AAL commits long-term to EU-Middle East / India - Asia service S I N G A P O R E : AAL Shipping (AAL) is marking the one-year anniversary of its ‘Europe – Middle East / India – Asia Monthly Liner Service’ with a long-term commitment to employing six ‘mega size’ (30,000+ DWT) heavy lift multipurpose vessels on the operation. The decision comes amid growing popularity for the service amongst large and small shippers from across Europe and the Middle East, able to parcel their project heavy lift, breakbulk, steel and general cargoes on AAL’s large tonnage vessels. Shipper demand has been amplified by the reliability of the scheduled

AAL commits long-term to EUMiddle East / India - Asia service Cont’d. from Pg. 3 Eike Muentz, General Manager at AAL Europe, explained, ‘It would have been justified if we had simply postponed our plans at the time and waited-out the worst of the pandemic and its potential impact on cargo readiness, port delays and crew restrictions. However, we had already built momentum in the shipper market and established strong relations with important partners and base ports along the service like Antwerp, Porto Marghera, Dammam and Jebel Ali. Despite severe pressure on our operations due to international COVID-19 restrictions, we have performed every sailing as planned and scheduled from then until now.’ Kay Goldenstein, Commercial Manager at AAL Europe added, ‘customers were initially cautious, having witnessed other MPP carriers on the trade lane fail to deliver on commitments. The fact that AAL had run a successful liner service between Asia and Australia for 25 years and had direct recent experience of operating numerous sailings between Europe and Asia gave us the confidence and credibility to approach shippers across Europe and the Middle East. We established a presence in key hubs across Northern, Central and Southern Europe and got the word out quickly to interested partners with cargo needs. This developed into

picking up breakbulk, steel and general cargo Eastbound – anything big or small – and parcelled these up with any project cargoes headed in the same direction.’ AAL made the decision early to deploy its young 31,000 DWT A-Class fleet on the service. These ‘mega-size’ vessels, supported by the carrier’s award-winning operations and engineering teams, are well-equipped to handle the diverse cargo profile required of a monthly liner service. Their clear weather deck space of 3,000 SQM combined with adjustable tweendecks and significant under deck volume make the vessels ideal for project heavy lift, general cargo, steel and bulk commodities as well as being equipped to carry every container size from 20ft to 53ft HC. Besides their 40,000 CBM cargo intake volume, they also feature HL cranes for units of up to 700 t. Muentz concluded, ‘Running a liner service takes a significant commitment of resources and people working literally around-the-clock and right across the route to ensure that our six vessels are fully employed and that our customers of all sizes find a place for their cargo on the sailing they want and calling the ports they need. We want AAL to be the first port of call for our customers and that requires trust and dependability and we are confident that the service and our team is up to the challenge.’

MARSEILLE: The CMA CGM Group, a world leader in shipping and logistics, announces today several initiatives it has implemented to meet the needs of its customers and make the shipping and logistics supply chain as seamless as possible, despite an exceptionally strong demand, particularly in the U.S. Over the past six months, demand for goods transportation has bounced back sharply from the contraction caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in the first half of 2020. U.S. capacity boosted As a customer-centric Group, CMA CGM has increased capacity in the U.S. by 39% between the first and second half of 2020. To demonstrate its agile approach and ongoing commitment to customers, the Group announced details of the continued ramp-up, which include: • 25 extra loaders operating on routes between Asia and the U.S. providing over 114,500 TEUs in total capacity, from May to December 2020; • 13 vessel-size increases; and • A new direct service called the Golden Gate Bridge (GGB) service with first call in Oakland on February 12. The rst and only Transpacic carrier to offer direct service to Oakland from Asia Effective immediately, CMA CGM’s GGB service (previously SEAPRIORITY EXPRESS) will first call at the Port of Oakland on its route from Shanghai and Yantian, China. It will remove the Port of Los Angeles from the current route and enhance service by providing customers with an innovative and creative fasttransit alternative that enables them to avoid congestion. The perfect alternative for customers in the U.S. Oakland is an ideal, reliable alternative to the Port of Los Angeles/Long Beach for West Coast customers importing goods due to its easy access for existing California shippers, immediate berth availability and fast rail connections into Chicago, Memphis, Dallas and Kansas City. The expanded service will also include Seattle, allowing for new capacity to Pacific Northwest customers. The CMA CGM Group continues to work closely with U.S. ports and other partners to actively develop and implement solutions to make the shipping and logistics supply chain seamless. The Group is implementing solutions to assist with the container shortage and port congestion

