JANUARY | FEBRUARY CLUB NEWS 2026
LETTER FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER Dear DAC Membership, It is such an honor to be writing my first newsletter as your new General Manager. It has been just shy of one month since my first day on campus and all I can say is, WOW! This facility, the membership, and DAC culture are clearly very special. I also want to give a heartfelt thank you to all of you who have shown me a very warm, Texas-sized welcome over the past several weeks. I have had the privilege of meeting well over one hundred fantastic members over the last month, and I look forward to shaking many more hands over the coming year. Recently, I gave a presentation to the Board of Directors with a few of my initial observations, and more importantly, a look into my operational plan for 2026. While I am certainly leaving room for additional initiatives and objectives as I continue to learn more about DAC, there are just a couple that I know are forthcoming that I would love to share with all of you. 1. Communication One of the cornerstones to my management style is to create an environment where the Club members feel included, informed, and engaged in all facets of the Club. As such, we will be focusing on creative marketing for events, regular design and/or construction updates as they occur, and an overall emphasis on keeping all of you informed about what is going on at your Club. 2. Data-driven Decision-making As all of you know, DAC is a big Club with lots of moving parts and a diverse membership with varying interests, but it’s also a $25M a year in revenue business. As such, I want to emphasize the importance of making data-driven decisions with everything from new menu items (more on that later) to more highcost decisions, such as long-term capital planning. So, what does that look like exactly? Well, our Club President, Whitney Ragsdale, already mentioned some of this in the last newsletter, but please see below for just a few initiatives. • • Daily dining surveys – These will give the F&B team realtime data regarding your overall dining satisfaction, menu selection, satisfaction with your service, and allow you to comment on anything you wish to communicate with the team. Additionally, if you have an experience that is not up to our standards, we will see it immediately, and it will trigger a follow-up call from one of our F&B team members to ensure we are always learning and improving. • • Capital/Facility & overall satisfaction surveys – we want to know what’s important to you when it comes to facility enhancements. Whether it’s a state-of-the-art golf performance center, enhanced aquatic facilities, pickleball courts, or a more modern (and covered) outdoor dining
facility, we want to know what really ‘moves the needle’ at DAC. Most importantly, we want to know your satisfaction levels with your overall experience at your Club. Conversely, we need to know where and how we can get better, and of course, with 1,400 memberships, part of getting better means collecting as much data as possible. • • Lastly, we are engaging with the industry’s numberone financial consulting firm in the Club industry, “Club Benchmarking” (please feel free to Google them). In short, Club Benchmarking will ensure we are looking 10 years ahead in terms of taking care of our existing assets and creating a long-term funding plan for any future capital improvements. Most importantly, partnering with Club Benchmarking will ensure DAC is prioritizing the longterm financial health of the Club. However, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that DAC is already in great financial health with strong cash flow. It’s clear that previous Club leaders have kept their collective eye on the ball when it comes to fiscal responsibility. There will be a lot going on at DAC, but rest assured, we will be keeping all of you informed as we continue to improve the Club throughout 2026 and beyond. 3. Operational Excellence Let’s face it, if we are not providing an exceptional member experience every time you join us on campus, we simply aren’t doing our job. That’s why I’m concluding this list with a message on improving the overall member experience. I’m not saying it isn’t already good; I am simply saying that every single year, our objective as a management team will be to get better. So, what does that mean exactly? I’m referring to enhancing and expanding member events, improving your experience in our dining outlets, paying closer attention to detail, and overall evaluating the level of service you receive across campus. It’s really about consistently and consciously avoiding complacency. It's going to be an incredibly exciting 2026, but in the meantime, I hope all of you have a very Happy Holidays! My goal is to get to know as many members as I can this year, and I much prefer to be out of the office as much as I can be. However, if you don’t see me out there, my door is always wide open to you, so please feel free to pop in anytime you want to chat. Happy Holidays,
Stephen Burkhart

IN
MEMORIAM
As we begin a new year at the Club, I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to all members who sponsored a candidate for membership in 2025. Your thoughtful recommendations and willingness to uphold our Club’s long-standing tradition of invitation-only membership play an essential role in shaping the community we all enjoy. Each sponsorship represents a vote of confidence in the individuals you put forward and in the future of our Club. Because every candidate requires two member sponsors, your participation ensures that we continue to welcome those who will contribute to our culture, camaraderie, and shared values for years to come. Thank you again for your continued support. If you want to sponsor a candidate in the coming year—or if you would like more information about the membership process—please feel free to contact me at cwheatley@dacstaff.org.

