PSA’s BMCT berths mv MSC Virgo; Deepest draft Vessel handled by JNPT so far NAVI MUMBAI: PSA’s Bharat Mumbai Container Te r m i n a l s ( B M C T ) berthed mv MSC Virgo of Portuguese Flag with 15.7 meters draft, the Deepest draft vessel handled at JNPT on 27th Feb’21. The vessel was berthed safely by Cdr (Retd) Arun Sabnis. BMCT Officials thanked JNPT for the smooth berthing & unberthing of MSC Virgo at their Terminal which handled around 2199 moves in 15.5 hrs, achieving a vessel productivity of 141 moves per hour.
SCI to actively participate in MIS 2021 MUMBAI: The Shipping Corporation of India Ltd. held a press conference on 25th February, 2021 on the 2nd Edition of the Maritime India Summit 2021 (MIS 2021) – a virtual 3 day event, being organized by the Ministry of Shipping Ports and Waterways from 2nd to 4th March, 2021. L eading media houses, Shipping publications and Local dailies were invited to attend the Press Conference to publicise the event on national and international platform. Hon’ble Prime Minister of India – Shri Narendra Modi would inaugurate the MIS summit on 2nd March, 2021 where participation of delegates from across the globe is expected, with association of 24 partner countries and more than 400 projects shall be showcased to promote the spirit of “Atma Nirbhar Bharat”. Particulars relating to the Virtual Summit-cumExhibition and the sessions that would be showcased was disseminated to the press fraternity by way of a video film, followed by a presentation and showcasing the MIS 2021 brochure and the unveiling of the digital brochure for the Breakout Session 3 was also done during the conference. New service at the Port of Antwerp Efficient vessel guidance thanks to Vessel Traffic Services ANTWERP: Port of Antwerp launched a new shipping guidance system from Monday March 1st. The new service, called Vessel Trafc Services (VTS), is responsible for safe and smooth vessel trafc at the port. Trafc on the Scheldt and at the Antwerp docks is becoming increasingly busy and Port of Antwerp is aiming to deal with this effectively. The new service will ensure more efcient guidance of shipping trafc. In addition, VTS also guarantees an increase in safety and environmental protection at the port. Smooth trafc VTS provides information and advice on both ship navigation and weather conditions, calamities and other potential risks. The new VTS operators and traffic controllers are responsible for the safe and efcient organisation of shipping trafc behind the locks. The analysis and communication of this information allows for a smoother throughput of seagoing vessels and inland navigation craft.
Overview of the new VTS sectors in the Port of Antwerp
On the Left and Right Bank The port will be monitored through three sectors. The Right Bank is divided into 2 sectors, Polder and City, while the Lef t Bank becomes the Waasland sector. These sectors each have their own VHF channel for communicating with traffic participants. With the start-up of the new vessel traffic control system, vessel traffic will be monitored by a VTS operator. The start-up of the service will take place in several phases. On March 1, VTS will begin with the Waasland sector at the docks on the Left Bank. The service is operational from Monday to Friday between 8am and 4pm. As of 3 April, the service will operate 24/7. In the autumn, the phased roll-out on the Right Bank will begin in the Polder sector and the City sector. Contact The service accounts for 33 jobs. Eight VTS trafc controllers and 25 VTS operators will be working at the VTS centre, which will be based in the Antwerp Coordination Centre (ACC) at Zandvliet Lock. GatewayRail Flags Off Dedicated Round-trip Export Train for Amul From Ahmedabad MUMBAI: Gateway Rail Freight Ltd. (GatewayRail), a subsidiary of Gateway Distriparks Limited, flagged off its first dedicated round-trip export Ser vice between ICD Viramgam and Nhava Sheva Port for India’s dairy giant, Amul – Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF). The exporters in the Ahmedabad region have been facing a lot of difficulty due to the ongoing crisis of shortage of shipping line containers. To address this issue, Gateway Rail Freight Limited decided to provide dedicated round trip services between ICD Viramgam and various ports which brings in empty containers in to the Ahmedabad region in the inward direction, and carries export laden containers to various ports in the outward direction. Gateway Rail has been pioneer in providing dedicated weekly train services for imports and exports carried by all major shipping lines and major customers. These dedicated services are matched with vessel cut-offs in the case of exports, and vessel arrival for imports. The company operates a fleet of 31 train sets and has an overall annual handling capacity of over 600,000 TEUs. GatewayRail (a subsidiary of Gateway Distriparks Ltd) is India’s leading Private Intermodal Operator which operates four rail-linked Inland Container Depots at Garhi Harsaru
(Gurgaon), Faridabad, Ludhiana and Viramgam (Ahmedabad) and a Domestic Container Terminal in Navi Mumbai with an overall annual handling capacity of over 6,00,000 TEU and warehousing space of over 40,000 SQM. The company operates a fleet of 31 container trains sets and providing daily container train ser vices from these ICD to ports terminals at Nhava Sheva, Mundra and Pipavav ports for Export Import and Domestic containers. The parent company Gateway Distriparks Ltd (GDL) operates six Container Freight Stations at Nhava Sheva (2), Chennai, Krishnapatanam, Kochi and Visakhapatnam and India’s largest cold chain network through its group company Snowman Logistics Ltd.

