FIEO launches “Container Demand e-module” to address containers unavailability MUMBAI: To facilitate assessment of containers requirement as well its fulfilment, FIEO has developed a first level marketplace wherein exporters can post their container demands online. The e-module will help in ground level assessment of containers required in the country while simultaneously enabling the exporting community to negotiate competitive quotes for their requirements. The web link has been made live and exporters across the country have started posting their

container requirement for various origin-destination pairs. The containers requirement uploaded through the e-module are also made visible to Shipping lines/ Freight forwarders/others so that they can express their interest to fulfil such demands. This will also help them to better assess the demand of containers in the country so as to meet it with repositioning of containers or bringing empties. The e-module will also address the issue of container shortage reported by exporters, affecting their shipments

and pulling down country’s exports and claims made by shipping lines that they are fully equipped to provide containers between 1-3 days at all locations for all destinations except for few destinations in Africa as congestions and berthing of ships at these destinations is taking 8-10 days time. Marine Aids to Navigation Bill introduced in Lok Sabha NEW DELHI: With technological changes taking place at a fast pace in marine navigation, a bill to provide for a fresh framework to establish and manage vessel traffic services was introduced in Lok Sabha recently. The Marine Aids to Navigation Bill, 2021 provides for the use of the term

“marine aids to navigation” instead of “lighthouse” to enable further use of modern forms of aids to navigation, according to the bill. The bill, moved by Union minister Mansukh Mandaviya, also seeks to rename the existing Director General of Lighthouse and Lightships as the

Director General to provide a framework for establishment, operation and management of vessel traffic services. According to the statement of objects and reasons of the bill, the government also plans to repeal the Lighthouse Act, 1927 once the present bill becomes a law.

J&K Govt to set up dedicated cell in JKTPO for promoting exports JAMMU: The Jammu & Kashmir government will set up a dedicated cell in JKTPO to substantially boost exports from the union territory. This was conveyed at a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Secretary B V R Subrahmanyam, an official spokesman said. The dedicated export cell in the J&K Trade Promotion Organization (JKTPO) will work on support measures required to boost exports in sectors in which the UT has a relative competitive advantage. The cell will work as the single-point contact between government authorities and various stakeholders, the spokesman said. The export cell will also be an advisory agency for engaging with sector-wise beneficiaries and recommending welfare measures in the for m of required handholding financial incentives, and product-specific assistance. Besides, it will coordinate with the Export Promotion Council, international

trade bodies, FIEO, India Promotion Trade Organization, among others. The meeting was informed that efforts of the Centre and state governments are being synergized to create institutional mechanisms to promote trade with a special focus on the MSME sector which often lacks the knowledge or risk appetite to venture in the international market, he said. The creation of export cell intends to boost export potential of the districts by identifying products and export clusters in each district through District Level Export Committees, he added. This new approach not only decentralizes the planning process but also puts the local producers and manufacturers at its centre, the spokesman said. It was informed that the Department is establishing a Dry Port at Katra as an inland intermodal terminal directly connected by road and rail to a seaport for the trans-shipment of cargo to be traded

from Jammu & Kashmir, he said. The Dry Port will house container terminals and Customs office to facilitate exports directly from J&K. The Department is also organizing various training and registration drives for traders and exporters to create awareness among them, besides proactively engaging in capacity building measures to improve quality assessment, supply chain management and logistics under a well-defined export strategy. Moreover, ”buyer-seller” meets are being held regularly to create business-tobusiness synergy, and guidance is being provided to exporters on matters related to standardization, quality certifications, export finance and product insurance, he added. The Chief Secretary exhorted the Department to undertake extensive branding of J&K”s products by developing a unique logo and hallmark for easy identification and quality assurance in the international market.

BEIJING: After the coastal ports including Shanghai, Xiamen, Qingdao, Ningbo, Guangzhou and Tianjin, Wuhu Port has become the first inland port in China to realize blockchain-based paperless import cargo delivery. It is a key initiative of Cosco Shipping to actively respond to the integration of Yangtze River Delta, to implement requirements of the Ministry of Transport on the “clearway program” of port and shipping for imported e-commerce cargo, and to further promote the digitalization of shipping. Since November 2019, Cosco Shipping has been promoting the application of blockchain-based contactless cargo delivery at several domestic ports. Nearly 70,000 teu of cargo have been picked up in a contactless and quick way through the blockchain-based paperless cargo delivery platform up till now.