WHERE COMPETITION, COMMUNITY, AND FUN COME TOGETHER
MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: MEG & BRANDON MCCORMICK
Few couples embody the spirit of DAC golf quite like Meg and Brandon McCormick. Whether they’re stepping up to the tee in a spirited club tournament, cheering f riends on, or winding down in the 19th Hole, the McCormicks bring warmth, enthusiasm, and a healthy dose of competitive energy to the Club. Their appreciation for DAC, love for the game, and the f riendships they’ve built along the way make them a perfect pair to feature in this month’s Member Spotlight. You’ve both been part of some great tournaments. What makes DAC’s golf community so special compared to others you’ve played in? We joined DAC for golf and the history of the Club—the courses truly can’t be beat. Playing in the association events and club tournaments has been so much fun, not only f rom a competitive standpoint but also for the opportunity to meet other members. There’s a great balance of competitiveness and fun, and we’ve always felt welcomed by everyone we’ve played with. If you could name your “signature hole” at DAC, the one that seems to know your game best, which would it be and why? Meg: I would have to say #7 Blue. I’ve been playing for over 30 years, but I finally got my first hole-in-one there, so that one will always be special. Brandon: It’s hard to pick just one, though—I’ve been really happy with the recent renovations, and I also really like 17 Gold. It’s a short par-3 with a challenging green. What’s one piece of golf wisdom you’ve learned—either f rom a pro, a f riend, or a tough day on the course? Brandon: For me, it’s always been about looking forward. You can’t change the shot you already hit; just focus on figuring out how to play the next one. Why do you think it’s important for a new golf member to join the MGA or WGA? The associations are a great way to meet other members outside of your regular playing group. Plus, it’s a fun way to experience different formats in a competitive environment. How has participating in Club events or tournaments deepened your f riendships here? The Club events really bring out the competitor in each of us. Getting the chance to play against your f riends and fellow members for a trophy—or even a picture on the wall—adds an extra level of excitement and connection. Imagine the Club started a “McCormick Challenge”—it can be silly, super competitive, or anything in between! What would it involve? Honestly, that’s basically the couples' events... just kidding!
But if you really wanted to test the true strength of a marriage or even a f riendship, an 18-hole alternate-shot tournament would do it. After a great round (or a tough one!), what’s your go-to order at the 19th Hole? Brandon: For me, a f rozen margarita or a fully dressed Modelo always hits the spot after a hot summer round. And, of course, a f resh basket of popcorn. Meg: My go-to is a ranch water f rom John in the 19th. It hits the spot whether the round was great or not. When you’re not golfing, where can we most often find you around the Club? If we’re not golfing, we’re probably in the 19th hole. And if you ever see us over by the tennis courts, something is probably wrong. What annual event is always a “can’t-miss” for the McCormicks? For golf, we really enjoy the couples’ events; they’re always a fun time. The Fourth of July fireworks are a favorite every year, and the holiday party is always a can’t-miss as well. Honestly, we can’t say we’ve ever been to a bad Club event. The McCormicks embody so much of what makes DAC truly special: a deep respect for the game, genuine f riendships built through shared competition, and an enthusiasm that reminds us how lucky we are to belong to such a vibrant golf community.

