Since the first spinning reels it was common sense that the body is made up of two parts: The body and thebody lid. With its introduction 2016 the Monocoque body design simply crushed this long-standing paradigm. At the Monocoque design, the body serves as a stiff and distortion-proof frame, which is handy and compact at the same time. Thus the body lid has no longer to be secured with a screw and the resulting free space can be used for a larger driving wheel. By this design, the body can house a driving wheel, which diameter is about 85% of the body surface. To put it simple: This design allows the use of larger and thus stronger driving wheels at the same body size.
Zaion TECHNOLOGY
Zaion and DS5 are incredibly strong carbon based composite materials developed by DAIWA TECHNOLOGY. Carbon composite will make the reels lighter and tougher than ordinary materials. And as they are not metal, they never corrode, even in salt water use. Light, tough and highly durable - the perfect materials for long lasting reels.
Zaion

Zaion is an excellent material developed by DAIWA to build reel bodies and rotors. The big advantage of this material is its lightness and solidity - you will feel this. Zaion is a kind of „High Density“ carbon strain material, which is made for highest performance and to resist maximum impact. Due to Zaion, it is possible to construct a lightweight body that durably supports the gearing. The strength of Zaion corresponds to Magnesium and is 20% stronger than Nylon/ ABS material, usually used for reel bodies. Zaion is about 50% lighter than Aluminium.
Zaion V
With the Zaion V material, the Japanese DAIWA engineers succeeded in developing a combination of materials, which can be used more conveniently in processing and producing reels compared to the previously existing Zaion material. Thus it also can be used in more economic reel series. Due to the high amount of carbon fiber and a new composite material the new Zaion V is significantly lighter and more distortion proof than common DS5 material.
STIFFNESS COMPARISON
To prevent the penetration of water, dust particles or salt crystals between rotor and body as far as possible, we have developed a nearly frictionless barrier based on magnetic oil, which hardly can be overcome by neither water nor smallest particles. The result is a silky-smooth running. In most cases, salt crystals and other solid particles are in charge for unpleasant winding noises as well as the loss of smooth running. Of course also „accidents“ can lead to a similar result. Despite these special cases, the cases with unpleasant winding noises are significantly decreased at reels with MagSealed, as depicted in the right figure. The smoother a line roller turns, the less friction emerges between line and roller. If delicate salt or dirt particles penetrate the line roller, it is continuously dragged and the friction is considerably increased. The magnetic MagSealed oil forms a barrier, which prevents the intrusion of water and therefore also of salt and dirt particles into the line roller almost entirely, which could affect the free rotation.
Our DAIWA technology further on changes the fishing tackle market. Our engineers succeeded in further devolving the MagSealed invention to a new level. First we sealed the axis to the greatest possible extent, then the line roller and now the ball bearing! MagSealed is a latest chapter in the history of the fishing reel. Thanks to our targeted research and development, we succeeded in integrating MagSealed into a ball bearing. For a long lifespan and a silky-smooth running over a long period. A revolution!
SV BOOST
The SV BOOST drag concept optimizes the casting distances while reducing the threat of backlashes at the same time. The reel setting is pre-configured which eliminates the need to adjust the mechanic drag.
Keeping the merits of Digigear, we considered how to make the gear tougher than ever. We studied all aspects; diameter, thickness, teeth shape and size. We experimented and tested everything one by one, refining and improving each element. The result is a leap in the level of Digigear toughness.
HYPERDRIVE DESIGN
The HYPERDRIVE DESIGN concept comprises a combination of different manufacturing techniques, which considerably improve the functioning and the lifespan of a baitcasting reel:
• HYPER Armed Housing a distortion-proof metal frame (Magnesium, Aluminium) that permanently houses the gear unit in a safe way within the body.
• HYPERDRIVE Digigear, the gear is further strengthened by larger teeth in the traction wheel but offers nevertheless a very smooth and round functioning due to a special manufacturing procedure
• HYPER Double Support, the pinion gear is mounted via each a ball bearing at both sides, leading to a better and more even power transmission from the handle. The surface of the pinion gear is specially treated to prevent electrostatic corrosion.
• HYPER Tough Drag, the drag mechanics have been optimized to remain safely in their position also at hard casts.
TWS - T-Wing System
DAIWAs T-Wing system solves an age old problem with baitcasting reel levelwind systems. The "T" aperture allows line to flow freely through the wide top section on outcast, reducing the normally sharp angles, and friction that slow line flowing through a narrow aperture when exiting the reel. For retrieve line drops in the narrow, lower channel of the „T-WING“ for even distribution across the spool width.

