• Agriculture sector marks impressive growth, likely to have touched $50 Billion annual exports NEW DELHI: Merchandise exports from India have reached USD 417.8 billion in the current financial year. This figure excludes the figures from non-EDI Ports and adding that, it is likely to exceed $418 billion, an all-time high in India’s export history. India has achieved highest monthly value of merchandise export in March 2022 amounting USD 40.38 billion, an increase of 14.53% over USD 35.26 billion in March 2021 and an increase of 87.89% over USD 21.49 billion in March 2020. Cont’d. from Pg. 3 The major Indian ports under Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Government of India registered an impressive growth rate in traffic movement at 6.94% during FY2021-22 over the previous fiscal year (Y-o-Y). The five major ports of the country recorded their highest ever traffic during the year. The Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI), the statutory body in charge of the waterways in India under the Ministry, transported a total of 105 million tonnes of cargo through National Waterways, registering an impressive increase of 25.61% Y-o-Y basis. The average turnaround time for container vessels at major ports has improved from 43.44 hours in 2014 to 26.58 hours in 2021. Speaking on the occasion, the Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways,
SarbanandaSonowal, said, “Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister ShriNarendraModiji, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways is working diligently towards achieving major objectives of Maritime India Vision, 2030. During the last fiscal, the ministry put forth unwavering effort with an aim towards the vision of transformation through transportation. This has not only helped us inch closer towards achievement of these objectives within the specified time but also improving the performance of our major verticals. This trickles down towards ease of doing business and overall growth in trade and economic growth of the country.” Key Highlights of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways during FY 2021-22: Major Ports • Traffic handled during FY 2021-
22 at Major Ports witnesses a rise of 6.94% over last year. • Five Major Ports record their highest ever traffic during FY 2021-22. oKamarajar Port attained an increase of 49.63% traffic over the previous year o The JNPT achieved highest ever traffic during the same period with an impressive growth of 17.27% over the previous year oDeendayal Port also clocked an impressive growth rate of 8.11% during FY2021-22 which is its highest ever traffic o Mumbai Port marked an increase in traffic of 17.27% and 11.46%, respectively. o Cochin Port grew 9.68% on Y-o-Y basis which is its highest ever traffic achieved. • Average turnaround time for container vessels at Major Ports has improved from 43.44 hours in 2014 to 26.58 hours in 2021.

Addressing a press conference here, Minister of Commerce and Industry, C o n s u m e r A f f a i r s , Fo o d a n d P u b l i c Distribution and Textiles, ShriPiyushGoyal said that India had truly gone from ‘local to global’ in response to the Prime Minister ShriNarendraModi’s call. The Minister said that every Indian should be proud of the pace at which India is achieving ‘atmanirbharta’ while ensuring that every Indian benefits from this progress. He added that India has been able to achieve this spectacular target under the leadership of the Prime Minister. Expressing confidence that India's economy is poised to break a number of records, ShriGoyal said that PM Modi had set lofty goals for India and that our nation is extremely capable of achieving such immense goals. To make Possible the Impossible, tirelessly strive for it and collectively work towards it, he added. ShriGoyal said the ‘never say die’ spirit of our exporters, the relentless effort by EPCs and Industr y Association, the coordination among different GOI Departments and state governments reflecting the ‘ whole of gover nment approach’ has resulted in this stupendous achievement. Every sector of the economy, every farmer, every entrepreneur, every MSME and state governments worked together to achieve this lucrative goal, he said. India’s diversified export portfolio in 2021-22 show India’s manufacturing abilities as well as growth in hi-tech goods, electronics and agricultural products. Exports of major commodity that recorded a positive growth during April 2021-March 2022 over April-March 2020-21 are Petroleum Products (152.1%), Cotton Yarn / Fabrics / Madeups, Handloom Products Etc. (55.1%), Other Cereals (52.2%), Gems and Jewellery (49.6%), Man-
Made Yarn/Fabs/Madeups Etc.( 46.9%), Engineering Goods (45.5%), Coffee (49%), Electronic Goods (40.5%), Jute Mfg. Including Floor Covering (36.2%), Leather and Leather Manufactures (32.2%), Organic & Inorganic Chemical (32.0%), Plastic and Linoleum (31.1%), Marine Products (30.0%), Rmg Of All Textiles (29.9%), Handicrafts Excl. Hand Made Carpet (22.0%) and Cereal Preparations and Miscellaneous Processed Item (21.9%) recorded a positive growth of, and 21.9% respectively over April 2020March 2021. Apart from diversified range of merchandise goods exported during 2021-22, India’s merchandise exports have also seen a significant increase to different countries, especially, developed countries. Exports to USA, UAE, Bangladesh, Netherlands, Singapore, Hong Kong, UK, Belgium and Germany grew by 46.4%, 66.9%, 64.5%, 90.5%, 26.8%, 7.8%, 28%, 90.4% and 21.1% respectively over April 2020- March 2021. Shri Goyal said, notwithstanding the challenges posed by successive waves of Covid (2nd and 3rd wave), India’s merchandise trade performance has shown impressive growth and exports remained above USD 30 billion for twelve consecutive months during April 2021 to March 2022. The Prime Minister called for ‘local to global’ and today India's products are in great demand all over the world. This is a testament to the strength of leadership. PM now focuses extensively on 'whole of nation approach', he said. One of the impressive growth has been seen in Agriculture sector and especially during the pandemic India emerged as a major global supplier of food / essential agriculture products. Agriculture exports buoyancy is driven by commodities such as rice (both basmati and non-basmati), marine products, wheat, spices and sugar, among others, recording the highest ever agricultural products export in 2021-22. Higher agricultural exports signify the ability of Indian farmers to meet the requirement of 1.35 billion population and yet produce a surplus to export to rest of the world. Integration into global market will allow our farmers to be more competitive, quality conscious and at the same time
