Deendayal Port regains No. 1 position among Major Ports GANDHIDHAM: The cargo volumes at DPT, one of the leading Major Ports in the country, have started picking up resulting in good throughput volumes during August 2020. This helped the port regain the number one position among Major ports relegating Paradip port (which was No. 1 last month) to the second position. The port registered an impressive 43.665 MMT throughput figure as compared to Paradip port’s cargo volume of 42.751 MMT. The major contributions for DPT, came from Vadinar : 204.60 lakhs, salt : 15.43, containers : 28.14, finished fertilziers : 17.34, sugar : 18.21, POL (Kandla) : 22.00 and Coal : 58.10 lakh MTs.

Govt directs Major Ports not to collect penal charges from users during lockdown period NEW DELHI: The Shipping Ministry has asked the twelve major ports to implement its April 21 advisory in “letter and spirit” and ensure that no penal charges are levied from port users during the lockdown period plus 30 days recovery time. Commenting on the Ministry’s latest advisory, Mr. Rahul Modi, President of Coastal Container Tr a n s p o r t e r s A s s o c i a t i o n Mr. Rahul Modi (CCTA) and member of the National Shipping Board, was quoted as urged all stakeholders in coastal trade “to support state-owned Major Ports to avail such intervention/supporting measures from the Government”. “The Government as well as Shipping Ministry has once again demonstrated its sincerity to come to the aid of trade and industry in all unforeseen calamities. All stake holders are therefore requested to cooperate with the Port authorities in quantifying the relief in order to ensure that the relief extended by the Ministry reaches to every one concerned. MARSEILLE: The Board of Directors of the CMA CGM Group, a world leader in shipping and logistics, met today under the chairmanship of Rodolphe Saadé, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, to review the financial statements for the second quarter of 2020. Upon the release of the second quarter results for 2020, Rodolphe Saadé, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the CMA CGM Group, commented: “Despite the COVID19 pandemic, our Group reported excellent results during the 2nd quarter, thus strengthening our financial structure. Thanks to our agile business model and synergies between our shipping and logistics business activities, we were able to adapt our service offerings to meet our customers’ fastchanging needs. We have also significantly reduced our costs and benefited from the drop in oil prices. CEVA Logistics’ turnaround plan is under way and in line with our expectations. During this public health crisis, preserving the safety of our employees was a top priority. Our teams have been working hard to ensure the Group’s and customers’ business continuity. Our expertise has been especially useful in combating COVID-19 by developing sea and logistical bridges to supply essential medical equipment. Third quarter results should mark a new improvement in our performance.” Operating and financial performance for the second quarter 2020 Shipping and logistics industr y is facing an unprecedented situation The Group performed second quarter operations under unprecedented circumstances due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Container traffic volumes decreased for the first time since 2009 as a result of lockdown measures in several countries. This resulted in the shutdown of production units, in particular in China, during the first quarter. This was then followed by a sharp downturn in global consumer demand in March and April. All supply chains were able to adapt to avoid disruption and deliver supplies—especially medical equipment. As lockdown measures were gradually lifted, carried volumes bounced back strongly as of May under the combined effect of inventory rebuilding and the sharp recovery in the consumption of goods, notably in the United States. CMA CGM was able to leverage its shipping and logistics expertise to tackle this challenge while also improving profitability, in particular by actively adapting fleet capacity to demand and continuing its cost discipline. Group: major improvement in operating performance and net income During the second quarter of 2020, CMA CGM improved profitability in all its business activities. Revenue for the period reached USD 7.0 billion, down 9.0% compared with the secondquarter of 2019, due to a slowdown in volumes related to the impact of the global public health crisis on international trade.
EBITDA improved once again, increasing 26.3% compared with the secondquarter of 2019, and reaching more than USD 1.2 billion. The EBITDA margin posted impressive gains, reaching 17.2% (vs. 12.4% during the second quarter of 2019). The operating margin was USD 530 million, i.e., 7.6%, versus USD 286 million (3.7%) for the second quarter of 2019.