Hapag-Lloyd opens new ofce in Kenya The new office will be headed by Country Manager Prashant Sindhwani HAMBURG: Hapag-Lloyd ( w w w. H a p a g - L l o y d . c o m ) i s continuing to grow in Africa. Today, the shipping company opened a new office in Kenya. While the main business will be managed from the port city of Mombasa, the company will also have an office in Nairobi, the country’s capital. Hapag-Lloyd mainly transports agricultural goods out of Kenya, especially tea, coffee, fruits and textiles. The imports primarily consist of chemicals, foodstuffs and a wide range of goods made of plastic or rubber. The new office will be headed by Country Manager Prashant Sindhwani. While 19 staff members will work in Mombasa, 6 will be based in Nairobi and 1 in Uganda. Via the gateway port of Mombasa, the shipping company offers two different services. While the China Kenya Express Service (CKX) connects Kenya with some of the most important ports in Asia, such as Singapore and Shanghai, the East Africa Service (EAS2) connects the East African country with the west coast of India and Jebel Ali in Dubai. “Kenya is the economic hub of East Africa and the most important growth region on the continent,” says Dheeraj Bhatia, Senior Managing Director Region Middle East at Hapag-Lloyd. “By opening our new office in Kenya, we expect to continue our robust growth on the African continent.”
Hapag-Lloyd also serves landlocked East African countries – such as Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and South Sudan – with regular inland connections to and from Mombasa. As part of its growth strategy, the shipping company will endeavour to develop inland connections to Somalia, Southern Ethiopia and Northern Tanzania. Additionally Hapag-Lloyd recently opened its Quality Service Center in Mauritius.
PSA & CDAS Partner Up to Launch SmartBooking A One-Stop Digital Solu on Pla orm for the Supply Chain Community SINGAPORE: In a concerted effort to drive supply chain orchestration and digitalisation, PSA Corporation Ltd (PSA) and the Container Depot and Logistics Association (Singapore) (CDAS) have launched ‘SmartBooking’ – an integrated one-stop booking platform for container depots, terminals, hauliers and logistics facilities across Singapore. Supported by Enterprise Singapore (ESG), Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), and Smart Nation and Digital Government Office (SNDGO), this initiative will play a major role in Singapore’s logistics ecosystem digitalisation roadmap, and is part of the National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Strategy to facilitate data exchange and enable the deployment of AI solutions. Developed by PSA, SmartBooking is an online service platform which supports digitalisation efforts by seamlessly connecting stakeholders across the supply chain and logistics value chain in Singapore. Through the single end-to-end platform, users gain higher visibility of the entire logistics flow, obtaining easy access to information such as vessel schedules, container movement events and planned activities. SmartBooking allows processes to be further streamlined, with the optimization of assets and resources, leading to a more efficient logistics ecosystem and an overall reduction in carbon footprint. PSA, with advisory input from CDAS, has also introduced ‘iBOX’ (Intelligent Box Operation eXchange), a next-generation depot management solution that digitally connects the port with container depots across Singapore. iBOX is further integrated with SmartBooking for seamless data exchange, enabling better truck visibility for enhanced efficiency between logistics facilities and container depots, two major nodes in container
transportation. SmartBooking will enable users to arrange shipment efficiently, pool jobs, better plan their trips and track resource availability with ease, all on one easy-to-use platform. Ms Seow Hwee, Head of Cargo Solutions Southeast Asia, PSA International, said, “By bringing players across the supply chain and logistics value chain onto a single platform, PSA, together with our valued partners, are championing to establish an Intelligent Logistics Ecosystem, connecting key nodes comprising our port, depots, warehouses and plants. Centre nalises One District One Focus Product to promote in cluster approach NEW DELHI: The Centre on Saturday said that the list of One District One Focus Product (ODOFP), which will be promoted in a cluster approach through convergence of the various schemes, has been finalised. The products have been identified from agricultural, horticultural, animal, poultry, milk, fisheries and aquaculture, marine sectors for 728 districts across the country. Fruits have been identified for 226 districts, the highest in the list while vegetables for 107 ditstrics and spices for 105 districts are at the second and the third position in the list. The chief food crop paddy has been identified for 40 districts while wheat for 5 districts. The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare in consultation with
the Ministry of Food Processing Industrieshas finalised the products for One District One Focus Product (ODOFP), said an official statement. The list of products have been finalised after taking inputs from the States/UTs and Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). These products will be promoted in a cluster approach through convergence of the Government of India schemes, to increase the value of the products and with the ultimate aim of increasing the income of the farmers. These identified products will be supported under the PM-FME scheme (PM Formalisation of Micro food processing Enterprises Scheme) of the Ministry of Food Processing Industries which provides incentives to promoter and micro-
enterprises. Many products also include convergence of resources and approach from the other departments. The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare will support ODOFP from its ongoing centrally sponsored schemes such as Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH), National Food Security Mission’ (NFSM), Rashtriya Krishi Vik as Yo ja na (RKVY), Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojna (PKVY). The implementation of ODOFP by State Governments will benefit farmers and provide support for realizing the expectations of value addition and subsequently enhancing agricultural exports.
