V I S A K H A PAT N A M : Fe d e r a t i o n o f Fr e i g h t Forwarders Associations in India (FFFAI) celebrated its 59th Foundation Day and ushered in its Diamond Jubilee Year on December 2, 2021 during its 2nd Executive Committee Meeting held in Visakhapatnam. Mr K Rama Mohana Rao – IAS, Chairman, V i s a k h a p a t n a m Po r t Tr u s t i n a u g u r a t e d t h e 59th Foundation Day celebration and launch of Diamond Jubilee programme. Mr Shankar Shinde – Chairman, FFFAI welcomed Mr Rao and other dignitaries who graced the occasion. The event was attended by all Office Bearers, EC Members and Board of Advisors from across the country. The event was also attended and addressed by several Customs and other Government officials. Mr. BAV Srinivas, IRS, Commissioner of Customs, appreciated FFFAI’s partnering with Government of India and initiatives to facilitate the trade. He welcomed FFFAI to Visakhapatnam and was happy to note the milestone achieved by FFFAI and support to strengthen 28 Customs Brokers Associations. Shri M Shrikanth, IRS, Jt. Commissioner of Customs during his address acknowledged the Customs Brokers contribution to facilitate the Export Import trade partnering with Customs. He also mentioned that the CBs should initiate the IT skill development in their role of facilitation measures. Dr P.K. Gupta, Registrar, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) and Dr. Nitin Seth from IIFT were also present during the event, addressed the audience and acknowledge the efforts taken by FFFAI in Logistics Sector and consented to sign an MoU between FFFAI and Centre for Trade Facilitation & Logistics (CTFL), on various researches in logistics sector with FFFAI’s presence at 28 locations in India. On this occasion, Mr. Shankar Shinde – Chairman FFFAI appealed to all the logistics service providers to be part of FFFAI. He stated that FFFAI welcomes all Logistics Service Providers (LSPs) in Export Import trade to be part of FFFAI Membership on the eve of the Diamond Jubilee to have single voice of the Logistics sector. New Initiatives Several new initiatives were also announced by FFFAI at this event, which were as mentioned below: • FFFAI unveiled its Diamond Jubilee Logo, Flag and Calendar (Picture-2-caption-Launch of Diamond Jubilee Logo and Flag)

• FFFAI launched its Diamond Jubilee News LetterFFFAI Bulletin (Picture-3-caption-Launch of FFFAI Newsletter) • FFFAI signed MoU with Logistics Sector Council (LSC) on Skill Development • FFFAI announced the ‘Young Forwarders Award 2022’ • IIFF (Education Wing of FFFAI) launched: • I I F F- F I ATA D i p l o m a C o u r s e i n F r e i g h t Forwarding • Course for Examination under Rule 6 of Custom FFFAI Chairman Mr Shankar Shinde felicitating Dr. Pramod Sant, Head-Import, Export & Customs, SIEMENS Ltd Broker Licensing Regulations At this event FFFAI has also announced that the FFFAI Convention will be held from July 7 to 9, 2022 in Chennai. While making this announcement, Immediate Past Chairman, FFFAI Mr AV Vijayakumar appealed to all LSPs to participate in the FFFAI Biennial Convention. Knowledge Session A Knowledge Session for the Members was also organsied by FFFAI, where Dr. Pramod Sant, Head-Import, Export & Customs, SIEMENS Ltd. made a presentation on ‘Customs Brokers New Opportunities’ which was much appreciated. In his presentation he FFFAI Office Bearers and Dignitaries on dais during the Valedictory Session emphasised on Changes in Business Environment; Impact on Customs Brokers; Opportunities and Way Forward. The event concluded with a Valedictory Session which was addressed by Mr Durgesh Kumar Dubey, IRTS Deputy Chairman of Visakhapatnam Port Trust. FFFAI is the Apex Body and the Sole Representative of 28 Member Associations from all over India representing 6500 Customs Brokers and employing over 1,00,000 people controlling ninety per cent of India’s International Logistics Trade. FFFAI plays a prominent and significant role in Mr Durgesh Kumar Dubey, IRTS - Deputy Chairman of Logistics. It is the only association in the Logistics Industry which has a representation on National Visakhapatnam Port Trust addressing at the Valedictory Session Committee on Trade Facilitation (NCTF) constituted by the Government of India. FFFAI is also consulted on policies and initiatives of the Government with regard to Finance, Commerce and Logistics and has representation on various forums constituted by the Government for this purpose, such as Customs Consultative Group, SCOPE (Air), SCOPE (Shipping), etc. FFFAI is a member of International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA), International Federation of Custom Brokers Association (IFCBA) and has representation on various committees of these Launch of FFFAI Calendar associations.