During the second quarter of 2020, the CMA CGM Group posted positive net income, Group share of USD 136 million, up sharply, compared with a loss of USD 109 million during the second quarter of 2019, and a benefit of USD 48 million during the first quarter of 2020. The Group’s operating performance generated operating cash flow in excess of USD 1.1 billion. Moreover, the Group’s liquidity was further strengthened by securing a EUR 1.05 billion guaranteed bank loan, EUR 300 million of which was allocated to the CEVA Logistics capital increase. As a result, the Group’s liquidity position (available cash and undrawn credit lines) totaled USD 2.6 billion at June 30, 2020, allowing the Group to comfortably meet future financial obligations. In line with its prudent financial policy, CMA CGM continues to proactively evaluate all potential options to strengthen its financial structure, which may include refinancing opportunities across all available funding sources. EBITDA before capital gains/(losses) on the disposal of fixed assets and subsidiaries. Shipping: strong EBITDA growth of 30%
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, volumes carried during the second quarter of 2020 were down 13.3% compared with the second quarter of 2019, more limited than initially expected. As a result, revenue for the quarter was down 10.9% compared with the second quarter of 2019, totaling USD 5.3 billion for shipping, thanks to average revenue per TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit) of USD 1,112, up 2.8% year-on-year. Shipping EBITDA grew by 30% during the second quarter of 2020 at USD 1,052 million (vs. USD 808 million during the second quarter of 2019). The operating margin was up an impressive 86% to USD 497 million, i.e., 9.3%. Unit cost by TEU was down 4.6% compared with the second quarter of 2019, at USD 892 due to the decline in oil prices, the Group’s cost-cutting initiatives and the reduction in the fleet of vessels and containers deployed. CMA CGM demonstrated its ability to rapidly adapt its deployed capacity to demand, in line with the discipline seen more generally across all industry operators. Logistics: continuation of the transformation plan, excellent airfreight performance, 78% recovery in operating margin
CEVA Logistics turnaround plan implementation remained on track despite the challenging environment. Steady surge in cargo handling at JNPT despite COVID-19 Challenges JNPT handles 1,643,784 TEUs and 694 vessels during the lockdown period NAVI MUMBAI: Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), India’s Premier Container Port continued its steady surge in cargo handling with the easing of lockdown restrictions and pick up in the domestic economic activity. This progress indicates early signs of recovery which is very significant during the ongoing pandemic which has affected business across India. Despite the various challenges faced, JNPT handled a noteworthy 1,643,784 TEUs and 694 vessels in the lockdown period till 31st August 2020. Shri Sanjay Sethi, IAS, Chairman, JNPT said, “Ports are an important link in the logistic chain and JN Port has efficiently played this role during the last couple of months and after facing steep contraction, is now on the road to recovery. At JNPT, we have taken various steps to keep the Port Ecosystem functional and for smooth working of the Logistic Supply Chain during the Covid-19 pandemic crisis, which has helped our cause. Also by converting JNPT Hospital as Dedicated Covid Health Care Centre, we are trying to
do our best in helping the local community to come out of this crisis”. After facing a drop of over 35% in cargo handling in the initial lockdown period, slowly the decline has come down to 16.61% in August as compared to August 2019 and the Port is trying to reach its pre Covid performance levels and the numbers reaffirms that JNPT will maintain this growth trajectory. From the start, JNPT took a host of measures for the stakeholders, port employees, shipping lines, and the local community. These timely measures have helped the port in improving its numbers month on month and. JN Port registered a throughput of 3,52,735 TEUs in container handling in Aug 2020 as against 3,44,316 TEUs handled in July 2020. The overall traffic handled at JNPT during the month of August-2020 was 4.74 million tons as against 5.68 million tons in Aug-2019. The premier container port is expected to drive the next phase of transformation and further looks to strengthen its position, achieve the goals and remain in the position of a leading port in the coming years.