JNPT, Deendayal Ports offering Cargo discounts to boost trade at Chabahar Port NEW DELHI: To enhance trade at Chabahar port in Iran, Jawaharlal Nehru Port and Deendayal Port are offering discounts on the vessel and cargo charges, as per the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Water ways. Chabahar Port lies outside the Persian Gulf and is easily accessed from India’s western coast, bypassing Pa k i s t a n . “ To p r o m o t e S h a h i d Beheshti Port of Chabahar, Iran Jawaharlal Nehr u Port and D e e n d a y a l Po r t a r e p r o v i d i n g discounts on Vessel related charges and Cargo related charges for the vessels going and arriving from Shahid Beheshti,” according to the ministry. Fo r t h e p a s t s i x m o n t h s , a 50 per cent discount on terminal handling charges for transit containers has also been granted. “The flow of bulk cargo is s t e a d y. Tr a n s i t c a r g o f r o m Afghanistan is now picking up. The Shipping line has assured us of
weekly container service as volumes are on the rise,” as per a document from the MoPSW. Till January 31, 2021, about 123 vessels have berthed at the terminal and IPGCFZ have handled approximately 13,752 TEUs (twentyfoot equivalent unit) and 18 lakh tonne of bulk / general cargo, it added. Efforts are on to improve the traffic at Chabahar Port. The Short Lease Contract has since been renewed till June 25, 2021. “We are now in possession of over 1,240 mts berth length and 70 Ha of back up area. Four post Panamax vessels can now simultaneously berth at our terminal,” as per the shipping ministry document. The ministry also said CONCOR has proposed to commence shipping service from the east and west coast of India to Vorsino terminal in Moscow via Shahid Beheshti port using INSTC (International NorthSouth Transport Corridor) route.
This will be under multimodal using sea leg till Chabahar and thereafter by road and/or rail. It is under their internal approvals, as per the document. In January, India supplied a consignment of two mobile harbour cranes to the Chabahar port having a total contract value of over USD 25 million. Additional Secretary, MoPSW, Sanjay Bandopadhyaya said two more cranes are standing for loading near the port near Venice, which will reach by March-end to this port, while another two will reach by June-end. Bandopadhyaya said after mobile harbour cranes are delivered, there are plans to procure rail-mounted cranes for which bidding is going on. Since 2017, he has said, India had sent a consignment of 1.1 lakh tonnes of wheat, pulses and other assistance in over 4,800 containers to Afghanistan through the Chabahar port.

