HERE was total confusion yesterday at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium when the much anticipated return of the MTN/ FAZ Super Division failed to take off after the match involving Green Eagles and Zanaco FC was cancelled when it was found that 23team members from Forest Rangers tested positive for Covid-19. But according to the Football Association of
Zambia (FAZ), the game was put off on the recommendation of the Ndola Public Health Office. Earlier, Forest Rangers confirmed that 28 of their staff members had tested positive for the coronavirus ahead of their tie against Zanaco FC. In a statement issued by the club’s communications manager Christine Zulu, the league leaders noted that they had informed FAZ of the 28 members infected from the 58 tests conducted earlier last week. “In accordance with the

MAN BURNS SELF OVER ‘AFFAIR’ A
28-YEAR-OLD Zimbabwean man two weeks ago doused himself with petrol before setting himself on fire in the eastern Johannesburg suburb of Alberton. Tinashe Marimo, who hailed from Chitungwiza, allegedly committed the act in a fit of rage. He was hospitalized for a few days with third degree burns and eventually succumbed to the injuries. Sources close to the story say Tinashe had a romantic relationship with a 38-year-old woman named Lizzie Ndlovu (ten years his senior) who also stayed in the same suburb. He allegedly could not stomach seeing Lizzie with other men after

A FURIOUS man has revealed that his wife secretly took his dog to the kennel after telling him that she had run away. He explained that when he and his wife got married he already had a dog, who he “loved” and was “my buddy”. But when his wife got pregnant she became increasingly paranoid the dog would be a danger to the baby as she was “an aggressive bread”. The man insists his dog was well-trained and when his wife suggested rehoming the dog, he refused. Then one day she called him crying at work saying that the dog had run away and that she hadn’t been able to run after it.

He admitted: “I believed her. I looked for that dog for weeks.” Eventually he just had to accept it because there were other more pressing matters like welcoming their newborn. He said: “It’s been five years since then and we now have three children. I’ve wanted to get a new dog but the kids take a lot of energy and time. My wife has always had a new excuse not to get another dog. “I found out recently that my dog didn’t run away, my wife and her father took the dog to the pound while I was at work because her parents agreed with her about the dog being “dangerous.” - MIRROR

