BOXCO moves Project Cargo of HMEL Bhatinda Refinery amid lockdown M U M B A I : B OXC O h a s moved two Project Cargo for the prestigious HMEL Bhatinda Refinery Project during the lockdown. The Challenges in both these movements were the critical turns inside the HMEL Bhatinda refinery. In fact, there was not enough of manoeuvring space at the site due to the construction activity inside the refinery and this required specialised Self-Propelled Modular axles (SPMTs) which gives flexibility and power. Adani Ports on way to handling 400 MT cargo by 2025: Karan Adani AHMEDABAD: Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone, backed by steps like optimising operating processes to mitigate the impact of the coronavirus crisis, is on the path to achieving 400 million tonnes (MT) of cargo throughput by FY25, its Chief Executive Officer Karan Adani said. Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ), part of the globally diversified Adani Group which is the largest
integrated logistics player in India, had achieved cargo throughput of 223 MT in the last fiscal. “Ready for the future crisis situations like what we are witnessing can be all consuming. This kind of movement would not have been possible on conventional axles. Boxco with its state of the art SPMTs and skilled personnel were able to organise
these movements seamlessly inspite of the challenges. Boxco has now handled over 25 Super ODC’s & Heavy Lift Packages for the HMEL Bhatinda project. The Largest piece being 95m in Length, 7m in width & 6.5m in height. The heaviest package being 1121 MT.
Deendayal Port Trust celebrates WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY GANDHIDHAM: World Environment Day is celebrated on 5th June every year for encouraging awareness and action for protection of our environment. Raising awareness on emerging environmental issues to Marine Pollution, Human Over Population and Global Warming to sustainable consumption and Wild Life Crime. Its become global platform for public outreach. On the above theme, DPT also celebrated the Day by planting environment protecting plants at various locations of the Administrative Office Building, Gandhidham. The above programme was attended by the Chairman Shri S.K. Mehta, IFS, Deputy Chairman Shri Nandeesh Shukla in presence of Heads of Departments, officers & employees. Chairman, Dy. Chairman and HODs planted sapling in the premises of Administrative Office Building on the occasion and Chairman, called upon everyone to emulate the quality of planting saplings everywhere to ensure clean environment and to avoid pollution.

“We believe our actions will allow us to emerge stronger on the other side of the crisis and put us comfortably on the path to achieve 400 Million Tonne of cargo by FY 25 and thereby make progress towards becoming one of the most valuable port companies in the world by the end of the next decade,” Adani said in the company’s annual report released recently. He said in the company’s crisis mitigation plans are also embedded specific plans that will allow it to strengthen teams, focus on financial management, build deeper
customer relations, optimise operating processes, increase digitisation and most importantly maximise the goodwill of all stakeholders. APSEZ’s 11 strategically located ports and terminals — Mundra, Dahej, Kandla and Hazira in Gujarat, Dhamra in Odisha, Mormugao in Goa, Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, and Kattupalli and Ennore in Tamil Nadu — represent 24 per cent of the country’s total port capacity, handling vast amounts of cargo from both coastal areas and the vast hinterland. The company is also developing a transhipment port at Vizhinjam, Kerala and a container terminal in Myanmar.

DB Schenker introduces a new visual identity with a new brand design • A global launch with new corporate design visualizes the company’s strengths • Increases emphasis on emotional appeal • More differentiation, relevance and accessibility through the new choice of pictures and colors GURGAON: DB Schenker has announced its new brand identity with a focus on new designs, colours that modernizes the outlook of the brand and a new corporate layout. It immediately starts the transition to a new visual language of one of the world’s leading logistics provider. The initiative is the most extensive communicative repositioning of DB Schenker since its complete docking into the parent company Deutsche Bahn. The enhanced brand identity symbolizes the company’s strengths. The imagery includes a new color palette, as it shifts to Teal from Blue, which is a fresh and modern shade. Introducing this new type of signature color also underlines DB Schenker’s efforts and objectives for more sustainability in logistics. At the same time, elements such as the red “Pulse” enable identification and recognition with the DB umbrella brand. Cargo volumes at Major Ports decline 22% in April-May (YoY) NEW DELHI: Cargo volumes handled at India’s dozen state-owned major ports fell 22.16 per cent during April and May to 92.821 million tonnes (mt) from 119.239 mt a year ago as the coronavirus-induced demand compression roiled global trade. With the exception of New Mangalore and Mormugao Port Trust, the remaining 10 major ports reported volume declines in the April-May period compared to the same period last year, with Kamarajar Port Ltd posting the steepest fall of 46.07 per cent, according to the Shipping Ministry. Kamarajar Port Ltd, India’s only stateowned port that is run as a company, handled 3.228 mt from the 5.985 mt last year. Chennai Port Trust handled 4.561 mt in April-May FY21 from 8.179 mt last year, a drop of 44.24 per cent. The container volumes at Chennai dipped to 135,000 TEUs from 250,000 TEUs. Cochin Port Trust handled 3.411 mt, 40.14 per cent lower than the 5.698 mt
