This standalone MSC’s service will now include port call at Karachi, Pakistan, providing a direct service between Asia, Pakistan and US West Coast, opening new business opportunities but also improving interconnectivity and transit times between Southeast Asia, China, IPAK and the U.S. West Coast. In this role, Sandeep will be responsible for formulating strategic planning, driving operational efficiency through new-age technology adoption, leading crossfunctional operations, managing key supply chain stakeholders, and building stronger customer engagement by offering innovative and efficient logistics solutions. Sandeep will also drive a culture of innovation by identifying opportunities for technological a dva nc e m e nt s, pr o c e ss im pr o ve m e nt s, a nd sustainable practices. He will report to Pirojshaw (Phil) Sarkari, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Gati Express and Supply Chain Pvt. Ltd. (GESCPL). The company ’s express business is housed under GESCPL. Sandeep brings in more than two decades of diversified leadership experience in industries such as retail, E-commerce, logistics and supply chain management. Before joining Allcargo Gati, he has worked with Tata Cliq as Chief Supply Chain officer. These customers include bulk transportation and oil transportation customers with large volumes, as well as those requiring diverse transportation services, and small, medium, and micro customers from various industries. COSCO SHIPPING connects upstream and downstream partners through the Global Shipping Business Network (GSBN) platform, establishing an efficient and trustworthy digital ecosystem. The company works closely with ecological partners, integrates industry boundaries using data, and builds a new digital trade ecology based on mutual trust, making trade easier through digital empowerment. DT Gold Award for GSBN at 2nd Global Digital Trade Expo Additionally, at the recently concluded 2nd Global Digital Trade Expo, GSBN won the Digital Trade Gold Award (DT Award) for its business innovation of blockchain-based electronic bill of lading. At the 1st China International Import Expo (CIIE) in 2018, COSCO SHIPPING Lines was one of the initiators and led the establishment of GSBN, aiming to combat industry fragmentation and create value for all participants through extensive connections. As of October 2023, nearly 30 companies, including airlines, ports, third-party issuers, finance, and

insurance, have officially joined GSBN. Based on GSBN, COSCO SHIPPING has launched a blockchain-based paperless cargo release product, deployed in major domestic hub ports, and promoted to a number of overseas countries, significantly reducing import cargo release time from 1-2 days to less than 4 hours.

Adani Port operations to be carbon-neutral by 2025: Gautam Adani AHMEDABAD: Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani has announced that all its port operations will be carbon neutral by 2025. The target for net-zero port operations is 2040, the group chairman said in a post on his X timeline. “By 2025, we will set a national benchmark being the only carbon-neutral port operations and be Net Zero for APSEZ by 2040. Our climate-friendly transformation includes electrifying all cranes, switching all dieselbased Internal Transfer Vehicles to battery-based ITVs, and installing an additional 1000 MW of captive renewable capacity,” the X post read. Gautam Adani also said his conglomerate is pledging mangrove plantations in about 5,000 hectares by the financial year 2024-25. “Our dedication to protecting the environment is also reflected in our expanding mangrove plantations, aiming for a remarkable 5000 hectares by FY 25. This is yet another step towards a greener future and further testament of our commitment to climate stewardship ,” he wrote on X. Mangroves are critical to the coastal ecosystem as they provide a natural shield against soil erosion and support various flora and fauna. Earlier, in another X post, Gautam Adani said his conglomerate is setting up the world’s largest green energy park in the Rann of Kutch desert area in Gujarat, covering a vast 726 sq km land mass.

