APM Terminals sees record growth for API data feeds and accelerates Roll-Out THE HAGUE: Encouraged by a 36% year-on-year growth for its real-time API data feeds, APM Terminals has added data sources for two further terminals, APM Terminals Pecém, Brazil and Aqaba Container Terminal, Jordan. As part of its commitment to lift standards of digital connectivity, it has also frozen API prices for the third consecutive year. “With industr y margins under pressure and decarbonisation top of the agenda, efficiency gains that can be achieved by accelerating digitalisation of the port industry are essential,” says Laura Bercan, responsible for Visibility Products at APM Terminals. “By freezing prices, we want to encourage a new wave of supply chain partners to adopt a technology that can bring enormous benefits to their business." How APIs support the customer experience APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) offer a standardised and secure way to enable two applications to talk to each other. APM Terminals’, industry-leading APIs enable customers to pull real-time container and vessel status data from its Terminal Operating Systems, into their own internal systems, such as a Logistics or Transport Management System (TMS). This means that customers always have the latest information at their fingertips, such as the time a container will be available for pick-up, the time that free storage expires, or appointment availability. Having this level of visibility can shave time pressure off supply chains. Improved connectivity, visibility, and efciency APM Terminals Pecém is one of the first terminals in Brazil to provide an API data feed. Port of Antwerp-Bruges & CMB.TECH launch the Hydrotug 1, world’s first hydrogen-powered tugboat ANTWERP: Port of Antwerp-Bruges and CMB.TECH announce a world first: the Hydrotug 1, the first hydrogen-powered tugboat, is ready for operation in the Antwerp port area. This ground-breaking development will play a crucial role in Port of Antwerp-Bruges’ efforts to green its fleet and to achieve climate neutrality by 2050. With the Hydrotug 1, CMB.TECH reaffirms its international leadership role in the transition to environmentally friendly fuel-powered ships. The Hydrotug 1 is the first tugboat in the world to be powered by combustion engines that burn hydrogen in combination with traditional fuel. It is the first vessel that uses the BeHydro V12 dual fuel medium speed engines – each providing 2 megawatts – with the latest EU Stage V emissions aftertreatment. Adani Ports board approves issuance of NCDs worth Rs. 5,250 crore AHMEDABAD: The Board of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited on Tuesday, December 12, approved bonds and preference shares sale plan of up to Rs. 5,250 crore. The Adani Group entity will issue non-convertible debentures (NCDs) of up to Rs. 5,000 crore in one or more tranches on private placement basis. The company will also issue non-cumulative redeemable preference shares of up to Rs. 250.2 crore in one or more tranches on a private placement basis. “We wish to inform you that the Board of Directors of the company at its meeting held on December 12, 2023 has given their in-principle approval for issuance of Non-Convertible Debentures for capex/refinancing of existing debt and general corporate purpose for an aggregate amount not exceeding Rs. 5,000 crore in one or more tranches on private placement basis,” it said. “Issuance of non-cumulative redeemable preference shares on private placement basis for an aggregate amount not exceeding Rs. 250.19 crore in one or more tranches on private placement basis,” the company said.
The debentures to be issued will be listed on the bourses. The tenure of the instrument, date of allotment and date of maturity will be determined from time to time at the time of issue, the company said. Global brokerage Citi has upgraded the target price for Adani Ports on the possibility of a rerating. Citi has a ‘Buy’ rating on the counter, citing attractive valuations and a strong business. Meanwhile, Kotak has raised Adani Ports Ebitda estimates, citing market share gains on operational efficiencies and cargo diversification at India’s largest private ports operator.
