Majority of unused land with Major Ports to be used for industrialisation : Mansukh Mandaviya NEW DELHI: To propel port-led development, the Government will ensure industries are set up on a chunk of the 1.10 lakh hectares of land available with India's 12 Major Ports, Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said. Apart from this, plans are afoot to boost cargo handling, he said. "Major ports have among them about 1,10,000 hectare land. A chunk of this will be used for developing industries and industrialisation for port-led development in the country. We are in the process of identifying port-led industries,"
Minister of State for Shipping Mandaviya said recently. India has 12 Major Ports -- Deendayal, Mumbai, JNPT, Mormugao, New Mangalore, Cochin, Chennai, Kamarajar (Ennore), VO Chidambaranar, Visakhapatnam, Paradip and Kolkata (including Haldia) -- that handle about 61 per cent of the country's total cargo traffic. These 12 ports had handled 705 MT of cargo in the last financial year. Mandaviya said so far the ports' land was being utilised for earning rent. Cont’d. Pg. 15
Mundra Port emerges as Adani Logistics moves 1st Container Largest Container Port by vessel from India to Bangladesh Volumes in India during Q1 FY 21 through Inland Waterways AHMEDABAD: Mundra Port, India’s biggest commercial port by volumes and the flagship port of the Adani Group, has emerged as the largest container port in the country in the April-June quarter. Mundra handled 970,940 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) during first quarter of current fiscal year. “Our next goal is making Mundra the Largest Container Port in the world,” said Karan Adani, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ), the port operating unit of the Ahmedabad-based conglomerate Adani Group.
• Majority of current bilateral trade between India and Bangladesh is taking place through Land Custom Stations at Petrapole (India) and Benapole (Bangladesh). • This connectivity will help exporters/ importers from both the countries to safely ship their cargo throughout the year using inland water transport. Majority of unused land with Major Ports to be used for industrialisation : Mansukh Mandaviya Cont’d. from Pg. 1 "Land was used to get rent but earning money is not my work. My work is to generate employment, increase cargo and increase the indigenous production," the Minister said. Large portions of land belonging to major ports are under lease with various departments of the central and state governments. Interest and penal interest have been levied in cases of unpaid lease rentals, as per the annual report of the Shipping Ministry.
"The interest and penal interest over a period of time have increased quite substantially which is coming in the way of settlement of lease rent. In order to facilitate and expedite the recovery of these huge pending dues of Major Ports, Ministry of Shipping has issued 'One Time Settlement Scheme' for settlement of dues," it said. Terming port sector development crucial for economic growth, Mandaviya said a large number of steps have been
initiated for ports including capacity augmentation. "We have a coastline of 7,500 km which can be harnessed to fuel economic growth and employment," he said. Based on availability of land with the major ports, the Ministry of Shipping is developing various industrial zones. SEZ at JNPT (Rs 12,554 crore), Smart Industrial Port Cities (SIPCs) at Paradip (Rs 7,600 crore) and Kandla (Rs 11,147 crore) are under implementation, the annual report said.
Gandhidham Chamber has requested TAMP to reconsider the hike of Lease Rentals and formulate a New Land Policy GANDHIDHAM: At present, in light of the financial crisis caused by the current global epidemic, our Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendrabhai Modi, rolled out a Mega Relief Package to build a self reliant India and contra to the same Deendayal Port Trust has proposed increase in Lease Rental. In this regard the President of Gandhidham Chamber Shri Anil Kumar Jain wrote a letter to the Director, Tariff Authority of Major Ports, Mumbai. In this difficult time of global recessions and in turn Industry, Trading & all commercial activities are facing economic crisis, it is need of the hour to reduce Lease Rentals by 20-30% with the revision of the policy of Port Land. It has been requested by the Gandhidham Chamber to withdraw the proposal for any increase of Lease Rent and also revoke the defective classification of land with formulation of a new Land Policy.
