DAC Aerial View 1993 Happy New Year! This year is so very special to all of us because we are embarking on our Centennial Year and we can promise you it’s going to be a memorable celebration-a century in the making! We’ve been preparing to celebrate our century-long history for months and the 100-year celebration is almost here, so we invite you to help us capture this historic moment all year long. We’re going to kick off the year with a Centennial Flag Raising Ceremony on New Year’s Eve followed by our wonderful celebration New Year’s Eve dinner in the Dining Room. Make your reservations now to enjoy that fabulous meal by our Chef and his team and celebrate the Centennial New Year. With uncertain winter in Texas these days, the flag raising ceremony will be held on the back lawn. Everyone can watch comfortably in the Clubhouse and the event will be capped by fireworks. In February, the DAC 100-Year Anniversary hardcover history book will be published. Many of you have contributed to this fascinating photo and word journey from times past, to the present; creating many memorable moments of club history. Among the most exciting events of this year will be a visit from double course designer Jack Nicklaus. He will be here on Sunday, May 5, so please mark your calendars and stay tuned for more details. This will be an all-day event featuring a golf course tour
From Douglas Day, President with Jack and culminating in a very limited and intimate gathering with golf’s greatest champion, Jack, and his wife Barbara in the evening. On September 14, 2019, we will host our Centennial Gala. We will close the Club around 2:00 p.m. and reopen several hours later to a place that won’t be recognizable. We’ll take you through the decades with surprises in virtually every room in the Clubhouse. Feel free to take the freedom to dress with the decades for the event. There will be dancing and dining for the party of the century. We’re bringing back the Red River Classic Tournament, plus our Nicklaus Cup will be bigger and better. We’re looking forward to the Texas State Amateur, in June, the oldest amateur tournament in the state of Texas which brings the very best players to compete. Of course, our Tradition MemberGuest will be the annual golf highlight of our year. Tennis will feature a Centennial Kick-Off Martini Mixer, January 25 for the members of the WTA and MTA. We’ll have the annual Frying Pan Mixer, and the Pro-Am in September. To honor this historic year, we have commissioned a Centennial course painting by world famous artist, Graeme Baxter. The
Honorable Mr. Baxter has painted only the most prestigious courses in the world and is the official painter for the Ryder Cup, the Open Championship and the President’s Cup to name a few. The painting will be unveiled on May 5 and the Giclee’s will be signed by Jack Nicklaus with only a limited number available. During the year, we will be asking our members to bring memorabilia to add to our time capsule which will be buried in the island where our Centennial Clock stands. That ceremony will take place on New Year’s Eve, 2019 to cap our magical year. Many of the highlights of the year are included our January/February newsletter. We look forward to seeing all of you participate and relish in our 100-year anniversary and history all year long. What a party! See you at the Club, Douglas Day
HAPPY CENTENNIAL NEW YEAR

It has been a very wet winter thus far, which is good for our newly sodded areas around the courses. The contractor has finished all of the projects scheduled for this year and will return in March to complete a few things on the Gold Course which include removal of Bunker lip liners, removal of Bermuda grass encroachment in Greens, and Fairway leveling. The Greens on the new short game practice area are growing in very well and the area is scheduled to open in January.
We are excited about our landscape around the Clubhouse as we go forward. We have planted several hundred bulbs KEVIN NETTLES, SUPERINTENDENT that will make a show in late February. In addition to the bulbs, we are having our spring annuals custom grown so we will get the best quality possible. courses in 2018 and we look forward to the We have received numerous positive additional improvements coming in 2019. comments on the improvements made to the

Keep Those Resolutions for 2019 by by Jeff Jeff Hoke, Hoke, Fitness Fitness Director Director Here we are again! That time of year when we set new fitness goals. Unfortunately, most often our goals aren’t met and eventually we forget about them. Typically, one of two things happen. First, our busy lifestyles take over, we don’t have time for a workout, so it disappears from our routine. Second, we don’t get the desired results we want. It begs the question, how do we overcome the obstacles presented in those two scenarios. In my experience, the number one reason for not having time or getting results is the same. We don’t have a plan. So…. what is a good plan? Here are a few examples:
1. Have scheduled workout days/times and stick to it! If you have to miss a workout, it’s OK. Don’t worry about making it up. Just make sure you get to your next workout. 2. Regardless of what your goals are you must have a plan. It could be a cardio routine, weight training, yoga, spin, etc. Regardless of the type of exercise you prefer, have a plan. 3. Meet with a professional. Schedule a couple of sessions with a trainer, so they can help you establish realistic goals and develop a plan. If you need advice and help developing your plan, please contact one of our DAC Fitness Professionals. Also, check our new 2019 Fitness Class Schedule. Have a Fit Day!
