We also organized Panel Discussions on important issues directly impacting North Texas as well as spotlighting local design talent. We invite you to watch these great Lectures and Panels, as well as over one hundred past Forum programs, on our YouTube channel. The Forum also collaborated with other leading non-profits to educate Dallas about the importance of a restored I. M. Pei designed City Hall and plaza continuing to be the civic soul of our city. Your valued participation and support of the Forum is greatly appreciated! This season, The Forum and the Dallas design community suffered the passing of two Forum pillars: Our first Executive Director, Karen Buchanan; and Thomas Taylor, PE, a gifted structural engineer and Forum leader who helped transform the physical character of Dallas. Sincere thanks to all of you who have donated to their respective memorial funds so The Forum may continue to honor their legacies through special programming. We look forward to our 2026-2027 Season of Lectures, Panels and Special Events as together we continue to advance The Forum’s mission, strengthen our community, and experience inspired design! Karen BUCHANAN
The Forum’s First Executive Director Karen Ann Buchanan, the first Executive Director of The Dallas Architecture Forum, left us in February 2026. Karen was an avid reader, a fabulous cook, and the smartest person in the room. She never met a stranger and always made room for everyone at the table. After a successful career in business, Karen joined The Dallas Architecture Forum in November 2001. Karen brought her organizational skills and singular focus and determination to The Forum. She greatly expanded the beneficial impact of Board members’ creative capital into systematic plans that expanded the impact of The Forum. During Buchanan’s tenure as Executive Director, many of the most renowned architects in practice spoke for The Forum. Karen also supported her husband Russell in beginning The Forum’s Panel Discussion Series, where topics of regional and national importance are discussed by local subject matter experts in lively conversation with each other and program attendees. In March 2005 Karen passed the baton to current Forum Executive Director Nate Eudaly so that she could manage and continue to grow Russell’s studio on a full-time basis. In her last years, Karen enjoyed a slightly slower pace of life while continuing to make family, friends, and new arrivals to Dallas, including Dallas Morning News architecture critic Mark Lamster and family, welcome in her home. In deep appreciation of Karen, and in recognition of the lasting positive impact she and Russell achieved by establishing the Panel Discussion Series, The Dallas Architecture Forum has created an annual Panel named “The Karen Buchanan Memorial Panel” in her honor. Karen will be missed greatly, but her legacy will live on and continue to positively impact The Forum and the Dallas design community.
Tribute to Thomas TAYLOR The Dallas Architecture Forum mourns the passing of Thomas Taylor, PE, one of the most admired Texas-based structural engineers in practice over the last six decades. With the possible exception of architect George Dahl, no figure has had a greater impact on the physical character of Dallas. Taylor was responsible for some 50 buildings in downtown alone. His contributions were essential to projects including the Dallas Museum of Art, the Federal Reserve Bank, the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, the Nasher Sculpture Center, the Perot Museum and Thanks-Giving Square. “Concrete soars under his guidance, steel floats effortlessly and he combines craft with purpose,” the architect Ron Stelmarski said of Taylor at a 2024 Dallas Architecture Forum event celebrating Taylor’s career. Ted Flato of Lake Flato shared, “Tom was such a delight to work with and a wonderful friend. He always elevated our game.” Leading architect Steven Holl’s tribute states “Thomas understood architectural intention and knew how to translate it into structure. His contributions to the Stretto House and the Chapel of St. Ignatius were integral to the architecture.” Thomas Taylor also gave years of leadership and support to The Dallas Architecture Forum, serving on both its Board and then its Advisory Board until his death. The Forum’s program from April 2024 featuring Thomas discussing some of his most complex projects may be viewed HERE. The Forum celebrates Thomas’ remarkable career, and we appreciate your support of the memorial fund his family has established at the Forum to continue his legacy through our programming. The Forum extends our deepest sympathy to Dane and the entire Taylor family.