Indian goods worth $3.7 billion entering Oman to get boost by FTA : GTRI NEW DELHI: Over 83.5 per cent of Indian goods worth USD 3.7 billion such as gasoline, iron and steel, electronics, and machinery will get a significant boost in Oman, once both sides reach a comprehensive free trade agreement, a report said on Tuesday. According to the – India-OMAN CEPA: Gateway to Middle Eastern Markets and Beyond – report, prepared by think tank Global trade Reproach Initiative (GTRI), these goods at present face a 5 per cent import duty in Oman. India and Oman are negotiating a comprehensive economic partnership agreement (CEPA), under which the two countries could significantly reduce or eliminate customs duties on the maximum number of goods agreed between them. With the new trade agreement, these products, including major export items like motor gasoline (exports worth USD 1.7 billion), iron and steel products (exports worth USD 235 million), electronics (USD 135 million), machinery (USD 125 million), aluminium oxide (USD 126 million), textiles (USD 110 million), alumina calcined (USD 105 million), plastics (USD 64 million), boneless meat (USD 50 million), essential oils (USD 47 million), and motor cars (USD 28 million), will benefit from duty elimination, it said. However, it added that about 16.5 per cent of Indian exports to Oman,
worth USD 800 million and goods that already have duty-free access, will not see additional benefits from the agreement. These items include wheat (USD 45 million), basmati rice (USD 125 million), fruits, vegetables (USD 76 million), medicines (USD 76 million), fish (USD 13.7 million), tea, coffee (USD 17.7 million). “The duty elimination will aid most Indian exports, but significant growth in the Omani market, a small, middleincome economy with a USD 25,000 per capita income, will also depend on product quality improvements,” GTRI Co-Founder Ajay Srivastava said. He said that India can hope to radically increase its exports post the free trade agreement, as currently over 80 per cent of its goods enter Oman at average 5 per cent import duties, and there are not many trade barriers. Oman’s import duty ranges from 0 to 100 per cent along with the existence of specific duties. 100 per cent duty is applicable on specific meats, wines and tobacco products. India’s merchandise imports from Oman were USD 7.9 billion in 2022-23. Key imports are petroleum products (USD 4.6 billion) and urea (USD 1.2 billion). These account for 73 per cent of imports. Other key products are propylene and ethylene polymers (USD 383 million), pet coke (USD $265 million),
gypsum (USD 115 million), chemicals (USD 417 million), iron and steel (USD 62 million), and unwrought aluminium (USD 95 million). “These products will gain from FTAled tariff elimination by India. Most are raw materials and input to industries and India has opened most such imports from other F TA partner countries,” the report said. On the services side, it said, in 2022, India’s service exports to Oman were worth about USD 2.8 billion, while its imports were USD 0.2 billion. “India could seek increased access to the Omani market for business services and computer and information ser vices, which Oman regularly imports. India might also negotiate for priority visas for its professionals on short-term assignments in Oman. Oman has a weak services sector and may not press for much opening of Indian markets,” Srivastava said. To provide greater market access for its pharma products, India may request Oman for track approval for Indian pharma products that are already registered with the US Food and Dr ug Administration (USFDA), UK drug regulator MHRA and European Medicines Agency, it said. India’s free trade agreement with the UAE has a similar proposal. India has implemented a trade agreement with the UAE in May. Both Oman and UAE are members of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

Shipping Minister highlights incentives to attract International Cruise lines NEW DELHI: The Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Wa t e r w a y s , S h r i S a r b a n a n d a Sonowal informed the Parliament that during 2022-23, 60 port calls and during 2023-24 (upto 31.10.2023), 29 port calls were made at various Indian Ports viz. Mumbai, Mormugao, New Mangalore, Cochin, C h e n n a i a n d Tu t i c o r i n b y international cruise liners. To attract International Cruise lines, several incentives have been given, as below. (i) For berthing, cruise vessel is given priority over cargo vessel. (ii) Rationalised cruise tariff has been introduced. a. Port charges are recovered
@ $0.085/GRT (fixed rate) and a nominal passenger head tax of $ 6 for first 12 hours of stay at berth. b. Cruise ships are provided discounts ranging from 10% to 30% based on volume of their calls. (iii) Ousting charges have been removed to attract cruise vessels. (iv) E-Visa and on-arrival visa facilities have been extended. (v) Single e-Landing Card has been introduced which is valid for all ports in cruise itinerary. (vi) Cabotage has been waived for foreign cruise vessels. This relaxation allows foreign cruise ships to transport Indian nationals from one Indian Port to another Indian Port during their domestic leg.
(vii) In order to promote tourism, conditional IGST exemption has been approved for foreign flag foreign going vessel when it converts to coastal run, subject to its reconversion to foreign going vessel within six months. (viii) During Global Maritime India Summit, 2023 a session on ‘Embark on a voyage to attract 50 million Cruise Passengers in India by 2047’ and a ‘Roundtable with Cruise lines’ were organized with participation of stakeholders. (ix) Up-gradation and modernization of Cruise Terminals at New Mangalore, Cochin, Chennai, Mormugao and Visakhapatnam have been completed.