Set up at the Allcargo Logistics’ 1.8-million sq. ft. logistics park at Farukh Nagar, the state-of-the-art, tech-driven STC will offer customers the added advantages of optimized supply chains, reduced dwell times and access to all major National Highways and seamless connectivity into the country’s hinterlands. Gati-KWE plans to set up five more similar STCs at Mumbai, Nagpur, Indore, Bengaluru and Hyderabad in the near future. Our focus is very firmly on delivering exceptional customer experience and this phase of modernising our infrastructure will go a long way in ensuring the same. This facility will ensure we offer our customers across North India significantly improved transit times, while simultaneously being located so we don’t congest the NCR region any further with our line haul movements. With a co-located Gati Nivas - as we call our

company provided staff quarters - and several technology and automation pilots we are running, Farukhnagar exemplifies the future of Gati.” said Mr. Pirojshaw Sarkari Chief Executive Ofcer - Gati Limited. Gati-KWE’s STC will offer customers the key advantage of speedier freight movement and lower dwell time by facilitating express trucking routes and enabling short-haul cargo transport from the Farukh Nagar STC to Delhi/NCR and entire North India. A tech-driven infrastructure ably supported by automated and paperless processes has enhanced the ability of the STC to process cargo loads of around 1000 trucks per day. The facility also has a throughput capacity of over 15,000 tonnes with the ability to scale up and daily package volume capacity of over 600,000 tonnes. This has enabled Gati-KWE to focus on minimizing transit times between far south and north-east regions of the country to North India. An AI-powered round-the-clock tracking system will enable customers to have access to real-time updates and forecasts facilitating the unloading and sorting of cargo in a timely and convenient manner. Leveraging the potential of deep analytics will help in guiding trucks to ply on the best possible routes while entering the STC and leaving it to make last-mile deliveries within specified timelines. The express logistics customers of Gati-KWE can get regular cargo movement updates and raise queries on a user-friendly digital interface offered by the STC. Truck drivers can avail of essential amenities like washrooms, rest areas and cafeterias at the facility. Committed to environmental sustainability and resource conservation, the STC has been designed by GatiKWE to comply with green norms. The facility has incorporated eco -friendly practices like rainwater harvesting, achieving energy efficiency by using natural light to the maximum extent and economizing of resources.

MoS Commerce highlight Criteria under ODOP to boost exports NEW DELHI: The Minister of State in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Shri Som Parkash, informed the Rajya Sabha that Central Government has initiated the One District One Product (ODOP) in different States/UTs of the c o u n t r y. O D O P i s s e e n a s a transformational step towards realizing the true potential of a district, fuelling economic growth, generating employment and rural entrepreneurship, taking us to the goal of Aatmanirbhar Bharat. ODOP initiative is operationally merged with ‘Districts as Export Hub’ (DEH) initiative of the DGFT, Department of Commerce, with the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) as a major stakeholder. Under the DEH initiative, products and services with export potential have been identified in all district of the country on the basis of consultation with the States/UTs and other stakeholders in the district. The list of identified products and

services is regularly updated on the basis of inputs received from States/UTs. The data with respect to employment generation and investments attracted by the districts under ODOP initiative is not maintained centrally. Under Districts as Export Hubs initiative, Institutional mechanisms in the form of State Export Promotion Committees (SEPCs) and District Export Promotion Committees (DEPCs) have been constituted in all the 36 States/UTs to provide support for export promotion and address the bottlenecks for export growth in the districts. Districts Export Action Plans focus on identification of products and services for overseas markets, which include specific actions required to support local exporters/manufacturers in producing/manufacturing identified products in adequate quantity and with the requisite quality, for reaching potential buyers outside India, identifying and

