot of irons shots left. He hit the range after play and worked on rotating through the ball.
If your body stalls or stops rotating after impact, many times it will result in a pulled shot.
When your body stops turning, it causes your arms to flip over, causing the ball to go left (for a right-handed golfer).
To make sure you continue rotating, you want to feel like your chest is staying wide and turning left through the ball.
If you are struggling with a pulled shot, come see one of our Golf Professionals for a tune-up!
GOLF RULE 7.4 MOVING THE BALL WHILE SEARCHING
Tim Brown, PGA Head Golf Professional
Rule 7.4 explains what happens when a ball is accidentally moved while searching for or trying to identify it. There is no penalty if a player, opponent, or anyone else searching for the ball causes it to move. However, if the player causes the ball to move before beginning to search for it, the player receives a one-stroke penalty under Rule 9.4b.

HYDRATE
Start the night before! Use electrolytes (Liquid IV, etc.) and drink throughout the day.
As temperatures rise, preparing your body becomes just as important as your game. Proper hydration, smart recovery, and adjusting your on-court habits can make the difference between powering through a match and wearing down in the heat. With a few simple strategies, you can stay cool, energized, and performing at your best all summer long.
DRESS SMART
Wear light colors, white keeps you 10–15° cooler. Don't forget your hat!
FUEL UP
Bananas, frozen grapes and other quick snacks keep your energy up in the heat.
ON COURT STRATEGY
Take more breaks in the shade. Use your full changeover time.
TIMING MATTERS
Avoid the peak sun (12–4 pm) when possible. Play before or after for a better experience.
COOL DOWN
Ice towels on your neck, hands & wrists cool you down fast.
STAY STRONG MENTALLY
Accept the heat, take it one point at a time, and stay patient.

STAY STRONG, PLAY MORE
How strength training helps prevent injuries during the summer
As the weather warms up and the days get longer, it naturally leads to more time on the course, more range sessions, and more overall activity. For many, this is the best time of year— but it also comes with a hidden challenge. As playing frequency increases, so does the physical demand placed on your body.
Without the right preparation, that added volume can lead to soreness, fatigue, and even injury. The good news is that a simple, consistent strength training routine can help you stay ahead of those issues—keeping you healthy, mobile, and playing your best all season long.
Why Injuries Tend to Show Up in the Summer
During the off-season or cooler months, activity levels are often lower or less consistent. When summer arrives, many golfers quickly ramp up—playing multiple rounds per week, spending more time practicing, and increasing overall movement without much buildup. This sudden jump can overload the body especially the lower back, hips, shoulders and elbows.
How Strength Training Protects Your Body
Strength training isn’t just about building muscle or lifting heavier weights—it’s about building a body that can handle repeated movement efficiently.
A well-structured program helps you:
• Strengthens and stabilizes your joints
• Improves control and coordination
• Increases tolerance to repetitive stress
• Reduces strain on vulnerable areas
The Key Areas Golfers Should Focus On
A strong, resilient body doesn’t require a complicated routine—but it should address the areas that matter most for both performance and injury prevention.
Core Stability
Protects your lower back and helps transfer energy efficiently.
Hip Strength and Mobility
Improves rotation and power while reducing stress on your spine.
Upper Back and Shoulder Strength
These areas help maintain posture, control the clubface, and support the shoulders through repeated swings.
Glute Strength
The glutes are a primary driver of power and stability. Strong glutes support better weight transfer and reduce strain on the
Consistency will always outperform intensity. Support your body, and it will support you back.
lower back.
Focusing on these areas just 2–3 times per week can significantly improve how your body feels and performs.
Performance Benefits You’ll Notice
One of the biggest advantages of strength training is that it not only helps prevent injuries—it also enhances performance.
With improved strength, stability, and mobility, many golfers notice:
• Increased clubhead speed and distance
• Better balance throughout the swing
• More consistent contact and ball striking
• Less fatigue during the back nine or late in the round
When your body feels strong and supported, your swing becomes easier to repeat. That consistency is what leads to better results on the course.
Keep It Simple and Stay Consistent
You don’t need long or complicated workouts to see meaningful results. In fact, shorter, focused sessions are often more effective and easier to stick with.
A simple approach might include:
• 2–3 strength training sessions per week (30–45 minutes)
• 10–15 minutes of mobility work on off days
• Quick dynamic warm-up before playing or practicing
The goal is to support your body—not exhaust it. Consistency will always outperform intensity when it comes to long-term progress.
About the Winery MAIL ROAD WINE DINNER
Tucked along a windswept stretch of California coastline, where rugged cliffs meet the Pacific and morning fog slowly gives way to sun, a remarkable story is unfolding—one that you’ll soon be able to taste firsthand.
MAIL ROAD is more than a winery; it’s a tribute to place, passion, and precision. Born from a commitment to crafting wines that are both powerful and graceful, each bottle tells the story of its origin with striking clarity. These are wines designed not just to be enjoyed, but remembered, wines that spark conversation, linger on the palate, and elevate every moment they accompany.
At the heart of this story is Mt. Carmel Vineyard, perched dramatically 800 to 1,000 feet above sea level in California’s celebrated Sta. Rita Hills. Just a few miles from the Pacific Ocean, this historic site—once home to cloistered Carmelite nuns and offers an extraordinary environment for growing Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The vines, many of them heritage clones planted on their own roots, thrive in a patchwork of limestone, clay, and ancient marine soils. Combined with coastal winds and a cool climate, these elements create wines of remarkable depth, vibrant acidity, and unmistakable character.
What does that mean for you? A wine experience that is anything but ordinary.
At our upcoming Wine Dinner, you’ll have the rare opportunity to explore these site-driven wines in a curated setting, thoughtfully paired with a menu designed to highlight their complexity and elegance. Expect bright, mineral-driven Chardonnays and beautifully structured Pinot Noirs that showcase both power and finesse. Each sip reveals a new layer of craftsmanship!
Whether you’re a seasoned wine enthusiast or simply someone who enjoys a great meal paired with something special in your glass, this evening promises discovery, connection, and a touch of coastal magic.
Seats are limited, and this is one experience you won’t want to miss!
Join us, along with Master Sommelier Anthony Anselmi at the Mail Road Wine Dinner on May 7th.
