Hilary Sample is Co-Founder of the New York-based architecture and design studio MOS. She also is the IDC Foundation Professor of Housing Design at Columbia University’s GSAPP. Since its establishment in 2003, MOS has won major national and international awards and been recognized in significant publications. Monographs about the studio include El Croquis and Maintenance Architecture. MOS undertakes projects diverse in scale and type, across North America, Europe, and Asia. Recent projects include the Petite École in France, Laboratorio de Vivienda in Mexico, Krabbesholm School in Denmark, and a collective affordable housing residence in Washington, D.C. The work of MOS is held in the permanent collections of the MOMA, the Art Institute of Chicago, Harvard, and Columbia. Sample, along with Michael Meredith, is a recipient of Cooper Hewitt National Design Award, the United States Artists Award, and the Rome Prize. She spoke for the Forum February 19, 2026.