addressing challenges for exports of the such identified products/ser vices, improving supply chains, market accessibility and handholding for increasing exports. Districts Export Action Plans also design the strategies to promote export of the identified products and services in the districts. The plans include specific actions required to support local exporters/manufacturers in producing/manufacturing identified products in adequate quantity and with the requisite quality, for reaching potential buyers outside India. The plans also focus on the interventions required to provide ecosystem for innovation/ use of technology at the district level to make them export competitive. These plans also include identifying and addressing challenges for exports of such identified products/services, improving supply chains, market accessibility and handholding for increasing exports.

Duty-free access sought from UAE for Eggs, Textiles, Spices NEW DELHI: India has sought dutyfree market access for its spices, eggs, cheese and textiles in the UAE as part of the free-trade agreement it is negotiating with the grouping. At present, the UAE has banned poultr y imports from India due to concerns over bird flu while India's textile exports are levied a 5% duty. " We a r e k e e n t o s e l l p o u l t r y products to the UAE and are hopeful they will allow imports from India,

starting with eggs as eggs are a big market there," said an official, adding that India has assured that it is following the biosafety norms set by the World Organization for Animal Health to prevent infection. As per the official, the UAE is keen to get duty concessions for dates, confectionery and sugar-based products. India is keen to get duty-free access for its fresh and frozen bovine meat, cheese, spices, certain organic chemicals and

paper products. It has identified 1,100-odd products including washing machines, ACs, refrigerators, spices, tobacco, cotton fabrics, textiles and leather whose exports it wants to increase through the pact. " Po l i t i c a l l y, t h i s a g r e e m e n t i s important as Pakistan was insisting the UAE to not ink any pact with India but the UAE has ignored it," said a trade expert, adding that India stands to gain in services and could push for long-term business visas with the UAE.

FFFAI invites applications from Young Entrepreneurs for nomination to ‘FIATA YIFF Awards’ MUMBAI: With an objective to promote young Entrepreneurs / For warders / L o g i s t i c s Professionals, the Federation of Freight For warders Associations in India (FFFAI) is inviting applications from the Members of FFFAI Association Members (within the age group between 18 and 32 years as on January 1, 2021) to participate in the ‘FIATA Young International Freight Forwarder of The Year Award’. The award demonstrates recognition by FFFAI, FIATA and its participating sponsors of the need to develop quality in the forwarding industry and to reward young talent with valuable training opportunities. To participate in the nomination process pertaining to the awards, the candidates should have two years full time experience in Freight Forwarding, should submit the dissertation on the topic stipulated by FIATA, and should fulfil the condition stipulated in the registration form. The dissertation is an opportunity for the candidate to demonstrate a range of skills and qualities that are needed to pursue a successful career in international forwarding and supply chain logistics. Indian economy likely to grow 9% next fiscal: Credit Suisse MUMBAI: Swiss brokerage Credit Suisse expects the economy to continue to show positive surprises and record up to 9 per cent growth in the next fiscal. For the current financial year too, the brokerage anticipates growth to be higher than the consensus forecast of 8.4-9.5 per cent, and printing in at around 10.5 per cent. As a policy, Credit Suisse does not provide absolute growth numbers in its forecast. However, an extrapolation of data available and projections indicate that economic growth could clip 9 per cent in 2022-23 period, which according to the brokerage is up to 400 basis points (bps) over the consensus numbers.

