ITH six dramatic Covid-19 deaths in one day, health authorities have observed an increase in home deaths meaning that people are not going to hospitals when they are sick. Ministry of Health Director for Infectious Diseases, Lloyd Mulenga said the increase in deaths was an indication that people were shunning hospitals. Zambia’s Covid-19 deaths now stand at 30, with 6 deaths reported yesterday alone.

The Mast portrayed me as a dangerous person – PF official By ANDREW MUKOMA A PF official has told the Livingstone High Court that his two companies lost business as a result of a story published by the Mast newspaper which likened him to the notorious Luano Valley Mailoni brothers. In this case, Southern Province PF youth vice chairman, Obby Mweemba, has sued the Mast newspaper for defamation and he is claiming damages the court may deem fit. Mr Mweemba is represented by Brian Gombwa of MAK Partners, who sat in for Phillip Mukuka of AMC advocates. The Mast newspaper is represented by Nkandu Chibuye and Chisuwo Hamwela of Nchito Nchito and Advocates.

Mr Mweemba “I am a businessman dealing in construction logistics. In the political realm, I am eyeing to be minister. I want the court to award me damages,” Mr Mweemba told High Court Judge Mathews Zulu that on November 14, 2018, the Mast Newspaper published a story, in which it liked him, with Southern Province PF chairman, Lawrence Evans and Omar Munsanje to the late notorious Mailoni brothers. Mr Mweemba, 38 of house 508 off Airport Road, said when he read the story, he called Edwin Mbulo to find out if the article in the newspaper represented the truth of what he wrote. He said in his response, Mr Mbulo confirmed what was contained in the article as the truth. He told the court that the article reduced his chances of being appointed Minister as he was a politician. He said he spent three to four months trying to build the reputation the Mast newspaper had injured. Mr Mweemba said the Mast Newspaper implied that he is a criminal and a danger and felt that being likened to the Mailoni brothers was defamation. “I am a businessman dealing in construction logistics.
