APM Terminals Pipavav achieves 1,000 days of safe operations milestone This is the second me, the Port has achieved this milestone PIPAVAV: APM Terminals Pipavav, today successfully achieved 1,000 days of safe operations with no casualties and loss time injury (LTI). The highest level of safety is the result of the continuous training, monitoring, and supervising of all operations as well as employees’ proactive initiatives to embrace safety in daily work. The milestone is even more significant considering the ‘extremely severe’ cyclone Tauktae that impacted the operations at the Port earlier in the year. To celebrate this momentous occasion, a small program was organised at the port. The management congratulated the employees for their triumphant milestone and lauded their efforts and commitment to safety. Safety is at the core of the operations at APM Terminals Pipavav. The port has embarked on APM Terminals’ designated safety initiatives to ensure maximum safety with collaborative efforts in transportation, suspended loads and lifting, working at heights, stored energy, and control of contractors. Commenting on the milestone, Mr. Jakob Friis Sorenson, MD, APM Terminals Pipavav said, “Safety is of supreme importance to us at APM Terminals Pipavav. We are proud to successfully accomplish 1000 days of safe operations at the port. This has been made possible only because of the proactive, dedicated, and continuous efforts of our various teams to engage the employees positively at the workplace. I applaud all our employees for their vigilance, commitment and for imbibing safety into the day to day work. This is just the beginning and I look forward to our journey to safe operations for years to come.”

K Line orders 8 Car Carriers TOKYO: Fresh from receiving its first LNG-fuelled car carrier, Japan’s Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line) is adding more of this ship type. The Tokyo-headquartered line revealed today orders for eight 7,000 ceu LNG-fuelled car carriers. The ships, which will deliver between 2023 and 2025, will be built at Nihon

Shipyard, Shin Kurushima Dockyard and China Merchants Jinling Shipyard. Astonishing amounts of money have been spent on vehicle carrier newbuilds in recent weeks, driving asset prices through the roof with a total of $4.5bn, including options, having been agreed year to date.

CEVA Logistics offering ground transport solutions from China using 9710, 9810 eCommerce customs codes CEVA Logis cs ﬁrst to use eCommerce customs codes at Alashankou port MARSEILLE: CEVA Logistics is leveraging its customs clearance expertise to offer customers a new method for delivering transport solutions via Alashankou port using the 9710 and 9810 eCommerce customs supervision codes. CEVA was the first company to use the codes at the Alashankou border crossing during two pilot shipments in July. The port in northwestern China borders Kazakhstan and recently opened to exports using codes designed for companies engaging in eCommerce activity. Previously, only cargo with general customs clearance was permitted through the port. In response to the change, CEVA Logistics delivered two pilot shipments for customers using the newly permissible 9710 and 9810 customs codes. The first shipment of nearly 9,000 parcels, departed from Shenzhen China to Frankfurt Germany with a 20-day door-todoor transit time. CEVA used its multimodal TRT (Truck-RailTruck) solution for this pilot shipment with code 9810. The second shipment of more than 400 higher-value parcels was consolidated using both 9710 and 9810 customs supervision codes. CEVA also used its international trucking solution for the second pilot shipment. The truck left Shenzhen, China, and 16 days later, delivered the parcels to the customer’s warehouse in U.K. for final distribution.

The Customs Declaration code 9710 is described as “crossborder e-commerce B2B direct export” and applies to goods directly exported by sellers on a cross-border e-commerce sales platform; while code 9810 goods are exported by sellers who apply for cross-border e-commerce export goods to international warehouses. The codes are intended to help smalland medium-size Chinese companies participate in international trade and more easily develop their international, cross-border business. CEVA Logistics continues to develop additional ground, block train or multi-modal transport options between China and Europe to serve the growing need to balance delivery time, cost and more environmentally sustainable transport. Says Jessica Herren, Global Leader of Customs Brokerage, CEVA Logistics: “At CEVA Logistics, our goal is to make international trade easy. We explore new transit routes and methods to reduce transit time, but in addition, we have the customer clearance experts necessary to help our customers’ business grow internationally. India records 22% rise in export of agri & processed food products in April-August (2021-22) despite COVID 19 NEW DELHI: In a major boost to export prospects of agricultural produce, India has achieved a significant increase of 21.8 percent in export of agricultural and processed food products in the 2021-22 (April-August) in comparison to the corresponding period of 2020-21. According to the Quick Estimates released by the Directorate General of Commercial Intelligence and Statistics (DGCI&S), the overall export of A g r i c u l t u r a l a n d P r o c e s s e d Fo o d Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) products has witnessed 21.8 percent growth in terms of USD during April-August 2021 over the same period of the previous year. The overall export of APEDA products increased from USD 6485 million in AprilAugust 2020 to USD 7902 million in AprilAugust 2021. This rise in exports has been achieved notwithstanding Covid-19 restrictions. The significant spike in agri-exports is seen as a testimony of the government’s commitment to increase farmers’ income through giving thrust on boosting exports

