Fairground improvements closer than ever before For 102 years, Sanpete County has hosted a county fair at the Sanpete County Fairgrounds. The fair has always drawn our families and other visitors to the fairgrounds to celebrate the bounty of the harvest of our local farmers and ranchers as well as the numerous talents of those who exhibit their handiwork. Throughout these 102 years, generations of county residents have felt community camaraderie and the spirit of unity while at the county fair. Reminiscences of sitting in the grandstand to watch various activities such as horse pulls, rodeos, demolition derbies, team events with the view of the majestic Manti Temple as a back drop will always be an indelible memory in the hearts and minds of fair goers. But it is now time to do some major renovations to the fairgrounds to enable the safe and continued tradition of our fair. Of greatest concern is the condition of the grandstand which at over 80 years old is in a state of nonrehabilitation. The master plan for the fairgrounds calls for a new arena and grandstand complete with a new concession stand and restrooms to better serve the patrons at the fair. A map of the proposed layout for the fairgrounds is included. You will note that the arena is being relocated to the north with the grandstand facing south. The reason for relocating the entire arena is to place the arena in a more central location for fairground activities and utilizing property to the north for parking. Our hope is to make events more accessible and allowing for better utilization of the property so more events can be scheduled thus promoting the economy of the county.
Significant efforts to acquire the necessary funding to support the fairgrounds renovation have already been accomplished. Sanpete County’s Municipal Building Authority was approved for a grant of $895,000 from the Permanent Community Impact Board. The George S. and Dolores Dore Eccles Foundation has awarded $150,000. We have also received $30,000 from the Heritage Highway 89 Foundation, Zions Bank generously awarded $40,000 and a private donor has pledged another $150,000. The entire project has been estimated to be $1,800,000. Our fundraising efforts are to raise the additional $535,000 needed to complete this project. Many of our local businesses donated items and services to an auction that we had in early June. It was successful in that we were able to raise $8,500 towards this project. In addition, we host an annual Motocross event in conjunction with Epic Moto, where all proceeds from this event will also be utilized for this project. Fair advocates Steven, Kathy Frischknecht named Grand Marshals Steven and Kathy Frischknecht of Manti have been chosen Grand Marshals of the 2016 Sanpete County Fair. Steve was born May 2, 1945, in Salina. His parents are Kay and Jean Frischknecht. He graduated from Manti High School and attended Snow College. Steve first worked for Cox Construction and for his dad in the sheep business, eventually raising some sheep of his own. Steve is a 21-year retiree from the Utah National Guard, where he served, full time, as a mechanic for 11 years. He then took over the King Dairy and has been running the dairy for 34 years. He has served on National and State Dairy Boards. He is on the Water Conservancy Board and the County Farm Bureau Board. Kathy was born May 10, 1945, in Ephraim. Her parents are Art and Ruth King. She also graduated from Manti High School and attended Snow College. She has worked as a clerk in three local stores and worked for a few years at a local sewing plant. She spent most of her time raising their children, working in the church and serving in school and community. Her greatest challenge came when they realized that their youngest son, Brian, was autistic and had Down’s Syndrome. For the family, the challenge took a lot of educating, time and work, but it became a wonderful blessing. Steve and Kathy met in junior high and became high school sweethearts. After Steve’s National Guard basic training, they were married in Manti. They have been married 51 years. They have five children: Corinne (Darrel) Olsen; Mike (Jennifer) Frischknecht; Suzy (Michael) Howell; Brian Frischknecht; and Erika (Greg) Duckwitz. They now have 18 grandchildren. The Frischknechts have always made Sanpete County Fair a family affair. Steve’s father served as the fairboard chairman. His mother was a fairboard member and was employed at the Sanpete County Extension Office, working in the 4-H program and working on the fairbook for many years. Kathy’s mother entered many prize winning items each year, in open class, at the exhibit building. Steve and Kathy, the next generation, always keep busy during the Sanpete County Fair. When Steve was a young boy, he entered sheep, showing them at the livestock show. He was president of FFA (Future Farmers of America) For the past 8 years, Steve has been a fairboard member, serving as Sanpete County Commissioner, assigned to the fairgrounds and the county fair. He has also served as a board member for the Utah State Fair for eight years. He furnishes animals each year for the Junior Rodeo and has donated funds and time to help make the county fair a success. Kathy is also a definite supporter of the Sanpete County Fair. She has always felt that it is a great activity to bring the family and county together. In her early years, she was a member of 4-H and entered projects for years. She then became a 4-H leader for the neighbor kids, her own children and grandchildren. She has been a volunteer, has served in the exhibit building, and has

helped in improvement projects and promotions for the fairgrounds. The following two Frischknecht generations have been very active in the Sanpete County Fair. Their children and grandchildren have been in 4-H, taught 4-H and have exhibited hundreds of articles in county and state. Over the years, daughters and granddaughters have been in the 4-H Style Revue. Grandsons have built benches and buildings for the fairgrounds. Kids and grandkids have participated in the livestock show, showing sheep and swine. When Steve was elected Sanpete County Commissioner he had a strong desire to see that the Sanpete County Fair had a hands-on exhibit to teach the youth about agriculture. Calan Olsen, a grandson, wanted to spearhead the program, so his parents, Corinne and Darrel, and their family worked hard to make that dream come true and it is now known as “Fun on the Farm.” Family members and friends have all worked as volunteers to run the 10 hand-built buildings during the fair. Even Grandpa Steve and Grandma Kathy get in on the action. With encouragement from the Sanpete County Commissioners, the fairboard has made improvements on the fairgrounds, including a new livestock barn, pavilion, etc. Plans for a complete renovation of the arena, grandstand and facilities are in the near future, and funds continue to be raised. For the Frischknechts, the Sanpete County Fair is a family affair. And for all citizens, it is an “Affair to Remember!”