handled during the first two months of FY20. Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), India’s biggest container port located near Mumbai, reported around 30 per cent drop in volumes. Kolkata Port Trust reported a volume drop of 31.60 per cent to 7.306 mt from 10.682 mt. Cargo traffic at Mumbai Port Trust fell 27.08 per cent to 7.540 mt from 10.340 mt. Cargo volumes handled by V O Chidambaranar Port Trust dropped 21.83 per cent to 4.717 mt from 6.034 mt. Deendayal Port Trust, India’s biggest state-owed port by volumes handled, reported a 18.38 per cent decline in volumes to 17.189 mt from 21.059 mt. Paradip Port Trust handled 16.097 mt, a drop of 12.94 per cent over the 18.489 mt handled last year. Visakhapatnam Port Trust reported a 12.58 per cent decline in volumes to 9.947 mt from 11.379 mt. M o r m u g a o Po r t Tr u s t h a n d l e d
3.976 mt from 3.272 mt, a growth of 21.52 per cent. New Mangalore Port Trust reported a 11.51 per cent growth, handling volume of 6.821 mt from 6.117 mt. All the commodities, except iron ore including pellets and raw fertilisers, reported a decline in volumes. Crude oil, petroleum products, LPG and LNG declined 14.75 per cent to 32.321 mt, other liquids by 36.41 per cent to 3.140 mt, finished fertilisers by 14.26 per cent to 1.154 mt, thermal and steam coal by 35.94 per cent to 12.299 mt, coking coal and others by 24.05 per cent to 7.477 mt and containers by 36.33 per cent (in twenty foot equivalent unit or TEU terms) to 1.104 million TEUs. Iron ore including pellets posted a growth of 14.40 per cent to 9.145 mt while raw fertilisers notched a growth of 34.05 per cent to 874,000 mt. Port volumes is a proxy for India’s export-import trade performance.
Officer shortage to widen and inflate manning costs : Drewry LONDON: The current officer shortfall to crew the aglobal merchant fleet is forecast to widen, despite the dampening effect of Covid-19. This is due to the reduced attractiveness of a career at sea and rising man-berth ratios which w i l l i n f l ate f uture manning co sts, according to the latest Manning Annual Review and Forecast report published by global shipping consultancy Drewry. Drewr y estimates that there is currently a global officer shortage equating to around 2% of overall demand, though presently this is masked by the temporary idling of vessels due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, once the merchant fleet is fully reactivated this shortfall will re-emerge and represent a tightening of supply conditions compared to 2019 when the market was estimated to be in broad balance. Looking ahead, despite moderating fleet growth, demand for officers is expected to accelerate due to a revision in anticipated employment practices to extend leave periods and reduce tours of duty, with the resultant impact on manberth ratios. Meanwhile, net supply of officers has been slowing in recent years and is not expected to keep pace with rising demand, leading to a widening in the overall shortfall relative to merchant shipping’s requirements.
“Seafaring is no longer the attractive occupation it once was as competition from shore-based roles intensifies and the lifestyle with its associated mental health challenges becomes less appealing,” said Drewry’s senior manning analyst Rhett Harris. “The Covid-19 outbreak has dealt a f u r t h e r b l o w t o t h e o c c u p a t i o n’ s reputation with high profile news stories of stranded crews and enforced longer tours of duty.” The widening officer shortage is expected to put upward pressure on seafarer remuneration just when shipowners will be under pressure to trim costs in light of weak anticipated earnings. Drewry estimates that overall manning costs have flatlined in 2020 but are set to pick up over the next few years (see chart). “Further wage pressure will arise to maintain competiveness with shore-based work, particularly following the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak which
highlighted the health and lifestyle risks of a career at sea. As well as wage rates the overall work life balance dictated by tour lengths and leave rations are expected to become key considerations for employees and employers,” added Harris. Skills and experience for specialist roles remain in demand and are in even tighter supply than the manning market as a whole. There is also likely to be increased demand for seafarers from traditional low cost supply nationalities which will further add to inflationary manning cost pressures. “The past few years have seen good industry retention rates and a generally settled employment market. However, ship operators need to beware of officer availability trends and the deteriorating attractiveness of a career at sea. Officers cannot be recruited and trained to gain the experience required in a short period of time,” concluded Harris.