India’s Exports during March 1st to 14th up 17% at USD14 bn NEW DELHI: Showing healthy signs of revival, India’s exports grew 17.27 percent to USD 14.22 billion during March 1-14 as compared to the year-ago period, according to the commerce ministry’s preliminary data. Imports during the period increased 27.77 percent to USD 22.24 billion, leaving a trade deficit of USD 8.02 billion, the data showed. The key sectors which recorded a healthy growth in exports include engineering, rice, gems and jewellery.

However, exports of leather, oilseeds and ready-made garments of all textiles contracted during the period. Imports of golds, electronic goods and pearls, precious and semi-precious stones registered growth during the period. Growing for the third consecutive month, the country’s exports rose marginally by 0.67 percent year-on-year to USD 27.93 billion in February even as trade deficit widened to USD 12.62 billion.

As part of the deal, n i n e UA C C I M O 2 M R (medium range) chemical tankers will join Bahri Chemicals’ fleet from April 2021 onward, bringing the total number of vessels of the same class that it operates to 31. Eng. Abdullah Aldubaikhi, CEO of Bahri, commented: “We are delighted to announce the successful addition of UACC’s nine IMO2 MR chemical tankers to our fleet under a long-ter m time charter agreement. This transaction is a testament to the resilience of Bahri Chemicals’ business and operations and represents the normal progression of our long-term strategy implementation. The addition of the vessels further underscores that we are well on track to achieve our fleet expansion plans and is closely tied to our ongoing newbuilding program.”

“The UACC vessels are known to us as we managed them in the past, and as sister ships with the same specifications and high standards as our chemical fleet, they will strengthen our capabilities to offer premium services to a wide range of clients worldwide. With a significantly larger fleet, we are better equipped to capture new and emerging opportunities in the market, delivering superior value to Bahri’s shareholders,” added Aldubaikhi. It is worth highlighting that Bahri Chemicals has 10 advanced, eco-design, wide-beam IMO2 MR tankers under construction at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in South Korea with delivery scheduled for 2022. Bahri Chemicals currently owns a fleet of 23 chemical tankers, including 22 IMO2 MRs and one IMO2 LR (long range), as well as five product tankers providing maritime transportation to a global customer base across chemicals, clean petroleum products, and vegetable oils industries.

Certied Pick up proceeding apace at Port of Antwerp ANTWERP: The Certified Pick up has been in use at the Port of Antwerp since January 2021. The digital, safe and integrated solution for the release of containers is a long-term replacement for the current PIN code system. The new way of working guarantees a secure, transparent and optimised release process for incoming containers, which will then leave the port by rail, inland navigation or truck. Signing up to Certified Pick up is mandatory if you are involved in the container release process in Antwerp. This central data platform was developed by NxtPort. At present, nearly 90% of all the shipping companies and terminals in Antwerp have signed up to the system. Up-to-date overview of shipping agents and terminals publishing their data on Certied Pick up Transparency around container status In this initial phase, Certified Pick up offers transparency around the status of your incoming container in the form of a

series of "green lights". When all the lights in the application are on green, you can see at a glance whether the container is ready for collection. This improves operational efficiency for all the users involved. PIN codes will be gone for good Port of Antwerp has chosen a phased approach to guarantee the stable expansion of the system. In the next phase, the various chain partners will switch from the PIN code system to the new handling method with pick-up based on encrypted identification and authorisation data. Truck drivers will pick up containers by identifying themselves digitally. PIN codes will no longer be used for inland navigation or rail, either. The use of Certified Pick up will be mandatory from then on. The legal framework is included in the Port Police Regulations.

Adani Ports set to buy 58.1% stake from Gangavaram Port promoters for over Rs. 3,600 crore MUMBAI: Adani Po r t s a n d S p e c i a l Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) is set to acquire the 58.1 per cent stake held by DVS Raju and family, the promoters of Gangavaram Port Ltd, in a deal worth more than Rs. 3,600 crore that helps raise its stake to 89.6 per cent in the port located in Visakhapatnam. Raju and family own about 30 crore shares in Gangavaram Port Ltd and the deal is said to have been struck at Rs. 120 a share, multiple sources said. On March 3, APSEZ said it has acquired the 31.5 per cent stake held by Windy Lakeside Investment Limited (an affiliate of private equity firm Warburg Pincus LLC) in Gangavaram Port Limited (GPL) at Rs. 120 a share for Rs. 1,954 crore. APSEZ said it was also in discussions with the port promoter DVS Raju and family to buy their 58.1 per cent stake in GPL, the second largest nonmajor port in Andhra Pradesh. “The Adani Group never acquires minority stake in any port,” said a port industry consultant. “They always look for management and operational control. In the case of Gangavaram, it was just a case of sequencing of events,” he added.