Sanpete County Fair celebrates 102 years of traditions From “Wagon Wheels to Ferris Wheels” is this year’s theme for the 2016 Sanpete County Fair scheduled to run from Aug. 18 to 27 with a full scale of fun events and activities for the whole family. Pre-fair events begin Thursday, Aug. 4 at 1 p.m., with the Lil Miss Sanpete Pageant at Manti High School followed by the Outstanding Teen Pageant at 7 p.m., also at Manti High School. Friday, Aug. 5 at 6 p.m., the beauties of the county will vie for the crown during the annual Miss Sanpete Scholarship Pageant to be held at Manti High School. Saturday, Aug. 6, by 11:59 p.m., all 4-H fair exhibits must be entered in the online system. At 7 p.m., open horse show pre-registration ends. Thursday, Aug. 18, from 1-7 p.m., rodeo entry call-ins will be taken at RMPRA office by calling (719) 4860599 or at www.rmpraonline.com. At the arena at 4 p.m., 4-H horse show registration will begin; 4:30 horse show test; and at 5 p.m., horse show will take place. Friday, Aug. 19, 6 p.m., register for the Junior Rodeo by calling Zane Osborne at (801) 376-6973. Saturday, Aug. 20, 8:30 a.m., Open Horse Show books close. 10 a.m – 6 p.m., the Annual Sanpete Outdoor Expo will start off the opening weekend of the fair. At 11 a.m., sign-up for the all new CornHole Tournament by calling Davis at (435) 851-3348. At noon, there will be open swimming at the Manti City Pool. From 1-5 p.m., Open class and 4-H entries will be accepted at the Exhibit Building (except baked goods, vegetables and floral entries). At 1 p.m., the always delicious Dutch Oven Cook off will decide who is the best iron pot chef in the area while watching the new CornHole Tournament also taking place. At 7 p.m., the annual Fireman’s Challenge will decide the best of the best in area fire fighters, followed by

the chalk festival. From 6-9 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 21, Hometown entries for the exciting hide races will be accepted by calling Dell Jensen at (435) 469-0296. Monday, Aug. 22, open class baked goods and vegetables (except garden entries) will be accepted at the Exhibit Building. At 5 p.m., 4-H Livestock Barn set-up and test. At 7 p.m., Cowboy Poetry will be held at Manti High School. Tuesday, Aug. 23, 8-9 a.m., gardening and baked goods accepted at the Exhibit Building, however, the building will be closed for judging. At 6 p.m., watch the well trained horses and cowboys show talents during the Team Sorting event. Wednesday, Aug. 24. Entries for the open class florals will be taken at the Exhibit Building. From 2-8 p.m., the Exhibit Building will be open. From 5-8 p.m., Lamb, Swine and Market Beef will be received and weighed in. From 6-8 p.m., Ag Olympics will be held. At 7 p.m., the Pee-Wee Motor Barrel racing will be held at the arena. Thursday, Aug. 25, the day starts off at 9 a.m., with the swine judging and showmanship. From 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., take a stroll through the Exhibit
Building and Small Animal Barn to view the fine arts and crafts and the little animals. From noon to 5:30 p.m., entries for the Small Animal Poster Contest and small animal entries will be taken. At 1 p.m., lamb judging and showmanship begins. At 4 p.m., the much-awaited Brown Amusements opens on the midway and the open class showmanship for non-4-H and FFA for kids four and under and age five to seven. Be sure to catch the local talent shows at the pavilion before they end at 6 p.m. At 4-7 p.m., visit the Fun on the Farm exhibit and learn how to milk a cow or feed a turkey along with many other fun activities that teach kids just where their food comes from. At 6 p.m., kids will have to hold on tight during the annual mutton bustin’ before the grand entry at the rodeo that starts at 6:45 p.m., followed by the RMPRA Rodeo by Broken Heart Rodeo Company at 7 p.m. On Friday, Aug.26, the antique tractor show runs from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and the Small Animal Barn opens that morning too. At 2 p.m., open class pet show will be held at the pavilion. At 3 p.m., Brown’s Amusements opens with all the thrilling rides. From 4 to 6 p.m., local talent shows will be held at the pavilion. Fun on the Farm and Science Alliance continues until 7 p.m. At 6 p.m., Cruise Night Sock Hop will be held at Fred’s Drive-in. Smell the smoke and hear the crashes when the grand finale of the day begins, the everpopular Demolition Derby at 7 p.m. Sign-up for the 5K Fun Run at 6 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 27, at the pavilion. Race time starts at 7 a.m. At 8 a.m., the EMT Breakfast will feed those hearty appetites, Small Animal Barn also opens, and the antique tractor and farm equipment will run until 6 p.m. Signups for the car show ends at 10 a.m. If you missed the first breakfast
then head on over at 9 a.m., for the Livestock Buyer’s breakfast or take in the mud volleyball at the mud pit. At 11 a.m., the Exhibit Building opens until 8 p.m. Fun on the Farm and Science Alliance will continue until 5 p.m. At noon, the Cattleman’s Beef Dinner will be cookin’ at the pavilion. Brown’s Amusements will light up the midway and the small animal awards will be given. At 1 p.m., the annual Horse Pulling Competition will get under way. The Mud Scramble beckons those kids age three to 10 to find those cash prizes in the mud. At 3:30 p.m., the Pie Eating Contest
will be held at the pavilion. Car show awards will be presented at 4 p.m. At 5 p.m., the Mammoth Parade will make its way down Main Street to the fairgrounds. Small animal entries need to be picked up by 5 p.m. At 7 p.m, watch the Mutton Bustin’ just before the rodeo grand entry at 7:45 p.m. At 8 p.m., the exciting RMPRA Rodeo will be held closing another successful Sanpete County Fair. Scott Terry named 2016 King Cowboy The Sanpete County Fair is represented this year by Scott Terry, who has been selected as 2016 King Cowboy because of his sincere love of country life, Sanpete community and the cattle industry. He also marks a family tradition. His father, Lloyd Terry, was named the 1990 Sanpete County King Cowboy. Scott was born in Mt. Pleasant Jan. 27, 1953, to Lloyd and Evelynn Terry, Milburn, and is the fourth generation to run Terry Farms and Livestock, which has been actively raising beef cattle and horses for many years. In fact, the family brand dates all the way back to 1892. During his youth, he was raised with his two brothers and one sister while working the family dairy. He attended North Sanpete High School (NSHS) and was active with extra-curricular activities. He played football, participated in wrestling and track. On the NSHS stage, he was the male lead in three plays; Oklahoma, Guys and
Dolls and Showboat. Scott married his high school sweetheart, Wanda Christensen, Aug. 25, 1972. For the next several years he split his time working for Terry Farms and the mining industry for about 10 years and then the oil fields in California for 26 years, which included traveling the globe for Parker Drilling. His travels allowed him to visit at least 17 countries. For about 16 years, he traveled back and forth between the oil fields and the ranch. During much of this time, Wanda and children operated the ranch and helped Lloyd Terry with his cattle operation. In 1989 they moved back to Sanpete and continued raising their family in Milburn. They have been blessed with three children, Cody, Theresia and Sharleen, and in addition to that they have four grandchildren. Scott was very involved with activities with the children in 4-H, FFA, high school rodeo, and giving lectures

He feels great pleasure in helping the community, whether moving snow for neighbors with the tractor or helping a fellow cattleman troubleshoot broken down machinery. The year 2005 brought change to Terry Farms and Livestock as Scott left the oil business and took up ranching in Milburn full-time, which has brought growth and expansion to the business. Scott is honored to be selected as the King Cowboy for 2016.