India's Forex reserves soar to record $493 Billion MUMBAI: The country's foreign exchange reserves surged by $3.43 billion to a new all-time high of $493.48 billion for the week ended May 29 on a handsome accretion of the core currency assets, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said recenly. The reserves - which are counted as a key
strength as the country faces the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic - had risen by $3 billion to an all-time high of $490.044 billion in the previous week. During the week ended May 29, foreign currency assets - a major component of the overall reser ves - increased by
$3.50 billion to $455.21 billion, data from the Reserve Bank of India showed. Total value of the gold reser ves continued to decline and were at 32.68 billion, lower by $97 million compared to the previous week, according to central bank data.

The Group is doing its part to improve air quality, in full compliance with the International Maritime Organization Low Sulphur Regulation (IMO 2020) As of the 1st of January, 2020, the Group implemented a wide range of measures that were financed by the full application of dedicated tariff adjustments (Bunker Adjustment Factors). Group: Net profit Group share of USD 48 million During the first quarter of 2020, in the context of a slowdown in world trade and a decline in carried volumes, CMA CGM Group revenues amounted to USD 7.19 billion, slightly down compared to the same period last year. This contained decrease is achieved thanks to the diverse range of industries in which the Group’s customers operate, a balanced global presence, and the complementary nature of the Group’s shipping and logistics activities. The Group’s operating per for mance improved significantly. Adjusted EBITDA for the Group increased by 25% to USD 973 million, equating to a margin of 13.5%, up 3 percentage points relative to the first quarter of 2019. Net result Group share was positive at USD 48 million (an increase by USD 91 million compared to the first quarter of 2019 and USD 170 million compared to the fourth quarter of 2019). The result includes a USD 185 million gain from the disposal of terminals. Shipping: Strong increase in Adjusted EBITDA margin to 15.1% Shipping revenue declined by 3.3% compared to Q1 2019 to USD 5.52 billion. Volumes carried by CMA CGM decreased by 4.6% compared to the first quarter of 2019 due to the impact of COVID-19 and more specifically the shutdown of factories, particularly in Asia in February and March. Nevertheless, revenue per carried container improved slightly, due mainly to the application of fuel surcharges. Adjusted EBITDA (excluding gain from sales) increased sharply by 31.6% over the first quarter of 2019 and reached USD 836 million. Adjusted EBITDA margin increased by 4 percentage points to 15.1%. The performance reflects the full impact of the cost reduction plan implemented throughout 2019, and still continuing during the period. The Group’s reactivity and flexibility enabled to quickly adapt the
capacity of the fleet deployed in the challenging context of the COVID-19 outbreak. Recent events and outlook The CMA CGM Group has been able to adapt to the unprecedented situation of a global pandemic by allowing its employees to continue their activities in safe conditions thanks to the required sanitary precautions. Fully focused on customer service, the Group has also developed a range of commercial and digital solutions to adapt and protect its clients’ supply chains. The CMA CGM Group intends to maintain a spirit of adaptation and innovation for the shipping and logistics of tomorrow with, in particular, the development of teleworking and the acceleration of digitalization in the industry. A bolstered liquidity position In these unprecedented economic and health conditions, the Group continues to proactively strengthen its cash position. A syndicated loan of EUR 1.05 billion was signed with a consortium of three banks (HSBC, BNP Paribas, and Société Générale). The loan has an initial one-year maturity and an extension option for up to five additional years. This loan, 70% guaranteed by the French State, is part of the scheme set up by the French government in response of the Covid-19 crisis and validated by the European Commission. Adaptation of deployed fleet and cost reduction The Group continues to adjust its capacity and logistical resources to meet the needs of its customers in order to preserve its profitability and protect its cash flows and its liquidity. Operating performance is expected to increase in the second quarter Lockdown measures taken even more in Q2 2020 in response to the spread of COVID-19 around the world are weighing on global consumption and increase uncertainties. The Group expects volumes to decline by about 10% over the first half of the year. Operating performance for the second quarter, however, should show significant improvement thanks to the industry’s discipline and the Group’s cost control policy. The Group pursues its strategy and reaffirms its pioneering role in the energy transition The CMA CGM Group intends to pursue and strengthen its strategy that relies around four major objectives: • Controlling every stage of the supply chain to offer endto-end solutions to its customers. • Promoting the regionalisation of trade which accounts for a growing portion of the business. • Driving the digital transformation of shipping and logistics industry. • Accelerating the industry’s energy transition. In particular, the Group is strengthening its commitment in favour of more balanced and environmentally friendly global trade. At a United Nations conference held on June 2, 2020, Rodolphe Saadé, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the CMA CGM Group, announced the Group’s target to be carbon neutral by 2050. Alternative fuels are expected to account for 10% of the Group’s fuel consumption by 2023. 2020 will mark a major step with deliver y of the first 23,000-TEU container ships powered by Liquified Natural Gas (LNG), allowing to reduce CO2 emissions by about 20% and eliminate nearly all sulphur and fine particle emissions.
