FOREST Rangers FC chairman Benhail Mukuka says they will appeal against Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) decision to award ZANACO FC three points for the match which couldn't be played after it was reported that Rangers had recorded 29 positive cases of Covid-19. FAZ awarded Zanaco three
points and three goals for the unplayed match against Forest who claimed to have recorded 29 positive cases of Covid-19. The three points propelled Zanaco to sixth position on the 18-team Super League table with 42 points. However Mukuka said Rangers will engage the appeals committee to re-look at the case for fair judgement. Meanwhile, Mukuka
hailed FAZ for deciding to end the MTN/FAZ Super Division prematurely because of the increase in positive Covid-19 cases recorded across the country. Mukuka said going ahead with league games when most people are infected could be chaotic for the country. "Ending the league at week 27 is a good move because a lot of people are unwell and I'm ok with champions being declared after week 27
though I feel we should have done it earlier. "Before starting the league, we should have taken steps to make sure that tests were done in advance but that was not put in place and we started prematurely before testing everyone so the decision taken is the correct one under the circumstances but for the decision to award Zanaco three points, we are going to appeal," Mukuka said.

tossed back to ZA By MUKWIMA CHILALA THE National Sports Council of Zambia (NSCZ) has referred Higher Grounds Athletics Club director Jonathan Chipalo back to the Zambia Athletics (ZA) executive committee after the former wrote the sports council seeking intervention in issues surrounding the association’s upcoming elections. But Chipalo has expressed dissatisfaction with the NSCZ’s reply and has since written to the Minister of Sport Emmanuel Mulenga to intervene in a matter in which he has challenged the ZA executive to announce the election date, as their mandate comes ends on October 1, 2020. The NSCZ had on Thursday written back to Chipalo advising his club to engage the ZA executive before seeking
intervention of higher authorities. NSCZ acting General Secretary Raphael Mulenga said they need to exhaust all intra channels of resolvingthe issue before they could resort to outside intervention. But in a letter addressed to the minister and accessed by the Sunday Nation, Chipalo noted that the NSCZ general secretary had not resolved his appeal to ensure the ZA executive committee meet the deadline of holding the elective annual general meeting in the first week of October. But ZA general secretary Davison Mungambata said that they would only announce the election date at an appropriate time.

Midwife witnesses mum in labour discovering husband has a mistress - but it gets worse
GIVING birth is meant to be one of the most magical moments of your life - but, for this mum, the moment was overshadowed by her husband’s infedelity. A midwife who was on shift at the time, was left stunned when the mum discovered that her husband’s secret partner was also at the same hospital giving birth. The health care worker, from the US, was sitting near the couple at the time that the mum confronted her husband, and captured her reaction on camera. The video, which was later shared on Reddit was captioned: “When the laboring mom finds out her man’s side chick is also here in labor.” In the short clip, you see the midwife’s face slowly but surely appear more and more stunned as the conversation
goes on. Whilst it’s not exactly clear what the couple are saying to each other, the midwife’s face says it all. All you can make out is a lot of frantic shouting and swearing. The post, which was uploaded only two days ago, has received over 82,000 reactions, and 4,100 comments from Reddit users. Understandably, the overall consensus was that users felt sorry for the mum in labour. One person said: “I wouldn’t even know what to do as a nurse in this scenario”, with which a nurse replied saying: “As a nurse, I can confirm this. If we can’t deescalate the situation verbally, then all we can do is call security and watch.”
A DUBLIN cyclist has gone viral for leaving a brilliant message behind when they ‘stole’ a bike. But they didn’t take any old bike - according to the note, they were simply reclaiming what was rightfully theirs. Passers by in Smithfield were very amused by the handmade sign that was taped onto the railing, sharing photos of it on social media, reports Dublin Live. The pictures quickly went viral on Twitter and Reddit as people revelled in the drama of the stolen bicycle. The message, written in bright orange ink, reads: “If you looking for the grey bike - I stole it back - it was mine. BACK in 2009, a man named Christopher Aitchison visited Tantallon Castle in East Lothian and snapped a photo of the ruins. The castle, which dates back to the 14th century, is located on a remote headland near North Berwick and was badly damaged in 1651 during an attack by Oliver Cromwell's forces. Tourists take pictures of the fortress all the time, but Mr Aitchison's image has

Mystery of ‘haunted photo’ of ancient castle that still completely baffles experts caused quite the stir - so much so that people are still talking about it 11 years later. That's because, if you zoom into it, the photo shows a figure in one of the windows, which some believe to be a ghost, reports Edinburgh Live. Paranormal fans have been divided over what the image
really shows for years. Some say they see a person in the window, wearing a ruff and centuries-old clothing. Speaking about his photo, Mr Aitchison previously admitted: “I was not aware of anyone, or anything, being present in my picture.” Spooky!

Professional Insurance ups Covid-19 fight By NOEL IYOMBWA THE World Health Organisation (WHO) declared COVID-19 a pandemic on March 11, 2020. Since then, the pandemic has had a huge impact on business and the way of life across the globe. The disease is unrelenting with global figures standing at 16 million reported cases and a death toll of over 600,000. Zambia had its first case confirmed by the Minister of Health Dr. Chitalu Chilufya on the 17th of March, 2020 and the figures have since been going up. The country now has a total of 4,552 reported cases as at the last update by the Minister of Health on 27th July, 2020. The death toll is at 137 [39 COVID-19 deaths and 98 associated deaths] with 2,815 having fully recovered and 1,597 active cases.