Miss Sanpete Royalty sees change Time and personal decisions change history. At the end of September 2015, Whitney Timothy decided to step down as Miss Sanpete because she was called to serve in the Texas Houston East Spanish Speaking LDS Church Mission. As Whitney stepped down, First Attendant Madelyn Christenson (Madee), graciously stepped up
to take her place as Miss Sanpete County. Madee has soared as Miss Sanpete County. She took over the position and really implemented her platform, has served the community and jumped into preparations for Miss Utah, which occurred in June of this year. The revised 2015 – 16 royalty members are: Madelyn Christenson,
queen; Amelia Nell, first attendant; Emilie Bradley, second attendant; and Allyson Christenson, third attendant. The next top contestant was Madi Stevens who became the fourth attendant. The royalty committee is so grateful for the young women who do so much in the community and work with the directors.

Addelyn Brotherson served as 2015–16 Miss Sanpete Outstanding Teen Miss Sanpete County’s Outstanding Teen program is a great introduction for teens to get involved in the community, develop personal talents, other skills and work within the Miss America Program, as the sister to the Miss Sanpete County program. Last year an exceptional group of young ladies represented the area: Lindzey Harding, Rylee McKay, Jordan Hensen, McKenna Taylor and Addelyn Brotherson, queen. On July 28, 7 p.m., at Manti High School, a new royalty will be selected from eight young ladies representing all areas of Sanpete County. These ladies have worked hard to challenge themselves in the art of interview, talent, fitness wear and grace, within the evening wear portion of the competition. Addelyn Brotherson is the daughter of Jared and Liz Brotherson and sister to Lakely and Kortlyn, all of Wales. She was crowned Miss Sanpete’s Outstanding Teen 2015 in August of last year. Addelyn has been involved in a wide range of extra-curricular activities her whole life; such as taking dance, cheer, tumbling, piano lessons, playing softball, volleyball, and basketball. Addelyn is a “Diva Farm Girl” and lives on a farm with 26 horses, a herd of cows, two dogs and a few pigs, which she shows yearly at the local Sanpete County Fair. Being Miss Sanpete’s Outstanding Teen was a dream come true for Addelyn and gave her many experiences and memories that will last a lifetime. She was asked several times to be the Mistress of Ceremonies at local pageants, to share her talent, and promote her service platform. Addelyn’s service platform is “MISS Addie’s Team” where

“MISS” stands for “Mental Illness Silently Suffering”. Her purpose with this platform is to raise awareness, stop the stigma, and help improve the system. She created a website called missaddiesteam.com where individuals can go to take the Pledge to be stigma free, share stories, learn more about mental illness and the importance of mental health. The plan is to keep the website and platform growing and developing as she helps the community and perhaps even the world. “MISS Addie’s Team” has reached thousands of people through assemblies, seminars, and socially sharing her platform, which she continues doing today. As Miss Sanpete’s Outstanding Teen, Addelyn has been given the opportunity to compete in the Miss Utah Outstanding Teen pageant in September. Addelyn is excited and thrilled to have the opportunity to represent Utah and share her platform with as many people as she possibly can. Little Miss Sanpete County returns for 2016 Last year 43 young ladies, girls and even infants competed for Little Miss Sanpete County. The girls showcased casual wear outfits, to show personality, then party wear and an evening type dress to show grace and poise. Each contestant was then interviewed by the judges. Talent was optional but many competed. Contestants shared dance solos, piano pieces and vocal abilities through song. Each age division could have two queens and two attendants. Those who did not share a talent were also entered into the beauty awards. The 2016 pageant will be held at Manti High School Thursday, July 28, at 1 p.m. There is free admission for all and will include 35 young contestants. One change, only the Little Miss Division contestants will have interviews with the judges this year. The other contestants will be asked a question on stage. “It has been so much fun during practices, helping the young ladies find their way onto the stage, learning how to model and share their talents,” said Emily Cox, pageant director. Throughout the year, the 2015 royalties were present in many parades and of course at the county fair. All contestants receive a sparkly t-shirt, goodie bag and hopefully many new friends and memories. The goal of the Little Miss Committee is to encourage and help the young ladies to get out of their comfort zone, try something new, and have a lot of fun in the process. Open talent show draws local performers Visit Historic Spring City The local talent at the fair is an open talent show for any groups or individuals who would like to share their talents. The show gives local up-coming artists and performers an opportunity to perform and entertain others during the fair. The talent show is held on the stage under the pavilion on the south side of the fairgrounds and is free of charge. Shows are scheduled for three days on Thursday, Aug 25 from 4 to 6:30 p.m.; Friday, Aug. 26 from 4 to 6 p.m.; and Saturday, Aug. 27 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. All performers are welcome and encouraged to participate and the public is also welcome and encouraged to watch the amazing talent found in the county. Miss Sanpete County 2015 reminded us to “Just Don’t Start” On Aug. 5, one of twelve talented ladies will be selected as new Miss Sanpete County. This will take place at the Manti High School at 7 p.m. The committee is pleased to have all the cities within Sanpete County represented as these young women showcase their talents, desire to be of service and work toward challenging themselves and others to grow. Miss Sanpete 2015 was represented by Madelyn Christenson, Gunnison. She is the beautiful daughter of Bruce and Alice Christenson and represented the county well all year. While performing her duties she shared her platform about the prevention of substance abuse and how to “Just Don’t Start.” In June she prepared for Miss Utah and held a princess fundraiser. During her reign as Miss Sanpete, Madelyn has presented herself as a role model, someone to look up to for a hard work ethic. She has shown kindness and the ability to encourage others and bring out the best in others. She is also an amazing float builder!!