‘She floats like a butterfly, stings like a bee’. . . Man living in fear of wife’s hot punches
A CASE of a man getting beaten by his wife is rarely taken seriously by society. But it is a serious issue, so serious that one such victim has enlisted the long arm of the law. A Bulawayo man, Thabo Siwela, is a living testimony that men also fall victim to physical abuse as his wife Zandile Kaziboni is regularly raining blows on him. Siwela said when assaulting him, his wife’s hands were so fast, that he barely sees her punches coming. “She beats me up regularly and is very quick with fists. I fear that she will kill me. I always walk out of the house whenever she starts insulting me. She even brags that men should be abused while women are being protected by the courts,” Siwela painfully narrated his life with an abusive wife at the Bulawayo Civil Court where he was seeking a protection order
against her. “I fear that she might end up harming me because of her violent behaviour. She beats me up whenever she feels like it. She is also destroying our property. I sought help from relatives and police to no avail. All I want is a protection order against her so that I live in peace,” begged Siwela. He insisted that his wife’s violent behaviour was a threat to their 20-year marriage. In response, Kaziboni admitted that she was a bad tempered woman. “He is the one who is always provoking me. On the latest incident of violence which he reported to the police, I lost my temper and slapped him after he threatened to evict me from the house. “The source of our problem is that he wants me out of the house and that is why
I am opposed to his application for a protection order,” protested Kaziboni before she suggested that they be referred for counselling. Siwela, however, dismissed her claims saying even if he remained calm or responded in kind, Kaziboni would still be enraged to the point of violence. In her ruling the presiding magistrate Nomasiko Ndlovu granted a reciprocal order which compels both parties to keep peace by not verbally and physically abusing each other. The magistrate also ordered Kaziboni not to physically harass her husband or threaten him in any way. Meanwhile, Duduzile Mhlanga, a psychological counsellor, says Siwela’s situation is not unique. A SINGING and rapping show in Lusaka’s Chilanga Town dubbed ‘Chilanga Voices Unlimited Reality Television Show’ is set to commence in Chilanga. This is an initiative and brain-child of Unlimited Creativity, a media production house based in Chilanga. According to Unlimited Creativity creative director, Dellan Masiye, the reality show seeks to unveil the singing and rapping talent in Chilanga. “It intends to give the participants an opportunity to record a song and have a music video done as a way of exposing them into the industry,” explained Masiye saying the reality television show will showcase participants’ journeys from how they get recognized to be part of the singing exhibition, their audition into the top 40 and finally, their qualifying into the top 10.
“The top 10 are entitled to a free song recording and a free music video produced at Unlimited Creativity,” he said. “The show is 100% Chilanga based and all the participants are from Chilanga. All the music videos will be shot in Chilanga.” Unlimited Creativity is a media production house that has been in operation since 2012. They have produced documentaries, adverts, music videos and a vast array of audio presentations for their ever-growing client base. The company relocated to Chilanga in the early months of 2020 and has since begun its operations there. The nature of Unlimited Creativity’s business depends partly on talent and thus the birthing of the Chilanga Voices Unlimited Television Reality Television show concept. “The show serves a dual purpose. AMBIA’S wildlife conservation and tourism sectors are inextricably linked. In many cases without one there is no other. In fact, for many organizations who work on the front lines of protected areas in Zambia the operational funding that makes their work possible is derived directly from monies paid by tourists.
The Department of National Parks and Wildlife and supporting partner NGOs such as Conservation Lower Zambezi and Conservation South Luangwa receive funding from the proceeds of tourism. Without conservationists there would be no wildlife to see and likely no tourism. In other words, the expensive work, carried out by the Government of the Republic of Zambia, of keeping Zambia’s wildlife safe from poaching is supported by those who come to explore this country’s beautiful landscape, flora, and fauna. Zambia is world renowned for its wildlife. From the elephant rich Luangwa valley in the east to lions of the Liuwa plains in the west, Zambia is home to spectacular scenes experienced nowhere else in the world. This includes the world’s largest mammal migration (Kasanka Bat Migration), the largest population of Wattled Cranes in the world and the second largest wildebeest migration in Africa. In short Zambia is amazing and this is evidenced by the millions of tourists who visit the country every year. Although much of tourism in Zambia is concentrated around a limited number of national parks, such as the South Luangwa, Kafue, Lower Zambezi, the rest of the country also has considerable attractions. Zambia has a total of 21 national parks and 34 game management areas which represent over one third of our country’s land mass. Zambia’s commitment to conserving vast tracts of land for conservation is commendable. It is well known that Zambia’s tourism industry is financially lucrative. A 2019 report by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) stated that travel and tourism is Zambia’s fastest-growing economic sector, contributing 1,846 million dollars to our national economy, and creating over 300,000 jobs. national visitors alone spent 8.4 billion Kwacha in Zambia. This income is desperately needed by a developing country. This also creates employment for people in rural communities residing near protected areas. Sadly, the arrival of COVID-19 and subsequent bans on travel and leisure activities have jeopardized the many gains made by our tourism and conservation sectors. In a recent address to the nation, President Lungu stated that tourism losses are estimated to dig a USD 400-million hole in Zambia’s economy and re-
sult in the loss of thousands of jobs. Ecotourism Association of Zambia chairperson Grant Cumings further stated that Zambia’s safari tourism sector will lose USD 100 million due to coronavirus cancellations with 168 safari lodges and camps closed. We are now living in the age of the COVID-19 pandemic that has changed the world as we know it. While there are many things we are unable to fix during this time but we can still support Zambian tourism. More than ever domestic tourism is needed as many businesses struggle to stay afloat and are offering
significant discounts. There are opportunities for Zambians to not only see more of their country but support local businesses and local communities. Domestic tourism is one of Zambia’s most promising prospects for economic growth and sustainable conservation efforts. The options are endless.