Neelkanth Mishra, the co-head of equity strategy for Asia Pacific and India equity strategist at Credit Suisse, told PTI that he expects meaningful upgrades to the GDP forecast as the economic recovery has surprised positively. “We expect GDP getting an upgrade of 4 percentage points over the consensus for FY23 as output should get closer to the pre-pandemic trend than what is currently forecast. “The economy is expected to continue to show positive surprises even though the recovery has so far been lop-sided but in the next three-six months most of low-income jobs should

recover too,” Mishra said. While warning that high energy prices could be a headwind, Mishra said the economy has the capacity to sustain faster import growth. The pace of growth might moderate if imported energy prices (crude oil, gas, coal, fertiliser and palm oil) remain high. According to him, other positives for higher growth is the recovery in consumer spending, strong equity fundraising that has helped repair the risk capital that was lost during the pandemic, growing IT demand globally and the resultant around 5 lakh hiring in the offing and the pick up in dwelling construction.

Exports rise 44.2% in 1st week of Dec (YoY), Imports up 45.3% NEW DELHI: India's outbound goods shipments rose 44.24% yearon-year in the first week of December, led by a jump in exports of petroleum products, gems and jewellery and engineering goods. Merchandise exports were $8.5 billion during December 1-7, while imports rose at a faster pace at $14.14 billion netting a trade deficit of $5.64 billion in the week, a government source said.

The US, Australia and the Netherlands were the top destinations of India's goods but those to China, Saudi Arabia and Tanzania declined. Imports rose 45.3% year-on-year in the week ended December 7, the person quoted above said. Exports, excluding petroleum, rose 28.55% on-year and by 28.36% over the same period of FY20 while imports excluding petroleum were up 34.61% over the corresponding period last year

and up 51.66% as against December 1-7 2019-20. "Imports from the US, UAE and China saw the highest increases. Among products, petroleum, coal and chemical imports rose the most," the person added. Transport equipment and pulses imports declined in the first week. Non-oil and non-gems and jewellery imports rose 36.36% in the first week of December.

Adani Ports reverses Decision to stop handling cargo from Iran, Afghanistan And Pakistan AHMEDABAD: Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) has withdrawn its decision to stop handling export-import containerised cargo originating from Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan at its ports that took effect from November 15. T h e m o v e f o l l o w e d representations from terminal operators, customs broker associations, vessel operators and

importers to review the advisory issued on October 11, APSEZ said. “ U p o n c a r e f u l s c r u t i n y, t h e discussions and the assurances from the concerned stakeholders regarding adherence to due compliances and with a view to ensure seamless trade, the advisory is hereby withdrawn with immediate effect,” APSEZ said in a trade advisory issued on December 8. India’s biggest private port operator

has come under pressure from government authorities to scrap the advisory that was issued in the wake of a huge heroin haul at Mundra port in Gujarat in September. On November 10, the Customs Department asked APSEZ to “reexamine” its decision to stop handling export-import containerised cargo originating from Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan at its ports.

Forex reserves decline $ 1.783 bn to $ 635.905 bn MUMBAI: India’s foreign exchange reser ves declined for the second consecutive week, ending USD 1.783 billion down at USD 635.905 billion for the week ended December 3, RBI data showed on Friday. In the previous week, the reserves had slid by USD 2.713 million to USD 637.687 billion.

In the reporting week ended December 3, the dip in the forex kitty was mainly on account of a decline in foreign currency assets (FCA), a major component of the overall reserves. The FCA dropped by USD 1.483 billion to USD 573.181 billion in the reporting week, the data showed. Gold reserves were down by USD

407 million to USD 38.418 billion. The special drawing rights (SDRs) with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) were up by USD 90 million to USD 19.126 billion. The country’s reserve position with the IMF also increased by USD 17 million to USD 5.18 billion in the reporting week, as per the data.

PM Modi could announce India-UAE CEPA in Jan during proposed UAE trip NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi could announce India’s Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with the UAE during his proposed visit to the Gulf country early January. The India-UAE CEPA negotiations have entered the final stage. Both sides are expected to finalise the proposals by this Friday and are giving final touches to the document. Modi is expected to announce the CEPA, India’s first in the Gulf region, during his proposed visit to the UAE. In fact, this would be India’s maiden CEPA with a key economy in recent times. New Delhi expects also to finalise a free-trade agreement with Israel next year and has expedited negotiations with Australia

for the trade pact. An early harvest trade deal with the UK could be concluded next spring. The potential benefits from the India-UAE CEPA include an agreement for labour-intensive industries and this will also entail numerous complementary spill-over economic benefits, including increased investments, job creation and employment opportunities. Recently Commerce and Industries Minister Piyush Goyal met representatives of aluminium, copper, chemicals and petrochemicals industries as part of the ongoing multistakeholder consultations related to the negotiations for the India-UAE CEPA.

