A farewell to a familiar face WDE celebrates retirement for Stampfl, welcomes Miller, Dommisse, Ripp to staff BY KRISTA KUZMA Staff writer
For the past 28 years, Ruth Stampfl has been a familiar face for many people who interact with the World Dairy Expo office; however, this year brings about change for Expo’s staff. After starting her career with World Dairy Expo in 1989, Stampfl retired from the organization in June. “Ruth’s welcoming personality was part of the World Dairy Expo experience for many of our attendees and exhibitors – both commercial and dairy cattle over the last 28 years. We will certainly miss her as an employee,” said Scott Bentley, World Dairy Expo General Manager. At the time of her retirement, Stampfl served as

People who attend a memorable event, such as World Dairy Expo, often like to bring home a little something to remind them of their experiences. At Expo, the Purple Cow Gift Shop™ is the perfect place to find such items, including hats, T-shirts, jackets and key chains. Ameriprint Apparel has been supplying clothing items to the Purple Cow Gift Shop for the past 20 years. Kim Erb is the owner of Ameriprint Apparel, located in Sun Prairie, Wis. “I was a marketing rep for a large insurance company,” Erb said. “That job gradually went away, so I began working at my husband’s retail store located on State Street in Madison. Groups, such as sports teams or high schools, would come in and ask for custom-printed T-shirts, so we started a small custom-printing business. Before long, our printing and embroidering business grew to the point where we had to relocate our equipment to a former chicken coop on my husband’s parents’ farm.” Erb soon began to get orders from cheese shops located in the region. “We were supplying cheese gift shops with dairy-related T-shirts at the time,” recalled Erb. “Our salesperson

contacted World Dairy Expo to see if they would carry our merchandise and the rest is history.” As an official supplier of World Dairy Expo garb, Erb works closely with Expo staff to design products that will be popular and memorable for attendees. “We meet with Annette Ziegler, WDE Accounting Manager and manager of the Purple Cow Gift Shop, and other Expo staff, and pitch them
ideas,” Erb said. “There is always a theme for Expo, so that makes our job easier. Expo staff will look at our ideas and make suggestions. Our two graphic designers and I go back and forth with Expo staff until we come up with something that we all like. It’s a creative process; we really enjoy it.” In addition to T-shirts and jackets, Erb’s business supplies the polos Turn to MERCHANDISE | Page 4