Here are Madee’s owns words to share how she has felt about this past year. “My year as Miss Sanpete has been an amazing and unforgettable experience. I have learned so much not only about myself, but how to serve others as well.” “A few of my favorite things, from my reign, have been our annual Mini Miss pageants, the parades, fixing up the float and preparing for Miss Utah. Of course Miss Utah was my favorite.” “It amazes me all of the wonderful people I’ve been able to come in contact with. This is a big reason why I love the Miss America program.” “I’ve loved serving with my attendants, Madi Stevens, fourth attendant; Allyson Christiansen, third attendant; Emilie Bradley, second attendant; and especially my first attendant Amelia Nell. I could not have done it without her!!” “I am so thankful for the opportunity I was given to serve Sanpete County with my platform P.E.P. (Prevent, Educate, Prepare) against substance abuse. My platform was such a big reason why I wanted to become
Miss Sanpete. I felt as if it was badly needed.” “I’ve seen loved ones struggle with substance abuse. I have felt the want to help them and realized that the best thing is to just prevent substance abuse, and “Just Don’t Start”. Right before my Grandpa passed away I often remember these few words he would tell me every time I saw him, “Give it Heck!” “Thank you Sanpete County, the fair board, commissioners and pageant directors for this year. Thank you for all of the experiences and memories I have to remember!!” We as a committee love and will miss Madee, we love to continue the Miss America program here locally where our young women can grow, earn scholarship money and serve within our community. Meet the three Jr. Princesses Baylee Burr Jr. Princess, Baylee Burr, Spring City, age 12, is the daughter of Robert and Jill Coombs. Baylee loves to take trips to Mesquite with her grandparents and two older brothers. When not riding her horse, she plays football with the boys. Baylee sets her goals high and has maintained straight A’s as an honor student. She wants to fulfill her dream of running her own salon and singing country music. First attendant, Justina Farley, Mt. Pleasant, age 10, is the daughter of Justin and Stacy Farley. She lives on a ranch and is a New Year’s baby. She loves all animals and has four ducks, a three-legged dog, and a lot of cats. Justina loves making new friends and has had a blast being in the Sanpete County Jr. Princess Rodeo Royalty. Sarah Everitt Second attendant, Sarah Everitt, Ephraim, age 12, is the third oldest daughter of Deric and Muria Everitt . She was born in New Hampshire and has lived on both sides of the country. Sarah loves horses and started riding four years ago. She participates in Western Horse 4-H for Sanpete County and enjoys all of her time in the saddle. She loves to read, sew, play soccer, the piano and to try new things. She will begin seventh grade this year at Ephraim Middle School and can’t wait! Sarah says she is grateful for the opportunity to serve the county as the Jr. Princess’s second attendant.

38th annual Open Pet show calls all-almost The question, “What is a pet?” can be answered simply and conciselywhatever. Who is to say that a mouse, spider, sneaky snake or a starling can’t be a pet? Smash! Boom! Bam! Demolition Derby action set for Friday, Aug. 26 From Wagon Wheels to no wheels on the ground, the Sanpete County Fair announces the 2016 Demolition Derby Friday, Aug. 26, 7 p.m., the fairgrounds arena will be transformed into a thrilling display of adrenaline-fueled destruction. The roar of engines. Smoke hanging in the air. Cheers mingling with boos from around the arena. The clang of metal on metal punctuated by the occasional hiss of steam from blown radiator hoses. Tires rolling, escaped from their axles. The entire family can enjoy the suspense and excitement of the evening and cheer for their favorite drivers. Great food will be available at the concession stands during the show to prevent hunger or thirst from hindering enjoyment. This nail-biting, breath-stealing, action-filled night is sure to leave anyone who attends eager for more, and impatient for next year’s event! Entertainment will include professional announcing from Monroe Magnuson and the antics of rodeo clown, Van Kelley. With a lot of clowning around you can expect the fun and hot action to get even hotter. The top drivers in each full-size car heat will compete for thousands of dollars during the main event. Those drivers who don’t make it into the main event will have one final opportunity to earn a prize during the grudge match. Prize money has increased this year to

include over $30,000 in cash and prizes including a 1975 Cadillac that is up for grabs. Prizes are as follows: OLD IRON: First place finisher in the final heat will take home $7,000 plus a helmet. Second place awarded $3,500 and a trophy; Third place will receive $2,000 and a trophy; Fourth place earns $1,000; and fifth place will receive $500. Any non-winning finalist will take home $200. 80s: In this heat the top two cars will advance to the main event, where they can compete for the big prizes and will take home $300 each. TRUCKS: First place $2,500 and a helmet; Second place earns $1,200; and third place will go home with $700. New this year is $500 for the most aggressive driver in the trucks category. MINI’s (cars with a wheelbase of 104” or less): First place is $1,200 and a helmet; Second place earns $600; with third place taking home $400. To ensure a fun derby the MAD “Most Aggressive Driver” will be awarded a 1975 Cadillac and a trophy, and cheers from the crowd. Get to know the Sweetheart Royalty Cassie Swapp
Sweetheart Cassie Swapp, Fairview, age 16, is a quick-witted, fun, social butterfly. She is the daughter of Josh and Cheryl Swapp. Besides competing in barrel racing at rodeos, she enjoys spending time outdoors; camping and trail riding, but hates fishing because it requires a lot of patience. Cassie will be a junior at North Sanpete High and a member of the speech and debate team and serves as vice president. She says she can handle her own in an argument. Upon graduation, she wants to go to China with the ILP program and teach English to Chinese children. She would also like to attend Utah State University and get a degree in the equine field. Amberly Snyder is a big inspiration to Cassie and she hopes to have the strength and determination that Amberly exhibits both physically and mentally. Cassie thanks everyone in Sanpete

First attendant Christina Malstrom, Manti, was born in Fairview. She has always loved animals, especially horses. It has been a pleasure for Christina to own three horses. She feels each horse has shaped her as much as she has shaped them. A girly girl, would not be the term used to describe Christina because she can go from makeup to mud in 60 seconds or less. She is a unique individual that moves to the beat of her own drum. Christina is currently working in the agriculture industry in Sanpete County, but her dream is to open a non-profit animal sanctuary. Sanpete County is her home sweet home. She says she is honored to represent the county as first attendant in the Sanpete County Sweetheart Rodeo Royalty.

