Transworld Group plans to double eet within next two to three years Acquired four dry bulk ships in the last six months DUBAI/ CHENNAI : The Dubai-based Transworld Group (an Indian- owned family business in shipping) has expanded its fleet with the acquisition of four dry bulk ships in the last six months. The group, now, plans to double its fleet in the next 2-3 years. It owns Shreyas Shipping and Logistics (controlling interest), an Indian company with coastal operations using Indian flagged vessels for domestic sea trade. It also owns and operates Transworld Integrated Logistics Pvt Ltd in India, which is its global logistics division. The total cost of the four newly acquired ships could be between $40 million and $60 million, said Mr. Ritesh S Ramakrishnan, Joint Managing Director of the Transworld Group, which owns and operates a

diversified fleet of 25 vessels consisting of container, dry bulk and multipurpose carriers. These four ships are part of the handy-size bulk carrier segment. They have been acquired from Japanese, Vietnamese and European Mr. Ritesh S Ramakrishnan owners and have since been deployed on world-wide trading routes, he told. The company has tied up with European pool managers to deploy the ship on global trades albeit with a focus on the Atlantic basin. AMSTERDAM: DCSA recently released version 2.1 of our Track & Trace Interface Standards for customer-facing T&T events. Version 2.1 includes updates to key terms and attributes based on feedback carriers received while rolling out the standards to customers. The API definitions and reference implementation have also been updated, along with all accompanying documents: the DCSA Industry Blueprint 3.0, Information Model 3.2, and the web glossary of terms, which can be downloaded at dcsa.org. Effective immediately, everyone currently using the DCSA T&T standard should switch to v2.1. As always, API definitions can be downloaded from SwaggerHub and the new reference implementation is available on GitHub. Adani, Essar, DP World among others shows interest in developing berths at Major Ports : Sources MUMBAI: The government’s Rs 2,500 crore-plan to use private players to develop seven operational cargo berths run by state-owned ports has got a thumbs up from the industry. VO Chidambaranar Port Trust(VOC) and Paradip Port have got interests for their tenders from various industry majors like Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ), the Dubai government-owned DP World, Essar, J M Baxi Group and APM Terminals Management BV. “For berth No 9, we are planning a bulk cargo terminal in a public-private partnership model at an investment of over Rs 400 crore. At the expression of interest stage, we have seen interest from half-a-dozen players. We are getting interest from major players like Adani, DP World, Essar and Baxi Group,” said a source aware about the developments at VO Chidambaranar Port Trust (formerly Tuticorin Port Trust) in Tamil Nadu. Another source said that the majority of private players, including Essar, are in the race to develop the South Quay Berth (SQB) at Paradip Port Trust for around Rs 75 crore. VOC is also planning to develop the North Cargo Berth-III that may see investment of around Rs 420 crore, on PPP mode. This was part of a proposal mooted by the finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the Union Budget that indicated that seven projects worth Rs 2,000 crore will be on offer for private players as part of the new model of

management of ports. Under a new law passed by the parliament in February 2021, ports are moving towards an authority model of governance, moving away from the trustee model before. An Essar official was quoted as confirming of company having shown interest in Chidambaranar and Paradip projects. The largest of the seven projects is at Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), which plans to privatise its container terminal an investment of around Rs 860 crore. According to the media reports, the port trust is likely to come out with a global tender in this regard, in which APSEZ, DP World and APM Terminals Management BV are likely to participate. DP World and APM are already operating terminals in JNPT. JNPT will also see private participation for developing a dedicated berth run to handle ships that ply only on local routes at an investment of Rs 170 crore. Other major ports that may see private participation include Deendayal Port Trust in Kandla, Gujarat for developing Berth No. 14 at an investment of Rs 300 crore and the West Quay Berths 7 and 8 at Visakhapatnam Port Trust (Rs 288 crore). There are total 12 ports under the central government’s control: JNPT, Mumbai, Deendayal (erstwhile Kandla), Mormugao, Chennai, Kamarajar (earlier Ennore), VO Chidambarnar, New Mangalore, Cochin, Paradip, Kolkata (including Haldia) and Visakhapatnam.

Indian Railways registers highest ever Freight loading in July 2021 NEW DELHI: Continuing the momentum, Indian Railways has registered stupendous freight loading performance in July 2021 by achieving yet again highest ever freight loading in the month which has continued for last 11 months since September 2020. Indian Railways has achieved highest ever incremental freight loading of 17.54 million tonnes in July 2021 (an increase of 18.43 % over July 2020), with total freight loading of 112.72 million tonnes as against earlier best of 99.74 million tonnes in July 2019 and as against 95.18 million tonnes in July 2020. Major incremental growth over same month last year has been registered in • Coal 9.31 million tonnes (23.47%), • Cement sector 2.31 million tonnes(26.71%), • Steel 0.45 million tonnes (8.72%),

Iron -ore 1.81 million tonnes ( 14.05%), Raw material for steel other than iron ore 0.88 million tonnes (48.62%), • Food grains 0.43 million tonnes(7.89%), • Container 1.33 million tonnes (28.36%), • Balance other goods 1.11 million tonnes (13.34%). With freight loading of 451.97 million tonnes in current fiscal 2021-22 as against 336.74 upto July 2020, Indian Railways has also achieved highest ever cumulative incremental freight loading of 115.23 million tonnes i.e 34.22% over same period last year 2020-21. In cumulative performance major growth has been registered over same period last year in Coal 55.83 MT (37.11%), Iron-ore 18.07 MT (43.88%), Cement 15.01 MT (52.91%) and Balance other goods 10.45 MT (38.42%).