The CMA CGM Group has taken several measures to speed up the return of empty containers to Asia and to cut delays at the ports it serves in the U.S., Asia and Europe. In the U.S., CMA CGM has doubled the number of dedicated chassis in Southern California, broadened the base of truck providers to get containers in and out of the terminals more quickly, worked with rail partners to bring additional rail cars through Southern California and split calls between ports to increase velocity at berth. Globally, the Group has also created agile service solutions for customers in order to redistribute freight to ports less impacted by the congestion. During the second half of 2020, CMA CGM has increased the size of its container fleet by 8.7%, services have been rerouted to clear the build-up of empty containers, and CMA CGM is offering customers alternative solutions that use other types of containers to meet their needs. Finance Minister proposes 3 New DFC of 4,000 Kms NEW DELHI: With focus on the industry and better connectivity for freight transportation, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced three new Dedicated Freight Corridors (DFCs) of approximately 4,000 km. While presenting the Union Budget for 202122, the Finance Minister also announced the extension of the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor by 538 km from Sonnagar to Dankuni, for which the Railways have acquired 93 per cent land for the Sonnagar-Gomoh and 86 per cent land for Gomoh-Dankuni section. Sitharaman said, “The following additional initiatives are also proposed. The Sonnagar-Gomoh section of 263 km on EDFC will be taken up in PPP mode this year itself. Gomoh-Dankuni section of 274.3 km will also be taken up shortly in short succession.” She also said that the railways will take up the future dedicated freight corridor projects — East Coast Corridor from Kharagpur to Vijaywada, East-West Corridor from Bhusawal to Kharagpur to Dankuni and North-South Corridor from Itarsi to Vijaywada. She said that the detailed project report (DPR) will be undertaken in the first phase. Indian Railways last year started a detailed study on the nearly 4,000 kmlong new dedicated freight corridors connecting industrial areas in the eastern and western parts of the country to major ports in Odisha and Andhra P radesh, expected to be completed by this year.

According to the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation India Linited (DFCCIL) officials, the proposed DFCs are part of the next big infrastructure projects of the national transporter. The official said that last year the railways started the survey work for the three new corridors started which will be completed by 2021, while the construction of these new corridors is expected to be completed by 2030. The new corridors are the 1,115-km E a s t C o a s t c o r r i d o r f r o m We s t Bengal’s Kharagpur to Andhra Pradesh’s Vijayawada, the 1,673 km E a s t -We s t c o r r i d o r c o n n e c t i n g Bhusawal-Nagpur-KharagpurDankuni (near Kolkata), the 195-km Rajkharswan-Kalipahari-Andal (West Bengal) route, and the 975-km North S o u t h s u b - c o r r i d o r Vi j a y a w a d a Nagpur-Itarsi (Madhya P radesh) route. These corridors will provide connectivity to Paradeep, Dhamra, Gopalpur ports in Odisha and Vishakhapatnam, Gangavaram, Kakinada, Krishnapatnam and Machhalipatanam ports in Andhra Pradesh, ensuring faster movement of goods and capacity enhancement in the over-saturated sections of the railway network. In a major boost to development of Odisha, the proposed KharagpurVijayawada corridor will pass through the state’s Kalinagar Industrial area, connecting it with southern India. The Kalinagar Industrial area will by then already be connected with the western part of the country through the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor.

The industrial area has ferrochrome and alloy industries, sponge iron plants, steel companies like Tata Steel, Neelachal Ispat Nigam Ltd, Mesco Ispat & Steel Ltd, Jindal Stainless Steel Ltd, Yazdani Steel and Power Ltd, Maitan Ispat, among others. Similarly, Odisha’s Angul Industrial area, home to aluminium industries, thermal power plants, a heavy water plant, coal fields and iron and steel plants, will get an impetus with the new East-West corridor, connecting it to the western part of the country as well as the coal belts in the east. The 3,373 km Eastern and Western DFCs, a flagship project of the railways, aims to augment rail transport capacity to meet the growing requirement of movement of goods by segregating freight from passenger traffic. The WDFC runs from the Jawaharlal Nehru Port in Mumbai to Tughlakabad and Dadri near Delhi, and will cater largely to the container transport requirements between the existing and emerging ports in Maharashtra, Gujarat and the northern hinterland. The 1,839 km EDFC runs from Punjab’s Ludhiana to Dankuni near Kolkata. It could be extended to serve the new deep-sea port, proposed in the Kolkata area, and will largely handle coal and steel traffic. The DFCCIL plans to run freight trains on these dedicated corridors at 100 kmph against the current 75 kmph. It also plans to increase the average speed of the freight trains from 26 kmph to 70 kmph on them.