Gautam Adani said it will generate 30 GW to power over 20 million homes. “Proud to play a crucial role in India’s impressive strides in renewable energy as we build Mr. Gautam Adani the world’s largest green energy park. This monumental project, covering 726 sq km in the challenging Rann desert, is visible even from space. We will generate 30 GW to power over 20 million homes,” said the Gautam Adani post. “Also, just 150 km away, in our karmabhoomi Mundra, we are creating one of the globe’s most extensive and integrated renewable energy manufacturing ecosystems for solar and wind. This marks a significant milestone in India’s journey towards sustainable energy, underlining our commitment to the Solar Alliance and the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.” The Group Chairman, along with the X post, shared a few pictures where the ongoing large-scale project could be seen taking shape. This Adani Group project is expected to add t o I n d i a ’ s g r e e n e n e r g y c a p a c i t y, b e s i d e s helping in reaching its climate action pledges it made at COP.

Sub. : Amendment in Export Policy of Onions. S.O. (E) In exercise of powers conferred by Section 3 read with section 5 of the Foreign Trade (Development & Regulation) Act, 1992 (No. 22 of 1992), as amended, read with Para 1.02 and 2.01 of the Foreign Trade Policy, 2023, the Central Government hereby amends the Expor t Policy of Onions in Chapter 07 of Schedule 2 of the ITC (HS) Expor t Policy, as under: Tarif f item Unit Item Expor t HS Code Description Policy 0703 10 19 KG Onions Free

Policy condition Subject to a Minimum Expor t Price (MEP) of US $ 800 F.O.B. per Metric Ton (MT), till 31 December. 2023.

2. The Notification will come into ef fect from 08.12.2023. The provisions as under Para 1.05 of the Foreign Trade Policy, 2023 regarding transitional arrangement shall not be applicable under this Notification. Fur ther, consignments of onions will be allowed to be expor ted on fulfillment of any one of the following three conditions: i. where loading of onions on the ship has commenced before this Notification; ii. where the Shipping Bill is filed and vessels have already ber thed or arrived and anchored in Indian por ts for loading of onion and their rotation number has been allocated before this Notification; The approval of loading in such vessels will be issued only after confirmation by the concerned Por t Authorities regarding anchoring/ ber thing of the ship for loading of onions prior to the Notification and iii. where consignments of onions has been handed over to the Customs before this Notification and is registered in their system / where consignments of onions has entered the Customs Station for expor tation before this Notification and is registered in the electronic systems of the concerned Custodian of the Customs Station with verifiable evidence of date and time stamping of these commodities having entered the Customs Station prior to issuance of this Notification. The period of Expor t shall be upto 5th Januar y, 2024. 3. Expor t of onions will also be allowed on the basis of permission granted by the Government of India to other countries based on the request of their Government. 4. Ef fect of this Notification: Expor t policy of onions under HS Code 0703 10 19 is amended from “Free” to “Prohibited, till 31.03.2024”. m.v. “JIU XU 56” The captioned vessel has arrived at MUMBAI Por t on 10.12.2023 with impor t cargo from (CHINA) Consignee expecting impor t car goes on the captioned vessel are requested to present the ORIGINAL BILLS OF LADING duly discharged and obtain deliver y orders. In the event of Mumbai Por t Trust directing the shifting of the car go from quay to a storage area within the docks, the same will be under taken by the vessel agents at the consignees risks and costs. "Stamp duty" is payable as per the directive of the Superintendent of stamps. Consignees will please note that the carrier and/or their agents are not bound to send individual notification regarding the arrival of the vessel or their cargo. Adani Ports to exceed FY24 guidance of 390 MMT AHMEDABAD: Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ), India’s largest port developer and operator, will exceed its guidance of 370-390 million metric tonne (MMT) for FY24 and is on track to cross 500 MMT by FY25. The Adani Group company recorded a 42% rise in cargo volumes at 36 MMT in November, with growth coming from all three cargo categories. Its dry bulk cargo grew 60% year-on-year(y-o-y), containers by 26% and liquids and gas by over 23%. Between April and November this year, APSEZ handled around 275 MMT of cargo, a 21% y-o-y rise. This is nearly 70% of the full-year guidance of 370-390 M M T, a n d t h e c o m p a n y e x p e c t s t o m e e t , if not exceed, the target set for the entire year,” a source close to the development said. In a report, Motilal Oswal Research said that APSEZ is on track to surpass the FY24 volume guidance. “With higher-than-expected cargo growth in the first eight months of FY24, we have increased our volume estimates by 2% to 410 MMT for FY24. We now expect APSEZ to register 16% volume growth over FY23-25,” it said, adding revenue would grow by 23%, EBITDA by 21% and net profit by 17%. In its Q2 earnings call last month, APSEZ CEO Mr. Karan Adani assured analysts that the company was on track to achieve the guidance for FY25, while he declined to comment on meeting FY24 guidance.