Second attendant Kacey Cartright, Ephraim, age 16, is the daughter of Travis and Stacy Cartright. She is a cheerleader at Manti High School and will be a junior this year. She has a horse named TJ and loves doing anything in the outdoors; camping, riding dirt bikes, spending time with family and friends. Her favorite song is “Wasted Time,” by Keith Urban. When she graduates from high school, she would like to pursue a career in the medical field. Kacey can back a horse trailer better than the average girl. Her father had a rule she had to follow before she could get her driver’s license. Kacey had to be able to back the horse trailer, from the road in front of their house, to the backyard, and into a little parking spot, without stopping. Part of their fence was taken out and she went through a few tanks of gas, but she finally got it and now backs a trailer like a pro!

Get ready to rumble in the annual mud scramble Kids and mud are always a great combination. Add prizes to that and it makes for a fabulous afternoon of fun at 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 27. Broken Heart Rodeo appears again at fair Sanpete County welcomes Broken Heart Rodeo Company back to the fair. The ever-popular Broken Heart Rodeo returns to the Sanpete County Fair bringing an arena full of roping, riding and wrangling adventures. The rodeo will take place Thursday, Aug. 25 at 6:45 p.m., and Saturday, Aug. 27, at 7:45 p.m. The Aug. 27 event is scheduled a bit earlier to allow youngsters to be able to be up and brighteyed for school the next day. Broken Heart Rodeo Company is owned and operated by the Ben and Jennifer German family out of West Point. They run 300 head of horses and 80 head of bulls and have provided animals for National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas and top rodeos throughout Utah. The company has received stock contractor of the year awards with both Intermountain Profession Rodeo Association (IMPRA) and Rocky Mountain Pro Rodeo Association (RMPRA) in past years. Funny man Van Kelly, who will make his second appearance with Broken Heart, hails from Midway. He said his rodeo background runs muddy and deep, due to traveling with his father as he announced at rodeos throughout the western states. Kelly’s passion in life is still rodeo and he strives to bring that passion to each and every crowd on the circuit. He said, “Rodeo is my heritage and is grafted into my blood. Ever since I was a small child, I wanted to be a great clown and make people laugh, cheer and feel the rodeo.”

His respect for the sport, stock and participants runs deep and he feels humbled to be a small part of a great tradition. Kelly said he intends to keep rodeo the No. 1 sport in America and takes responsibility to make sure everyone in the crowd enjoys a rodeo, especially children. He is never too busy to give high fives or take pictures with those in the stands. He wants to be the glue that fills whatever gaps exist in the sport. Kelly is the father of three wild young boys and strives to keep them and their mother happy. In the past, Kelly has worked rodeos in Hooper, Riverton, Kamas, Richfield, Duchesne, Minersville, Wendover and Parumph, NV; and Weber and Iron County Fairs. He was 2013 Barrelman of the Year during the RMPRA finals. “I commit to provide a long-lasting impression on all the fans and athletes and to those fans who buy tickets for Saturday night because they had so much fun on Thursday,” he said. Strike a match, light the briquettes Competition heats up Dutch ovens Aug. 20 Prepare now to create that favorite Dutch oven dish using that wonderful family secret recipe. Be it a cobbler, casserole, brisket, beans, potatoes, or a sinful dessert; contestants will be going for top prizes in the annual Sanpete County Fair’s Dutch Oven Cook-off to be held Aug. 20, during the Sanpete Outdoor Expo. Don’t worry about a lack of expertise; come join in the Dutch oven food and fun for the afternoon. The cook-off will be held next to the pavilion at the fairgrounds in Manti. Dutch oven history Dutch ovens are a distinctive cooking pot which has thick walls, generally manufactured from cast iron. It can be cast iron with an enameled finish but in any case it has a tightfitting lid. Dutch ovens have been used for centuries within kitchens around the globe as a widely used cooking vessel. The phrase Dutch oven has been around and used for more than 300 years. During the 1600s the Dutch discovered a significantly better system for producing molds for casting the pots using sand, which makes the resulting pots have a far smoother surface area. Throughout the history of America the actual cooking pots have become shallower and legs have been added to better keep the pot above the hot coals on an open fire. Early colonists appreciated the flexibility and sturdiness associated with cast iron. In fact the ovens were regarded as being so useful, that early colonists entered them into their wills. Rapidly, this new oven came to

The truth is, the housewife seldom called for any other sort of pot, because the Dutch oven pot may be employed for boiling, frying, stewing, roasting as well as baking -- all in one. In 1704, a man named Abraham Darby traveled from England to Holland to inspect a Dutch casting process by which brass vessels where cast in dry sand molds. Upon returning to England, Darby experimented with the process and eventually patented a casting process using a better type of molding sand, as well as a process of baking the mold to improve casting smoothness. He eventually began casting pots and shipping them to the new colonies and throughout the world. Others have suggested that early Dutch traders or salesmen peddling cast iron pots may have given rise to the name “Dutch oven.” Still others believe that the name came from Dutch settlers in the Pennsylvania

Manti EMTs to cook breakfast for 15th year Members of the Manti Ambulance Association will cook breakfast for the 15th year for those early birds to enjoy after the Fun Run or for those who just want a great way to start the final day of the Sanpete County Fair, Saturday, Aug. 27, beginning at 8 a.m., in the pavilion. The annual breakfast has been an ongoing fundraiser for the ambulance association and also a chance for people to start the day with a good breakfast under their belts to give them enough energy to last them until the Cattleman’s Beef Feast at Noon. The meal is a full breakfast that includes eggs, bacon, pancakes, sausage, hash browns, milk and orange juice, all for a nominal cost. The breakfast is open to everyone, so gather the family and head to the fairgrounds to start the day off right.

Annual challenge soaks firemen One of the most crowd-pleasing events of the annual Sanpete County Fair is sure to be a drenching success. The Fireman’s Challenge will be held Saturday, Aug. 20, at 7 p.m., highlighting a day filled with all sorts of water fun, including the free swimming day at the Manti Aquatic Center. All fire departments from around the valley are eligible to participate in the challenge and can take home cash prizes and trophies. What looks like fun and games to the public is, in reality, life-saving training. Teams participate in timed events and drills; some involve a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA). This is an interactive event that will not only entertain, but educate with the hope of encouraging more people to volunteer for the local fire departments. Events are relay type, many of which showcase the fireman’s mastery of the equipment and life-saving skills. Water is a prominent feature of this event and there will be a
splash zone. So a word of caution; people sitting in the first few rows of the grandstands will likely get a bit damp, or perhaps quite soaked. Sponsors from local businesses will provide the cash jackpot to the winning fire department. One hundred percent of the money raised will go directly back to the fire departments. Manti Fire Department won the challenge in 2013 and 2014. The Wales Fire Department won the cash prize and traveling trophy last year. Come see who wins the challenge this year on Saturday, Aug. 20, in the fairground arena. The gates for the Fireman’s Challenge will open at 6:30 p.m., and the fun begins at 7 p.m. The first 75 people thru the gate receive a T-shirt. This has been a popular event in the past and this year’s challenge will be no different. Immediately following the Fireman’s Challenge, there will be the fourth annual Colored Chalk Festival.