TURF TALK
A NEW YEAR ON THE COURSE: WHAT'S AHEAD FOR 2026 As we look ahead to 2026, the Golf Course Maintenance Department is excited about the opportunities in front of us. With no major construction planned, our focus will be on improving day-to-day operations while continuing to enhance playing conditions and the overall presentation of the Club. Early in the year, we will be cleaning and reorganizing our maintenance facility, disposing of outdated equipment, and completing preventative maintenance on our equipment fleet to ensure we are ready for the spring golf season. We will also begin restructuring staff schedules and our organizational chart to modernize our staffing model while continuing to rely on the experience already within our team. As part of this effort, Assistant Superintendent Connor Hansen joined us in December 2025. Connor is a Texas A&M graduate with a Master’s degree in Agronomy and brings experience from Escondido Golf and Lake Club, Miramont Country Club, and Traditions Club— please welcome him (and feel free to send feedback his way). The “635 Project” and its impact on holes 4 and 5 on the Blue Course have progressed significantly over the last few months. We are working closely with golf course designer Chet Williams to implement short-term improvements while also planning for future work, which will take place during Phase II of the Blue Course Master Plan. Looking ahead to spring and summer, we plan to increase cultural practices such as topdressing and aeration in high-traffic areas—particularly approaches—to improve firmness and long-term turf health. Additional upcoming work includes perimeter fence and shrub replacements, aesthetic improvements near the cart barn and the 18th green on the Gold Course, and potential updates to the south driving range tees. We appreciate the continued support of our membership and look forward to a productive year ahead at Dallas Athletic Club.
Travis Moore
Course Superintendent

GOLF RULE 9.3:
BALL MOVED BY NATURAL FORCES
Tim Brown HEAD GOLF PROFESSIONAL With the greens getting faster, let’s all make sure we know the correct ruling if the ball moves on the putting green after having already been lifted and replaced. Rule 9.3 tells us that if natural forces (such as wind or water) cause a player’s ball at rest to move: • •
There is no penalty. The ball must be replaced to spot from which it moved.

A MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR OF GOLF
As we head into a new year, I’ve been thinking back on what an incredible nine months it has been since joining the DAC family. When Kelsey and I moved to Texas, we hoped to find a community we could truly feel a part of, and you all have exceeded every expectation. I’m genuinely grateful for the way you’ve welcomed us, supported me, and made this place feel like home. This holiday season has been a lot of fun so far. We are especially proud of the success and feedback that surrounded
our first Holiday Market here at the Club. Our DAC Shop Holiday Sale brought that same excitement, and it’s been fun seeing the clubhouse come alive with the holiday festivities. More than the events, what I’ve enjoyed most are the conversations in the shop, the laughs on the tee, and the small moments that remind me why DAC is such a special Club. I am thankful every day that I get to lead a golf operation surrounded by members and staff who are so passionate about this place. As we look ahead to 2026, I’m excited for what’s to come. We look forward to kick-
ing off the new year and new golf season with some fresh energy and a few new touches on some great events. Please be on the lookout for the Golf Tournament Schedule, which will be live in early January, so we can all plan for another great year. Thank you again for making my first year here unforgettable. Good Golfing,
Renaldo Chiang Director of Golf
GOLF FITNESS
A CUSTOMIZED PATH TO BETTER PERFORMANCE Stuart Hendley, PGA DIRECTOR OF INSTRUCTION We should all try to have some type of golf fitness routine to increase our chances of playing our best golf and having the most fun while playing the game. This fitness routine should be specifically tailored for each person and not just a cookie-cutter plan. Just like golf instruction and club fitting, fitness routines can be customized these days. A 25-year-old tour player will likely have a different routine than a 75-year-old weekend warrior who plays three or four times a month. These routines can include lifting weights, cardio, stretching, and more. I strongly suggest that everyone spend a little time with our fitness expert, Bernie Garces (Director of Fitness). Bernie can assess your needs and develop a fitness routine customized just for you. TPI (Titleist Performance