realize better prices for their produce. When we set a target of $50 billion exports of Agriculture produce, then few imagined this would be possible. But today I want to congratulate our farmers who have grown more produce despite the Covid-19. The exports growth has helped farmers and labour intensive sectors and MSMEs. The government places special emphasis on these sectors, ShriGoyal said. The Minister also assured that India will step up wheat supplies to countries hit by the Ukraine War. “We will continue to export wheat in a big way to meet needs in countries who are not getting supplies from conflict areas. We are likely to exceed our wheat exports over 10 million tonnes in 2022-23. Our farmers are focused on increasing production,” he said. The government has been working around the clock to provide a conducive environment and infrastructure for our industry and exporters to enhance their export performance. Policies and schemes aligned with the goal are being introduced and implemented for their benefit. The smooth roll out of RoDTEP and ROSCTL even in the midst of the pandemic reflects the strong resolve of the government to walk the talk. The Interest Equalisation Scheme has been extended to exporters and is likely to benefit a large number of MSME exporters. Shri Goyal said the Government is now working on rolling out the District Export Hub Initiative to strengthen the export infrastructure, logistics at district level to facilitate exports. “ We h a v e s u c c e e d e d i n c r e a t ing awareness about exports in every district through ODOP and PLIs,” he said. Rigorous efforts for domestic capacity enhancement for deepening integration in the Global Value Chains are being made by working in close partnership with the industry to identify areas where India’s c o m p e t i t i v e a d v a n t a g e s l a y. T h e Government is working on strengthening our capabilities and create for the world on the lines of Make in India. Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes for 13 key sectors of manufacturing starting from FY 2021-22 have been announced.

Following successful 36 years with A.P. Moller Maersk, Morten Engelstoft has decided to retire from the company during summer 2022 and will consequently step down from his role as Chief Executive officer at APM Terminals. Succeeding him effective July 1st will be Keith Svendsen, who has been the company’s Chief Operations Officer since 2017. “I would like to thank Morten for his extraordinary achievements, dedication and leadership during all these years. He has played an instrumental role in the overall transformation of Maersk, the strengthening of the collaboration between Ocean and Terminals, and not least ensuring the very successful turnaround of our Terminals business leading up to the record-breaking results in 2021. I have truly appreciated having Morten in our Executive Board and I’ve enjoyed our partnership and close collaboration”, shares Soren Skou, CEO of A.P. Moller – Maersk. Morten Engelstoft joined Maersk in 1986 and he has served in many different roles in seven countries, including the position of Maersk Line’s COO, which he held for seven years. In 2016, he became the CEO of APM Terminals, where he has led the company through a very successful turnaround, shaping it into a business with very positive growth trajectory which delivers attractive, stable, and high returns. “As I look forward to beginning a new chapter in my life,
seeking a new balance and spending more time with my family, I am immensely proud to have been part of shaping Maersk during decades. We have built a strong foundation for APM Terminals, and the business is today well positioned in the industry and for the next chapter of our strategy. That’s why timing is good for this change and in Keith we have a strong successor ready”, says Morten Engelstoft. With APM Terminals as COO since 2017, Keith Svendsen has been a key driver of the company’s strategic direction. Prior to joining Terminals, he held several senior positions within Maersk Line, most recently as Vice President and Head of Operational Execution. “Together with the global leadership team and our engaged people across the globe, I look very much forward to keeping APM Terminals on the road to success and propelling us forward to become The World’s Best Terminal Company. Continuity is critical to maintain our transformation momentum and further deploy our ‘Safer, Better, Bigger’ strategy. My main focuses are on executing our strategy and constantly seeking new ways to serve our customers better, mature LEAN and find ways we can grow the company”, comments Keith Svendsen. With Morten Engelstoft’s retirement, APM Terminals will be represented at A.P. Moller – Maersk Executive Board level by HenrietteHallbergThygesen, who is at the same time appointed new Chairperson of APM Terminals, taking over that role from SorenSkou. Also, as of July 1, HenrietteHallbergThygesen will take over from Morten Engelstoft as Executive Sponsor of Safety within A.P. Moller – Maersk.
