MUMBAI: Allcargo Group, India’s largest integrated, end-to-end logistics solutions provider, has launched a Grade A warehouse facility at Hosur in Tamil Nadu. Spread over 1.10 lakh sq ft area, the state-of-the-art warehousing facility has been deployed for managing consolidation and distribution service requirements of industrial and automotive supplier Schaeffler. Hon’ble President of Republic of Maldives visits APM Terminals Mumbai [GTI]
NAVI MUMBAI: APM Terminals Mumbai [GTI] had an honour to host H. E. Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, The President of The Republic of Maldives and his team of delegates at GTI on 4th August. Girish Aggarwal, COO, GTI along with the management team welcomed the President and other distinguished dignitaries from the Maldives. We shared with them our infrastructural capabilities,
transformation program which enables us to be one of the most efficient and busiest gateway terminals in the Country. Girish explained about Terminal’s focus on energy optimization and reduction in carbon emissions as a part of the decarbonization roadmap. The Hon’ble President was pleased to witness live vessel operations at the jetty and was presented with a small memento to commemorate the occasion, informed a release.

Strategically located at Hosur Denkanikota Road, the warehouse facility offers swift access to key distribution locations in Tamil Nadu and beyond through important highways. It has the capabilities to efficiently serve the supply chain management requirements of automotive OEMs and aftermarket products. “To meet the growing warehouse demand, the Allcargo Group has created a pan India footprint of Grade A warehousing with Robust technology backbone. The Hosur, warehouse is strategically positioned to meet growing supply chain needs of automotive OEMs and aftermarket. It will further strengthen our service delivery capability for the automotive OEM industry. Our focus is on offering customers enhanced delivery competencies throughout with end-to-end solutions.” Allcargo Group spokesperson commented. The built-to-suit warehouse is equipped with modern infrastructure and advanced WMS which optimise the process of moving and storing goods. Digitallyenabled hand held terminals are used inside the facility to capture real-time data for efficiently managing picking, receiving, putaway and shipping of materials with optimum accuracy. The facility has reach truck, battery operated pallet trolley, fork lift, etc. to facilitate superior material handling. With more than 16,000 pallet positions, the facility offers ample inventory holding capacity. The warehousing capacity is scalable to meet growing needs of the clients.
Situated close to Schaeffler ’s manufacturing facility in Hosur, the warehouse facilitates quick turnaround of vehicles from factory carrying the finished goods to the distribution centre. The facility is strategically located to help Schaeffler serve its important automotive OEMs in Hosur and Chennai region, said an Allcargo release.

Piyush Goyal interacts with Export Promotion Councils and Associations; stresses on a ‘Whole of Govt’ approach to boost exports Commerce Secretary said all stakeholders in export ecosystem worked really hard last year and achieved the target 9 days ahead of scheduled end of the year NEW DELHI: Union Minister for Commerce & Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution and Textile Shri Piyush Goyal reviewed the Export scenario in his interaction with Export Promotion Councils (EPCs) and representatives of Industr y associations at New Delhi recently. Shri Goyal emphasized on a ‘Whole of Govt’ approach to boost exports. The Minister said this would require exporters, EPCs, Govt Agencies & Indian Missions abroad to work together. Recognizing the crucial role played by EPCs and Industry, Shri Goyal remarked that EPCs & Industr y Associations are key to realise “Local goes Global: India makes for the World”. Speaking to EPCs and Industry representatives, Minister stated that the ball is in our court and we have to be ready to take on global competition. He said that Government is doing its best through various measures to support Indian exporters to compete globally. Enumerating initiatives taken, he highlighted that with Gati Shakti, Government is improving connectivity and logistics. Government is also negotiating to sign more FTAs with important trade partners. This will have a direct impact in providing a level playing field in international markets, he added. He emphasized that everybody will have to work hard to achieve true potential of India in terms of global trade.
