HE Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has warned against underestimating Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojević patience by quickly awarding the Serb his contract.
And Minister of Sport, Youth and Child Development Emmanuel Mulenga on Wednesday said Government would only look at Micho’s contract once the league resumes. But FAZ vice-president Rix Mweemba said there was no connection between Micho’s contract and the resumption of the league as the Chipolopolo coach has national team assignments to focus on. Mweemba said the delay in giving the coach his contract was demoralising and expected to kill the zeal.

Micho got down to work immediately he was unveiled as Chipolopolo coach by FAZ in February. “We should not underestimate his patience, we should actually respect his patience and give him the due contract that he deserves, for the good of the nation. He’s shown love for the nation, it’s really very demoralising. When you got the zeal to do something and then frustration like this comes in the way, their limits a person can take,” Mweemba said. He said FAZ was equally embarrassed by the situation as they have continually assured the coach that his contract will be signed before the preparations for international assignments. Mweemba pleaded with the minister to step in and quicken the process before Micho backs out. “He shouldn’t be working in limbo in the way he is doing. I am sure he’s getting doubts on whether we are going to sign him or not which is not good for an employee. No one is ready for an excuse this time around, we have to qualify for both the Africa Cup and World Cup so he needs assurance to start planning for the task ahead,” Mweemba said. Mulenga said the ministry was currently looking at the resumption of the league. Micho was given a two-year contract with a salary of US$25, 000 with FAZ contributing US$15, 000 and government US$10, 000. FAZ has been meeting its obligation.