of agricultural and processed food products of the country. The huge jump in exports of agricultural and processed food products during the first five months of current fiscal is in continuation of growth in exports witnessed in the financial year 2020-21. According to WTO’s trade map, with the total agri-exports of USD 37 billion in the year 2019, India is ranked at 9th position in the world ranking. The export of rice, which recorded a positive growth of 13.7 percent, increased from USD 3359 million in April-August 2020 to USD 3820 million in April-August 2021. As per the Quick Estimates, the exports of fresh fruits & vegetables registered a 6.1 percent growth in terms of USD, while shipment of processed food products like cereals preparations and miscellaneous processed items reported a growth of 41.9 percent. In April-August 2020-21, fresh fruits and vegetables were exported to the tune of USD 1013 million which rose to USD 1075 million in AprilAugust 2021-22.

India reported a significant 142.1 percent jump in export of other cereals while the export of meat, dairy & poultry products witnessed an increase 31.1 percent in the first five months of the current fiscal (2021-22). The export of other cereals increased from USD 157 million in April-August 2020 to USD 379 million in April-August 2021 and the export of meat, dairy and poultry products increased from USD 1185 million in April-August 2020 to USD 1554 million in April-August 2021. The cashew export witnessed a growth of 28.5 percent in April-August 2021 as the export of cashew rose from USD 144 million in April-August 2020 to USD 185 million in April-August 2021. The initiatives taken by APEDA, which functions under the Ministry of Commerce, has helped the country achieve this milestone at a time when most of the business activities suffered a huge setback due to the restrictions imposed after the outbreak of second wave of the COVID19 pandemic.

ADB cuts India’s GDP growth forecast to 10 percent for FY21 MANILA: The Asian Development Bank recently cut India’s gross domestic product (GDP) growth forecast to 10% for FY21, from 11% projected in April, on account of disruptions due to the second wave. Growth projection for FY22 has been revised upwards to 7.5% from 7% forecast earlier. "The forecast, for the 12 months ending 31 March 2022, takes into account disruptions in economic activity caused by the second coronavirus disease (COVID19) pandemic wave, which adversely impacted services, domestic

consumption, and the urban informal sector," the multilateral lender said in a statement. The forecast for FY22 assumes a relatively limited economic impact from the pandemic going forward thanks to an accelerated vaccination campaign and better preparedness among businesses, households, and the health care sector. The Indian economy is showing encouraging signs of recovery as the effects of the second wave dissipate,” said ADB Country Director for India Takeo Konishi.

“The government’s vaccination drive, its new fiscal stimulus package, and initiatives to free more resources for infrastructure development, along with measures to strengthen health-related interventions, are helping speed up recovery.” The economy is projected to rebound in the last 3 quarters of FY2021, as reflected in improvements in electronic waybills, mobility data, and the purchasing managers’ index, it said. Firstquarter GDP rebounded 20.1% from a year earlier even as the second wave of the pandemic curbed economic activity.

India on track to achieve $400 billion export target this scal, says ofcial AHMEDABAD: Expressing confidence that India is on track to achieve its merchandise export target of $400 billion this financial year, a Central government official said on Tuesday the country has already clocked in $164 billion of exports in five months. “The government has embarked on an ambitious, but achievable target of $400 billion exports of merchandise goods in the current financial year. I am happy to report to you that our industry and exporters have responded wonderfully and we have reached record levels of export of almost $164 billion in the fivemonth period of April-August,” said S h y a m a l M i s r a , J o i n t S e c r e t a r y, Department of Commerce, while speaking at “Vanijiya Utsav”, an event organised by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) at Ahmedabad Management Association. “The buoyancy in exports and the