Expressing confidence that we are on track to meet expectations of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Shri Goyal said that the Country touched highest ever merchandise exports of $ 422 billion and all-time total exports of $ 667 billion - an increase of 34.5% over FY 21. By July’22, exports have reached $156 bn (19% higher) – Engineering goods exports $38 bn (8% higher); Readymade garment (22% higher). Agri exports grew by almost 20% till July’22, driven by rice, marine products & sugar. Stating that the Government has been increasing its international engagement, the Minister underlined t h e i m p o r t a n c e o f F r e e Tr a d e Agreements (FTAs). In this context, he urged the industry representatives to study FTAs and identify the areas which have competitive advantage. He hoped for an agreement on a multidimensional partnership with UK this year. Minister also appealed to representatives from the industry to take advantage of PM Gati Shakti, PLI, NSWS, EoDB reforms to improve export competitiveness wrt to other manufacturing powerhouses. Har Ghar Tiranga campaignCommerce and Industry Minister urged all the stakeholders in the export ecosystem to take the message of Har Ghar Tiranga to every nook and corner of the Country. He urged industry to unite and work together to keep our flag flying high and make this campaign a grand success. Textile Secretary Shri U P Singh informed that the Ministry is working with a select group of private
companies to supply 6 crore flags to state governments and Department of Post by 12th August. He said 5.12 crore flags have already been produced. One District One Product (ODOP) During the interaction, Minister launched the ODOP catalogue of over 300 products. He appealed to the people to use ODOP portal and buy products from there. This will directly help Indian artisans and families and also help revive dying arts of India. He mentioned that PM has repeatedly asked the nations to use these ODOP products as festival gifts and cooperate gifts, and PM himself uses these products for gifting purposes. Master Database of all Associations / EPCs- Shri Goyal asked all stakeholders to prepare a database of the industry associations/EPCs over the Country along with their members, employees & other basic details. Presentation was made on National Single window system. This scheme is being run by Ministry of Commerce and Industry to facilitate ease of doing business. Since its inception last year, 10k approvals have already been given under it. In his initial presentation Commerce Secretary Shri B V R Subramanyam said that all stakeholders in the export ecosystem worked really hard last year and achieved the target 9 days ahead of scheduled end of the year. Indian exporters need to be future-ready for technology and sustainability : ASSOCHAM-Deloitte Report NEW DELHI: With exports of both services and merchandise becoming a key driver in realising India’s ambitions to become a USD 5 trillion economy, the country’s exports will have to be futureready in terms of conforming to evolving global standards of green technology a n d s u s t a i n a b i l i t y, i n c l u d i n g experimentation around the central bank digital currency, an ASSOCHAMDeloitte report has said. Though the drive towards global sustainability standards may not be uniform for each nation due to varying socio-economic conditions, it will lay the ground for innovative solutions to produce and finance sustainable goods and services. ” Hence, as the first step, it has become imperative for India to act in defining sustainability standards that progressively match global expectations and keep up the momentum in export growth”, the report titled ‘Trade finance ecosystem: The path to inclusive and sustainable growth’ emphasised.
ASSOCHAM Secretary General Deepak Sood said, ”Concepts like ‘supply chain finance (SCF)’ , Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT)-based trade ecosystem and the Experimentation around Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs) are gaining traction amongst the national governments, regulators, technology innovators and votaries of environment protection. We need to double down on the technologies and future ecosystems”. The report said, to foster innovation and promote SCF at a large, ” there is a need for experimentation around Central Bank Digital Cur rencies (CBDCs).However, their usage needs to be evaluated in light of various design options being considered for roll out of digital currencies across the globe”. In addition to climate change disruptions, there is also a growing emphasis on green technology and sustainability, with the introduction of new regulations. This will change the trade pattern in favour of nations
producing sustainable merchandise and services, and pressurise existing trade supply chains, further disrupting the trade flow, the report noted. The confluence of new emerging technologies, such as blockchain, Internet of Things would play a key role in making the Indian exports and the processes efficient and compliant to green norms. India has witnessed steady growth in exports over the last few years, albeit inconsistently. Exports have performed well since April 2021. In FY22, India contributed to about five per cent of global trade with USD 756.7 billion imports and USD 669.7 billion exports. The ASSOCHAM-Deloitte report also pitched for creating a framework to reduce the compliance burden and standardise the documentation requirements to reduce the time for due diligence conducted by banks and other financial institutions. MSMEs should also be educated about incorporating SCF into their ecosystem

