APSEZ becomes the 1st Indian Port Coronavirus pandemic a catalyst for to sign up for Science Based Targets Shipping’s Digitalization : Survey LONDON: The coronavirus pandemic is proving to be a Initiative (SBTi) catalyst for the digitalization of shipping, prompting ocean AHMEDABAD: Strengthening India’s commitment to the 'Paris Climate Agreement’, APSEZ has signed up for the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Through SBTi, companies are responding by committing to set science-based emissions reduction targets — across their entire value chain — that are consistent with keeping global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. Committed companies have 24 months to have their targets approved and published by the SBTi. The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a c o l l a b o r a t i o n b e t w e e n C D P, t h e U n i t e d N a t i o n s Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). supply chain stakeholders to abandon manual processes and embrace automation to drive business growth, a new survey by transport management systems provider Haven Inc shows. The survey found that global business lockdowns had highlighted the time and cost savings available to decisionmakers willing to make the leap away from traditional management processes heavily reliant on paperwork. 35% of respondents said the use of manual processes caused delays, 30% said quotations took too long while 20% complained that booking processes were cumbersome. 42% of survey takers also reported they were now looking to upgrade their systems by investing in the further digitalization of their international shipment processes. RINL completes direct rail link to port to achieve export logistic efficiencies PARADIP: Focusing on sustaining exports of semi-finished steel through higher logistical efficiencies and lower costs, Indian state-run steel producer Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) has completed direct rail links to nearby ports, a company official has said. The official said that a new rail link has been operationalized directly connecting steel smelting
shop 2 (SMS2) at its steel mill located at Vishakhapatnam, which in turn would directly link up with rail lines connecting the plant to Vishakhapatnam port and Gangavaram port in close proximity. The RINL spokesman said that the company, which was strategically pushing higher export volumes of semis, would be benefited by the new rail link
directly to port by a reduction in delivery timelines for overseas buyers and it would also reduce transportation costs compared to the current transportation of export shipments by trailers from the plant site to the loading ports. The SMS2, which largely caters to semis export markets, produces around 130,000 mt to 150,000 mt of semi-finished products per month.

M r. S a h i l S e t h w a s b o r n o n 05th November, 1985. He was born and brought up in Amritsar, Punjab. He did his schooling and graduation in B.TECH electronics and c o m m u n i c a t i o n f r o m A m r i t s a r. He cleared his civil service exam
in 2011( IRS) and got appointed in Customs, GST and Narcotics. He has handled many diversified assignments. He has looked after custom dry port in Ludhiana from 2013-2014. Then he was given the charge to look after as Assistant Commissioner Central Excise Jammu from 2014-16.
Later he moved to Mumbai in 2016 and was given the charge of Deputy Commissioner Service Tax Mumbai. A year later after the launch of GST he was given to look after the charge of Deputy Commissioner GST, Bhiwandi. Presently he is working as a Deputy Commissioner JN Customs.

The SBTi defines and promotes best practices in sciencebased target setting and independently assesses companies’ targets. Over 800 companies have committed to set science-based emissions reduction targets. APSEZ has also signed commitment as a supporter to the Taskforce on Climate Related Financial Disclosure (TCFD), which develops voluntary, consistent climate-related financial risk disclosures for use by companies in providing information to investors, lenders, insurers, and other stakeholders. A total of 16 Indian companies are supporting the TCFD out of which two are Adani Group’s subsidiaries. As a group, we are committed to a sustainable future driven by continuous interventions in our processes and operations. APSEZ is committed to SBTi and TCFD to ensure emission reductions are achieved with defined
targets towards the goal of becoming carbon neutral. This is another significant step demonstrating the Adani Group's stated commitment of contributing to India's COP21 targets and global climate goals." said Mr. Karan Adani, Chief Executive Officer and Whole Time Director of APSEZ. “We have less than 10 years to fundamentally change our economies or we will face catastrophic consequences,” said Lise Kingo, CEO & Executive Director of the UN Global Compact, one of the SBTi partners. “For the first time, we are seeing business and climate leaders coalesce around a common call-to -action, sending a powerful signal that science-based target setting presents a significant opportunity for businesses to step up when it comes to tackling climate change and limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius.” Paul Simpson, CEO of CDP, one of the SBTi partners, said: “The science is clear: in order to limit the catastrophic
impacts of climate change, we must ensure warming does not exceed 1.5°C. The ambition is high but it’s achievable — and science-based targets give companies a roadmap for getting there. Corporations worldwide have an unprecedented opportunity to be at the very forefront of the transition to a netzero economy — and there is no time to lose.” APSEZ is one out of a total of 43 Indian companies who have signed a commitment letter to SBTi. A total of 909 companies are taking science-based climate action and 392 companies have approved science-based targets through SBTi. The Adani group has also set a goal to become the world’s largest solar power company by 2025 and the world’s largest renewable power company by 2030, through achieving an installed generation capacity of 25 GW of renewable power by 2025 which in turn will see a total investment of $15 billion in the renewable energy space over the next 5 years.