It has been suggested to consider various factors while determining lease land rates. Many Lease holders such as PSU's who have been allotted land under the existing land policy have already vacated the lease land to the Port after suffering financial loss to the extend of 500% rate increase. The glaring example is of National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) which has smashed their storage tank and returned the vacant land to the Port to avoid further financial losses. In addition, the questions of the plot holders have not been taken into consideration while classifying the land and plots and the plot holders have been put in trouble due to any kind of baseless and unilateral classification and their proper hearing has not been conducted. The Chief Minister of Gujarat State has already announced to make land available a token price to attract industries and businesses from overseas countries like China. Even, the State High Power Committee headed by Dr. Shri
Hasmukh Adhia has also suggested to make Land available a cheaper rates. The letter further said that even in the recent public auctions conducted by DPT, no businessmen was interested due to very high and unreasonable rates with unilateral classification resulting the repetition of auction exercise. Further it has been suggested to call a meeting with concerned stake holders, rates should reconcile with State Government Rates of surrounding areas, land valuation should be based on State Government Guidelines and while fixing the rates, rational mechanism to be established with reasonable justifiable criteria to be considered. In view of the representation, considering all the factors and in support of the tireless efforts of the Central and State Government to stabilise the activities of trade and industry, The Gandhidham Chamber has requested the Director of TAMP to reconsider the hike of Lease Rentals and formulate a New Land Policy.
Trade with Bangladesh opens doors for India's non-basmati rice exports KOLKATA: The resumption of trade with Bangladesh through the West Bengal border has raised hopes among India’s non-basmati rice traders of getting fresh orders from the neighbouring country. Trucks carrying rice are currently going through the Petrapole-Benapole border, fulfilling orders which were placed prior to the Covid-19 outbreak. “Bangladesh largely buys nonbasmati rice. We have come to know
that Bangladesh will import rice from India this year,” said Vinod K aul, executive director, All India Rice E x p o r t e r s ’ A s s o c i a t i o n . “ We a r e getting in touch with the Indian embassy in Bangladesh and Bangladesh embassy in New Delhi to get a clearer picture on this issue.” India had exported 7,599,552.15 metric tonnes of non-basmati rice worth Rs 21,184.85 crore in 2018-19. Traders said
rice millers in Bangladesh were demanding high prices for rice that they would provide to the government warehouses. “Rice consumption has increased in Bangladesh as people are staying indoors due to the coronavirus outbreak. Eating out has stopped. This is increasing the demand for rice in the country. We are now fulfilling our old orders which are being sent to Bangladesh now,” said Suraj Agarwal, CEO, Tirupati Agri Trade.
Piyush Goyal to meet his US counterpart Wilbur Ross to revive bilateral talks NEW DELHI: India and the US will likely hold a meeting in a day or two to deepen bilateral trade, with commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal and US commerce secretary Wilbur Ross scheduled to join in for talks through a video conference, a source said recently. While an announcement of a limited trade deal, which has been in the works for a few months now, is unlikely at this stage as both the countries are still busy fighting the Covid-19 pandemic, the meeting comes at a crucial time when India is firming up a comprehensive strategy to target “non-essential” and sub-standard
imports, particularly from China. Before the pandemic, India had planned to wrap up the “limited” deal with the US first and then explore the feasibility of a broader free trade agreement (FTA) after the American presidential elections in November, sources had said earlier. But the pandemic seems to have delayed the plan. The India-US CEOs Forum is also expected to hold a meet on July 14 to further bolster their engagement, said the source. While there has been no official word on the meeting yet, Goyal recently said he could meet his American counterpart in the middle of July.
The meeting also comes close on the heels of the US launching a probe against India and nine others, including the EU and the UK, for imposing or considering a 2% digital services tax (equalisation levey) with potential to hurt American companies. India’s exports to the US, its largest market, touched $52.4 billion in 2018-19, while imports were to the tune of $35.5 billion. Its trade surplus with the US has been shrinking in recent years, as it has stated importing oil and gas from the largest economy, something that India has been highlighting in bilateral talks.

Since Customs had provided EDI, clearance should be done at Beypore and this will results affordable time and money for Exporters. Kerala Maritime Board also should take initiative for a regular updates and discussion with Cochin Port Trust and DP World so that in coming future, Sharjah and Omani Port Authorities had also agreed for a direct Vessel transshipment from Beypore together the entire shipment from Malabar Area can be routed from Beypore. Moreover many Keralites prefer to send LCL Cargo of their day to day foodstuffs and other personal effects for their dear and near getting a booster to Beypore Port.