Neri&Hu Design and Research Office Lecture in Memory of Ron Wommack
Lyndon Neri, Hon. FAIA, and Rossana Hu are Founding Partners of Neri&Hu Design and Research Office. They utilize an interdisciplinary design approach that enriches contemporary life while showing respect for China’s cultural heritage. Alongside their design practice, Lyndon and Rossana have been deeply committed to architectural education and have lectured across the globe in various universities and professional forums. Rossana is the Chair of the Department of Architecture at Penn, and Lyndon is a visiting Professor at Princeton’s School of Architecture. They co-authored Persistence of Vision: Shanghai Architects in Dialogue and have published two monographs, Neri&Hu Design and Research Office and Thresholds: Space, Time and Practice. Neri&Hu Design and Research Office is an international design studio based in Shanghai. The practice’s burgeoning global portfolio includes commissions ranging from master planning and architecture to interior design, installation, furniture, product, branding, and graphic works. Currently working on projects in many countries, Neri&Hu is composed of multi-cultural staff who speak over thirty different languages. The diversity of the team reinforces a core vision for the practice: to respond to a global worldview, incorporating overlapping design disciplines for a new paradigm in architecture. Their designs have been recognized by a number of prestigious international awards spanning the fields of interior, product, and graphic design; as well as architecture. These accolades include American Academy of Arts and Letters Award in Architecture; Architizer A+ Awards Best Adaptive Reuse and Renovation Firm; Architizer A+ Awards Firm of the Year; Dezeen Awards Architecture Studio of the Year; ELLE Decor International Design Awards Designers of the Year; Wallpaper* Design Awards Designers of the Year; Interior Design Hall of Fame Induction and Architectural Record Design Vanguard. Neri&Hu
Ron WOMMACK, FAIA established his firm, Ron Wommack Architect, in 1990. Prior to establishing his own firm, Ron had worked for two of the Southwest’s most recognized and design-oriented firms, The Oglesby Group and Frank Welch Associates. Projects of Ron Wommack Architect have ranged from the refurbishing of older housing units into viable urban dwellings, the development of new denser housing typologies, and singlefamily residences to corporate office facilities and public / community projects. For this body of work, the firm has received more than twelve American Institute of Architects (AIA) component design awards since 1994 including six Texas Society of Architects and AIA/Dallas Honor Awards. The firm also received D-Magazine Home of the Year awards, and awards from Preservation Dallas. Ron was deeply involved in the architecture community, serving as an adjunct professor at the University of Texas at Arlington and as a visiting studio critic at Texas Tech University. He was the past president of the Dallas Architecture Forum and was elected to the College of Fellows of the AIA in 2004, with his firm being honored as the 2006 AIA Dallas Firm of the Year. He served in leadership positions for multiple AIA Dallas committees, including chairing the Design Awards Committee and Small Firms Roundtable Network, and was the 2024 chair of the Fellows Network. Ron received a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Texas Tech University in 1976. He served as an adjunct professor at the University of Texas at Arlington and as a visiting studio critic at Texas Tech University. Ron was also the past President of the Board of The Dallas Architecture Forum.

Ten Eyck Landscape Architects
Since she founded Ten Eyck Landscape Architects (TELA) nearly thirty years ago, Christine Ten Eyck has been dedicated to the creation of ecologically restorative outdoor spaces that foster community healing. Rooted in Austin with origins in Phoenix, the studio takes a regional approach to landscapes of the American southwest, leading conversations around pressing ecological issues through people and place-based design. Working closely with architects, engineers, ecologists, and clients, TELA draws from extensive experience and intimate environmental knowledge to transform overlooked and ordinary outdoor spaces into authentic, vibrant landscapes that stimulate the senses and unify communities. The studio prioritizes native plant species, water harvesting technologies, and durable materials, artfully expressed through form, color, and texture. The studio’s approach evaluates landscape through a holistic lens, creating environments that are historically and ecologically sensitive while fostering a resilient and accessible future for all who inhabit them. Grounded in a deep understanding of geography, TELA believes landscape architecture must develop community-shaping solutions on vital issues including water as both an essential resource and a powerful force - one that has shaped their ethos from the very beginning. TELA values accessibility, inclusivity, environmental stewardship, and fun. With a focus on underrepresented geographies and overlooked communities, Ten Eyck has seen how sustained, place-based investment can yield broad and lasting impact. Its award-winning projects include those for the Phoenix Art Museum, San Antonio Childrens’ Hospital, South Congress Hotel, UT El Paso Transformation, San Antonio Botanical Gardens, and in Dallas, Parkland Hospital and the recently completed Harwood Park. NADAAA