Eight years of Fun on the Farm “Fun on the Farm” was a new exhibit, created by Calan Olsen, at the Sanpete County Fair seven years ago. It will be open again this year on Thursday and Friday, Aug. 25 and 26, 4 – 7 p.m., and Saturday, Aug. 27, 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. Kids in second grade and under need to be accompanied by an adult to visit Fun on the Farm. Fun on the Farm is located inside the fairgrounds behind the swimming pool and will offer fair visitors an opportunity to experience “hands-on” agricultural activities. Activities will include feeding turkeys, holding a live cockroach, milking a cow, learning the cuts of pork, collecting eggs, delivering hay, carding wool, branding a cow, etc. and will be free of charge to everyone. An estimated 2,000 visitors attend the exhibit each year. In the near future, a silo for seeds and grains will be added and some landscaping. There will be some new lawn this year
Baling hay, using a tractor to move the hay, stacking bales of hay, and collecting crops from the field is an important of part of life on the farm. These youth are practicing tractor driving and hauling, just one of the many fun activities at Fun on the Farm. and some of the buildings are getting a facelift! CornHole tournament added to fair activities A new activity, a CornHole Tournament, has been added to this year’s events at the Sanpete County Fair sponsored by the Utah CornHole Association. The tournament will be held Saturday, Aug 20. Sign-ups will begin at 11 a.m., with the tournament at 1 p.m., with double elimination. CornHole is a game played by two to four people. It is played by using two CornHole boards placed 33 feet apart from hole to hole. Opponents try to score points against each other by getting corn-filled bags either on the board (1 point) or in the hole (3 points). The first team to reach 21 points wins. Horseshoe Mountain Home Center hosts kid’s workshops Horseshoe Mountain Home Center will return to the Sanpete County Fair for the third year to sponsor a building workshop for kids. Last year, the event was well attended, so get there early. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, Aug. 27, at 10:30 a.m., on the grassy area in front of the Aquatic Center in Manti. Each participant will receive a wood project that volunteers or parents will help them to complete. They will also receive a treat when the project is completed. The event is for kids 12 and under and is free of charge. Children second grade and under should be accompanied by an adult. Fair board members express gratitude to Horseshoe Mountain Home Center for providing this wonderful activity for the fair.

I wonder, wonder, who? Mystery Person contest continues in Sanpete County Fair Book Somewhere in Sanpete County, there are three mysterious persons, just waiting to be discovered, one in the north end, one smack dab in the middle and one southerner. The contest is on, so put on those detective hats and turn on the brain power to search for clues throughout the fair book pages to discover who these three elusive characters are. Clues are in the ads, numbered 1, 2 and 3 with ten clues for each. Make a list for each person and make an educated or wild guess as to who they are to be eligible for a cash prize and maybe the grand prize of a weekend retreat. All ten clues must be listed, though they don’t have to be in any particular order. Each entry must be on a separate piece of paper and duplicates will be discarded. ‘Little Buckaroos’ see action at Junior Rodeo Once again the fair board is excited to bring back the Junior Rodeo for 2016. This rodeo will be held at 6 p.m., Friday Aug. 19, at the fairgrounds arena. The rodeo will include many events including mutton bustin’ for ages three-six. Entry fee is $5. There will be trophies for the top three riders, and the top six riders will be invited back to ride Thursday night as pre-rodeo entertainment with a winner takes all trophy presented to the top rider that night. Calf riding for ages seven to nine. The entry fee is $10. There will be a buckle for first place and trophies for second and third places. Next comes steer riding for ages 1013, with a $10 entry fee. Trophies will be presented to the top three riders that night and the top six riders will come back on Saturday as pre-rodeo entertainment for a winner take all buckle. This year a new division of mini bulls has been added. There will be six bulls each for ages 7-10 and 11-14. Entry fee is $50. There will be a buckle for the top rider in each age class and trophies for second and third places. There may be a possibility of cash prizes given along with the buckle and trophies for the mini bulls. Junior barrels will be held for ages 12 and under. Riders must be able to complete the pattern on their own without being led. Entry fee is $10. A buckle will be awarded for the top run and trophies for second and third places. Senior barrels will be held for ages 13-17, with an entry fee of $10. There will be a buckle for the top run and trophies for second and third places. Between events, all little cowboys and cowgirls will be encouraged to get in the game with several events including the money calf for ages nine and under and the money steer for ages 10 to 14. The calf or steer will be covered in money and candy for the kids to pull off if they are able to catch it. There will also be stick horse races. Remember to bring your own stick horse for this one. Last but not least is the barnyard scramble. Kids will have a chance to run down and keep a new barnyard pet. Entry fees are due the night of the rodeo from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., at the north entrance to the arena. This is where the wavier is signed and a participation number received. All paying participants will receive a t-shirt.

Old fashioned horse pull at the fair Don’t miss the chance to see real horse power in person and witness how farming was accomplished prior to the use of modern tractors. The Utah Horse Puller Association has returned for the 2016 Sanpete County Fair. Seeing beautifully matched pairs of horses with all the harness gear, that is used, is an awesome event to behold. The horse pull will once again be in the fairgrounds arena Saturday, Aug. 27, at 1 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. So find a good seat in the grandstands, settle in and enjoy. There are three weight classes the teams will compete in such as lightweights, middleweights and heavyweights. Prize money is paid to winners of each weight class. Association members are personable and will entertain questions about the horses and their training, along with the gear used. It can be an educational, as well as an entertaining, experience. The event has been a crowd-pleaser for years and is worthwhile to experience. Come out, enjoy and be amazed.