37% were looking to upgrade in 1-3 years, 12% hoped to upgrade in 3-5 years, and, 8% were either not looking at all to upgrade or to do so later than five years from now. “With so many people working from home during the pandemic, companies were finding new ways to trade and this was opening their eyes to digital solutions across their businesses,” Brad Klaus, Chief Executive Officer of Haven, commented. “This need extends to digital transport management solutions, particularly for those who are dealing with international shipments. From a management point of view, once you see the benefits, it’s hard to go back to manual systems and mountains of paper.” The survey was conducted independently for Haven by logistics and freight educational portal Shipping & Freight Resource.
The majority of respondents (67 %) were freight and logistics decision-makers in Director/VP and C-Level positions while others held middle-management and supervisory positions (28.9%). Other survey takers worked in freight and shipping operations and administration including, documentation, analytics, and corporate counsels. 51% of participants used both air and sea modes for international shipments. 41% used only sea, 6% used only air and 2% operated in only the U.S. domestic market. 56% reported wanting to increase the efficiency of their booking management and 40% were on the lookout for a better freight audit solution. 61% of respondents said they wanted to improve their quotation management and track and trace visibility, while 60% were looking to improve their document management.
“We want freight invoice control and cost calculation for a shipment with the easy understanding of the margin,” said one respondent. However, while lean and automated processes were viewed by most respondents as the best solution, a number of perceived obstacles to implementation were reported. 35% of participants said budget was a major barrier to the automation of freight operations, while 21% said there was a lack of adequate technology. 19% felt the struggle was a lack of internal expertise, 13% said it was due to lack of internal resources, and 10% stated it was due to a lack of support from leadership. “I think the survey proves that the current pandemic has made it crystal clear that it is possible to streamline p r o c e s s e s u s i n g t e c h n o l o g y, ” Klaus said. “When trade is transparent, deals close faster, ships sail at capacity, and the entire supply chain benefits.”

Railways’ first Cargo Express to run on Hyderabad-Delhi route HYDERABAD: In an initiative aimed at increasing the market share of Indian Railways in the movement of general cargo across the nation, the South Central Railway (SCR) will be launching its first Cargo Express train on August 5. The SCR announced that under this concept, a time tabled freight train will be started from Sanath Nagar in Hyderabad to Adarsh Nagar in New Delhi. The SCR has taken this as a pilot project for a period of six months and would be running the Cargo Express once a week every Wednesday. “Generally, only those commodities are being moved by freight trains which are in bulk and require transportation of a huge quantity by a single train by the customers. All these freight trains are
generally loaded with a single commodity. However, with the gradual increase in the market for transportation of non-bulk commodity segments, it is imperative that Railways take steps to attract this segment of traffic as well,” it said. Under this unique concept, general cargo will be carried into a single train to the mutual benefit of both Railways and freight customers because transportation by the Railways is not only safest but is also cost-effective. For the first time in nearly four decades, Indian Railways is permitting wagon level indenting to aid small and medium-sized customers. The average freight tariff from Hyderabad to Delhi and vice-versa is Rs 2,500 per tonne, depending on the type of commodity loaded. It is almost 40 per cent lesser than charges applicable by road and also the existing railway parcel tariff. The Cargo Express can be tracked on FOIS on a real time basis. The loading/unloading facility is also available at both Sanath Nagar (Hyderabad) and Adarsh Nagar (Delhi) Goods Sheds at competitive rates.
20 sectors identified where India can become supplier to the world: Piyush Goyal NEW DELHI: Commerce and Industry Mminister Piyush Goyal has said the Government has identified eight more sectors where India can become a supplier to the world, in addition to the 12 industry sectors already zeroed in. “There were 12 sectors earlier…now we have identified eight more sectors where India can become leaders to supply to the world,” Goyal said at a FICCI event. Food processing, iron and steel,
electronics, industrial machinery, furniture, auto parts, and leather and footwear, are among the12 industry sectors identified earlier with potential for import substitution and boosting exports. The move is part of India’s aim to become self-reliant, which Goyal said means that the country will engage wherever it has a competitive edge and skills. “The only way to remain competitive is by harnessing new technologies.
Some jobs may need reskilling but on the aggregate, we will add to jobs and work opportunities,” he said. The minister said that lack of effective technology intervention has triggered inequality in many parts of the world. “The US is growing on the basis on research, development and innovation,” he said, adding that technology will help bridge the divide between ‘haves’ and ‘have-nots’.
Affordable, simple import of wood to help promote furniture manufacturing in India: Piyush Goyal NEW DELHI: Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has said import of wood at affordable rates and with simple processes would help promote domestic manufacturing of furniture. He said furniture should be made in India as there are skilled people here who can make good furniture. The global trade of furniture is about Rs 20-22 lakh crore and "we are not there in that game, on the opposite, we import furniture". The minister said he
is talking to the concerned ministry if India can import wood without any duty and "can we make the process simple" as there are some environmental related issues in that. "No duty should be imposed...wood is not sufficient in India...If we (can) make import of wood affordable and simple...," Goyal said while addressing All India Vaish Federation's webinar on 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat-Opportunity, Challenges and Way forward'. He also
said that the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Tr a d e ( D P I I T ) i s w o r k i n g f o r development of a furniture cluster near a port where "we can have common facilities for testing, research, design, and packaging". In that cluster, he said, furniture can be manufactured at large scale which can meet domestic as well as global requirements. It would also create jobs for lakhs of people, he added.
Shipping lending dips to lowest level in over a decade LONDON: At the beginning of 2020 lending to shipping by the world’s top 40 ship financers was at its lowest level in more than a decade and global ship finance is expected to remain constrained in 2020/2021 in the absence of new positive factors. However, despite this the decline of western banks ship finance appears to have run its course resulting in the stabilisation of western bank ship
finance, according to Athens-based Petrofin Research. A survey by the Ted Petropoulos-led Petrofin found lending by the 40 banks fell from $300.7bn in 2018 to $294.4bn in 2019, the lowest level since Petrofin started monitoring the global portfolio in 2008. In the same period the Petrofin Index for global ship finance has fallen from 100 points to 64, down a point since the end of 2018 and “possibly to a
reappraisal of shipping’s risks/rewards for banks”. Petrofin said “this trend may signal a gradual end of the departure by many European banks from ship finance leaving more committed participants”. Meanwhile the global fleet has grown 31%, indicating the funding is coming from non-banking sources, such as leasing, alternative lending, private equity from funds and investors.