J M Baxi Ports & Logistics set to win the auction for Container Terminal at VOC Port Cont’d. from Pg. 4 ... a container terminal with private funds, when the price bids were opened recently, multiple sources, including an official at VOC Port, said. This is the second contract success in a month for J M Baxi Ports & Logistics after it triumphed in a tender issued by Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) to privatise the container handling terminal self-run by the State-owned port located near Mumbai. The concession agreement for this terminal was signed on 29 July. The contract wins will boost the valuation of J M Baxi Ports & Logistics ahead of a planned initial public offering (IPO) of shares. Port tenders at Major Ports (owned by the Centre) are decided on the basis of royalty per TEU: the entity willing to share the highest royalty per TEU with the port authority wins the deal for 30 years. The royalty payable will rise annually in tandem with the increase in wholesale price index (WPI), a measure of costs. The terminal operator will be free to set market rates under the new Major Port Authorities Act and the model concession agreement (MCA). J M Baxi Ports & Logistics runs container terminals at Visakhapatnam Port, Deendayal Port (Kandla), Haldia Dock Complex, a multiple purpose terminal at Paradip Port, container freight stations, inland container depots, bulk logistics, rail logistics (container trains), cold chain logistics
and heavy project logistics. In FY22, J M Baxi Ports & Logistics handled about 1.6 million TEUs and about 15 million tonnes (mt) of cargo, across its facilities located on India’s Western and Eastern coasts. The privatisation of Berth No 9 into a container terminal (depth of 14.2 metres) with an investment of Rs 434.17 crore will boost VOC Port’s container handling capacity by 6 lakh twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) a year to 1.8 million TEUs a year. VOC Port, the third largest container handler among the dozen State-owned ports, currently has two container terminals in its inner harbour, run separately by PSA SICAL Terminals Ltd (draft of 11.7 metres) and Dakshin Bharat Gateway Terminal Pvt Ltd (draft of 14.2 metres) with a capacity to handle a combined 1.2 million TEUs. The average capacity utilization of the two terminals is about 65 percent. The two terminals handled a combined 7,81,458 TEUs or 15.4 million tonnes (mt) in FY22 compared to 7,62,000 TEUs in FY21. Container cargo accounted for some 45 percent of V O C Port’s total cargo of 34.12 million tonnes (mt) in FY22. The project is a part of the National Monetisation Pipeline (NMP) wherein operational infrastructure assets including port terminals will be privatised through the public-privatepartnership (PPP) route. The NMP has listed 31 cargo berths across nine of the 12 Major Ports for privatisation by 2025.
Shipping Minister updates on the depth of Major and Minor Ports NEW DELHI: The Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Water ways, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal informed the Lok Sabha that three Major Ports namely Deendayal Port, Visakhapatnam Port and Kamarajar Port are having a depth of 18m or more. No information is available in respect of Minor Ports, he said. The dredging operations across all Major Ports have been categorized into capital and maintenance dredging. The quantity dredged in terms of Cubic Meters across major ports of India during the last three years is given at Annexure – I. Details of the dredging contracts awarded by the Major Ports since 2021 are given at Annexure – II. Global tenders are invited for the dredging project with
estimated cost more than Rs.200 crores. The Major Ports are required to carry out Environmental Impact Assessment Study (EIA) before taking up the work of capital dredging. The major ports are required to comply with the conditions laid down in the Environmental and Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) clearance issued by Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
No immediate review of export duties on iron and steel products NEW DELHI: The Centre may not immediately review export duties on a host of steel and iron products, as users of the alloy, including public sector infrastructure projects, are citing rise in input costs. On May 21, the Government has reduced import duty on certain raw materials for steel and imposed export duty on certain steel and iron products. “Nothing under consideration as of now. However, the whole package will be reviewed at some point in time,” a senior official said. To rein in input prices and
control runaway inflation, the Centre imposed an export duty of 15% on select pig iron, flat-rolled products of iron or non-alloyed steel, bars and rods and various flat-rolled products of stainless steel and another 45% on iron ore pellet. Similarly, the export duty on iron ores and concentrates was raised to 50% from 30%. Some steel makers have expressed concern that while domestic demand has remained muted in recent months, companies are losing out overseas customers due to the export taxes.