For APSEZ, the growth would come from Adani International Container Terminal Private Ltd (AICTPL), a terminal at APSEZ’s Mundra Port, and Dhamra and Ennore ports. AICTPL handled 300,431 twenty-foot equivalent units Mr. Karan Adani, CEO, APSEZ (TEUs) across 97 vessels in November, much more than the 298,634 TEUs it handled in March 2021, which was the company’s highest ever. Dhamra and Ennore ports also recorded their highestever monthly volumes of 3.96 MMT and 65,658 TEUs, respectively, in November. APSEZ’s logistics volumes also witness record growth with year-to-date (YTD) rail volumes of about 379,000 TEUs (a 23% y-o-y rise) and General Purpose Wagon Investment Scheme (GPWIS) volumes of 12.3 MMT (44% yo-y increase). The highest-ever monthly GPWIS volumes were recorded in November 2023 at 1.72 MMT. According to a report by Kotak Institutional Equities, APSEZ’s growth reflects a “sharp” focus on operational efficiencies, which helped it gain business by offering a better service level for the same price. The sensitivity to select cargo classes (thermal coal, iron ore) is helping the company, as it starts to see normalised volume levels in select ports (Mundra, Gangavaram, Krishnapatnam).

This achievement comes at a critical juncture as the world focuses on COP28, being held this month in Dubai. Due to the global nature of international shipping having diversity of stakeholders of all nationalities involved, emission from the maritime transport sector is addressed by the IMO through the

International Convention for Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL). India is a signatory to this Convention. The Government of India has implemented all MARPOL regulations pertaining to carbon emissions on Indian Ships. At present, the regulations mainly pertain to reduction of carbon emission through enhanced energy efficiency and achieving a progressively enhanced (yearly) carbon intensity reduction. A National Centre of Excellence f o r G r e e n Po r t s a n d S h i p p i n g (NCoEGPS) has been set up which is India’s first such Center of Excellence. In this regard, the Memorandum of Agreement was signed on November 18, 2022 between Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Water ways (MoPSW) along with Deendayal Port Authority, Kandla; Paradip Port Authority, Paradip; V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority, Thoothukudi; Cochin Shipyard Limited, Kochi and The Energy & Resources Institute (TERI). NCoEGPS provides policy

and regulatory support for developing regulatory framework and alternate technology adoption road map for Green Shipping to foster carbon neutrality and circular economy in the shipping sector in India. The NCoEGPS is housed at and led by TERI as a knowledge and implementation partner. Some other steps undertaken as proactive measure to help those ships which are unable to meet even the present carbon intensity reductions are:i. The Government of India has permitted use of sustainable bio fuels and its blends as fuels by Indian ships as a cost effective option. ii. A digital module has been developed and is in operation to capture fuel consumption from each ship operations for each voyage that is at anchorage, port stay, sailing period etc., in order to ensure efficient operations. Cabinet approves Additional allocation of Rs 2500 crore for continuation of Interest Equalisation Scheme on Pre and Post Shipment Rupee Export Credit till 30th June 2024 NEW DELHI: The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has approved an additional allocation of Rs 2500 Cr for continuation of Interest Equalisation Scheme till 30th June 2024. This would help exporters from identified sectors and all MSME manufacturer exporters to avail pre and post shipment Rupee export credit at competitive rates. Details: Benefit shall be continued till 30.06.2024 to manufacturer and merchant exporters of the identified 410 tariff lines and to all manufacturer exporters from MSME sectors at rates as specified below: Implementation strategy and targets: The scheme shall be implemented by RBI through various Public and non-Public Sector banks who provide pre and post shipment credit to the exporters. The Scheme is jointly monitored by DGFT and RBI through a consultative mechanism.