At the event, Goyal said that the International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) at GIFT City has become a lynchpin in propelling India’s export-led growth. “GIFT City will play a pivotal role in powering India’s exports to USD 2 trillion by 2030, and then onwards to up to USD 10 trillion that it envisages to see by 2047,” he said. Goyal further added that during the next 2-3 decades we hope to see sustained, inclusive growth, during which we are confident of offering
sustainable and inclusive development for every single person in the country. He said India’s target of crossing a USD 1 trillion economy in the next three years, having USD 1 trillion of merchandise and USD 1 trillion of service collectively and USD 2 trillion of exports by 2030 will have a massive impact on the country’s economy. “This export-led growth will create jobs and work opportunities for youth, give a boost to ‘Make In India’, further opportunities to Start Up India vision, and encourage new
innovators to come up with brilliant ideas,” he said. The Minister added that towards that hand-holding, we yesterday allocated Rs 2,500 crore for interest equalisation to ensure that our small exporters, MSMEs particularly, continue to get export support in terms of interest equalisation to equate interest between Indian rates and international rates. 1,176 km of 1,506-km WDFC complete : Railway Minister NEW DELHI : Railway Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw has informed Rajya Sabha, that out of the 1,506 km We s t e r n D e d i c a t e d F r e i g h t Corridor(WDFC), 1,176 km has been completed. The Western Dedicated Freight Corridor connecting Jawaharlal Nehru Port Terminal to Dadri passes through Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Mehsana, Patan, Banas Kantha, Anand, Kheda, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Valsad and Navsari districts in Gujarat, he said last Friday. Responding to a question by BJP MP Rambhai Harjibhai Mokaria, the
Railway Minister said the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor will promote industrial activities in the region by leveraging the industrial corridors, townships, new freight terminals, multimodal cargo terminals, multimodal logistic parks and inland container depots in Gujarat. Better and faster connectivity of western ports with the hinterland industries will reduce transit time and logistic costs for the customers, Vaishnaw said. Mokaria wanted to know the present status of the construction work on the Delhi-Mumbai Freight
Corridor and the percentage of work completed. He also sought to know the number of districts of Gujarat through which this corridor is passing through and the details of the benefits of the construction of this corridor to these districts. Reports in a section of media had earlier claimed that 1,279 km of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor has been completed. However, officials of Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited clarified that the correct figure is 1,176 km which the minister presented in Parliament.
NHAI inks agreement to develop Multi Modal Logistics Park at Nagpur at a cost of Rs. 673 crore NAGPUR: NHAI has signed an agreement with DC Multi Modal Park (Nagpur) Limited, a SPV of DeltaBulk Shipping India Pvt. Ltd., for the development of Multi Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) at Nagpur. The MMLP will be developed in an area of 150 acres under the Public Private Partnership model at an estimated cost of Rs.673 crore. This project is poised to be the first MMLP in Maharashtra under the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, making it a significant milestone in the country’s development. The MMLP will be developed in three phases. The Phase-I with an investment of Rs. 137 crore is expected to be completed in two years. MMLP will cater to about 9.47 million metric tonnes (MMT) cargo in the horizon period of 45 years and will give huge boost to the industrial zones in the catchment region such as Nagpur, Wardha, Chandrapur and Gondiya. It will create a lot of
employment opportunities and bring in economic development in the region. The MMLP shall be developed at Sindi (near railway station) in Wadha district of Maharashtra. The site is strategically located at a distance of around 3 km from Nagpur – Mumbai Maha-Samruddhi Mahamarg on one side and Howrah – Nagpur – Mumbai rail line on other side. Rail siding of length 3.0 km from Sindi Railway station on Hawrah-Nagpur- Mumbai rail line is substantially completed. The MMLP is also being provided access from four lane Nagpur – Aurangabad, NH 361. The site is 48 km from Nagpur Inter national Airport and 56 km from Nagpur railway station. A g o v e r n m e n t S P V, N a g p u r MMLP Pvt. Ltd. is formed between National Highways Logistics Management Limited (NHLML), a 100% owned company of NHAI and Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA). JNPA has provided land for
development of MMLP & NHLML is providing the external rail, road connectivity as well as water and power supply. The MMLP will provide facilities such as Warehouses, cold storages, inter modal transfers, handling facilities for container terminals, bulk/break-bulk cargo terminals along with Value Added Services such as sorting/ grading and aggregation/ desegregation areas, bonded warehouse and customs facilities as well as support logistics facilities such as offices for freight forwarders and transporters and truck terminals. Development of MMLP is a key initiative of the Government of India to improve the country’s freight logistics sector by enabling efficient inter-modal freight movement to lower overall freight costs and time, provide efficient warehousing, improve tracking and traceability of consignments thereby enhancing the efficiency of the Indian logistics sector.