India in talks with EU for Trade Deal, Open to pact with UK: Piyush Goyal NEW DELHI: India has started trade talks with the European Union (EU) and is open to dialogue with the United Kingdom for a free trade agreement, the trade minister said on Saturday, as the economy looks for new markets for its products. Piyush Goyal said that India is open to engage with the UK for a preferential trade agreement with the ultimate goal of a free trade agreement. He is also in dialogue with the European Union's trade commissioner for a deal that could start with a preferential trade agreement. He added that the ultimate goal too would be to have a
free trade agreement. "We're talking to the EU and I am in dialogue with the EU trade commissioner. I am looking for an early harvest deal. Open to discussions on a variety of subjects. It's up to the UK and EU whoever picks up the gauntlet first," Mr Goyal said. Negotiations for a comprehensive free trade agreement between the EU and India were suspended in 2013 after six years of talks. India pulled out of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership last year due to fears over China's access to its markets and is looking for new ways
to boost its exports. The country has also been raising trade barriers to block cheap imports from China and replace them with locally made goods for domestic consumption and exports. "Apart from pharmaceuticals, we have textiles, handicrafts, leather, furniture, industrial machinery, toys are areas where India can engage with UK & EU at competitive prices," Goyal said. India's economic growth has largely been driven by local consumption and successive governments have struggled to expand exports.
For the first time Indian Railways loads Special Parcel Train to Bangladesh NEW DELHI: For the first time the Indian Railways, loaded special Parcel train beyond the country borders to Benapole in Bangladesh with Dry Chillies from Reddipalem in Guntur District of Andhra Pradesh state. Guntur and its surrounding areas in the state of Andhra Pradesh are well known for Chillies cultivation. The quality of this farm produce is internationally renewed for its uniqueness in taste and brand. Earlier, the farmers and merchants in and around Guntur area have been transporting Dry Chillies by road to Bangladesh in small quantities and that was costing around Rs 7000 per tonne. During the lockdown period, they could not move this essential commodity by Road. Then Railway staff and Officials approached the consignors and explained the facilities to transport by Rail. Accordingly, they have moved the Dry Chillies by Rail in bulk through goods
trains. But for moving the consignment by Goods trains, it is mandatory for the farmers and merchants to mobilise the quantity in bulk i.e. at least more than 1500 tonnes in each trip. To mitigate this problem and to facilitate the Rail users to move their quantities in smalls i.e., up to a maximum of 500 tonnes in each trip, Guntur Division of South Central Railway took the initiative and moved the Special Parcel Express to Bangladesh. This has helped the farmers and merchants of Guntur to market their farm produce beyond the country border by transporting the Dry Chillies in small quantities through Special Parcel Express. Accordingly, one Special Parcel Express train consisting of 16 Parcel Van moved to Benapole in Bangladesh. Each Parcel Van was loaded with 466 Dry Chillies bags, weighing around 19.9 Tonnes and the total weight carried by the Special Parcel Express is around 384
Tonnes. The cost per tonne for carrying by Special Parcel Express is Rs. 4,608 and which is very cheap and economical as compared to Road transport which is amounting to Rs. 7,000 per tonne. It may be noted that Indian Railways has taken a series of steps to boost parcel train traffic during the Covid period. Transportation of essential items like medical supplies, medical equipment, food, etc in small parcel sizes are a very important items that needed for business as well as consumption purposes. In order to fill in this vital need, Indian Railways has made railway parcel vans available for quick mass transportation by E-Commerce entities and other customers including State Governments. Railways has been running time-tabled Parcel Special trains on select routes, to ensure uninterrupted supply of essential items. The total of 4434 parcel trains have run 22.03.2020 till 11.07.2020,out of which 4,304 have been time-tabled trains.