The multi-sectorial approach that Government has encouraged in this fight has seen a number of private organization join the fight. Professional Insurance Corporation Zambia Plc has not been left out. The Corporation held a voluntary Covid-19 testing at it’s Addis Ababa branch on July 28. The Corporation also, donated various materials that included hand sanitizers, hand washing soaps, disinfectants, bathing soap, hand washing basins, granular chlorine to the Zambia Correctional Service [ZCS] on 3rd April, 2020. The Corporation managing director Moses Siamese said this was all in an effort to strengthen the fight against the disease in our prisons. He applauded the efforts of Government through the Ministry of Health for the good work being instituted to fight
COVID-19. “In Particular, we wish to pay special gratitude for the bravery and selflessness that is being exhibited by our frontline health staff that have given their all in the fight against the pandemic. To you ALL, we say thank you and continue with the good work,” he said. “Today we take another deliberate step to ensure we know our COVID-19 status as this will enable us know how to best tackle the disease. This is over and above the guidelines that have been issued by the Ministry of Health which all our employees are following,” he said. Mr Siame stated that the move has received overwhelming response from members of the public, corporates and customers wanting to test.

‘Scouts lacking adult support’ By TERENCE MISELO MUKWILIMA Kapata an experienced Zambian scout leader says the activity is slowly declining because of lack of support from adults. Speaking in an interview with the Nation Lifestyle, Kapata who has a track record of success in coordination of scout activities, says he would love to see the resumption of scouts in various institutions like schools because there are a number of benefits. “My experience as a scout leader has instilled confidence and leaderships skills while working as a scout leader has cultivated a sense of grit and commitment to building sustainable solutions for positive change,” he said adding that revitalising scouting in Zambia will impact positivity

orld Ranger Day falls on 31 July each year and celebrates the accomplishments and work done by wildlife rangers around the world. It also honors the memory of those killed or injured in the line of duty.
In commemoration of this important day in conservation, we spoke to two of Zambia’s most accomplished wildlife rangers, both of whom have received international recognition for their contribution to safeguarding the country’s national parks and wildlife. Mr. Solomon Chidunuka, the current Senior Warden in Muchinga Province, is one of the country’s most celebrated rangers, with an illustrious career that spans decades and has seen him work in many protected areas in Zambia since joining the Department of National Parks and Wildlife in 1989. Some of the areas he has been deployed to include Kafue National Park, Lower Zambezi National Park, East Musalangu Game Management Area and Sichifulo Mulobezi Game Management Area, among others. One of his greatest achievements came when he was promoted to the position of Area Warden for Lower Zambezi ecosystem after working as a Park Ranger at Luangwa wildlife Sector for 11 years. “This was a period of extremely high poaching of elephants in central and western parts of Lower Zambezi where each year we could record 60 to 70 elephants poached in the area”, he said. He added “I told my officers that we needed to reduce this poaching by 10% and so I put on my boots and combat gear and started leading field patrols. By end of the

In 2017, he received the Tusk Wildlife Ranger Award, making him the first Zambian recipient of the prestigious award that gives international recognition to the men and women who face danger every day to protect Africa’s wildlife. His message to other rangers in commemorating their special day is, “Discipline, hard work and commitment towards work are very important, as you work for present and future generations to enjoy having this beautiful wildlife.”
Benson Kanyembo is another easily recognizable name in Zambian’s conservation circles, having received his Tusk Wildlife Ranger Award in 2019. He was described by the organizers of the award as “a ranger’s ranger; physically tough, incredibly hardworking and resilient without seeking recognition or reward.” He started his conservation career in 1994 with North Luangwa Conservation Project. In 1997 Benson joined the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Service (DNPWS), as a community scout. In his current role as Law Enforcement Advisor at CSL, Mr. Kanyembo leads a team of 65 well trained, well equipped and highly disciplined scouts who risk their lives in their daily fight against poaching, sometimes spending up to 20 days on patrols in tough conditions and harsh weather. He now uses his experience as a former wildlife police officer to identify areas where conservation organizations like CSL can assist and work with the DNPW in protecting Zambia’s wildlife and ecosystems.
“In 2019 we increased our already significant support to DNPW’s anti-poaching programs by recruiting new scouts and called for better utilizing resources which led to DNPW and CSL patrol efforts to increase by more than 100%, Snare recoveries increased by 16%, arrests increased by 43%, and there has been an overall reduction in poaching.” He has a special message for rangers and scouts, “Remain committed to your noble duty, despite the risks, hardships and limited resources to support your work.” In Mfuwe many activities including identifying and awarding the Ranger and patrol teams of the month, and a quiz on wildlife conservation have been lined up in celebration of this year’s World Ranger Day.
What is apparent from conversations with the two men is that wildlife rangers and their work are seldom appreciated, even though they are the first line of defense when it comes to protecting our natural resources and cultural heritage. Sadly, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) reported that at least 149 rangers were lost in 2019 alone. Rangers play an important role in conservation as they dedicate themselves to protecting the planet’s vulnerable species and fragile ecosystems. They often work for little reward while being exposed to hazardous environmental conditions such as floods, fires, illnesses. Sometimes rangers have to face dangerous animals and even armed poachers.