BCBA, FIEO and Air Cargo Customs jointly holds AEO Seminar cum Webinar MUMBAI: We are thrilled to share that the Brihanmumbai Custom Brokers Association (BCBA) and the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO), in collaboration with Air Cargo Customs, Mumbai Zone-III, successfully organized a Seminar Cum Webinar on the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) Scheme on 6th December, 2023. The event took place at the FIEO conference room in Mumbai, marking a significant step towards facilitating new businesses and addressing issues related to the AEO Program. Amendments in SEZ Act to benet commercial ofce leasing Flexibility to demarcate part area without significant cost implica ons a posi ve MUMBAI: India’s office space leasing is expected to benefit from the recent amendments to the Special Economic Zones Act, 2005 (SEZ Act) notified by the Department of Commerce on December 6, 2023. The amendments permit demarcation of part of the SEZ area into non-SEZ area[1] after repayment of tax benefits availed till date. Such demarcated area is expected to have better occupancy, in line with the existing non-SEZ spaces. Hence, benefits from better leasing and higher income of demarcated area will outweigh associated costs. SEZ Act was introduced to drive exports by providing tax exemptions for the companies operating in SEZs. While the sunset clause on these benefits kicked in from April 2020, higher compliance requirements continued. Further, prior to the amendment, operators could denotify only the land parcel from SEZ to non-SEZ, which required the entire built-up area over the said land parcel to be vacated before applying for de-notification. Consequently, SEZ spaces have witnessed a gradual exit of tenants leading to a decline in occupancy.
A CRISIL Ratings analysis of office space operators with over Rs 70,000 crore debt and total grade A leasable area of ~188 million square feet (msf), of which SEZs account for 47-49%, indicates as much. Says Anand Kulkarni, Director, CRISIL Ratings, “The revisions will allow commercial office operators to demarcate non-SEZ areas within SEZs on a floor-wise basis, which in turn will unlock these demarcated spaces to a wider tenant base and will support faster leasing. Occupancy for SEZs stands at ~81% against a strong ~93% for the non-SEZ spaces as of September 2023. This translates into ~17 msf of vacant SEZ space in our portfolio, which has higher likelihood of getting demarcated.” Says Saina Kathawala, Associate Director, CRISIL Ratings, “Our preliminary assessment indicates that the repayments associated with demarcation would be equivalent to just 3-6 months of rental income generated by a comparable non-SEZ area. Hence, the benefit, in terms of better occupancy and consequent higher rental income, will outweigh the costs.”

Optimist of achieving $2 trillion exports through Industry-Govt collaboration, says Additional Secretary, MoCI NEW DELHI: Shri Amardeep Singh Bhatia, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, emphasized collaborative efforts between the industry and government, expressing optimism about achieving a $2 trillion export target, particularly in areas covered by Free Trade Agreements, while speaking at the Leveraging Trade Policy and RTAs for Industry: Stakeholder Consultation event organized today at PHD House, New Delhi. He informed that the Department of Commerce is actively undergoing restructuring to enhance its capabilities in this domain, acknowledging the complexity of negotiations involving substantial matters and ongoing consultations. Mr. Bhatia added that the goal is to ensure a level playing field for the domestic industry, facilitate market access for foreign players, and enhance consumer gains. He highlighted the challenges in trade agreements and stressed the need for industry preparedness due to certain rigid clauses. Additionally, he noted the government’s numerous schemes addressing taxation and other concerns, along with active participation in trade promotional activities through collaboration with trade councils and associations. Fu r t h e r, r e c o g n i z i n g t h e i m p o r t a n c e o f understanding trade instruments, quality requirements, and local barriers such as taxes, Mr. Bhatia emphasized the crucial role of PHDCCI and industry associations in promoting and conveying these issues. Smt. Sonia Pant, Deputy Director-General, DMEO, NITI Aayog, highlighted the significance of
Free Trade Agreements, informing that there are over 350 FTAs on the WTO website, with India being part of some. She emphasized the growing importance of FTAs, anticipating issues like labor and sustainable development becoming part of new FTAs. She pointed out the low utilization rate of FTAs due to complex rules of origin, lack of awareness, and a multitude of products even on a global level. Despite this, recent years have seen a resurgence in FTAs, coupled with initiatives like the PLI scheme and Aatmanirbhar Bharat, propelling India toward a higher global value chain. She further suggested strategies, including effective monitoring, data rate utilization, and aligning export promotion strategies with FTAs to enhance their impact. Prof. Manoj Pant, Advisor, PHDCCI’s Policy Forum, emphasized that, in today’s context, Regional Trade Agreements (RTAs) take precedence over multilateral trade negotiations. Despite the era of Global Value Chains (GVCs), bilateral liberalization holds more significance than multilateral approaches. Pant highlighted the crucial role of Regional Trade Agreements, stating that no country can afford to overlook them. He noted that Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are particularly illprepared to comprehend the implications of New Age Free Trade Agreements (FTAs). Pant called upon industrial organizations, such as PHDCCI, to step forward and address the concerns of MSMEs, emphasizing the need for proactive engagement in conveying the intricacies of FTAs to this sector. Dr. Jatinder Singh, Assistant Secretary-General, PHDCCI, delivered the welcome address.