MoS Commerce highlights initiatives taken to boost MSME exports NEW DELHI: The Minister of State in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Smt. Anupriya Patel recently informed the Parliament that details of percentage share of value of exports of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) related products in India’s total exports during last three years and current year are as follows :

The Government has undertaken several initiatives to promote and diversify exports from the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector which include: i. Establishment of 52 Export Facilitation Centers (EFCs) across the country with an aim to provide requisite mentoring and handholding support to MSMEs in exporting their products and services to the foreign market. ii. Establishment of 102 Enterprise Development Centers (EDCs) with the aim to build a network of entrepreneurial leaders by providing professional mentoring and handholding support services to existing as well as aspiring MSMEs with special focus on rural enterprises on continuous basis. These EDCs act as “One-stop-shop” and provide ser vices under components including Awareness, Incubation, Enterprise Facilitation etc. iii. International Cooperation Scheme for enhancing the marketability of products and services in the MSME sector. Under the scheme, organizations are facilitated for visit /participation of MSMEs in international exhibitions /trade fairs/buyer-seller meet etc. abroad and also holding International conferences/seminars/ workshops in India, for technology infusion, exploring business opportunities, joint ventures etc. iv. A comprehensive B2B Portal-MSME Mart has been introduced, which is a one stop digital solution to all business needs of MSMEs and aims towards providing next generation services to MSMEs and make them competitive in a global market. v. Enhance competitiveness through Cluster Development Programme for enhancing the productivity and competitiveness as well as capacity building of Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) to increase demand of domestic products in global markets. vi. A network of MSME Technology Centres (TCs) have

been established which offer technological support and consultancy services to MSMEs. TCs are aligned to provide high end skill development training to provide industry ready manpower. vii. Financial support provided under International Cooperation (IC) Scheme for Technology infusion and/or up-gradation of micro, small and medium enterprises, their modernization and promotion of their exports through participation in international exhibitions/trade fairs etc. viii. Based on Mid-term Review of the FTP 2015-20 undertaken on 5th December, 2017, incentives for labour intensive / MSME sectors were increased. ix. Foreign Trade Policy (2015-20) extended by one year i.e. upto 31-3-2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation. x. Assistance provided through several schemes to promote exports, namely, Trade Infrastructure for Export Scheme (TIES) and Market Access Initiatives (MAI) Scheme. xi. A Central Sector Scheme –‘Transport and Marketing Assistance for Specified Agriculture Products’–for providing assistance for the international component of freight to mitigate the freight disadvantage for the export of agriculture products. xii. Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products (RoDTEP) scheme and Rebate of State and Central Levies and Taxes (RoSCTL) Scheme have been launched with effect from 01.01.2021. xiii. Common Digital Platform for Certificate of Origin has been launched to facilitate trade and increase FTA utilization by exporters. xiv. A comprehensive “Agriculture Export Policy” to provide an impetus to agricultural exports related to agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry, fisheries and food processing sectors, is under implementation. xv. Promoting and diversifying services exports by pursuing specific action plans for the 12 Champion Services Sectors. xvi. Promoting districts as export hubs by identifying products with export potential in each district, addressing bottlenecks for exporting these products and supporting local exporters/manufacturers to generate employment in the district. xvii. Active role of Indian missions abroad towards promoting India’s trade, tourism, technology and investment goals has been enhanced. xviii. Package announced in light of the covid pandemic to support domestic industry through various banking and financial sector relief measures, especially for MSMEs, which constitute a major share in exports. Certain sectors like Steel, Pharma and Chemicals have not been provided support under RoDTEP Scheme on account of budgetary considerations.