For his “contributions to architecture as an art,” Nader Tehrani is the recipient of The American Academy of Arts and Letters’ Arnold W. Brunner Memorial Prize, the highest form of recognition of artistic merit in the United States. With nineteen Progressive Architecture Awards, he is also an elected member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the National Academy of Design, and recipient of the Design Visionary Award from the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum. Tehrani is the Founding Principal of NADAAA, an interdisciplinary practice with works in infrastructure, urbanism, architecture, and installations. The former Head of the Department of Architecture at MIT, Tehrani was also Dean of The Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture of The Cooper Union. His work is featured in the permanent collections of the CCA and the Nasher Sculpture Center, and NADAAA has been widely exhibited at MOMA, LA MOCA and the Venice Biennale. NADAAA is an architecture and urban design firm led by principal designer Nader Tehrani. Based in Boston, NADAAA has evolved over three decades as a multi-disciplinary practice dedicated to bridging design disciplines; from landscape to urbanism, architecture to interiors, and industrial design to furniture. With an eye towards integrated thinking, the studio enters the discourse on technology, aesthetics, and building protocols as part of a holistic process. Rather than focusing on typology, NADAAA’s portfolio is built on process, with examples of institutional, academic, housing, commercial, retail, and civic projects. Design excellence is core to the firm’s pursuits, which also has earned four American Architecture Awards, four Chicago Athenaeum Awards, and an AIA Cote Top Ten Award. NADAAA consistently places among the top design firms in Architect Magazine’s annual ranking of US design firms and has been selected as top firm three years in a row. NADAAA
LECTURE / Aisha BALLESTEROS, Benedikt FAHLBUSCH & Javier SÁNCHEZ JSa Architecture
JSa, an architecture studio founded in 1996 by Javier Sánchez, Hon. FAIA, utilizes “urban acupuncture” to produce comprehensive architectural interventions that contribute to the reconversion, rehabilitation and restoration of the urban fabric. Javier Sánchez and his partners Aisha Ballesteros and Benedikt Fahlbusch lead a team of over fifty architects, designers, urbanists and engineers in both Mexico City and a secondary studio in Lima, Peru. The studio approaches design as a multifaceted process immersed in research, urbanism, and architectural design that addresses social, urban and environmental challenges. The studio gained early international recognition through a series of influential projects in the Roma and Condesa neighborhoods, catalyzing the renewal of those central areas in Mexico City. Over the past three decades, JSa’s practice has evolved organically into a broader scope, encompassing: the recovery of heritage and promotion of culture; the development and integration of sustainable solutions; and the design of multidisciplinary communities and workspaces. The studio’s diverse portfolio of over 180 built projects in Mexico, South America and Europe includes noteworthy residential developments like Pedre and the Juan de la Barrera Complex, Juan Soriano Contemporary Art Museum, internationally renowned restaurants Pujol and Ticuí, the Mexican Center for Philanthropy, Rain Harvest Home; and the resorts Naya and Volga Hotel. JSa has been recognized with more than 130 national and international awards, including the Golden Lion of the Venice Architecture Biennale, the Gold Medal of the National Biennial of Mexican Architecture, and a Housing Award by the AIA. Their work has been published in Domus, The New York Times, Architectural Review, Dwell, Wallpaper*, Architect, Summa+, Elle Décor, and Arquitectura Viva. JSa Architecture
LECTURE / Hilary SAMPLE
MOS
Hilary Sample is Co-Founder of the New York-based architecture and design studio MOS. She also is the IDC Foundation Professor of Housing Design and coordinator of the Core III Studio at Columbia University’s GSAPP. Since its establishment in 2003, MOS has won major national and international awards and been recognized in significant publications. Monographs about the studio include an issue of El Croquis and Maintenance Architecture. Sample has taught at Columbia GSAPP, Harvard GSD, Yale School of Architecture, and the University of Toronto. She has held the John G. Williams Teaching Chair at the University of Arkansas and the Reyner Banham Chair at the State University of Buffalo. MOS undertakes projects diverse in scale and type, spanning throughout North America, Europe, and Asia. Recent projects include the Petite École in France, a public pavilion for teaching design to children; Laboratorio de Vivienda in Mexico, a housing-focused education center; Krabbesholm School in Denmark, a complex of four art studios; and a photographer’s studio, along with a collective affordable housing residence in Washington, D.C. The work of MOS is held in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Art Institute of Chicago, Harvard University’s Frances Loeb Library, and Columbia University’s Butler Library. Sample, along with Michael Meredith, is a recipient of the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Museum’s National Design Award in Architecture, the United States Artists Award, and the Rome Prize. MOS