Coloring inside the lines Coloring contest winners named Elementary students across Sanpete County finished up the school year by entering the Sanpete County Fair Coloring Contest hosted by Andrew Olsen, Ephraim. Kindergarten through fifth grade classes from the county schools sent in 680 entries for a chance to win. The coloring contest was a simple line drawing created by Steven Olsen of Ephraim of a Fun on the Farm scene. Entries were judged on creativity, neatness, and color scheme. Five winners in each grade were selected in the coloring contest, and each will receive a Thursday night rodeo ticket and meal deal to be redeemed during the Sanpete County Fair. Judges were impressed by the large number of amazing entries received, which made choosing the winners difficult. Winning entries will be displayed in the Fun on Farm buildings at the Sanpete County Fair.

Bull War continues in third annual event The lucky business who wins the title will be proclaimed the “Best Bucking Business in Sanpete County” In 2014, Wendy Jo Jensen initiated a new way for Sanpete County Fair rodeo to give back to the community when she created an event called Bull Wars. Businesses “purchased” a bull that would carry their name into the arena while trying to get that pesky rider off their back. The winning bull with the highest score earned over both rodeo nights will earn $500 and the title of being the “Best Bucking Business in Sanpete County”. The winner will be announced during the Saturday evening performance of the rodeo, Aug. 28.

Watch practical ranching techniques during annual Team Sorting event Tuesday, Aug. 23 at 6 p.m. Practical ranching experience comes to the rodeo arena as part of the Sanpete County Fair. Team sorting, while not a rodeo sport, demonstrates just how ranchers sort cattle. Witness just how cowboys can separate cattle in this free spectator event. In team sorting, competitors have 75 seconds to sort 10 head of cattle from one holding pen, through a gate (or “hole”) into another holding pen. The trick is they have to sort them in a specific order. Time starts when the announcer calls a number. Each of the cattle are labeled with a number, 0-9, and the competitors must pen the animal marked with the number called by the announcer and then continue in numerical order until all cattle are sorted. This year, the event includes four different classes – Youth Class where riders are ages 14 and younger, Open Class where anybody can enter, and Pro-Am Class where one team member is a professional and the other is an amateur, and Mix Class where one
rider is male and the other female, or both riders are female. A pro is someone who has experience competing in events before. An amateur is a rider who hasn’t competed in the event before, or who has but hasn’t yet won any prizes. Locals are encouraged to sign up for this event. All riders are welcome and there are always riders looking for partners, therefore there is always someone to ride with. This year the event will start out with the youth class to be sure that they get finished at an earlier time to attend school the next day. In each class two riders make a team, except in the youth class, in which a team is made up of either two youth ages 14 or younger and one adult, or three youth ages 14 and younger. If an adult is present, his or her position is to watch the gate and coach the youth. Winners of each competition class will receive a cash award along with a trophy jacket valued at more than $100.
Winners of each competition class in the Sanpete County Fair team sorting event earn cash and a ‘Team Sorting’ jacket worth $100. Entry fees are $20 per rider in the open class and $10 per rider in all other classes. Riders can enter the competition as many times as they want as long as they change partners, so the same team doesn’t compete twice. Science Alliance returns bringing more fun to the fair Created by Steven Olsen and his dad, Darrel, the Science Alliance exhibit has returned to the fair and is still free of charge. The exhibit was created out of the Olsen family’s love for science and gives them a chance to share with others through hands-on activities that teach various science principles. The exhibit is located by Fun on the Farm and will be open on Friday, Aug. 26, from 4 – 7 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 27, from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. Science Alliance will close for the parade and will not reopen after the parade. One of the many fun activities is a giant maze where participants have to work together to get the ball successfully through a maze without the ball falling in the holes. There is also a giant bubble maker, crazy mirrors, and many other fun hands-on activities. Live demonstrations of science principles will be held at various times on Saturday. Watch for times posted at the Science Alliance tent.

Beef is what’s for dinner The Sanpete Cattlemen’s Association would like to welcome everyone to the annual Beef Feast – a traditional steak fry featuring some of the best meat found in Sanpete County. Beef producers enjoy showcasing their products for friends and neighbors in Sanpete as well as to visitors to the area making the Beef Feast a fair tradition for many families. The Beef Feast, scheduled for noon, Saturday, Aug. 29, in front of the Exhibit Building, will include 400 succulent New York strip steaks. Side dishes vary from year-to-year and when the steaks are gone the feast is over. There is a small cost. Lines begin forming early and are steady for a couple hours, so come early and come hungry. If someone hasn’t had the opportunity of enjoying this event, stop by and find out why so many line up for lunch every year.
“Chefs” from Sanpete Catttlemen’s Association tend to business as they get ready to serve 400 New York strip steaks during the annual Beef Feast. The 2015 event will be held in front of the Exhibit Building at noon, Saturday, Aug. 29. Better get there early because when the steaks are gone, they are gone.

Creative Displays in the Exhibit Building Come to the exhibit building to see and enjoy the many talents of the people of Sanpete County. Entries are still welcome. Photographs are limited to two per person, and two quilts to a person (depending on the room available for more quilts than that). Quilts should be hand-stitched or machine-stitched – tied quilts are discouraged. Quilts will be displayed on racks donated by Ephraim City. For more information, contact Sandi Schoppe at (435) 851-4322. Exhibits range from fine arts (oil, watercolor, chalk, pencil art), string art, Legos, wood carving and burning, woodworking, leather work, crochet, sewing, cross stitch, porcelain dolls, ceramics, quilting, latch hook, furniture finishing, fresh flowers and potted plants, fresh fruits and vegetables from your gardens, bottled goods, and more. If there is no category for the entry, one will be made to accommodate an entry.
Ribbons will be awarded for each entry. Along with the red, blue and sweepstakes ribbons, there will be three additional awards: Judges Choice, People’s Choice, and Best of Show. There will be voting slips for the people’s choice at the desk in the exhibit building. Saturday, Aug. 20, 1 – 5 p.m. Entries will be accepted. Ephraim City has donated the use of their hanging quilt frames so all quilts will be displayed properly and protected. Monday, Aug. 22, 3 – 6 p.m., baked goods and vegetables will be accepted. Tuesday, Aug. 23, closed for judging. Wednesday, Aug. 24, 9 a.m. – 11 a.m., open class floral displays will be accepted. Exhibit building will be open 2 – 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, open 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, open 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, open 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29, pick-up entries 3 – 6 p.m. Entries not picked up will be discarded.