Institute) is likely one place he might start. TPI studies the connection between the human body and the golf swing. A TPI assessment involves a physical screening to identify limitations in a golfer’s body that could affect their swing, with the goal of improving performance and preventing injury. After completing the screening, Bernie will develop a routine specifically tailored to your particular needs. This could involve weights, stretch bands, medicine balls, cardio, and more. This is a great time to get your year of golf off to a strong start by making sure your body is cooperating and allowing you to do what you are trying to do with your golf swing. Let’s all get our bodies to cooperate so we can enjoy the great game of golf! DALLAS ATHLETIC CLUB | 9

FITNESS TIP
START THE NEW YEAR STRONG REALISTIC GOALS FOR HEALTH, FITNESS, AND PERFORMANCE The start of a new year feels a lot like standing on the first tee of a fresh round: a clean slate, plenty of opportunity, and a chance to set the tone for what’s ahead. It’s an ideal time to reset habits, build momentum, and focus on feeling stronger, moving better, and having more energy in everyday life. The best part? You don’t need to overhaul everything overnight to make meaningful progress. Lasting change happens when small, repeatable habits start stacking up. Think less “perfect plan” and more “better choices, more often.” That’s where real results live.
Set Goals That Energize You (Not Exhaust You)
Simple Nutrition Tweaks that Feel Doable
Instead of focusing on what you have to fix, start with what you want more of: more energy, more confidence, more flexibility, more power, or simply fewer aches and pains. When your goals are tied to how you want to feel, they become a lot more motivating.
When it comes to nutrition, the goal isn’t to follow complicated rules. It’s to make small upgrades that are easy to repeat.
A great strategy is to focus on direction, not perfection. If moving more is your goal, that might look like a few structured workouts per week, a daily walk, or a five-minute stretch break between meetings. Small actions done consistently create powerful momentum — and they fit into real, busy schedules. The goal isn’t to do everything. It’s to do something regularly, and build from there.
Build a Routine That Supports Your Life and Your Game Whether you’re here to stay active, build strength, or lower your golf scores, the foundation is the same: move well, move often, and move with intention. A smart weekly routine includes: • • Mobility work to keep hips, shoulders, and the mid-back moving freely • • Strength training to protect joints, improve posture, and maintain muscle mass • • Core training to support balance and efficient movement • • Cardiovascular work like walking, cycling, or swimming to build endurance For golfers, this type of training translates to smoother, more powerful swings, improved balance through the shot, and more stamina late in the round. For non-golfers, it means stairs feel easier, energy lasts longer through the day, and daily tasks feel less taxing. And yes — this kind of training can be both effective and enjoyable. Workouts should leave you feeling accomplished, not punished.
Start with these simple habits: • • Add protein to every meal (eggs, yogurt, fish, chicken, lean beef, beans, or tofu) • • Build colorful plates by adding more vegetables and fruits • • Drink water consistently throughout the day • • Balance carbs, fats, and protein instead of cutting entire food groups One of the easiest wins? Preparation. Having high-protein foods ready in the fridge, pre-cut produce available, or healthy snacks tucked in your golf bag, desk, or car can make good decisions much easier when life gets busy. Think upgrades, not overhauls.
Make This the Year of Consistency Real transformation doesn’t come from a burst of motivation — it comes from steady, repeatable effort. Progress often shows up as better sleep, more energy, improved mood, and growing confidence long before it shows up in the mirror or on the scorecard. The new year isn’t about becoming a completely different person. It’s about becoming a stronger version of who you already are. Start where you are. Build habits that feel realistic. Enjoy the process. With time, consistency, and a little patience, this can be the year you feel your best, move your best, and perform your best. And remember — every great round, routine, and result starts with a single, confident first step.
Final Thought Whether you want to be healthier or want to swing harder, it's about consistency. As long as you show up and put in the work, the results will come with time. Be patient and learn to enjoy your fitness journey! Rome wasn’t built in a day!