RBI increased the policy repo rate by 50 basis points to 5.4% Foreign exchange reserves remain the fourth largest globally MUMBAI: The Country's foreign exchange reserves remain the fourth largest globally and supplemented by net forward assets, reserves provide insurance against global spillovers, said RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) also increased the policy repo rate by 50 basis points to 5.4%. Net foreign direct investment (FDI) at $13.6 billion in Q1 FY23 was robust as compared to $11.6 billion in Q1FY22. "Foreign portfolio investment, after remaining in exit mode during Q1:202223, turned positive in July 2022. Along with several other measures undertaken in July, the Reserve Bank has also used its foreign exchange reserves accumulated over the years to curb volatility in the exchange rate," Shaktikanta Das said. In the week to July 22, foreign exchange reserves got depleted by
another $1.152 billion. India’s external sector has weathered the storm while navigating through the recent global spillovers. Merchandise exports grew in April-July 2022 while merchandise imports surged to record high on the back of elevated global commodity prices. Also, data indicate that demand for services exports, especially IT ser vices remained buoyant in Q1 despite global uncertainty. Exports of travel and transport services also improved in Q1 FY23 on a year-on-year basis, the central bank said. Speaking about rupee depreciation, the RBI Governor said the depreciation of the Indian rupee is more on account of the appreciation of US dollar rather than weakness in macroeconomic fundamentals of the Indian economy. July E-way bills second-highest NEW DELHI: E-way bills generated by businesses for inter-state commerce in July were up 18% on year and 1.5% on month, suggesting that the goods and services tax (GST) collections in August could be upwards of Rs 1.5 trillion, which is becoming the new monthly normal. At Rs 1.49 trillion, GST collections in July (June transactions) were up 28% on year and the second-highest ever, thanks to resurgent economic activities, improved compliance, high inflation and a broadening of the tax base. The number of e-way bills stood at 75.58 million in July, the second-highest
since the system was rolled out in 2018. It was 78.16 million in March 2022, resulting in a record Rs 1.68-trillion gross GST receipts in April 2022. With a monthly average of Rs 1.5 trillion till July, FY23 gross GST receipts may exceed the target by Rs 3 trillion, allowing the Centre to appropriate an additional Rs 80,000 crore, af ter devolution to the States. Stricter enforcement of compliance and rebound in economic activities are contributing to the buoyancy in GST receipts. The festival season, which will start soon, may further boost receipts. The rebound in economic activities, leading to higher shipments, has also
benefited the trucking industry, which is expected to see higher growth in revenues than seen a year ago despite an increase in fuel costs. “We are expecting 15-20% growth in revenues in FY23 compared with 10-12% in FY22,” All India Transporters Welfare Association (AITWA) joint secretary Abhishek Gupta said. Given that an incipient pick-up in consumption has resulted in a morethan-proportionate jump in GST revenues, a stronger economic recovery could allow the collections to settle at an elevated level, proving the high revenue productivity of the broadbased consumption tax.

Nearly half the world's container ships passed through the narrow Taiwan Strait -- which separates the island from the Chinese mainland -- in the first seven months of this year, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. “The global supply chain is interconnected and all the major stretches like Taiwan Strait are nerve centres of these value chains. And if any one stretch is blocked, the undercurrents are felt across the system. Especially at a time when the industry is busy shipping cargo for the peak season, the impact will be reverberated across. What will decide the degree of impact is the tenure of this disruption.” said Christian Roeloffs, cofounder and CEO, Container xChange, a technology marketplace and
operating platform for container logistic companies. “While we do expect trade disruptions across Taiwan, China, South Korea and Japan due to this if the military action persists longer or in intensity, another view is that the supply chain industry has built resilience over these past 2 years owing to many such shocks in the past. Case in point, we were expecting lockdowns in China (that lasted 2 months) to impact the peak season negatively. However, we do not see any such disruption, especially on container prices and leasing rates. business in Taiwan. No signs of rise in container prices due to peak season shipping The global average container prices dec;reased from $3339 in July to $2730 (so far in August) by 18%. The average container prices have declined in the month of July as compared to the month of June in the United States by 20%, China by 5% and India by 7%. These prices continue to drop into the month of August so far across the U.S and China. Average one-way pickup