Shrimp exports to US decline by 58% in May NEW DELHI: Shrimp exports to the US for May are seen lower by 58% year-onyear at 8,600 tonne, according the latest data of the US agency, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. During May 2019, India exported 20,391 tonne of shrimps to the US. In April 2020, exports stood at 22,229 tonne, against 17,749 tonne in April 2019. India is the largest producer of farmed shrimps in the world and accounts for nearly 6% of global fish production. During 2019, India accounted for 282,584 tonne of
shrimps from the total US import of 698,445 tonne. Total US imports in May showed a decline to 37,814 tonne, from 53,580 tonne in May 2019. The US is currently the largest buyer of Indian seafood, followed by China. During initial days of the lockdown, the Indian seafood sector was working at 2 0 - 2 5 % c a p a c i t y, w i t h m o s t o f t h e laboratories remaining closed. Labor and vehicle movements were also constrained in most of the coastal states. The Marine Products Export
Development Authority has reported that in the initial period of lockdown, there was 30-40% reduced stocking of shrimps by farmers. However, now the situation is improving. According to the government data, seafood exports during 2019-20 are seen at Rs 47,618 crore in value terms, a decline of 0.1% Y-o-Y. In dollar terms, the decline is 1.2% at $6,722 million in 2019-20, against $6,802 million in 2018-19. During the last fiscal, import of marine grew 18.6% to touch Rs 1,290 crore.

Cont’d. from Pg. 1 T h e b a r g e “MV Pruthvi” carrying 45 TEUs (about 1,250 MT) of sponge iron was flagged off on 30th June 2020 from Haldia Docks for its maiden voyage from Haldia to Dhaka on Indo Bangladesh Protocol Route (IBPR). Post receipt of its Let Export Order, the barge sailed on 5th July 2020 from Haldia and completed its voyage in 7 days. Adani Logistics Limited in association with Five Star Logistics Private Limited is moving this first consignment of Rashmi Cement Ltd. and Orissa Metaliks Pvt. Ltd. The India-Bangladesh Protocol on Inland Water Trade and Transit (PIWTT) was signed in 1972 to allow free movement of goods between India and Bangladesh through specified routes linking domestic cargo movement between West Bengal, Assam and Tripura via Bangladesh as well as export-import cargo movement from India to Bangladesh. Government of India in recent years has strongly supported the development and commercialization of Inland Waterways in India. Strengthening of PIWTT from time to time by both India and Bangladesh clearly indicates the vision for future trade between these two countries as well as to North Eastern States. The success of landmark container export cargo consignment has provided importers and exporters of India and Bangladesh an alternative to roadways and railways. Currently, majority of the exports and imports through West Bengal region to Bangladesh is taking place through Pe t r a p o l e ( I n d i a ) a n d B e n a p o l e (Bangladesh). In fact, Petrapole is one of the largest Land Customs Station (LCS) in Asia handling a trade of more than US$ 2.5 billion. “Since last year, our team is working on offering commercially viable logistics
solutions using Inland Waterways. Previously, we have successfully completed the domestic containerized movement between Haldia - Patna on NW1 and Haldia – Guwahati on NW2 (using IBPR). The success of containerized movement from Haldia to Guwahati on NW2 (using IBPR) has generated keen interest with the importers/ exporters of both India and Bangladesh to extend its usage for Export Import cargo movement. One vessel movement is equivalent to 64 or more trucks. Thus Inland Waterways provides a competitive alternative to current road based movement of goods through Petrapole ICP. Containerized movement of sponge iron is a safer alternative as compared to carrying the cargo in bulk/break bulk which has also been appreciated by industry.” said Capt. Anil Kishore Singh, CEO – Inland Waterways of Adani Logistics. Pre COVID-19 lockdown, the ICP at Pe t r a p o l e u s e d t o h a n d l e a b o u t 500-550 trucks from India and about 100-150 trucks from Bangladesh every day. Bulk commodities such as Fly Ash, Stone Aggregates, and Project Cargo etc. are already being moved from India to Bangladesh using inland waterways. Containerized cargo movement is an essential addition for making inland waterways an eligible
candidate for high value goods too. Though both India and the Bangladesh Governments has identified Petrapole – Benapole land border stations as key export-import gateway for bilateral trade and are working together to provide every possible infrastructure. Ms. Riva Ganguly Das, High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh welcomed the movement of first containerized cargo export from India to Bangladesh using Inland waterways. She said that “India and Bangladesh had recently signed the 2nd Addendum to Protocol on Inland Water Trade and Transit on 20th May 2020 which included two new routes, five new Ports of Call and two extended Ports of Call including Summit Alliance Port Limited (SAPL), Mukhtarpur in Bangladesh. Connectivity provided by the existing and the newly added protocol routes provides excellent opportunity for expansion of our bilateral trade besides which, in the present Covid-19 scenario it provides economical, faster and safer mode of transport for business communities of both the countries and will also have environmental benefits for the region.”