MSC Group reaches agreement with Bolloré Group for the acquisition of Bolloré Africa Logistics GENEVA: MSC Group confirms that it has entered into a share purchase agreement with Bolloré SE relating to the acquisition of 100% of Bolloré Africa Logistics (including all of Bolloré Group’s shipping, logistics and terminals operations in Africa, as well as its terminal operations in India, Haiti and in Timor-Leste) for a purchase price based on an enterprise value, net of minority interests, of 5.7 billion euros. The signing of this agreement follows a thorough and
positive consultation process with representatives of employees of the Bolloré Group. Completion remains subject to the receipt of approvals, including from the relevant competition authorities. The acquisition of Bolloré Africa Logistics reaffirms MSC Group’s longstanding commitment to invest in Africa and to strengthen supply chains across the continent, as well as connecting it to the rest of the world.

Sarbananda Sonowal highlights impact of Russia-Ukraine Conict on Shipping Sector NEW DELHI: The Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal recently informed the Parliament that due to conflict between Russia and Ukraine the Shipping companies are facing the following issues:i. Shipping activities in northern black sea is closed ii. Insurance cover has been withdrawn by the P&I. iii. Containers bound for Ukraine
and Russia are lying at different transhipment ports. iv. Payment affected due to blockage of SWIFT in Russia. v. Congestion at neighbouring ports and transhipment ports. vi. Trade to Russia and CIS countries has been affected and Shipping lines are not accepting goods for Russian ports. The following steps have been taken to protect the Indian shipping
companies from the adverse impact of this crisis:i. Meetings are taken at regular intervals with all stakeholders to review the situation. ii. Shipping lines have been requested to explore alternative routes for Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) / Russian cargo. iii. Export-Import Traders were informed that ONE Shipping is carrying containers to Vladivostok.
Paradip Port handles 116 MMT Cargo in FY 2022 PA R A D I P : T h e Pa r a d i p Po r t Authority set a new record by handling 116.13 million tonnes of cargo in the fiscal year 2021-22, surpassing the previous high of 114.55 million tonnes set in the fiscal year 2020-21. Officials claimed that despite a 30% decline in iron ore traffic due to weak demand and worldwide market
circumstances, they were able to increase cargo handling by focusing on other commodities. By implementing new operational norms, the port handled 38% more thermal coal through coastal cargo movement in 2021-22. The port’s operating surplus moved up by ten percent, while its operating margin
reached to sixty percent. The Paradip Port Authority commissioned a new coal import ter minal, having 15 MMTPA capacity, at a cost of Rs.650 crore. This terminal is installed with world-class cargo handling systems and can improve the import of coal and other dry bulk cargo through Paradip.
Indian Railways break several records in freight loading during Financial Year-2021-22 Indian Railways breaches 1400 MT Freight Loading mark for 1st me in Financial Year-2021-22 NEW DELHI: Indian Railways has for the first time ever breached the 1400 MT Freight Loading mark in this Financial Year. The Originating Freight Loading of Indian Railways for the FY 2021-22 stood at 1418.1 MT (provisional) which is 15% more than the previous best set in FY 2020-21 at 1233.2 MT. The incremental loading of ~ 185 MT has been led primarily by Coal with 111 MT growth, followed by Cement at 17.2 MT and Balance other Goods at 15 MT. The incremental loading of 185 MT with 15% growth is the best ever growth in both absolute and percentage terms. The previous best incremental growth in percentage terms was achieved in the year 1981-82 with 12.9 % growth. The previous best incremental loading in absolute terms was 66.1 MT achieved more than a decade ago in the year 2005-06.