APSEZ said it has nothing to say beyond what was mentioned during the March 3 announcement which said it was “in discussions with Raju and family to buy their 58.1 per cent stake”. Gangavaram Port did not respond to a text message seeking comment. The deal expands APSEZ port market share to 30 per cent across 12 locations. Handling capacity GPL is located in the northern part of Andhra Pradesh next to Centreowned Visakhapatnam Port Trust with a capacity to handle 64 million tonnes (mt) of cargo. Gangavaram Port Ltd, the entity that r uns Gangavaram port, was awarded the rights by the Andhra Pradesh government to develop and operate the port for an initial period of 30 years beginning 2009 and extendable by two terms of 10 years each till 2059. GPL is contractually mandated to share 2.1 per ent of its annual gross revenue with the AP government till 2039, 4.2 per cent from 2039 till 2049 and 8.4 per cent between 2049 and 2059.

Gangavaram is an all-weather, deep water, multi-purpose port capable of handling fully laden super capesize vessels of up to 200,000 tonnes. Currently, GPL operates 9 berths and has free hold land of about 1,800 acres. With a master plan capacity for 250 mt with 31 berths, GPL has sufficient headroom to support future growth. GPL handles a diverse mix of dry and bulk commodities including coal, iron ore, fertilizer, limestone, bauxite, sugar, alumina and steel. GPL is the gateway port for a hinterland spread over 8 states across eastern, western, southern and central India. In FY20, GPL handled 34.5 mt of cargo, generated revenue of Rs. 1,082 crore, EBITDA of Rs. 634 crore (margin of 59 per cent) and net profit of Rs. 516 crore. GPL is a debt free company with cash balance of over Rs. 500 crore.

Kerala Seafood exporters seek measures to tide over crisis COCHIN: From the rising diesel price to shrinking supply of local raw materials for processing are hurting the seafood export industry in Kerala, which directly and indirectly employs thousands of people and earns around Rs. 6,500 crore annually in exports. Another round of elections to the State Assembly is an opportunity to think of the negative and positive developments in the past that have affected the industry, the fortunes of which depend largely on wild catch now as well as imports from neighbouring States. The industry suffered major setbacks in the year of the COVID-19 pandemic during which operations

came to a standstill, fishing harbours closed and movement of workers was totally banned. The labour strike at the Colombo port as well as scarcity of containers in the later half of 2020 further affected the fortunes of the seafood export industry. The COVID-19 lockdown in March last and subsequent restrictions saw fishing operations being curtailed extensively till the middle of August. The shortage of raw materials forced some processors in Kerala to shift their operations to Andhra Pradesh. The industry now wants the government coming to power after the election to help it tide over problems such as the high price of diesel, which has

made fishing expeditions too costly. This is a major problem facing the industry now, said Alex Ninan of Seafood Exporters’ Association, Kerala. He said that the cost of diesel affected fishing activities and considerably reduced the availability of raw materials. He said that the government should look into the possibility of exploiting the thousands of hectares of water space available for aquaculture in the State. A rough estimate is that around 60,000 hectares are available and if the area can be utilised it will give a big boost to raw material availability. If areas that have been lying idle for 10 years or more can be pressed into aquaculture, it will make a big difference, he said.

All the permanent employees and Management Trainees will be given an opportunity to avail the benefit of a Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) as per norms laid down by the Department of Public Enterprises. The approval will benefit the Government exchequer in reducing

recurring expenditure on salary/wages of sick CPSE which is not in operation and earning no income. The Corporation has been continuously incurring losses since financial year 2015-16 and not earning sufficient income to meet its running expenses. There is little scope for its revival, necessitating closure of the Company.