Airdrive Shaft is a newly developed shaft that minimizes friction and power dispersion, producing incredibly smoother and quieter rotation. The Main Shaft, responsible for the oscillating movement of the spool, is supported by two special collars and slides inside the pinion without ever touching it, unlike traditional systems.
An evolution of the famous Air Bail, the Airdrive Bail headband is thinner, lighter and more resistant at the same time. Its inclination has also been revised in order to improve the flow of the thread towards the roller.
A spool re-designed in shape and substance to optimize weight and performance: the record weight allows for better oscillation quality, while the new deflector prevents the line from ending up twisting around the shaft. The clicker mechanism has also been redesigned to achieve a higherpitched sound.

Always a paradigm of lightness, the new Luvias takes this characteristic even further to the extreme, adopting the new technological solutions of the construction concept called AIRDRIVE Design. Thanks to the redesign of the rotor (AIRDRIVE Rotor), spool (AIRDRIVE spool), shaft (AIRDRIVE shaft) and drag (AIRDRIVE bail), the new Luvias was able to benefit from notable weight savings: taking the 2500 size as a reference, compared to the previous model the weight goes from 175 to 150 grams. The total redesign of each construction element has led not only to greater lightness but also to an improvement in smoothness and fluidity in use, reducing the rotation inertia of the rotor to a minimum: this makes it even more reactive to the first stress
of the crank and in the stop and go during the retrieve, thus improving the precision in imparting the right movements to the lure in spinning fishing.
An important new feature on the new Luvias is the ATD-L drag, an evolution of the famous ATD progressive drag: it is now even softer at the initial stress and then hardens in an even more progressive way to successfully retrieve the fish. This allows for less stress on the line, thus allowing you to fish more easily and safely with thin leaders.
In the 2000 and 2500 S sizes the drag is now calibrated to a max drag of 5kg (in the old 2500 size it was 10kg) for further improved sensitivity and precision in finesse techniques.

• Use a soft sponge.
• Only use diluted neutral detergents (1.5 ml per 1 L of water).

The secret of the perfect curve of Daiwa rods is hidden between the layers of carbon that make up their structure. Along the Blanck of any rod in action, compressive and tensile stresses coexist, which normal carbon fibers can cope with very well. When torsion occurs, the carbon tubular can fail. Torsion causes: fractures, inaccuracy in casting, reduction in distance due to misalignment of the guide, loss of power due to the disorderly transmission of force along the shaft.

The Amorphous Bolo Bolognese rods were designed based on SVF carbon treated with special Nanoplus resin, a technology that manages to enhance the characteristics of each polymer, making the composite reach a very high degree of cohesion and density.
The diameters of the rods have been reduced compared to the previous series to obtain slimmer structures which, with very rigid and resistant materials, originate deep curves only under strong tractions, maintaining a speed that was previously the prerogative of rods with larger diameters.

What is the first thing predatory fish look for when identifying prey? It is the reflective light emitted by the body of the fish. Baitfish such as sardines possess a skin structure capable of almost completely reflecting incoming light—this phenomenon, called specular reflection, creates an intense shine that triggers the predatory instincts of fish-eaters. Many lures claiming to shine brightly have been produced to date. However, most use a type of reflection known as diffuse reflection, which, when observed underwater, only covers a range of a few meters. Additionally, the direction of the reflected light is fixed, making it difficult to attract fish over a wide area.
To solve this, Daiwa developed an innovative new technology that combines specular reflection, which reflects light with minimal loss, and retro-reflection, which returns light directly to its source. At the end of a fishing session, too many anglers leave behind pieces of line, sinkers and swivels on the banks. It is important to know that wildlife can become entangled in these materials or, even worse, ingest them. Taking these items home costs nothing, but it makes a big difference.