II. Exporters may anytime apply online through DGFT's ECOM system for Export authorizations (Non-SCOMET Restricted items) - Please refer Trade Notice No.50 dated 18-03-2019. There is no need to send any hard copy of the applications via mail or post III. The item description in the application must specify "PPE Medical coveralls for COVID-19 Samples" IV. Nine leading businesses including Maersk launch new initiative to accelerate progress to a net zero future COPENHAGEN: The heads of nine companies has recently announced the establishment of a new initiative to accelerate the transition to a net zero global economy. The initiative, known as Transform to Net Zero, intends to develop and deliver research, guidance, and implementable roadmaps to enable all businesses to achieve net zero emissions. The Initiative will be led by founding members including A.P. Moller – Maersk, Danone, Mercedes-Benz AG, Microsoft Corp., Natura &Co, NIKE, Inc., Starbucks, Unilever, and Wipro, as well as Environmental Defense Fund (EDF). The Initiative is supported by BSR, which is serving as the Secretariat for the Initiative. Transform to Net Zero will focus on enabling the business transformation needed to achieve net zero emissions no later than 2050, in addition to driving broader change with a focus on policy, innovation, and finance. The outputs of the initiative will be widely available to all, though additional companies may join. The Initiative intends to complete the outputs of this work by 2025. The work will be led by the following principles: 1. Focused on transformation: Delivering on our individual commitments and translating into action, which will include corporate strategy, governance and accountability, finance and operations, risk management, procurement, innovation and R&D, marketing, and public affairs. 2. Led by science and best practice data and methods: Committed to standardized approaches to achieve what the best available science requires for a 1.5°C world; committed to improving the quality and availability of research, data, and tools for all; committed to the highest return for the climate on investment.
3. Leveraging existing efforts: Committed to open collaboration with existing net zero initiatives (sign-on, advocacy, sectorial, methodology efforts) to leverage existing work and advance business transformation to net zero. 4. Strong governance and oversight: At the highest levels of the company, governance and oversight structures will work to achieve net zero, including through developing innovative products, services, and business models. 5. Robust reduction and removal across the extended enterprise: Net zero requires emissions reductions across the entire value chain, including impact of products and services and supply chain. Net zero requires us to achieve greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions aligned with the latest science and increase our capacity for GHG removals in the near term to be the path to get companies—and the world—to net zero no later than 2050 to ensure a stable climate, and will mean a mix of climate-positive actions should be pursued. 6. Investment in innovation: Substantial commitment and willingness to invest in and accelerate innovation to achieve net zero transformation, including partnering with others. 7. Policy engagement: Advancing public policy that enables and accelerates progress towards net zero, and engagement with bodies such as trade associations to achieve this objective. 8. Transparency and accountability: Public reporting and disclosure on progress towards net zero transformation to key stakeholders, including investors, customers, consumers, and where required?regulators; sharing information with all stakeholders on good practice to net zero transformation. 9. Just and sustainable transition: We know that marginalised groups and low-income communities bear the greatest impacts of climate change. Therefore, we will help enable conditions needed to achieve effective, just, and sustainable climate solutions for people of all gender, race, or skills.