resilience shown by our major export products and our export markets give us hope that we are on track and will be able to reach the target of $400 billion by the end of this year,” Misra said at the event where Union Minister of State for R a i l w a y s a n d I n d u s t r y, D a r s h a n a Jardosh, was also present. The official noted that 60 per cent of India’s current exports are from engineering goods, gems and jewellery, pharmaceuticals, petroleum and chemicals. “We need to find new products and new destinations for our exports… Our exporters are urged to strengthen their partnership with MSMEs, farmers and fishermen, and promote our start-ups, too,” he added. Later, Union Minister Jardosh told media persons that the government does not impose any law on the citizens, but engages in a two-way talk to solve issues. When asked what steps the Centre was

taking to help textile exporters from Surat whose payment has got stuck after the Taliban government came to power in Afghanistan, the Minister replied, “We have inquired into it. The export orders (from Afghanistan) had got stuck. Nitin Gadkari emphasizes on fixing driving hours for truck drivers of commercial vehicles, calls for a policy at par with European standards NEW DELHI: Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Shri Nitin Gadkari has emphasised on deciding driving hours for tr uck drivers of commercial vehicles, similar to pilots, to reduce fatigue-induced road accidents. In a National Road Safety Council (NRSC) Meeting with the Non-Official Co-Opted Individual Members he directed officers to work on a policy to include On-Board Sleep Detection Sensors in Commercial Vehicles, at par with European standards. The minister directed the Council to meet in every two months and share their updates. Shri Gadkari said he would also write letters to CMs and Collectors to ensure that District Road Committee meetings happen regularly. The new NRSC was formed by the Ministry on 28.07.2021. The meeting was

attended by all the 13 NonOfficial Co-Opted Individual Members. Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways General V K Singh attended the meeting along with the senior officials of the Ministry. During the meeting, the Members made various important suggestions in the area of improvement of road safety. The Minister advised all the Members to work in diversified areas of road safety so that more lives can be saved on road and the Members have also been requested to share their experience to each other. He also directed the Ministry

officials to work in close coordination with the NRSC Members and implement their suggestions on priority. The achievements made in the areas of Road Safety would be brought out through a monthly magazine.

Adani Ports gets CCI nod for 10.4% stake acquisition in Gangavaram Port NEW DELHI: The Competition Commission of India (CCI) recently said it has approved Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd’s acquisition of 10.40 per cent stake in Gangavaram Port. “Commission approves proposed acquisition of 10.40 per cent equity shareholding of Gangavaram Port by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zones Ltd,” the fair trade regulator said in a tweet. In a combination notice filed with the

antitrust watchdog, Adani Ports had said it would acquire 10.40 per cent stake in Gangavaram Port Ltd from the Andhra Pradesh government. The Andhra Pradesh government has already approved the proposal of acquisition of 10.4 per cent stake in the port for Rs 644.78 crore, the Adani Group company had said in an exchange filing last month. “The acquisition is in line with company’s strategy of East Coast to West Coast parity and will provide an access to growth from new hinterland markets as it

has coverage in resource rich and industrial belt in eastern, central and southern India,” the company said. Adani Ports is a multi-port operator that provides integrated port infrastructure services. It is currently present across 11 domestic ports in six maritime states of Gujarat, Goa, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Odisha. Gangavaram Port handles various types of dry bulk and break bulk cargo. In FY21, the multi-cargo facility handled 32.81 MMT of cargo. It has a capacity of 64 MMT.

Exports of software services up 2.1% to $148.3 billion in 2020-21: RBI MUMBAI: India’s exports of software services (excluding exports through commercial presence) are estimated at USD 133.7 billion during 2020-21, registering 4.0 per cent growth over the previous year,” the RBI said. Software exports by foreign affiliates through commercial presence, where the US is a major destination, stood at USD 14.6 billion in 2020-21. “Total exports of software services, including services delivered by foreign affiliates of Indian companies, recorded 2.1 per cent growth during 2020-21 and stood at USD 148.3 billion,” it said. Computer services and ITES accounted for 65.3 per cent and 34.7 per cent, respectively, of the total software

services exports. BPO services were the dominant component of exports of IT enabled services (ITES). Also, over half of the exports of software services were made by private limited companies. “The United States was the major destination for software exports accounting for 54.8 per cent; Europe had 30.1 per cent share, nearly half of which was in the UK,” it said. The US dollar was the principal invoicing currency for software exports with 72 per cent share; euro and pound sterling together accounted for another 15.9 per cent. The RBI further said the share of mode-1 (cross-border supply) in India’s exports of software services increased

further to 78.4 per cent in 2020-21. This share has been increasing over the years, from 38.8 per cent in 2002-03 to 64.6 per cent in 2009-10 and further to 75.1 per cent in 2019-20, at the cost of the other three modes of delivery. The other three modes are — mode-2 (consumption abroad); mode-3 (commercial presence); and mode-4 (presence of natural persons). For the 2020-21 round of the survey, 6,115 software export companies were contacted, of which 1,815 companies responded, which included most of the large companies. The responding companies accounted for 86.5 per cent of the total software services exports during the year.