Following the Mantra, “Hungry For Cargo”, IR has made sustained efforts to improve the ease of doing business as well as improve the service delivery at competitive prices which has resulted in new traffic coming to railways from both conventional and non conventional commodity streams. The customer centric approach and work of Business Development Units backed up by agile policy making helped Railways towards this landmark achievement. Chabahar Port can improve India-Central Asia Relations : Ram Nath Kovind Ashgabat: President Ram NathKovind stated on Saturday that the Chabahar port in Iran, which India developed, could be leveraged to boost India-Central Asian economic links. President Ram NathKovind met with h i s Tu r k m e n i s t a n c o u n t e r p a r t GurbangulyBerdimuhamedov at
Oguzhar Palace in Ashgabat recently. He suggested that India’s Chabahar port in Iran may be used to boost trade between India and Central Asia. Four Memorandums of Understanding were signed by the two Heads of State.He went on to say that they emphasised the importance of the International North-
South Transport Corridor (INSTC) and the Ashgabat Agreement on International Transport and Transit Corridor. “I pointed out that the Chabahar port built by India in Iran could be used to improve trade between India and Central Asia,” stated the President.
VOC Port registers 7% increase in FY22 Cargo traffic TUTICORIN: The VO Chidambaranar port in Thoothukudi registered a 7.33 per cent growth in cargo handling for 2021-22 to 34.12 million tonnes (mt) against 31.79 mt in the previous year. Imports accounted for 24.19 mt; exports 9.45 mt and transhipment 0.48 mt. The port managed to surpass the 34 mt target set by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Water ways for the
financial year, says a press release. TK Ramachandran, Chairman, VO Chidambaranar Port Authority, said that the port surpasses pre-pandemic cargo volumes, driven by the economic recovery. The port handled 7.81 lakh twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) during 2021-22, a 2.49 per cent increase over the previous year’s container traffic of 7.62 lakh TEUs. The VOC Port Authority’s total income amounted to 636 crore in 2021-22 against ₹603 crore in the previous year with an operating surplus of ₹341 crore
(322 crores) and net surplus after tax at ₹130 crore (₹110 crore), the release said. Some of the major ongoing projects include modification and widening of harbour entrance and coal yard roads; mechanisation of North Cargo Berth III; conversion of 9th berth as a container terminal. The port also proposes developing Outer Harbour with two container terminals (continuous Quay length of 1,000 m each), with a draft of 16 m in the first phase through public, private partnership mode, the release said.

NarendraModi and the Prime Minister of Australia, Mr. Scott Morrison recently. Speaking after the signing, the Prime Minister, ShriNarendraModi said that signing of IndAus ECTA in such a short span of time reflects the depth of the mutual confidence between the two countries. ShriModi underlined the huge potential that exists in the two economies to fulfil the
needs of each other and this agreement will enable the two countries to fully leverage these opportunities. “This is a watershed moment for our bilateral relations”, he emphasized. The Prime Minister said “On the basis of this agreement, together, we will be able to increase the resilience of supply chains, and also contribute to the stability of the Indo-Pacific region.” Terming ‘people to people’ relations as the key pillar of the relationship between India and Australia, the Prime Minister said “This agreement will facilitate the exchange of students, professionals, and tourists between us, which will further strengthen these relations.” In his Opening remarks during the Joint Press Conference with Mr. Dan Tehan after the signing in ceremony, ShriGoyal said the Australia – India
ECTA tr uly symbolises our Ekta (Unity) & the spirit of cooperation. Terming it a historic day for India, as it is a 1st agreement with a Developed country after a Decade, ShriGoyal said our relationship rests on the pillars of trust & reliability, aptly reflected in our deepening geo-strategic engagement through the Quad & Supply Chain Resilience Initiative. NYK receives ClassNK’s Highest Innovation Certification Rating TOKYO: On March 29, NYK was recognized by ClassNK with its highest rating of Class S on its Innovation Endorsement (hereafter, “IE”) provider certification, which confirms a company’s innovative initiatives. NYK was highly evaluated for the NYK Remote Diagnostic Center (RDC), which is a facility in the Philippines for remote diagnosis and monitoring of the state of engine plants, in addition to the company’s organizational structure. NYK is the first company/organization to receive Class S IE provider certification since this system was introduced by ClassNK in 2020. In addition to operating procedures in accordance with ISO 56002, the monitoring system at the RDC and the high accuracy of remote diagnosis were highly evaluated. RDC operates advanced ship management methods such as an anomaly detection system that uses AI to constantly, remotely monitor and diagnose engine plants of about 200 ships equipped with SIMS. At the center, an expert marine engineer with specialized knowledge of the engine plant examines the AI detection results, and if it is determined that repairs, inspections, etc. are necessary, various data and the cause of the abnormality are estimated and promptly disseminate to the ship and the ship-management company to encourage prompt response on the ship.