The vessels will ply between ports in Europe, Mediterranean, West Africa and South America with various cargoes such as grain, steel and fertilisers. In some cases, the ships will also carry salt and coal from the major exporting locations in Australia and Indonesia into China, he said. When asked about the reasons behind choosing bulk carriers, Ramakrishnan said that although the Group is commonly recognised as a container feeder ship owner, the company had diversified into the dry bulk segment nearly ten years ago with the purchase of the first bulk carrier in 2012 built in China. This was soon followed up with taking deliveries of two more bulk carriers and our recent purchases are only a

strengthening of the group's presence in this sector. “We have ambitious plans to double the fleet within the next 2-3 years and we are well on our way to achieving this goal,” he said. On the market for bulk transport, Ramakrishnan said that given the trade dynamics in the current Covid-19 pandemic scenario, this segment is very adaptable to various forms of cargoes and hence constitutes the ‘workhorse’ of the dry bulk movements along global trade lanes. As such, the segment sees less volatility despite major shake ups in the global economy. Besides, with factories around the world coming back to normal production levels slowly and raw material stockpiles depleted, there is now a very good scope for a healthy commercial deployment for years to come, he said.

Further, 395 projects worth Rs. 2.48 Lakh crore are under various stages of development. Value of non-oil, non-GJ (gold, silver & Precious metals) imports was USD 26.66 billion in July 2021 with a positive growth of 35.11% over non-oil and nonGJ imports of USD 19.73 billion in July 2020 but had a marginal negative growth of 0.17% over non- oil and non- GJ imports of USD 26.7 billion in July 2019. Top 5 commodity groups of export which have recorded positive growth during July 2021 vis-à-vis July 2020 are: Petroleum Products (215.68%), Gems and Jewellery (130.44%), Other Cereals (70.25%), Man-made Yarn / Fabrics / Made-ups etc. (58.67%) and Cotton Yarn/Fabrics / Made-ups, Handloom Products etc. (48.02%). Top 5 commodity groups of export which have recorded positive growth during July 2021 vis-à-vis July 2019 are: Other Cereals (530.65%), Petroleum Products (60.51%), Cotton Yarn/Fabrics/Made-ups, Handloom Products etc. (58.86%), Engineering Goods (55.07%) and Rice (36.97%). India’s merchandise exports in July 2021 was USD 35.17 billion, an increase of 47.91% over USD 23.78 billion in July 2020 and an increase of 34.06% over USD 26.23 billion in July 2019. India’s merchandise exports in Apr-July 2021 was USD 130.53 billion, an increase of 73.51% over USD 75.22 billion in AprJuly 2020 and an increase of 21.82% over USD 107.15 billion in Apr-July 2019. In July 2021, the value of non-

petroleum exports was USD 29.57 billion, registering a positive growth of 34.39% over USD 22.0 billion in July 2020 and a positive growth of 30.01% over USD 22.75 billion in July 2019. The cumulative value of nonpetroleum exports in April-July 2021 was USD 112.02 billion, an increase of 63.47% over USD 68.53 billion in AprilJuly 2020 and an increase of 21.05% over USD 92.54 billion in April-July 2019. The value of non-petroleum and non-gems and jewellery exports in July 2021 was USD 26.11 billion, registering a positive growth of 27.36% over nonpetroleum and non-gems and jewellery exports of USD 20.5 billion in July 2020 and a positive growth of 32.25% over non-petroleum and non-gems and jewellery exports of USD 19.75 billion in July 2019. The cumulative value of nonpetroleum and non-gems and jewellery exports in April-July 2021 was USD 99.39 billion, an increase of 54.43% over cumulative value of non-petroleum and non-gems and jewellery exports of USD 64.36 billion in April-July 2020 and an increase of 24.12% over cumulative value of non-petroleum and non-gems and jewellery exports of USD 80.08 billion in April-July 2019. Major commodity groups of export showing negative growth in July 2021 over July 2020 are – Oil Seeds (-38.65%), Oil Meals (-35.69%), Meat, Dairy and Poultry Products (-31.97%), Tobacco (10.35%), Spices (-10.29%), Tea (-8.97%), Rice (-7.85%), Cashew (-3.58%), Iron Ore (-3.5%), Coffee (-1.89%) and Fruits and Vegetables (-0.44%). Major commodity groups of import showing positive growth in July 2021 over July 2020 are: Only four commodity groups of import have shown a fall in July 2021 visà-vis July 2020. These are: Silver (-89.16%), Project Goods (-78.63%), Transport Equipment (-16.08%) and Newsprint (-3.49%).