Unique collaboration adds momentum to the Antwerp North heat network ANTWERP: In the port of Antwerp, several partners are working together on the first open access heat network in Belgium. Initially, Indaver and Port of Antwerp will provide a core network for industry, after which Fluvius will link up with a residential heat network on behalf of the city of Antwerp. To make heat networks economically viable, agreements with major suppliers and customers are necessary. The latter is now covered by the long-term agreements concluded by Indaver and Port of Antwerp with Boortmalt and by Fluvius with Woonhaven for the supply of heat. Heat network to reduce CO2-emissions in Antwerp by 80.000 tons per year The Antwerp North Heat Network underwent a long preparation phase before a final investment decision was made. The benefits for people and society are huge. When fully constructed, this heat network will be capable of delivering an annual CO2 saving of 80,000 tonnes. That is as much CO2 as 12,500 Antwerp households emit in a year. When Boortmalt and Woonhaven are connected, the heat network will immediately achieve an initial reduction of 35,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.In the future, no less than three thousand households, 7 schools and several public buildings will receive their heat from a heat network fed by residual heat from industry. To make heat networks possible, contracts with industrial customers are a particular asset. Large players ensure that plenty of useful heat is also purchased outside the 'heating season', which makes for better use of the heat network. Investment support from the Flemish government also makes it possible to build this network. The ultimate goal is that the residential end user will not pay more for his sustainable heat than he does now for his fossil fuel. Industry balances heat supply and demand Indaver's processing operations in Antwerp North generate a lot of heat. This is already being used for its own business processes and for electricity production. The residual heat that remains after electricity production is still suitable for heating purposes. The neighbouring company 'Amoras', the mechanical dewatering project of the port of Antwerp, already heats its buildings today with residual heat from Indaver. Boortmalt, the world’s largest malting company, has its most important malting plant at some 8 km from Indaver. ith a production capacity of 470,000 tonnes per year, enough malt is produced here to brew around 16 billion beers a year. Large quantities of heat are required during the malting process. Boortmalt currently uses cogeneration units and gas burners to produce this process heat. When Boortmalt taps heat directly from the heat network in the future, the company will save an amount of natural gas comparable to the annual consumption of approximately 10,000 families. An open access network & two transport companies The heat network in the port will consist of two major parts. For each section, a company will be responsible for construction, operation and maintenance. The first part of the route, the heat supply to the company Boortmalt, will be built and operated by

transport company 'Warmtenetwerk Antwerpen Noord'. Partners in this transport company are Indaver and Port of Antwerp. The second part, the residential heat supply, is being realised by Fluvius on behalf of the City of Antwerp and can count on major customers such as social housing company Woonhaven, which will connect its buildings with some 3,200 homes in the Luchtbal and Rozemaai districts to the system. A special feature of this network is that it will be an 'open access' network: it will be open to additional suppliers and/or customers of heat who wish to join at a later stage. This is the first open access network to be realised in Belgium. Quotes "The transition from fossil to renewable energy is not only a question of more green electricity or clean fuels", says Annick De Ridder, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Port of Antwerp and Antwerp Alderman responsible for the port. "Making heat more sustainable is also essential, in order to heat buildings or create process heat for industry. The Antwerp North Heat Network will use process heat not only for industry but also to heat buildings in the city, good for a reduction of 80,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions a year. In this way the Port of Antwerp, together with local partners, is once again taking the lead in the transition to a climate neutral port. "Together with the Antwerp city government, we want to halve emissions on our territory by 2030. The Antwerp North Heat Network is essential for this", says Tom Meeuws, Alderman for the Environment of Antwerp. "We are helping both households and industrial customers on the road to climate neutrality. By connecting social housing in the Luchtbal and Roozemaai districts, this network embodies like no other the social climate transition that we consider so important." "Both industry and local governments are crucial partners in making the energy transition in Flanders a success," says Flemish Minister of Energy and Climate, Zuhal Demir. "Heat networks are the technology of today and of the future, because the most climate-friendly energy is the energy that does not need to be generated. By reusing heat that would otherwise go to waste to keep both Antwerp businesses and households warm, we avoid 80,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions. This benefits the port of Antwerp, the city and all its inhabitants and visitors.”
