CCTA launches new website – https://ccta.co.in/ a step to provide a fair and uniform system to the trade MUMBAI: The Coastal Container Transporters Association (CCTA), an association for developing coastal container transport trade in India, has created a website – https://ccta.co.in/ CCTA endeavours to create a common platform for all interested Freight Forwarders and are putting efforts in making representations to the Government for the benefit of the fraternity. CCTA works as a bridge between members and other co-ordinates and helps its members to give a smooth platform. The President of CCTA Mr. Rahul Modi said that,
this web site can be considered as an encouraging as well as a new step in the container business, it is a disciplinary step that will provide a fair and uniform system to the trade. CCTA is represented on various trade bodies as well as committees Mr. Rahul Modi such as: National Shipping Board (NSB), Coastal coordination committee with INSA, Committee for Coastal container Trade in AIMTC and Committee for drafting of proposed Maritime Policy.
CBIC launches e-Office application NEW DELHI: Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Custom (CBIC) recently launched the e-Office application in over 500 CGST and Customs offices pan India. Over 50,000 officers and staff will use this application, making CBIC one of the largest Government departments to automate its internal office procedures. This office intends to facilitate a ‘Faceless, Contactless and Paperless’ indirect Tax administration. Launched by CBIC Chairman Shri M. Ajit Kumar, the e-Office application is developed by the NIC and is supported by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG). Cargo is being de-stuffed as soon as the containers arrive in the CFS, but
due to various reasons, customers have been unable to take deliveries during the first few weeks of the COVID-19 crisis. With warehouses being choked and not much evacuation, de-stuffing schedules had to be amended as per the requirements of customers’ urgency. At the Mumbai CFS, the team Mr. Adarsh Hegde ensures that all the equipment deployed at the CFS are up and running. The team makes necessary arrangements for crew movement, accommodation, food, etc. Similarly, the trailers’ operations team is efficiently managing the fleet to maintain 80% trailer fleet utilization. The team at ONGC shore-based operations put in place enhanced safety measures to safeguard the health of the personnel employed at the site. Allcargo’s shore-based team also offers amenities for staff deployed at Mumbai CFS and NSICT Port operations. The Mundra CFS team has been efficiently managing the incoming cargo volume. The maintenance team is ensuring all the equipment is up and running, reducing the breakdowns to a minimum. And, the team at Chennai CFS is ensuring all the comfort to the crew to help them work efficiently. Furthermore, the employees at the crane site locations decided to stay put at the worksites to manage and look after the cranes. Because of that, the cranes managed to resume work soon af ter the relaxation announced by the Government on certain infra segments. The project and equipment teams at the frontlines are bravely fighting the odds and moving ahead and delivering project cargo to the destinations. The teams are in progress to successfully manage and move refinery vessel products, stator and rotors, break-bulk shipments and more for some of the biggest market leaders in the industry. MOL and NW Innovation Works announce New Partnership TOKYO: Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL; President & CEO: Junichiro Ikeda) and Northwest Innovation Works, Kalama, LLC (NWIW; CEO: Simon Zhang) announced MOL will invest in NWIW and will provide and operate purpose-built next-generation ships to serve the planned methanol facility at the Port of Kalama in southwest Washington, USA. With the support of MOL, NWIW gains an experienced partner with global reach to better meet the growing demand for cleaner materials, as identified by the International Energy Agency and consistent with UN Sustainable Development Goals. The planned facility in Kalama will convert regionally sourced natural gas to methanol to be transported via ship for use in dedicated materials pathway production in Asia. The methanol will be used to produce materials, including olefins, the primary components in numerous products, including medical devices, such as masks, gowns, gloves, and eye protection, recreational equipment, clothing, cell phones, and furniture, among many other applications. Having over 740 ships in its fleet with a capacity of nearly 55,000,000 deadweight tons, MOL is one of the world’s largest shipping companies and methanol carriers. Partnering with NWIW at an early stage places
MOL in the best position to provide safe operation, service and solutions with the aim of achieving the highest levels of environmental benefits. By participating in this project, MOL will obtain a deeper knowledge of overall methanol activities, allowing the company to provide better services and solutions for its customers. This announcement furthers NWIW’s mission to produce the most environmentally sustainable and least carbon intensive industrial-scale methanol for clean essential materials. NWIW methanol will displace more carbon-intensive coal-based methanol, resulting in GHG reductions globally. In addition, NWIW will offset one hundred percent of its GHG emissions from both direct and indirect sources within Washington State. Beyond these and other environmental highlights, including using ultra-low-emissions and zero liquid discharge technologies, the facility will contribute substantial economic benefits to the local economy. The investment of well over $2 billion will result in over 1,000 new construction jobs and up to 200 permanent direct family-wage jobs, as well as providing $30 to $40 million in annual tax payments paid to state and local governments. Amidst the current global health pandemic, the project will support meaningful and unprecedented economic growth in SW Washington, USA.