The Group’s logistics segment demonstrated its resilience during the past quarter, despite revenue being down 4.7% at USD 1.7 billion, also affected by adverse FX movements. EBITDA increased to USD 153 million, i.e., +4,1% compared with the second quarter of 2019, despite the negative impact of the health crisis on its results estimated at USD 7 million. This limited impact underscores the success of the wide range of measures implemented to offset the negative impact of the public health crisis. These results benefitted from the strong airfreight business thanks to air charters compensating the absence of regular capacity. Ground activities progressed further on their recovery. This performance offset the weakness of sea freight. The results of contract logistics were penalized during the quarter by the pandemic, which led to the closure of many sites. The operating margin is strongly growing by 78% to USD 40 million. Logistics net loss continued to recover during the second quarter, reaching USD -1 million, compared with a net loss of USD 32 million during the second quarter of 2019. Highlights for the second quarter of 2020 Adapting and supporting one another during the COVID-19 public health crisis The CMA CGM Group’s main priority was to ensure all Group employees around the globe were safe while leveraging its expertise to support its customers supply chains continuity. Consequently, the Group designed the “BUSINESS CONTINUITY PACK”, a new range of services to offer solutions adapted to customers’ needs during these unprecedented times. The CMA CGM Group, via its logistics subsidiary, also focused on prioritizing transportation of essential goods, particularly medical supplies, by building logistical bridges to France and several countries across the world. At the same time, thanks to its Foundation, the CMA CGM Group allocated a special budget to fund community-focused initiatives aimed at fighting the COVID-19 pandemic and supporting those most affected by the public health crisis in France, Lebanon, the United States and several African and Asian countries.
Simplified shipping service offering After the Asia – India and Latam trade lanes transfer, the Group announced early July that CMA CGM will become the sole carrier on the Transpacific trade. This decision aims at simplifying the product offering while optimizing the cost base and adapting to the current economic and trade environment. With this new development, the Group simplifies its brand strategy: CMA CGM becomes the sole global carrier supported by expert brands: • APL, as the expert in U.S. Government cargo; • ANL, as the leader in Oceania; • CNC, as the intra-Asia short-sea specialist; • Mercosul Lines, as the Brazilian cabotage expert; • Containerships, as the multimodal transport intraEuropean leader. Outlook Rebound of international trade The recovery in container shipping seen since April should continue during the third quarter of 2020 for most routes, driven by faster recovery in the consumption of goods than of services, the growth of ecommerce, and usual seasonality. These factors recently drove freight rates to historically high levels, in particular on transpacific routes where the Group is the world leader. Further improvement in operating performance expected during the third quarter Considering the uncertainties relating to the current health and economic environment, the CMA CGM Group remains cautious and continues to apply the necessary public health measures, adapt its offerings, and focus efforts on operational efficiency, cost control and optimizing its operational set up. The Group will carefully monitor the development of the situation, which remains uncertain. However, the Group is confident in its business outlook for the third quarter of 2020: the current strong momentum of the shipping market, driven by both volumes and freight rates, should allow the Group to further significantly improve its operating margin compared with the second quarter.