Make-in-India programme drives growth in manufacturing-based exports : Ashwini Vaishnaw NEW DELHI: Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw on Thursday called Make-in-India a well thought initiative of PM Modi. Declaring it a success, he said that manufacturing boost has led to an increase in country’s export. More than half a percentage of India’s total export in FY23 was merchandise exports, followed by services exports. However, it used to be mostly services 10-15 years ago, said Ashwini Vaishnaw while highlighting the success of Make in India. He also called the boost to export due to manufacturing a major achievement for the country. In the last financial year, a total of 762 billion dollars of exports was recorded. Out of this, 453 billion dollars was merchandise exports, services exports were 309 billion dollars. The picture was not the same 10-15 years ago when the export was led by services export mostly, Union Minister told. Explaining the importance of the manufacturing sector in employment generation, Vaishnaw said, “When PM Modi launched Make in India, there was a deep thinking behind it. If things are manufactured in India, our people get jobs and our small and micro industries generate employment. If exports to other countries increase, money

comes to the country and a change comes to the income and economy of the country in a way. With this thinking, Make in India was launched. Its success is clear.” “This is a big turning point. It is a reflection of change in the country’s economy. Manufacturing-based exports impact a common man’s life. If we study the economy of countries like Japan and South Korea, we will see that they all, during their economic jour ney, focussed on manufacturing while moving from low-income to middleincome and then high-income,” Vaishnaw said. He added, “If we study the growth period around the 1800 or early 1900 period of countries such as the US, Germany, France, UK etc, we find that they also focussed on manufacturing for moving from low income to middle and high income. “Countries that have passed through the growth phase, all gave importance to manufacturing. This is what Modi ji did as the first big economic programme, economic philosophy and economics thought that he launched, Make It India, which has a big place in that,” Vaishnaw said. It is the reflection of a series of programmes and simplifications that were introduced after the success of Make in India, Design in India, Innovate in India among others.

India extends curbs on onion exports till March 31, 2024 NEW DELHI: India has extended restrictions on the outbound shipments of onions until the end of this fiscal year or March 31, 2024, as the government seeks to ensure ample supply in the country and keep a lid on prices of this key political crop that in the past was associated with toppling Governments. The Government had introduced a minimum export price (MEP) of $800 per tonne on onion exports from October 28 until December 31 this year. The Government had imposed an export duty of 40% on

onions in August. However, that did not help in curtailing their exports substantially. Rampant under-invoicing of exports undermined the duty, prompting the Government to scrap it and impose a minimum export price of $800 per metric tonne on onions. This year, key onion exporters such as Egypt and Turkey had banned onion exports. Onion production in Pakistan is lower, while Holland has also resorted to imports.

Container freight rates fall to 2019 levels while costs remain high : BIMCO OSLO: Liner operators continue to struggle with a worsening supply/demand balance, affecting freight rates. On average, the fleet has grown 5% and 19% compared with 2022 and 2019 respectively. On the other hand, container volumes have fallen 2% compared to 2022 and are only 1% up compared to 2019. “So far this year, container volumes have fallen nearly 2% year-on-year while average freight rates have declined, reaching 2019 levels in September. Since then, they have continued to fall. However, the cost to charter a ship remains 25% higher than in 2019,” stated Mr. Niels Rasmussen, Chief Shipping Analyst at BIMCO. “Lower sailing speeds have reduced supply growth compared to 2022, but improved congestion has pulled in the