Record uptake for Maersk’s mobile app in India amidst COVID-19 pandemic Accelerating digital transformation, Maersk’s user-friendly and customer oriented mobile app witnesses highest usage amongst customers in India MUMBAI: As the COVID-19 pandemic affected the whole world and social distancing became a norm, accelerating digital transformation became every business’ top priority. With most of the workforce remotely working from home to contain the pandemic, digital platforms and solutions gathered unprecedented uptake. Maersk’s mobile application that allows its customers to book cargo, get instant confirmations, track shipments and carry out a host of other actions from the convenience of their remote locations, witnessed large scale adoption in the last few months. With over 4,000 users, India topped the charts globally amongst the countries where Maersk’s customers are actively using the mobile app. Over 1.8 million actions by customers were recorded on the app in the second quarter of 2020 (April to June). These were more than double of those recorded in the first quarter of 2020 (January to March). These include any action performed by users on the app like booking, tracking, checking schedules, live support etc. “As the pandemic spread across geography, our, as well as most of our customers’ operations, shifted bases to their employees’ homes. It then became imperative for the customers to adopt the digital tools for carrying out businesses from the comforts of their homes. Having invested in digital transformation over the last few years, we could provide this immediately to our customers” said Steve Felder, Managing Director Maersk South Asia.” Deeper analysis of the activities shows that ‘Maersk Spot’-related searches grew 10-fold during second quarter of 2020. Maersk Spot is a digital solution offered for customers transacting on short-term contracts which revolves around guaranteed loading for customers’ cargo and transparent upfront pricing. Customers booking cargo on Maersk Spot also get
benefits of hinterland coverage either by road or rail as well value-added services such as Maersk Value Protect and Customs House Brokerage. “During the last few months, we have seen that almost 80% of our customers in India, who are transacting on short term contracts have started using the Maersk Spot digital solution. CMA CGM launches new Round The Africa service MARSEILLE: CMA CGM has introduced its new product Round The Africa (RTA) service in complement of the current existing 31 services to Sub-Saharan Africa, aiming to improve its service offer to West Africa strategic markets. Round The Africa provides direct connections from Asia to Senegal and Sierra Leone. The French carrier says Dakar is served weekly from Ningbo in 35 days and from Nansha in 32 days, while Freetown is reached in 35 days from Nansha. In addition, the service offer to Tema is improved with three weekly departures. The new service also provides a direct service to China, with Shanghai to be reached in 29 days from Abidjan, 31 days from Tema, 36 days from Freetown and 39 days from Dakar. CMA CGM will deploy 11 vessels of 4,200TEU nominal
capacity and the first ship on the service will start its journey on 25 July from Shanghai. The rotation of Round The Africa: Shanghai – Ningbo – Nansha – Singapore – Malta – Tanger – Dakar – Freetown – Tema – Abidjan – Port Kelang – Shanghai.
Wan Hai and Interasia Lines launch new intra-Asia service TAIPEI: Wan Hai and Interasia Lines will launch a new joint service, which will connect Taiwan to Vietnam and Thailand, under the name TVT (Taiwan – Vietnam – Thailand). Each carrier will deploy one 1,200TEU container vessel on the TVT service, which will run on 14 days round trip with the following port rotation: Taipei – Taichung – Cat Lai, Ho Chi Minh – Bangkok – Laem Chabang – Taipei. The maiden voyage will commence from Taipei on 24 July 2020.
Wan Hai has announced that its current KVS service will add Kaohsiung call from 23 July in order to optimise its service coverage. KVS service’s new port rotation: Incheon – Kwangyang – Busan – Ulsan – Taipei – Taichung – Kaohsiung –Cat Lai, Ho Chi Minh – Port Kelang (North Port) –Port Kelang (West Port) –Cat Lai, Ho Chi Minh – Kaohsiung –Taichung – Taipei – Incheon TVT service will be the forth string service, which connects Taiwan and Ho Chi Minh and the third string service, which connects Taiwan and Thailand, according to Wan Hai. In May Wan Hai and Interasia re-launched its China – Vietnam – Thailand service with their partner Sealand.