MARSEILLE: Rodolphe Saadé, Chairman and Chief Executive Ofcer of the CMA CGM Group, a world leader in shipping and logistics, announced, he would dedicate six liquefied natural gas (LNG) powered containerships to the U.S. market as part of the Group’s ongoing efforts to improve air quality and drive forward the energy transition of the shipping industry. Rodolphe Saadé made the announcement at the opening session of TPM, the premiere conference for the trans-Pacific and global container shipping and logistics community. Six 15,000-TEU LNG-powered vessels to call the U.S. The first of these new vessels will be delivered in October 2021, and all ships will be fully operational by the end of 2022. The six 15,000-TEU vessels will be deployed on CMA CGM’s Pearl River Express (PRX) line, which sails from China to the Port of Los Angeles. The CMA CGM Group is currently operating 12 LNG-powered containerships, a fleet that will grow to 32 containerships of various sizes by 2022. This technology is one of the first steps towards achieving CMA CGM Group’s ambitious 2050 objective of carbon neutrality. LNG is currently the state-of-the-art industry solution for preserving air quality. It delivers a reduction of 99% in sulfur dioxide, 91% in particulate matter emissions and 92% in nitrogen oxide emissions, far surpassing the requirements of current regulations. LNG also provides an initial response to the challenge of tackling climate change. An LNG-powered vessel emits up to 20% less CO2 than fuel-powered systems. Moving toward a zero-carbon future Time is of the essence for addressing, now more than ever, the impact of climate change. Noida notied as ‘Town of Export Excellence’ for apparel products NOIDA: In what comes as a big boost for the apparel industry in the city, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), under the ministry of commerce and industry, notified Noida as a ‘town of export excellence (TEE)’ for apparel products. Gautam Budh Nagar District Magistrate Suhas LY said that with this Gazette notification, Noida will be eligible for many export promotion schemes of the central government, which include central assistance of States and market access initiative. “It’ll also provide support in strengthening infrastructure, simplifying rules and procedures, besides developing production infrastructure relating to design, R&D packaging, logistic support, etc. Since Noida is in the TEE category now, the ministry will also provide awareness and information about international marketing, which will pave the way for further export promotion in the district,” he said. Lalit Thukral, the president of Noida Apparel Export Cluster (NAEC) said that the notification is a great achievement for the apparel industry here. “It’s the second big recognition for the city, after getting declared as ‘city of apparel’ by the state government. It’ll certainly accelerate the NAEC’s mission to develop Noida as a distinguished destination for apparel products,” he said. “As per the present scheme of the centre, an area/cluster that realizes an annual export turnover of Rs. 1,000 crore or more will be notified as TEE. However, for TEE in handloom, handicraft, agriculture and fisheries sector, the threshold limit is Rs. 150 crore. Getting the TEE status means the city has immense potential for growth in exports of key items like handloom, agriculture, textiles, handicraft and fisheries. The DGFT notifies a town in this category to enable them to move up in the value chain and tap new markets,” he said. When contacted, a joint secretary in ministry of commerce and industries said that at present, there are altogether 35 towns in India notified as TEE for their unique exportable commodity. “The TEE towns get benefits from many promotional programmes launched by the centre. One of such schemes is the market access initiative (MAI) to recognize export associations, under which financial assistance is
provided for export promotion activities on focus country, focus product basis to different industry associations there. These activities include market surveys, setting up of warehouses, participation in international trade fairs, publicity campaigns, brand promotion, reimbursement of registration charges for pharmaceuticals and testing charges for engineering products abroad,” the officer said, asking to remain anonymous.
MOL to expand sharing of ship operation data TOKYO-Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL; President & CEO: Junichiro Ikeda) and Ship Data Center Co., Ltd. (ShipDC; President: Yasuhiro Ikeda) have agreed to share the data of about 180 MOL’s ships in operation targeted for MOL’s “FOCUS Project” through IoS Open Platform (IoS-OP), the ship IoT data sharing platform promoted by ShipDC. MOL had so far stored operation data collected from several vessels to IoS-OP, and has agreed to expand the sharing to about 180 ships in operation. This data sharing will significantly increase the amount of ship operation data transferred in IoS-OP, and will enable the stakeholders to utilize the data shared in IoSOP to enhance their corporate value through the pursuit of ship safety and economic efficiency, environmental initiatives, and the creation of innovations in the maritime industry to strengthen international competitiveness. MOL and ShipDC aim for safety of ships, contribution to the environment, and economic rationality through the data utilization as well as further acceleration of the collection, distribution, and utilization of data in the maritime industry with IoS-OP at the core. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Yoshikazu Kawagoe, Senior Managing Executive Officer, MOL said “Representing not only MOL but also IoS-OP Consortium as its chairperson, I am glad to announce the agreement to boost the data use and digital transformation of the maritime industry. Added 180 ships in MOL’s operation, the data available at IoS-OP is expected to reach 500 ships in due course, which offers the unique and practical opportunity to utilize the ship operation data. I am convincing the increase of data volume will bring about the better data-driven solution from IoS-OP.”

FOCUS Project MOL’s "Fleet Optimal Control Unified System (FOCUS) Project". By analyzing the data collected by more than 10,000 sensing items from vessels, engines, cargoes, sea weather and so on at a high frequency (one-minute intervals), MOL has been developing various applications which support to enhance vessel safety and protect the marine environment. Internet of Ships Open Platform (IoS-OP) A universal platform that enables the sharing of ship operation data among shipbuilders, manufacturers, and related service providers without compromising profits of data providers. 57 organizations joined the member association “IoS-OP Consortium”(Chairperson: Yoshikazu Kawagoe, Senior Managing Executive Officer, MOL) as of the end of 2020. ClassNK’s wholly owned subsidiary ShipDC operates IoS-OP under the supervision of the consortium.