other direction. According to Container Trades Statistics’ Aggregated Price Indices, average freight rates so far this year have fallen 56% year-on-year as a result but remained 19% higher than in 2019. However, in September 2023, average freight rates were back at average 2019 levels and have likely fallen further since,” added Rasmussen. On the other hand, key cost items for the liner operators have not followed rates. So far this year, although the cost of very low-sulphur fuel oil has fallen 29% compared to 2022, it has been 5% above 2019 levels. For ships with a scrubber, heavy fuel oil prices have fallen 22% compared to 2022 but have been 22% higher than in 2019. “The average cost to charter a new ship has so far this year fallen 73% yearon-year but has on average remained

65% higher than in 2019, and in December is still 25% above the 2019 average. Liner operators’ actual time charter costs are even higher, as they are still paying for time charter contracts concluded in 2021 and 2022 at much higher rates,” said Rasmussen. On the other hand, the more profitable head-haul trades are performing better, with year-to-date volumes and current freight levels at 6% and 16% above 2019 levels. “As we have pointed out in our recent Container Shipping Overview & Outlook report, the fleet is expected to grow another 9% in 2024, adding further pressure to the market. Freight rate increases may therefore be hard to come by, but time charter rates are likely to continue to fall,” concluded Rasmussen.

Sugar exporters eligible for RoDTEP benefits: Gujarat High Court AHMEDABAD: The Gujarat High Court has rejected the revenue department’s contention that sugar exports under quota were under restricted category and not eligible for benefits under the Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products (RoDTEP) Scheme. The high court order comes as a relief to sugar exporters. Revenue authorities had denied benefits under the scheme to a number of exporters and issued notices for the recovery of about $3 billion that had earlier been claimed. The RoDTEP scheme is aimed at neutralising taxes and duties for exported goods. These benefits are not available to the export of items

placed in the restricted category. “The respondents are directed to grant the benefit of rebate under the RoDTEP scheme to the petitioners who have exported sugar with specific permission under the specific condition prescribed by the Directorate of Sugar,” a bench of Bhargav D Karia and Niral R Mehta ordered earlier this week. Last year, the Government had set the quota for sugar exports from June 1, 2022 at 6 million tonnes. Subsequently, revenue authorities began denying benefits of the RoDTEP scheme to the exporters and seeking recovery of the benefits taken. Exporters moved the court against this, arguing that sugar

exports were allowed with “conditions” in terms of quantity and those could not be treated as a “restricted” category. The Revenue Department argued that restricted categories were not eligible for export benefits as per rules. “The remission of duties under the new scheme happens in the most pragmatic manner and the Indian Government is already supporting the Indian exporters even at the international legal forums, hence, any executive action to deny the benefits to our exporters will have to cross the constitutional test,” said Abhishek Rastogi, founder of law firm Rastogi Chambers who had argued for the sugar exporters.

Uttar Pradesh Govt to spend Rs 40K crore on logistics, industrial parks LUCKNOW: In a push to the state’s industrial ecosystem, the Uttar Pradesh Government is looking to launch logistics, warehousing, and industrial parks projects worth Rs 40,000 crore in the coming weeks. While logistics and warehousing projects entail investments of Rs 25,000 crore, private industrial park projects are estimated at Rs 15,000 crore. These projects are expected to fuel the prospects of UP’s ambitious mission to become India’s first trillion-dollar economy. The infra projects are part of the bouquet of over Rs 1 trillion worth of different categories of projects to be launched by UP State Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDA) at

the upcoming groundbreaking ceremony in Lucknow. The Authority finalised projects worth Rs 1.03 trillion for the ceremony, said Mayur Maheshwari, chief executive officer, UPSIDA. He added that these include projects across logistics, warehousing, industrial parks, manufacturing, food processing, chemicals, automobiles, minerals, leather, etc.. The projects will be set up in Ghaziabad, Kanpur, Chandauli, Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida), Varanasi, Jhansi, Amethi and Bareilly districts. The ceremony is a follow-up to the UP Global Investors Summit (GIS) in February 2023, which helped the state