DP World Cochin recovers fastest to record 59% growth COCHIN: Global logistics company, DP World operated International Container Transshipment Terminal (ICTT) at Cochin successfully handled over 42,000 TEUs along with 35 vessels in the month of May. The terminal has recorded an impressive growth of 59% over April, which is the highest amongst all the South Indian ports. The DP World Cochin terminal handled 1500 TEUs of rail volume as well in the month of May. The terminal has delivered an impressive five-fold increase in monthly rail volume in May, vis-à-vis the prelockdown monthly rail volume of slightly less than 300 TEUs. This growth is attributed to the terminal’s persistent efforts in maintaining the flow of goods, enabling smart solutions, and delivering world-class productivity. The terminal has continued to operate throughout the lockdown period keeping the productivity at par with global standards of 32 plus moves per hour. The terminal’s in-house developed Terminal Operating System – Zodiac, and RFID-based Automated Gate Management System enabled it to keep the Truck Turnaround Time at as low as 27 mins, which is one of the best amongst all the Indian Ports. During the lockdown period, DP World Cochin has been
successful in implementing 100% usage of electronic document transfer (DO/Form 13) for Coastal Import Laden Containers. This has been facilitated by Bharat Trade, a digital portal which enables smooth paperless transaction and offers a single window to customers and other stakeholders, as well as ensures digital exchange of data on real-time basis at the terminal. It assisted trade to virtually manage the delivery of cargo from the safety of their homes in a cost-effective manner. A.P. Moller – Maersk updates expectations to volumes and EBITDA for Q2 2020 COPENHAGEN: Based on the market development, combined with cost measures across the organisation and significant blanked sailings in Ocean, A.P. Moller – Maersk expects an EBITDA before restructuring and integration costs for Q2 2020 slightly above the level for Q1 2020 (USD 1.5bn). With the current trading, the market demand in the second quarter of 2020 is developing more favourable than originally expected with volumes downfall for A.P. Moller – Maersk now anticipated to be in the range of -15% to -18% for Q2 2020, compared to the initial guidance of -20% to -25%. Given the uncertainty on demand recovery in the second half of 2020 as economies are still impacted by COVID-19, the full-year guidance on earnings remains suspended.

The e-Office application’s main module, eFile, enables on-line file related work, starting from receiving and marking dak, operating a file, preparing a draft letter, its approval/signature and dispatch of the signed letter. The launch of e-Office marks a fundamental change in internal office procedures which is so far based on manual handling of files and paper movement. The CBIC expects e-Office would complement its many other IT-led reforms which are directly aimed at enhancing the ease of doing business for the trade and industry.
Railways offers discounts if customers book ‘round-trip’ freight haulage NEW DELHI: To boost its falling ear nings and compete with road transport, the Indian Railways has decided to offer discounts to customers who book ‘round-trips’ for freight haulage. Ministry of Railways writes to zonal managers, stating that the railways must start competing with road transports who offer round-trip discounts on goods. In a letter dated 5 June, the Ministry of Railways said: “An analysis of traffic moving by road has revealed that there are a number of flows which involve movement of such commodities that
can also move by rail.” The policy will be applicable from 1 July 2020 and remain valid for a year until 30 June 2021. “One of the reasons cited for traffic moving by road in origin-destinations served by Railways is that road hauliers offer customers a discount when traffic is assured in both directions. Given the fact that a considerable percentage of railways’ rakes run back empty after unloading, it is felt that railway should also incentivise/encourage round-trip traffic, and hence this policy,” the letter stated.
“In case any customer (consignor) commits to offer traffic in the right direction i.e. back to the originating station, either from the destination station or from any point within 200 km of the destination station, then traffic for both outward and return traffic shall be charged at lower of the applicable class rates amongst the outward and return direction traffic,” the ministry’s new scheme states. “This shall be subject to the condition that loading in return direction begins within 24 hours of the release of outward rake at its destination.”
Indian seafood export to pick up in the second half of 2020 feel experts KOCHI: Indian seafood industry expects the exports to pick up in the second half of the year with the increase in the import of shrimp broodstock. The broodstock import of Vannamei shrimp, the mainstay of $6.7 bilion Indian seafood export, was disrupted for several weeks due to Covid 19 lockdown. ``It has improved and we foresee a jump in export in the second half of 2020 like it happened in the previous year,’’ said Ravi Kumar Yellenki, president of Society of Aquaculture Professionals. After a decline in the first half of 2019, the seafood exports rose sharply towards the end of the year resulting in record shrimp production of over 800,000 tonnes. . China and the US bought substantial quantities of shrimp
from India in the last few months of the year, Yellenki said. `In April this year we had 25% increase in exports to the US with China also consuming higher quantities. But broodstock imports not being there for 50 days from March 22 to May 12 and the subsequent imports at 50% of normal may impact the export in June and July,’’ he said. He anticipates the shrimp production to be down by 10-15% down from last year because of a gap in broodstock imports, on which India is heavily dependent for shrimp aquaculture production. About 70% of the seafood export proceeds of the country are from shrimps. Overseas demand has picked up from last month but as most of the

Rules soon to block cheap imports from China, others: Ram Vilas Paswan NEW DELHI: The Government will soon announce regulations to block imports of cheap, sub-standard goods from China and other countries, while people should themselves boycott products shipped in from the hostile neighbour, food and consumer affairs minister Ram Vilas Paswan said. The minister said the government had strengthened the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).
New rules and regulations are being finalised to make sure that imported products abide by Indian norms for quality, he said. This will eliminate cheap, low-quality imports that are often clandestinely shipped in, he said. “In our Consumer Affairs Department, there is BIS which makes standards for 25,000 products. Now we have a new law. Its rules and regulations are in the last stage. When our goods
reach abroad, they are checked. Our Basmati rice exports can get rejected, but when their goods come to India, there is no strict quality control. Once the regulations are strictly implemented, sub-standard goods will stop coming in,” Paswan said. He said the new rules and regulations on quality were “almost ready ” but other sections of the Government were also involved.