G a u t a m A d a n i , C h a i r m a n , Adani Group, said that the recent acquisition of Mumbai and Navi Mumbai airports will “help us redesign the way we will serve our customer base and bridge our B2C and B2B business models.” wrote in a recent LinkedIn blog, Adani Airport Holdings had entered into an agreement to acquire the debt of GVK Airport Developers and 50.50 per cent equity stake in Mumbai International Airport MIAL), which also has 74 per cent equity stake in the proposed Navi Mumbai International Airport. “The Mumbai International Airport is absolutely worldclass and I compliment the GVK Group for having built such an outstanding airport. The addition of the Mumbai International Airport and the Navi Mumbai International Airport to our existing portfolio of 6 airports provides us a transformational platform that will help shape and create strategic adjacencies for our other B2B businesses. This acquisition helps us redesign the way we will serve our customer base and bridge our B2C and B2B business models,” Adani said. Mumbai & its airport From a medium to long-term perspective, Mumbai is well on its way to becoming one of the top 5 global metropolitan centres of the 21st century. It is expected to be the nation’s leading airport as well as a core domestic and international hub as passenger traffic across our country grows 5-fold and India builds 200 additional airports to handle over 1 billion domestic and international passengers across the Tier 1, 2 and 3 cities, majority of which will connect to Mumbai. Govt gives green signal to 27 Cold-chain projects NEW DELHI: The Inter-Ministerial Approval Committee (IMAC) chaired by U n i o n Fo o d P r o c e s s i n g M i n i s t e r Harsimrat Kaur Badal has approved 27 new projects under the scheme for integrated cold chain and value addition infrastructure of Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana (PMKSY). These 27 new integrated cold chain projects worth Rs.743 crore will be set up for creation of cold chain facilities for the food processing sector in the country. “These projects with a grant-in-aid of ₹208 crore will help increase efficiency and sustainability in India’s food supply chain,” an official statement said. The projects have been
approved across Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh. Badal said that saving the perishable produce, by provisioning adequate infrastructure, shall not only help in augmenting farmer’s incomes but it shall also act as a small step towards making India Atmanirbhar in the fruits and vegetables sector. She said that these Integrated Cold Chain projects will provide a big boost to the growth of food processing infrastructure and direct and indirect employment opportunities in rural areas. U n d e r t h e s c h e m e , t h e Fo o d
Processing Ministry provides assistance in the form of grant-in-aid at the rate of 35 per cent for general areas and the rate of 50 per cent for North-Eastern States, Himalayan States, ITDP Areas, and Islands. The assistance at 50 per cent and 75 per cent respectively are also given for value addition and processing infrastructure subject to a maximum grant-in-aid of ₹10 crore per project. As many as 85 cold chain projects have been considered for financial assistance throughout the country. The meetings of the Inter-Ministerial Approval Committee (IMAC) to sanction the 27 new projects were held in August.

The Commerce Secretary Dr Anup Wadhawan, DGFT Shri Amit Yadav and other Senior Officers of the Ministry were present in the meeting. In his opening remarks, the Minister said that the country’s exports as well as imports are showing positive trends. The exports are approaching the last year’s levels, after making a sharp dip in April this year due to pandemic. Regarding imports, the positive thing is that the Capital Goods imports have not declined, and the reduction in imports has been seen mainly in crude, gold and fertilizers. He added that the trade deficit is reducing drastically and our share in the global trade is improving, thanks to our resilient supply chains, and perseverance and hardwork of our exporters. The minister also said that we are trying to generate more reliable and better trade data so that nation can do better planning and frame policies accordingly.
The Minister said that 24 focus manufacturing sectors have been identified which have the potential to expand, scale-up operations, improve quality, and lead enhancement of Indian share in global trade and value chain. These sectors have capacity to do import substitution and push exports. He said that India is being seen in the world as trusted and resilient partner in global value chain. On the issue of recent changes in the Merchandise Export from India Scheme (MEIS), the Minister said that the capping of Rs 2 Crore will not affect 98% of the exporters who claim benefit under the scheme. The Government has already announced Remission of Duties or Taxes on Export Products (RoDTEP) scheme for exporters to take the place of MEIS, and a Committee has also been set up to determine the ceiling rates under the RoDTEP scheme. This new scheme would reimburse the
embedded taxes and duties already incurred by exporters. The Minister, after listening to the challenges, experiences and suggestions of the EPC office-bearers, expressed thanks for their valuable feedback, saying that Macro-numbers sometimes don’t make one realize the difficulties being faced by the Exporters. He acknowledged that certain sectors, which are primarily dependent on the discretionary spending, are under severe stress. Shri Goyal promised to help the Exporters as much as possible, and also take up such issues, which fall outside the ambit of the Ministry of Commerce and I n d u s t r y, w i t h c o n c e r n e d departments. He said that SEZ issues are being taken up with the Finance Ministry. He called upon the exporters to engage with the Steering Committee set up to promote Indian manufacturing.