Milaha’s Annual General Assembly Meeting approved Distribution of 30% cash dividend DOHA: Milaha held its Annual General Assembly Meeting recently at Milaha headquarters, during which Shareholders ratified all items on its agenda and approved the Company's financial statements for the year ended December 31, 2020. During the General Assembly Meeting, the Shareholders approved the recommendation of the Board of Directors to distribute a cash dividend of 30% of the nominal value of the share, equivalent to QAR 0.3 per share. The General Assembly also approved the appointment of “Price Waterhouse Coopers” as External Auditors for the year 2021. Addressing the meeting that was held virtually, H.E Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad bin Jassim Jaber Al-Thani, Chairman of Milaha’s Board of Directors, presented an overview of the Company’s activities and financial results, as Milaha reported a net profit of QAR 59 million in 2020. In his speech, H.E the Chairman of the Board of Directors highlighted the unprecedented challenges that Milaha has navigated due to the COVID-19 repercussions and its impact on the global markets. Despite these disruptions, the Company showed resilience to adapt to critical market conditions. Dividend distribution will commence on Wednesday, March 17, 2021, through all Qatar National Bank (QNB) branches.

QNB will provide full support services to ensure Shareholders can efficiently collect and manage their earned dividends. Port of Antwerp and PSA Antwerp upgrade Europa Terminal as part of sustainable growth ANTWERP: To enable Europa Terminal to handle the largest container vessels, Port of Antwerp is planning to deepen the quay wall of this terminal in dialogue with PSA Antwerp, the operator of the terminal. To this end, the current quay wall will be completely demolished and replaced by a new one. In order to limit the operational impact, the works will be carried out in three phases. With this deepening project, Port of Antwerp and PSA Antwerp confirm their ambition to make the best and most sustainable use of the existing space at the port. 16-meter draught The Europa Terminal was put into operation in 1990 as the first tidal container terminal at the port of Antwerp. The current maximum draught for vessels that can moor at the quay wall is 13.5 metres. In order to also accommodate container shipping with larger dimensions, the depth of the terminal will be brought in line with the maximum draught of approximately 16 metres at inlet. Works in three phases Extensive maritime works will be necessary to achieve this deepening. The current quay wall, with a length of almost 1200 metres, needs to be completely demolished. PSA Antwerp is responsible for the renovation of the layout of the adjacent front quay, including new flooring and the installation of large container cranes. The quay wall will be equipped with all noregret infrastructure measures to enable implementation of shore power. An underwater dam will protect the nearby Galgenschoor nature reserve. In order to limit the operational impact, the works will be carried out in three phases.This allows a large part of the

terminal to remain in operations at all times, while another part of the capacity is diverted to PSA’s Noordzee Terminal. The works are expected to start at the end of 2021. Sustainable growth As the engine of the Belgian economy, the port of Antwerp is evolving along with social and global developments. To continue playing at the top level of world ports, the port must be able to offer extra container capacity to its customers. To this end, the port is permanently working on both expansion, such as with the ECA project, and the optimisation of the existing capacity. The renovation of Europa Terminal is an important step in the further development of a sustainable port. Jacques Vander meiren, CEO Port of Antwerp: “Containers are the most important segment at our port and a growth segment in the world, our yearly figures in 2020 prove this once again. And the trend towards more containers for transporting goods will only continue. This deepening is in line with our ambition to continue to grow as a port in a sustainable way and will contribute towards maintaining our position as a world port.” Jan Van Mossevelde, MD PSA Antwerp: “Thanks to this deepening, the Europa Terminal will join the league of megavessel ready container terminals. This major investment meets the needs of the major shipping alliances. When the works are completed, we'll be able to handle 2 megamax ships simultaneously at a brand new and innovative terminal.” Annick De Ridder, Port Alderman: “For our worldwide economic position and the prosperity of current and future generations, it's essential that we can continue to receive the largest container ships. With this investment, we are building the port of the future. Only in this way world players will continue to choose our port as the gateway to Europe and can we continue to position ourselves as a container port.”

NYK recognized as a Top Company in the Port of Long Beach's Green Flag Program TOKYO: NYK has been recognized as one of the top shipping lines in the Green Flag vessel speed reduction program that the Port of Long Beach has been conducting to improve air quality. It was the 12th consecutive recognition for NYK since 2009. The Green Flag program aims to restrain exhaust emissions from vessels by having them voluntarily operate under 12 knots within 40 miles of port. In 2020, NYK-operated vessels that called at Long Beach conducted a slow steaming operation in the target area and

NYK was praised for its contribution to the exhaust gas cut. On February 3, 2021, NYK announced the NYK Group ESG Story, which aims to further integrate ESG into the company’s management strategy and promotes activities that contribute to the achievement of the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) through business activities. To strongly promote ESG management, the NYK Group will encourage new value creation as a sustainable solution provider by contributing to the preservation of the global environment.