E-way GST bill generation picks up pace ahead of festive season NEW DELHI: Daily e-way bill generation for goods transportation under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) system came in at 22.71 lakh for the week ended September 19, up 10.4% over the daily average for the previous week, reflecting a pick-up in economic activity ahead of the festival season. The daily average for the first 19 days of September was 21.24 lakh, almost at par with the daily average (21.26 lakh) for August.

Going by the recent weekly trends, the daily average is expected to rise further for September when data for the full month is captured. Between September 1 and 19, as many as 4.04 crore e-way bills were generated. Thanks to the easing of lockdowns, e-way bill generation by businesses rose to 6.59 crore in August from 6.42 crore in July and 5.5 crore in June. The gross GST collections came in at

Rs 1.12 lakh crore in August (largely July transactions), up 30% on the year but down 3.8% on the month, signalling an ongoing economic recovery but suggesting that activities aren’t picking up evenly across sectors. GST collections, after posting above the Rs 1-lakh-crore mark for eight months in a row, had dropped below Rs 1 lakh crore in June 2021 due to the second wave of Covid-19.

Sugar export subsidy worth Rs. 1,800 cr cleared so far this season: Report NEW DELHI: The central government has cleared Rs. 1,800 crore in subsidy to mills so far for exporting a mandated quantity of 6 million tonnes of sugar in the 2020-21 seasonending this month. The government had to offer export subsidies during the last three seasons to reduce surplus stocks and help cash-strapped sugar mills make timely payments to sugarcane farmers. It offered subsidies for the export of a fixed quota of sugar.

“About Rs. 3,500 crore budget was allocated towards export subsidy for the ongoing season. Out of which, Rs. 1,800 crore has been spent on clearing the subsidy claims,” a senior food ministry official said recently. The rest of the allocated subsidy will be paid to mills soon, once the funds are released from the finance ministry, he added. The official said mills have already exported the entire quota of 6 million tonnes mandated for the 2020-21 season. They have

also exported sugar without subsidies taking advantage of the firm global trends. Exports were undertaken smoothly even as the government slashed subsidies on sugar exports for the current season from Rs. 6,000 per tonne to Rs. 4,000 per tonne because of firm international prices. On the pending subsidy claims of the 2019-20 season, the official mentioned that Rs. 5,000 crore subsidy claims were cleared so far. The balance of Rs. 1,200 crore will be paid to mills in the next two months.

Export promotion council for handicrafts urges govt to relook at rates of export promotion scheme RoDTEP NEW DELHI: Export promotion council for handicrafts (EPCH) on Monday urged the government to reconsider the rates of tax refunds under the export promotion scheme RoDTEP, as currently, it is only around 0.7 per cent for various products. In a meeting with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitahraman, EPCH Chairman Rajkumar Malhotra said he has raised the issue, among other matters. The other points flagged by him in the meeting include restoration of duty-free import of essential embellishment, trimmings and tools for handicrafts sector, and relook at the rates of Remission of

Duties; risky exporters; and Taxes on Exported Products (RoDTEP) scheme. The recently announced RoDTEP rates for various handicrafts product categories averaging around 0.7 per cent, he said while expressing hope that today’s meeting will help in resolving the issues of the sector. He said the provision of duty-free import has helped handicrafts exporters to import items for embellishing their goods like lighting, lamps, fashion jewellery, and wooden handicrafts. About risky exporters, the council has sought help from the Directorate General of Analytics and Risk Management (DGARM)

to facilitate exporters in getting their GST (Goods and Services Tax) refund. During 2020-21, India’s handicraft exports stood at Rs 25,679.98 crore (USD 3.5 billion). In August this year, the government announced rates of tax refunds under the export promotion scheme RoDTEP for 8,555 products, such as marine goods, yarn, and dairy items. The government has set aside Rs 12,454 crore for refunds under the scheme for the current fiscal. Under the RoDTEP, various central and state duties, taxes, and levies imposed on input products, among others, would be refunded to exporters.