Atmanirbhar Bharat will increase Exports for the company, says Concor NEW DELHI: With a 75% share of the country’s rail container transportation business, Concor is sure to be a major beneficiar y of the Atmanirbhar Bharat Mission. Spoke to Mr. V Kalyana Rama, CMD of Concor to understand how Concor plans to use their expansive network to capitalise on this initiative and get an update on their much-awaited divestment. Rama was very optimistic about the road ahead on the export front. “Atmanirbhar Bharat will increase exports for the company. We are seeing export competitiveness increase in India which will only grow faster.” The management remained tight-lipped on the progress of divestment. The company has been on the receiving end of licence fee decisions- the railways has demanded a land licence fee of Rs. 776.9 crore for just two terminals in Delhi and the total land licence fee for all terminals put together can be as much as Rs. 1,000 crore per annum. “The railway land after surrendering 17 locations are very strategic. Discussions are underway for the land
licence fee and DIPAM will share input on licence fee decisions over time.” The onset of a shift in Rail market share being higher due to greater COVID-19 led disruptions in road transport. Rama said, “We are seeing a shift from road to the rail during the COVID pandemic. We are in discussion with Indian Railways for incentive schemes to attract more traction to Railways. Problems exist in the road sector and over time we will look to consolidate and capitalise on positive impact in a negative time.” Looking forward, a key incentive will be the Dedicated Freight Corridor which will likely be operational by the end of December or March 2021 according to Rama. “The Dedicated Freight Corridor will assure transit time of container time to and from ports.” The company has been on the receiving end of licence fee decisionsthe railways has demanded a land licence fee of Rs. 776.9 crore for just two terminals in Delhi and the total land licence fee for all terminals put together can be as much as Rs. 1,000 crore per annum. “The land licence fee was

The company will try to achieve 80% last year’s turnover of Rs. 6500 cr which is around Rs. 5200 cr but the increase in land licence fee may hit profits. Our profit last year was Rs. 1000 cr and this year will be around Rs. 400-450 cr,”said Rama. As the Covid-19 pandemic impacted economic activities at global as well as domestic level- the company said they are retaining the earlier guidance of 20% decline in handling volumes for FY21. Rama said, “We are trying to expand our network and improve service quality. We are working more towards digitisation and working on AI systems for better functioning.”

The move followed complaints from port users that the ministry directive was being ignored by some of the major ports and private terminals operating therein. “The detailed advisory dated April 21 may be implemented in letter and spirit and the ports shall ensure that no penal charges, demurrages, detention charges, dwell time charges, anchorage
charges, penal berth hire charges, performance related penalties etc are levied on any port user for any delay in docking/undocking, loading/unloading operations or evacuation/arrival of cargo/repair of vessel during the lockdown period plus 30 days recovery period,” the ministry said in a September 2 letter to all the major ports. The ministry reiterated that its April
advisory on exemption/remission charges due to force majeure triggered by the Coronavirus would be applicable for all port related activities affected by the pandemic. “The genuineness of the effect on the ‘port related activities’ due to lockdown must be ascertained by the respective ports,” the ministry told the major ports.

Narendra Modi calls for ‘trustworthy’ supply chains, in alternative to China NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has proposed reshaping global supply chains based on trust and stability, and not just cost benefits, as the country eyes new logistics networks that are less dependent on China. His comments came the same day that Japan expanded a subsidy program that helps Japanese companies move out of China, by including new destinations such as India and Bangladesh. The program had initially envisioned factories moving back to Japan or shifting production to Southeast Asia. Modi’s statement also follows a decision by Trade Ministers from Japan, India and Australia to begin building a resilient supply chain in the Indo-Pacific region. Aiming to reduce trade dependence on China — which was exposed when the coronavirus outbreak halted the flow of major goods across Asia — the three countries stressed the need for a free, fair and predictable trade environment and urged like-minded nations in the region to participate. At Thursday’s virtual address to the U.S.-India Strategic Partnership Forum, Modi said that the pandemic has “shown the world that the decision on developing global supply chains should be based not only on costs. They should also be based on trust.” Apart from geographical merits, “companies are now also looking for reliability and policy stability,” the Prime Minister said. “India is the location which has all of these qualities.”