The Bob James Memorial Lecture
Joshua Ramus, FAIA, NOMA, is the founding principal of REX, an internationally acclaimed architecture and design firm. Joshua’s work challenges and advances building paradigms, producing inventive designs that offer new and inspiring aesthetic experiences. Recent work includes the Perelman Performing Arts Center in New York, The Lindemann Performing Arts Center at Brown, and 2050 M Street in Washington, D. C. Joshua’s current projects include a pair of mixed-use skyscrapers in Perth, two residential towers as part of the redevelopment of the iconic Domino Sugar Factory site, two hybrid retail and cultural hubs for Kia Motors in Korea, an office tower in Brisbane, and the Necklace Residence on Long Island. Seminal projects include the AT&T PAC Wyly Theatre in Dallas, the Vakko Fashion & Media Headquarters in Istanbul, and the Seattle Central Library; while he was a founding partner of OMA New York (rebranded as REX in 2006). Among his many honors are two AIA National Honor Awards, a U.S. Institute for Theatre Technology National Honor Award, Time magazine’s Building of the Year, IDA Building of the Year, an Urban Habitat Award of Excellence, three Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize awards, Architectural Digest’s AD100; and numerous state AIA, ArchDaily, Architect/Progressive Architecture, Architect’s Newspaper, Architectural Review, Architizer, and Wallpaper* design awards. Fast Company named REX one of the World’s 10 Most Innovative Companies in Architecture three times. He has also been credited as one of the 5 Greatest Architects Under 50 by HuffPost and one of the World’s Most Influential Young Architects by Wallpaper*. Joshua is the first American recipient of the Marcus Prize and was honored as one of Engineering News-Record’s Top 25 Newsmakers. Ramus is a Visiting Critic at the Harvard GSD and has been a Visiting Professor at Yale and Rice. He holds an MA from Harvard, where he earned the inaugural Araldo Cossutta Fellowship, and a BA in Philosophy, magna cum laude, from Yale. REX

The Rose Family Lecture
Deborah Berke, FAIA, LEED AP, is an architect, educator, and the founder of New York-based architecture firm TenBerke. Among the firm’s most significant works are the Residential Colleges at Princeton University, the Cummins Indy Distribution Headquarters, the Rockefeller Arts Center at SUNY Fredonia, the Yale School of Art in New Haven, Connecticut, and the 21c Museum Hotels across the South and Midwest. In 2017, TenBerke was honored with a National Design Award from the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum. Deborah is the J. M. Hoppin Professor of Architecture and the Edward P. Bass Dean of the Yale School of Architecture, the first woman to hold the position. She has been a Professor at Yale since 1987. Berke is the recipient of the 2025 AIA Gold Medal, the Institute’s highest honor recognizing individuals whose work has had a lasting influence on the theory and practice of architecture. She was also the recipient of the 2022 AIA/ ACSA Topaz Medallion, the highest honor for architectural education. In 2012, she was the inaugural designate of the Berkeley-Rupp Architecture Professorship and Prize at the University of California at Berkeley. Deborah spoke for The Forum a decade ago and also was a juror for The Forum’s Twenty-Fifth Anniversary Design Recognition. TenBerke Architects

The Frank Welch Memorial Lecture
The founder of Olson Kundig, Jim Olson, FAIA explores the interplay of nature, architecture and art. His illustrious career is marked by significant projects throughout the western United States and around the world, as well as worldwide publication and speaking engagements, and exhibitions of his designs. Under his leadership, Olson Kundig has become a multi-disciplinary practice, globally renowned for its design and craft. Inspired by the relationship between light and space, Jim has designed residential projects around the globe, often for art collectors. He creates homes that offer intimate settings for living with art and nature, characterized by a keen sensitivity to proportion and scale. Olson’s work has been widely published in The New York Times, AD, Architectural Record, Art + Auction, Dwell, Monocle, Interior Design, and the Wall Street Journal. Jim’s projects have received numerous national and international awards, including citations from the American Institute of Architects, the Chicago Athenaeum, and the American Association of Museums. He has received honors including the AIA Seattle Medal of Honor, Interior Design magazine’s Hall of Fame, and an American tastemaker designation by Wallpaper* magazine. The Forum presents an award-winning Lecture Series that brings outstanding architects,interior designers, landscape architects and urban planners from around the world, as well as Symposia, Receptions at architecturally significant residences, and Panel Discussions on issues impacting North Texas.