garner 19,000+ investment proposals of almost Rs 38 trillion. The State Government is also planning to launch projects of Rs 10 trillion at the ceremony, which is being planned at a grand scale to pitch UP as a preferred destination for domestic and global investors. The Yogi Adityanath Government will showcase ‘Brand UP’ at the World Economic Forum meeting in Davos in January next year. The UP delegation will be led by the state’s Finance Minister Suresh Khanna and Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi, UP’s industrial development minister. They will brief the global audience about the steps taken to make UP a trilliondollar economy by 2027.

India's forex reserves at $604 bn for the week ending Dec 1 MUMBAI: India's foreign exchange reserves stood at $604 billion for the week ending December 1, said Reser ve Bank of India's Governor Shaktikanta Das during the bi-monthly MPC meet. Forex reserves surpassed the $600 billion mark after a gap of about four months

"We remain confident of meeting our external financing requirements comfortably," said Das. Earlier, the foreign exchange reserves surged by $2.54 billion to $597.94 billion for the week ending November 24. It can be noted that in

October 2021, the country's forex kitty had reached an all-time high of USD 645 billion. The reser ves have been declining as the central bank deploys the kitty to defend the r upee amid pressures caused majorly by global developments.

CONCOR signs MoU with NVVN for development of solar RE projects NEW DELHI: Railways PSU CONCOR and NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam (NVVN), a wholly- owned subsidiary of NTPC Limited, have signed an MoU to collaborate on the development of PV solar renewable energy projects within CONCOR terminals. The MoU has been signed by CONCOR’s Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Sanjay Swarup and NVVN’s CEO Renu Narang in presence senior officials from CONCOR and NVVN. This collaboration emphases CONCOR’s strong commitment to clean and green energy practices. According to CONCOR, this strategic partnership is poised to make a significant impact on reducing carbon footprints within the logistics and transportation sector. By integrating PV solar renewable energy projects into CONCOR terminals, the company aims to embrace ecofriendly practices, contributing to a more sustainable and

environmentally conscious future. “This partnership marks a significant step towards reducing our carbon footprint and embracing eco-friendly practices in the logistics and transportation sector,” CONCOR wrote on X.

CEVA Logistics becomes partners in the European Clean Transport Network (ECTN) Alliance • The proof-of-concept project covers 900 kilometers between Avignon and Lille in France, with four highway segments between ﬁve relay sta ons. • Over a two-year period, it will test in real-life condi ons low-carbon, long-distance freight transport on France’s highways. • Launched by the ECTN Alliance, the large-scale test involves all road transport stakeholders (trucking companies, truck drivers, customers, energy suppliers, motorway operators, truck manufacturers, public authori es, etc.) in an open, coopera ve approach. • The ECTN Alliance is also carrying out a feasibility study to assess the concept's deployment across all of Europe. PARIS: On Monday, Nov. 20, CEVA Logistics, ENGIE, and SANEF—partners in the E u r o p e a n C l e a n Tr a n s p o r t N e t w o r k ( E C T N ) Alliance—launched the proof of concept of the low-carbon, longdistance road transport network. First announced in March, the Network’s pilot program covers a distance of more than 900 kilometers in France between Avignon and Lille, aiming to demonstrate the ECTN concept to facilitate the decarbonization of long-distance road freight transport. The concept would not require specific technological innovations, but rather relies on a network of terminals for low-carbon truck refueling and trailer exchange. By providing transporters with a solution based on alternative energies to diesel for long-distance freight transport, the concept addresses shipping customers’ demands for decarbonizing their cargo flows, while also aligning with the growing need for energy transition. “Relay Station” Network with 16 Trucks The Alliance’s concept draws inspiration from the traditional “relay” concept by establishing relay stations equipped with electric charging stations and bioCNG refueling pumps for trucks along the existing highway network. At these relay stations, trailers are disconnected and reconnected to a new tractor unit and driver for the next segment for transport. The test route between Avignon and Lille is divided into four segments between: Avignon (Vaucluse) Lyon (Rhône) - Dijon (Côte-d’Or) - Sommesous (Marne) Lille (Nord). Each truck completes two round trips