He did not mention Beijing by name, but the speech fits a recent trend of decoupling from China, as the two major countries face off on the Himalayan border. It also comes against the backdrop of escalating Sino-American tensions and the COVID-19 pandemic. Many nations dependent on China for trade have suffered from supply chain disruptions, highlighting the need for diversification. Modi addressed the forum’s theme, “Navigating New Challenges,” saying India is becoming a leading draw for foreign investment. “Be it America or the [Persian] Gulf, be it Europe or Australia, the world believes in us,” he said, noting that the South Asian country received over $20 billion in foreign investment flows this year, with giants like Google, Amazon and Mubadala Investments announcing longterm plans for India. Modi also said that India’s 1.3 billion population has embarked on a mission to make itself “self-reliant.” The goal of the “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” campaign is to ensure “India’s strengths act as a global force multiplier,” he said. “A self-reliant and peaceful India ensures a better world.” Meanwhile, Japan’s program for diversifying supply chains has now acknowledged India and Bangladesh as eligible destinations for companies leaving China. The government’s supplementary budget for fiscal 2020 earmarked 23.5 billion yen ($221 million) for companies that move production to
Southeast Asian nations. When the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry opened a second round of applications on Thursday, it added “projects that contribute to the resilience of the Japan-[Association of Southeast Asian Nations] supply chain” to the list of qualifying moves, eyeing relocations to countries such as India and Bangladesh. Manufacturers can receive subsidies for feasibility studies and pilot programs. The total amount granted is expected to run into the tens of millions of dollars. The program aims to reduce Japan’s reliance on a handful of links in its supply chains, particularly China, and ensure a steady flow of products such as medical supplies and electrical components in an emergency. This issue came to the forefront with China’s shutdown in the early days of the pandemic. The first round of subsidies announced in July granted more than 10 billion yen to 30 companies relocating manufacturing to Southeast Asia. These include Hoya, which is moving production of electronic components to Vietnam and Laos, and Sumitomo Rubber Industries, which will make rubber gloves in Malaysia. Another 57 are receiving support for shifting production facilities to Japan, such as Iris Ohyama — the first to be approved — which is manufacturing face masks at its Miyagi Prefecture home base. Other prominent names approved for subsidies include Sharp, drugmaker Shionogi and medical equipment manufacturer Terumo.
Major Ports to use only Indian built tug boats now onwards A step towards bolstering the revival of Indian Ship building and a big move towards AatmaNirbhar Shipping in AatmaNirbhar Bharat : Shri Mansukh Mandaviya NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Shipping has directed all major ports to procure or charter tug boats which are only made in India. All procurements being done by major ports would now need to be carried out as per the revised ‘Make in India’ Order. The Ministry of Shipping is aiming to promote Indian shipbuilding industry and also have discussion with some leading countries for Make in India shipbuilding. In the meantime, this decision of the Government will be a big move towards realizing Make in India in shipbuilding. Union Minister of State for Shipping (I/C), Shri MansukhMandaviya said that the Government is taking 360 degree actions to revive old shipyards and promote shipbuilding in India. It is a step towards bolstering the revival of Indian Ship building and a big move towards AatmaNirbhar Shipping in AatmaNirbhar Bharat. The Government will try to create an ecosystem for shipbuilding, ship repair, ship recycling and flagging in India. AatmaNirbhar Shipping is going to be the order in the coming times. Procurement/chartering of port
crafts would need to be aligned with the revised Make in India Order to promote shipbuilding in India. It is proposed to set up a Standing Specifications Committee under Managing Director, Indian Ports Association and c o m p r i s i n g representatives from Cochin Ship Yard Limited (CSL), Shipping Corporation of India (SCI), Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) and Director General of Shipping. Standing Specifications Committee would shortlist around five variants/types of tugs and prepare a ‘Approved Standardized Tug Design and Specifications.’ (ASTDS). This ASTDS would outline specifications, general arrangements, basic calculations, basic str uctural drawings, key system drawings and other constr uction standards, etc. These standards would be vetted by the Standing Specifications
Committee and, thereafter, certified ‘inprinciple’ by IRS and published by the Indian Ports Association on its website. The Ministry will also provide some w i n d o w t o M a j o r Po r t s s o t h a t construction time would be availed. R e c e n t l y, G o v e r n m e n t o w n e d Cochin Shipyard Limited has been successful in grabbing the order for two automated vessels from Norwegian Government. These will be the first of its kind unmanned vessels. Various decisions taken by the Ministry of Shipping will turn around Ship Building sector in the near future.