Under the Expert-in-the-Loop concept, which provides more accurate information to the site, humans (experts) make assessments that cannot be made solely based on AI detection results for the prevention of serious accidents on ships. NYK will promote further research and development and dissemination activities with the goal of standardizing advanced ship management methods within the industry. In the future, NYK aims to develop the center into a "control center responsible for remote monitoring and control of fully autonomous ships."

"India-UAE Comprehensive Economic Cooperation and Partnership Agreement (CEPA) shall result in accelerated trade and investment and shall open a new world of opportunities. India is UAE's largest Non-Oil Trade partner and the future is bright for India-UAE collaborations in Global supply chain logistics,” he stated. Thanking H E DrThani Al Zeyoudi for inaugurating the event, Dr A Sakthivel, President, FIEO said, "India is committed to spend US$ 1.5 trillion on various infrastructure in the next 5 years which will facilitate our logistics by bringing efficiency and reducing its cost.Logistics is an important component of the economy and its role in manufacturing and exports can hardly be undermined”

The FIEO President pointed out that at present the logistics cost in India is about 14% of GDP as against the international benchmark of 8-9%. However, the focus of the Government in addressing the cost through various measures have already started yielding results. Government is implementing the dual Bharatmala (road network) and Sagarmala (waterways network) to improve logistic backbone. According to H E Ahmed Mahboob, Director General of Dubai Customs and the CEO of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, UAE has made significant progress in technology upgradation in customs and logistics sector and looks forward to support India in its mission for logistics sector transformation. Complementing FIEO on Mr. A.V. We have become the fastest growing major economy in the world. We endeavour to become a US$ 5 trillion economy by 2026. Indian logistics companies should form good partnerships with UAE companies and take advantage of technical expertise available in the region.” The Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations in India (FFFAI), which represented the logistics sector with a more than 120-memer delegation to the ‘World Expo 2020’ along with ‘LOGIX INDIA 2022’ expressed huge expectations regarding the increase of bilateral trade between India and UAE. Speaking at the Inauguration ceremony Mr Shankar Shinde, Chairman, FFFAI said that the FIEO organized mega event would have far reaching impact on the international trade of both the countries i.e. India and UAE. He thanked the Government of India, Ministry of Commerce and Industry for supporting the FIEO to organise this important event with delegation from India including FFFAI. MrShinde stated that FFFAI being the national body of Customs Brokers and Logistics Service providers plays important role in facilitating the EXIM trade. MrShinde further highlighted that FFFAI provides regular inputs to the Government of India on various logistics trade challenges faced by the trade. In association with the

government FFFAI conducts study on international project concerning creation of connectivity with new opportunities for EXIM trade and seamless movement. “The participation itself has shown the seriousness of Indian business with UAE and searching for increasing trade partnership. We appreciate the efforts taken to organise the ‘ Expo 2020 Dubai ’ and the participation response from several countries to join on the common platform to showcase their strength with innovative ideas for expansion of trade,” MrShinde added. According to the FFFAI Chairman, technology plays a very vital role in logistics and the industry people look forward to have a single window IT platform for the community in association with technology partners. “The future of logistics is digital with paperless, faceless, contactless integration with seamless movement and hence we have our next convention organised in August focussed on digital to leverage logistics performance with international participation,” he added. MrShinde highlighted the success story of the FIATA World Congress which was held in September 2018 in India, organised by FFFAI. The event received tremendous responses from the logistics industry from across the world and created leadership position in logistics sector for India. He pointed out that Indian Government plans to spend USD 1.5 trillion in improving infrastructure and most of the investments will take place in improving airports, ports, roads and rail connectivity. Sizeable investments will also be made in AI, IoT and Big Data for transformation of the supply chain and logistics industry. “Global Logistics market size is estimated at US$4.3 Trillion. With the recent signing of INDIA - UAE FTA, the trade opportunities between the two countries are expected to grow at phenomenal pace. Trade is expected to touch USD 100billion in the next 5 years and most Indian items are now duty free to UAE,” MrShinde added. About 100 Indian companies were in UAE at the 3rd Edition of LOGIX India to meet their prospective trade partners and FIEO is playing a key role to facilitate trade and investments in the sector. "We are excited at the prospects being offered in UAE post CEPA agreement and we look forward to exploring markets in Africa & MENA region through UAE," stated Dr Ajay Sahai, Director General & CEO, FIEO.