per day between two of these relay stations. This daily round-trip principle on a defined road segment contributes to improving working conditions for truck drivers and making the profession more attractive by reducing the distance travelled between home and work. Each member of the ECTN Alliance is contributing its expertise to the implementation of the pilot: • C E VA e s t a b l i s h e d relay stations at its Avignon, Lyon, Dijon, and Lille branches and has set up a control tower in Valenciennes to supervise cargo flows and to monitor transit times and energy consumption. • ENGIE is installing and operating electric charging stations and biogas distribution pumps. • SANEF is hosting a relay station at its Sommesous service area. Luc Nadal, Managing Director of CEVA Logistics Europe, said, “The ECTN project has been more than two years in the making. By combining the skills and expertise of three major French companies, with the support of our partners and customers, we have brought together all the conditions needed to provide a concrete response to the critical challenge of decarbonizing road freight transport in Europe. When we see what is happening with the electric car, we can make that possible for heavy goods vehicles, with the support of European public authorities. This experiment is a first step towards a large-scale transformation of our i n d u s t r y, w i t h c o n s i d e r a b l e b e n e f i t s f o r t h e environment.”

Maersk to deploy rst large methanol-enabled vessel on Asia – Europe trade lane C O P E N H A G E N : A . P. M o l l e r – M a e r s k (Maersk) is about to launch the first of its 18 large methanol-enabled vessels currently on order. On 9 February 2024, it will enter service on the AE7 String connecting Asia and Europe, which includes port calls in Shanghai, Tanjung Pelepas, Colombo and Hamburg (see all port calls in the fact box below), with Ningbo, China, being its first destination. The container vessel built by Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) in South Korea has a nominal capacity of 16,000 containers (TEU) and is equipped with a dual-fuel engine enabling operations on methanol as well as biodiesel and conventional bunker fuel. Maersk has set a Net-Zero greenhouse gas emissions target for 2040 across the entire business and has also set tangible and ambitious near-term targets for 2030 to ensure significant progress. Maersk has secured sufficient green1 methanol to cover the vessel’s maiden voyage and continues to work diligently on 2024-25 sourcing solutions for its methanol-enabled vessel fleet. “Deploying the first of our large methanol-enabled vessels on one of the world’s largest trade lanes, Asia – Europe, is a landmark in our journey towards our Net-Zero target. With the vessel’s capacity of 16,000 containers, this will make a significant impact in our customers’ efforts to decarbonise their supply

chains, and we are looking forward to introducing more methanol-enabled vessels on this and other trades during 2024,” said, K arsten Kildahl, Chief Commercial Ofcer at Maersk. Ahead of its deployment, the vessel will be named at the shipyard in end January 2024. The following two sister vessels will be deployed in the first half of 2024 with naming events taking place in Yokohama, Japan, and Los Angeles, USA. Maersk expects to take delivery of four additional sister vessels in the second half of 2024. At the time of deployment of the first large vessel, it will be the only second container vessel in the world that can sail on green methanol, the first being the feeder vessel Laura Maersk which entered service in September this year. Overview of Maersk vessels on order • Maersk has 24 container vessels on order • All vessels currently on order will be equipped with dual-fuel engines and will be able to operate on green methanol • 12 of the vessels on order have a capacity of 16,000 TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit containers) • 6 of the vessels on order have a capacity of 17,000 TEU • 6 of the vessels on order have a capacity of 9,000 TEU • Since 2021, Maersk has had a policy of only ordering new vessels able to operate on green fuels.