PM launches digital payment solution e-RUPI NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi launched digital payment solution e-RUPI, a person and purpose specific digital payment solution, today via video conference. e-RUPI is a cashless and contactless instrument for digital payment. Addressing the event, the Prime Minister said that the eRUPI voucher is going to play a huge role in making DBT

more effective in digital transactions in the country and will give a new dimension to digital governance. This will help everyone in targeted, transparent and leakage free delivery. He said e-RUPI is a symbol of how India is progressing by connecting people’s lives with technology. He also expressed happiness that this futuristic reform initiative has come at a time when the country is celebrating the

Amrit Mahotsav on the 75th anniversary of independence. He said in addition to the government, if any organization wants to help someone in their treatment, education or for any other work, then they will be able to give an eRUPI voucher instead of cash. This will ensure that the money given by him is used for the work for which the amount was given.

Impressive order booking position to sustain Exports growth albeit logistics challenges: FIEO President NEW DELHI: Reacting to the trade data for July 2021-22, Dr A Sakthivel, President, FIEO said that the sustained growth in exports of about 48 percent with USD 35.17 billion over FY’ 2020-21 and by 34 percent over FY’ 2019-20 yet again demonstrated the strength and resilience of the exports sector. This is the highestever exports recorded at least in the previous 9 years as per the data readily available with FIEO. It also is a sign that global trade is recovering fast, added Dr Sakthivel. FIEO Chief reiterated that the global demand during this period has also remained buoyant as the order booking positions of the exporters have still been impressive.

Dr Sakthivel complimented the government under the able and dynamic leadership of P rime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and also the Union Finance Minister, Union Commerce & Textiles Minister for showing confidence and trust on the exporters during these difficult times, who have not only continuously performed impressively but have also been able to showcase that the government’s vision of Atma Nirbhar Bharat has given a boost to the sector. The FIEO President said that the top sectors, which performed impressively during the month compared to both July of 2020 and 2019 were Petroleum, Engineering Goods, Gem & Jewellery and Organic & Inorganic Chemicals. Dr Sakthivel emphasised that many

labour-intensive sectors were the main contributors, which itself is a good sign, further helping job creation in the country. FIEO President is of the view that though the government has announced a slew of measures to support exports, the need of the hour is to soon notify the RoDTEP rates to remove uncertainty from the minds of the trade and industry, besides addressing some of the key issues including priority status to exports sector, release of the necessary funds for MEIS and clarity on SEIS benefits, resolving risky exporters issues, augmenting the flow of empty containers and establishing a regulatory authority to seek justification of freight hike and imposition of various charges by the shipping lines.

Parliament passes landmark ‘Inland Vessels Bill, 2021’ to repeal and replace the existing Inland Vessels Act, 1917 NEW DELHI: Parliament recently passed the Inland Vessels Bill, 2021, which aims to replace over 100 years old Inland Vessels Act, 1917 (1 of 1917) and usher a new era in the inland water transport sector and also to fulfil the vision of the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, to make the Legislative framework user friendly and promote ease of doing business. Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways moved the bill in Rajya Sabha today. Now the bill will be sent for the assent of President of India. Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal said that the initiative taken is a part of the pro-active approach adopted by the Ministry by repealing colonial laws and replacing them with legislation catering to modern and contemporary needs and development of the maritime sector. Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, also added that the uniform applicability of rules and regulations will ensure seamless, safe and economical trade and transportation by inland vessels using the inland waterways. The Minister emphasized that the requirement of a new legal regime, which is adaptive and favourable for future technological developments, capable of facilitating present and future prospects of trade & transportation and safe navigation by inland vessels was necessitated. Benets: The new Act will facilitate harmonised and effective regulation of the inland vessels and their seamless and safe navigation across the States. The benefits include: I. Uniform applicability of rules and regulations to ensure seamless, safe and economical trade and transportation by using inland waterways. II. Prescribing of standards for classification and categorization of mechanically propelled vessels, standards and processes involved in registration of vessel; standards

for identification and categorization of special category vessels etc. by the Central Government and implementation of the provisions in compliance with the prescribed standards by State Governments. III. Preserving the statuses of authorities established by the respective State Governments and thereby ensures the effective administration of the provisions of the proposed legislation. IV. Provides for a Central Data Base /E-Portal for registration/crew database thereby imbibing the spirit of Digital India Campaign. V. Stipulating higher standards to ensure safety of navigation, protection of life and cargo, prevention of environmental pollution, providing for healthier trade practices, constitution of the welfare fund, transparency and accountability of administrative mechanism, training and development of efficient and skilled workforce. VI. Covers the future developments and technological advancements in vessel construction and usage. Regulating the technologically advanced vessels of the present and future identified as ‘Special Category Vessels’. VII. Provisions regarding Wreck and Salvage introduced. Receiver of Wreck to be appointed by the State Government. VIII. Provisions regarding principles of liability and limitation of liability introduced. To ensure secure trade and trade practices, concept of insurance improvised and expanded. IX. Provisions relating to casualties and investigation improvised. X. Ease of compliance for service provider and service users. XI. Provides a platform for the State Governments to regulate the unregulated sector of non-mechanically propelled vessels.