During the meeting it was informed that Railways was set to offer reliable, fast, affordable and easy to handle parcel services for logistics / courier agencies. The meeting was called to discuss and explore the possibilities of expanding the business of private parcel ser vices through Indian Railways. In order to quickly work out the best guidelines and ease of doing business,
Joint working group is going to be formed consisting of Railway officials and representatives of logistics / courier providers. Speaking on the occasion the Minister said that win win solutions needed to be there to ensure a sustainable business development for all. It may also be noted that total 5,292 Parcel trains run by Indian Railways from 22.03.2020 till 02.09.2020 out of which 5,139 have been time-tabled trains. Total 3,18,453 tonnes of consignments have been loaded in these trains and the earnings have been Rs. 116.19 crores.
It is worth mentioning that Indian Railways Freight loading for the month of August 2020 with total 94.33 million tonnes of freight loading surpasses last years loading for the same month. Total 1,41,049 rakes with 451.38 million tonnes of freight loaded by Indian Railways from 25.03.2020 till 01.09.2020. A number of concessions/ discounts are also being given in Indian Railways to make Railways Freight movement very attractive. Improvements in freight movements will be institutionalized and incorporated in the upcoming zero based time table.

Manufacturing exports from SEZs down 45% on year till June: SEZ council NEW DELHI: The Export Promotion Council for EOUs and SEZs (EPCES) on Friday said that the manufacturing exports from Special Economic Zones (SEZs) have decreased around 45% onyear till June even as software and service exports grew 5%. Manufacturing exports from the units were Rs 41,699 crore till June compared to Rs 75,346 crore in the same period last year. Software and services exports rose to Rs 1.11 lakh crore till June 2020 from Rs 1.05 lakh crore last year. India’s exports contracted 10.2% in July at $23.64 billion while imports dipped 28.4% to $28.47 billion. The council suggested that as part of Atmanirbhar Bharat mission, SEZs and export-oriented units (EOU) should be allowed to manufacture goods and supply them to domestic market without any import duties. At present import duties
are imposed on all supplies from SEZ units to domestic market. It also said that these goods manufactured in SEZ and EOUs and supplied to domestic market should be treated as exports as import substitution. “These imported goods may include defense products, health products and other non-essential goods, which can be identified,” the council said in a statement on Friday. It sought permission for job work by SEZ units for units in domestic area for better capacity utilisation especially during the ongoing pandemic, exemption for manufacturing units from payment of lease rentals and integration of SEZ online with ICEGATE system of Customs. Export incentives Citing uncertainty about incentives under Merchandise Exports from India Scheme (MEIS), the council said that
benefits under the MEIS and Rebate of State and Central Taxes and Levies (RoSCTL) schemes should be extended to apparel/ garment sector for exporters in SEZ and EOUs. “It will be difficult for the exporters to properly price their products now which would be exported post December 31, 2020,” EPCES said. The government has capped the benefits under the MEIS at Rs 2 crore per exporter on exports made between September 1-December 31, 2020 without changing the coverage of the scheme and the applicable rates. It also said that the new Import Export Code (IEC) obtained on or after September 1 will be ineligible to submit any MEIS claim for exports, and the ceiling would be subject to a downward revision to ensure that the total claim doesn’t exceed the allocated Rs 5,000 crore for the period.
Forex reserves jump $3.883 bn to record $541.431 bn MUMBAI: The country's foreign exchange reserves surged by $3.883 billion to touch a lifetime high of $541.431 billion in the week ended August 28, RBI data showed on September 4.