rates of cargo-worthy containers from Asia to North America decreased from $1612 in June to $1052 in July, by 35%. The pickup rates declined on China to the U.S stretch from $2088 in June to $1220 in July. Exporters want benefits for exports settled in rupee, hike collateral-free credit limit NEW DELHI: Exporters have approached the Centre seeking benefits for exports made through the rupee trade window provided by the Reserve Bank of India. (RBI). In this context, it is important to mention that exports to Iran in Indian rupee got such support. Amid the drop in exports, they also want a 25 per cent increase in collateral-free credit limit for raw material and freight payments. Last month, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced the settlement of export and imports in the Indian currency, a move aimed at easing trade with Moscow and Tehran under multiple Western curbs that are nearly cut off from standard cross-border payment platforms. Apex exporters’ body Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) was quoted as saying, “The transaction in Indian rupee may be considered as good as free foreign exchange for export purposes.” Further, it asked for a revisit of Russia’s export credit guarantee policy. Additionally, it sought a 25 per cent increase in the collateral-free credit limit for payments of freight and raw material, as well as the return of
the higher subsidy that the Government offers to meet their need for cheap funds. Worth mentioning here is that the exporters’ body has sought Government intervention at a time when India’s exports fell af ter 16 months — by 0. 76 per cent — on year to $35. 24 billion in July and shrank 12. 18 per cent from June.It said the feedback on global trade signals to a likely economic downturn in exports in the next two quarters as global inventories are pretty high. More importantly, India’s merchandise exports are grappling with many challenges such as shift in consumption from goods to ser vices with businesses operating unhampered after the pandemic, global inflation that is lowering the purchasing power and many advanced economies are in recession. The low value products may not face much issue in getting orders, but the prices of most metals and commodities are declining, which may impact the value-wise export realisation also.“ Since countries are facing a demand squeeze, the payments (they make to Indian exporters) are likely to be delayed,” FIEO said.
Drewry: World Container Index down 2% last week, Now 29% lower than same week of Last Year LONDON: Drewry’s composite World Container Index decreased by 2% to $6,628.29 per 40ft container last week. Drewry’s detailed assessment for Thursday, 04 August 2022 • The composite index decreased by 2% last week, the 23rd consecutive weekly decrease, and has dropped by 29% when compared with the same week last year. • The latest Drewry WCI composite index of $6,628 per 40-foot container is now 36% below the peak of $10,377 reached in September 2021, but it remains 84% higher than the 5-year average of $3,594. • The average composite index for the year-to-date is $8,168 per 40ft container, which is $4,573 higher than the
five-year average. • The composite index decreased by 2% to $6,628.29 per 40ft container, and is 29% lower than the same week in 2021. Freight rates on Shanghai – Los Angeles dropped 3% or $214 to $6,985 per feu. Spot rates on Shanghai – Rotterdam and Shanghai – Genoa fell 2% each to $8,939 and $9,741 per 40ft box respectively. Similarly, rates on Shanghai – New York decreased 1% to $9,774 per 40ft container. However, rates on New York – Rotterdam gained 1% or $18 to $1,292 per 40ft box. Rates on Los Angeles – Shanghai, Rotterdam – Shanghai and Rotterdam – New York hovered around the previous week’s level. Drewry expects the index to decrease in the next few weeks.

... its container traffic between the coastal area and hinterland. Containers loaded with polypropylene granules were brought on trucks from Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd. (MRPL) recently and loaded on flat wagons at the CONCOR Railway Siding at NMPA. The polypropylene granules sourced from MRPL is a byproduct of petroleum refining and used as raw material for processing different plastic-based material, including plastic bags, containers and cups. Palakkad Railway Division’s spokesperson M.K. Gopinath said that the freight is meant to reach Khodiyar (Ahmedabad) in Gujarat. CONCOR loaded polypropylene from its NMPA siding for the first time, he noted. As many as 90 containers, each weighing 16 tonnes, were loaded on 45 flat wagons of the freight train. Each container comprised 640 bags of polypropylene granules with the total load comprising 57,600 bags (1,872 tonnes), he said. The Container Corporation is expecting to dispatch at least four such rakes in a month in the coming days. MRPL, CONCOR, Southern Railway, Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd. and NMPA joined hands together to make the new stream of traffic a success. MRPL Executive Director (Projects)

The four full-line siding (900 m each) was built by KIOCL at a cost of Rs. 14 crore in 2004 to handle iron ore exports.