India’s Exports are on path of quicker recovery: TPCI NEW DELHI: The country’s exports, which have recorded a growth of 5.4 per cent in January, reflects the trade has been on the path of quick recovery, TPCI said recently. Trade Promotion Council of India (TPCI) Founder Chairman Mohit Singla said that the exports have also recorded positive growth in December 2020 and it is a reflection that Indian products have been sustaining its global demand despite challenges. “The figures clearly show that the

global trade flow has been streamlining fast, and bottlenecks owing to the pandemic are easing out gradually,” he said in a statement. He also said that imports have also started picking up, reflecting a revival in the domestic market demand. “Among the top five commodity groups of export which recorded positive growth during January 2021 are other cereals, Oil meals, and cereal preparations and miscellaneous processed items, and Jute manufacturing. This shows that the

agri and processed food industry are the engine of this demand driven growth and I am hopeful that this momentum is going to continue,” Singla added. The country’s exports grew 5.37 per cent year-on-year to USD 27.24 billion in January 2021, mainly driven by healthy growth in pharmaceuticals and engineering sectors, according to provisional data of the commerce ministry. Imports during the month rose 2 per cent to USD 42 billion, leaving a trade deficit of USD 14.75 billion.

Adani Ports records 31% growth in Jan Cargo volume MUMBAI: Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) cargo volume rose 31% year- on-year (YoY) to 26.02 MMT in January 2021. The cargo volume includes volume of 3.87 MMT of K r i s h n a p a t n a m Po r t t h a t w a s acquired in October 2020.

“The growth in cargo volume for the month of January, 2021 excluding Krishnapatnam Port was 11% on yearon-year (YoY) basis,” the company said in a filing made during market hours today. APSEZ, a part of globally diversified Adani Group, is the largest port developer and operator in India. APSEZ accounts for nearly one-fourth of the

cargo movement in the country. It is present across 10 domestic ports in six maritime states of Gujarat, Goa, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Odisha. APSEZ reported 31.6% rise in consolidated net profit to Rs 1,393.69 crore on 2.9% increase in net sales to Rs 2,902.52 crore in Q2 September 2020 over Q2 September 2019.

India delivers 2 Cranes for Chabahar Port TEHRAN/NEW DELHI: In its latest push to develop Iran’s Chabahar port project, India handed over two 140tonne cranes for loading and unloading equipment to the Iranian government recently. The cranes, part of a full consignment of six Mobile Harbour Cranes (MHC) worth about $25million were sourced from Italy and formally released at a ceremony at Chabahar’s Shahid Beheshti port after official talks between India and Iran. India’s plans to invest further in the port project are seen as an indicator that the government expects some easing up in U.S. sanctions in the upcoming months, once the new Biden administration begins to address its policy on re-entering the Iran nuclear deal. Sources said that the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) will also hold a quadrilateral meeting in Delhi with officials from Afghanistan, Iran, Uzbekistan and “another Central Asian countries as observer” to discuss Chabahar connectivity and transit trade opportunities. “We are happy to supply the port of Chabahar with two cranes… This can solve some of the problems in loading and unloading cargos,” MEA Joint Secretar y for Iran-PakistanAfghanistan J.P. Singh said, according to Iranian news agencies. He also

pointing out that the port has been able to handle 75,000 tonnes of wheat donated by India to Afghanistan so far, along with other operations. The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said the MEA delegation had also held “political consultations” with their Iranian counterparts. “Recent international and regional developments attach particular importance to this round of general political dialogue,” tweeted MFA official Rasoul Mousavi, indicating that the possible shift in the U.S.’s Iran policy was discussed. Earlier this month, the Ministry of Shipping and Ports had said the delivery of the cranes “shows India’s commitment to the strategic connectivity of Chabahar port project that will provide access to markets in Central Asia,” explaining that the consignment was part of a bilateral contract between India and Iran signed in May 2016 for $85 million to equip and operationalise the port. The MEA delegation’s visit comes a month after transport officials of India, Iran and Uzbekistan held their first “Trilateral Working Group Meeting” on the joint use of Chabahar Port. Sources said India has now proposed a few dates for a quadrilateral meeting, which will also bring in Afghanistan to the talks later this year and is awaiting

confirmations from all sides. According to the sources, the focus of the meeting would be to “fast-track regional economic integration” as well as promote the joint objective to “promote peace and stability in Afghanistan and the whole region. The four countries may also discuss a mechanism or secretariat that would handle the joint project at Chabahar in the future. The cranes delivery comes after several delays due to the impact of U.S. sanctions on various parts of the Chabahar project, which have slowed down both the procurement of equipment, as well as banking and insurance arrangements for developing infrastructure, even though India received a “sanctions waiver” from Washington for developing Chabahar port.

Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port handles Domestic rake at its Rail siding KOLKATA: In an effort to monetize its under-utilized infrastructure assets, Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata (formerly known as Kolkata Port Trust) is making available such assets for domestic use. The port received the first ever domestic automobile rake at its GCD yard siding in Kolkata on 30-01-2021. The first auto rake was brought by Joshi Konoike Transport and Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd. from Farukh Nagar, Gurgaon and reached Kolkata in approximately 48 hours. The specialized BCACBM rake contained 270 cars which were kept

in the storage yard and then distributed to the local dealers within the radius of 10 kilometers. The port has developed plans to utilize and monetize its unused or underutilized railway infrastructure such as this siding and hence, has made available such infrastructure to domestic usage. The GCD yard siding can handle

different types of rail cargo including automobiles, containers, bulk cargo, etc.

India to emerge as most resilient economy after Germany in 2021: PHDCCI NEW DELHI: India will emerge as the most resilient economy after Germany in 2021 exhibiting a strong “economic resurgence” to the global economic turmoil caused by the COVID19 pandemic, according to a report. Germany ranks first in the PHDCCI International Economic Resilience (IER) Rank followed by India and South Korea at second and third positions, respectively, according to the report released by industry body PHDCCI. It is based on analysis of five lead macroeconomic indicators reflecting a

countr y ’s economic per for mance including real GDP growth rate, merchandise export growth rate, current account balance (as percentage of GDP), general government net lending/borrowing (as percentage of GDP) and gross debt-to-GDP ratio. India’s IER Rank stands at second among the top-10 leading economies, indicating strong resilience of the Indian economy to the daunting pandemic of COVID-19, said PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Sanjay Aggarwal.

The overall performance is projected at the second position after Germany in 2021, he added. India’s real GDP growth rate is projected to be the highest at 11.5 per cent in the year 2021 among the top-10 leading economies in the world, according to the industry body. The merchandise export volume growth is estimated to be the strongest at 14 per cent in the year 2021, reflecting the great potential that the economy holds in terms of its international presence, said Aggarwal.

Higher logistics cost and less space on ship raise concerns over loosing Export orders : Mr.Rajan Nair, Alltime Shipping “A sharp increase in Ocean Freight and Air Freight bound for world wide destinations put Exporters and Importers to hold their shipments at a toss making huge losses. Currently Exporters are need to wait 2-3 weeks for shipment even though paying high freight rates. Apart from this, the Exporter need to shell out additional freight premium also to secure space for loading his cargo on the ship. There is tremendous shortage of containers with shipping companies thus triggering freight rates increase more than 125% therefore widening the gap between demand and supply increased. It’s probably due to major transhipment port like Colombo, Port Klang, Singapore and Salalah are highly congested therefore ship berthing time at these ports are increased to 10-15 days. Also there are many end destination ports are congested which effecting the entire supply chain and turn around time of the containers. The other important concern is that ship allocation from/to India is reduced due to higher export from China to USA and Europe with high freight rates (Current rate from China to USA is approx. $ 10000 per TEU and Europe $ 9000 per TEU) which is encouraging the shipping companies for repositioning empty containers from India to China to get higher freight rates. The current ocean freight from India to USA is approx. $ 3500 per TEU and Europe $ 2500 per TEU.

However it’s again a Global Logistics Pandemic, it’s Mr. Rajan Nair necessary to take up the issues globally and strongly to ease the trade. Current situation forced the Exporters to execute only his emergency orders by paying higher logistics cost and many export orders are getting cancelled or postponed due to additional freight rates incurred. Nevertheless to say, higher freight rates also a big challenge to Logistics Service Providers for their high investment in the industry. The Current budget has reduced import duty for some products like Stainless Steel, Solar, Steel Scraps etc.. and this may increase more imports to India and generate more containers inventory and hope to reduce the freight rates soon.” said, Mr. Rajan Nair, Alltime Shipping.

This service is being run in the dedicated freight corridor and will significantly reduce the transit time. The WLP has a proven track record. In Dubai, 12 local providers have confirmed more than 50 benefits which have in turn been applied to over 300 traders, accounting for approximately 50% of the emirate’s trade. Since its inception in 2019, the WLP has generated more than AED 3 billion in total trade.