Young people show off animals during junior livestock show The Sanpete County Junior Livestock Show begins with the weigh-in 5-8 p.m.; Wednesday, Aug. 24. The show is held Thursday and Friday, Aug. 25 and 26 and the sale held on Saturday, Aug. 27. In the mid 1980s, only lambs were shown in the livestock show then after 10 to 12 years, a beef class was added. Today, classes include beef, swine, lambs and new this year a heifer class has been added. “This is a great opportunity for young people. It teaches
them great responsibility and leadership skills. Along with those life lessons, premium prices are received for their animals. Usually boost prices are received that can be several hundred dollars above market prices for grand and reserve champion animals,” said Larry Young, event organizer. There has also been an interest expressed in having a meat goat class. If anyone would like to see that class included, offer a suggestion to the livestock committee. RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR THE 2016 SANPETE COUNTY FAIR DEMOLITION DERBY
RULES APPLY TO BOTH OLD IRON, TRUCKS AND MINI CARS 1. We reserve the right to refuse entering any vehicle for just cause. All inspectors’ and judges’ decisions are final. 2. Frames and body’s model of passenger car or station wagon may be used. No 73 or older Imperials, Lebarons. No Ambulances, Hearses, Sedagons, Limousines, convertibles or four wheel drives allowed. Mini car wheel base must not exceed 104” (measurement taken from center of rear hub to center of front hub). NO V8 Engines in the mini car class. 3. The hood will remain in original position. Pucks can be removed. No added weight except for the welding. Only one of the following filler materials may be used for welding: Up to 1/2” round steel or rebar OR 2” x 1/4” flat strap. Doors, hood and trunk must be welded, NO CHAINING OR BOLTING One of the following may be used; stock O.E.M. bumpers off of any passenger car, aftermarket bumpers may be used but a maximum of 5”x 5”x 3/16” square tube. Must be straight open-ended square tube and cannot extend more than 12” outside of frame. In addition, a point may be added using the same material but may not exceed 12” from the back edge of the square tube. Only one bumper bracket per frame rail is allowed this applies to the rear bumper bracket as well. You may use pipe in place of shock tubes, pipe up to 3” O.D. and 1/8” wall and 18” long max pipe must be open on one side. Bumpers can be welded or chained to the frame. Only two chains may be used. Chain may loop through the hood or trunk. Excessive chaining (more than 2 wraps) will not be allowed. No chain may be welded at any point to the frame or body. 4. No kickers may be used. Kickers are two straight pieces of 2”x 2” pipe or tube that are welded to your front side of your dash bar and go thru the firewall and welded to the top of the frame near the A arm. For 80’s ONLY, if using kickers you will run with the old iron cars. 5. Strapping may be used instead of chain from the top of the hood and the trunk to the bumpers. The strapping cannot be any larger than 2” wide by 1/4” thick. It may not extend past the bumper onto the frame. Only use two straps per hood and trunk. If the strapping is any bigger than this you will cut it. 6. No painting or undercoating may be used underneath the car. Engine compartment should be grease free. 7. Only air may be used to inflate your tire. 8. All cars must exhibit the ability to stop before entering the arena. If a car looses its braking ability it will be subject to disqualification. 9. Any engine and transmission combination may be used in any car, but must be mounted within 5” of the original motor. Must be mounted securely. Distributor protectors or full engine cradles are not allowed. You may cut a hole in the firewall to accommodate the engine within reason. However, it must be covered to prevent a fire hazard. 10. Holes left in the firewall from removing the dash and heater must be covered to prevent fire hazards. 11. No holes will be allowed in the floor of the car except to accommodate the transmission shifter, fuel and transmission lines and wiring. Shifters may be welded or bolted. Patching holes is for safety not reinforcement. If patching rust holes you may use sheet metal only, not to exceed 2” past rusted area. 12. Motor mounts may be welded; transmission and motors may be chained. If making motor mounts to raise, shift, or to use different motor in different car, mounts cannot exceed original footprint of motor mount. (Approximately 5” X 5”) 13. Any 5 or 8 lug rear end may be used. Rear end may not strengthen body or frame of car in any way. 14. Chain cannot be larger than 3/8”. Bolts must be 3/8” and no longer than 6 inches. Washers cannot exceed 1” diameter. 15. All glass and outside hardware must be removed. Rear seat and all flammable material must be removed from inside the car. All dash glass and plastic must be removed or taped. 16. Cut an 8” hole in the hood and the trunk for inspection and fire safety. One six inch hole must be cut in the hood of a mini car. 17. Fire wall, radiator, and air filter must be left in original place. Air filter must remain on the car at all times. Water only in radiator. NO antifreeze. 18. Batteries must be moved and mounted to passenger floor and four ways bolted down. Battery must be covered. 19. Seven gallons of gas maximum. Factory gas tanks must be removed. A marine type tank or fuel cell must be used. Fuel tank must be barricaded from the driver with tin or rubber. Gas line to tank must have a fitting. Please make these safe!! 20. All interior bars may not exceed a 6” outside diameter or a have greater than 10” X 10” X 1/2” end plates. Bars must be straight with no contoured pieces and have a minimum 1/8” wall thickness. All bars must be welded in place. No bolting allowed. One bar on the front window running from the roof down to the cowl or front dashboard bar is mandatory. No more than two bars may be used. 21. A bar behind the seat is mandatory. It must be located no more than 6” from the final resting position of your seat. 22. An optional bar may be put in the front where the dashboard was located, in between the front door posts. You may weld a connecting bar on the inside of the driver’s and passenger door only from the front bar to the rear bar creating in essence a box. The bar on the passenger side must be 6 inches in from the door. DO NOT WELD ANY OF THESE BARS TO THE FRAME. 23. Suspension must be original factory for models of car. (No pulling shocks and putting pipes in their place). You may not clamp the shocks. No solid suspension. Suspension must work. No truck leaf springs allowed. 5/16” max thickness, 2 ½” wide maximum. No air shocks may be used. Frame repairs on pre-run cars are allowed to repair damaged areas of the frame using eight total 6” by 4” max ¼” thick pates, plates may be bent and cut but excess may not be used elsewhere plates and weld must be separated by 1’’ 24. Driver’s door and post must be padded. Front seat must be safely secured. 25. Drivers must wear a D.O.T. approved full-faced crash helmet. EYE PROTECTION IS REQUIRED. One red flag 10” X 10” to wave in case of injury. Seat belts are MANDATORY. Neck braces are recommended. 26. Electric fuel pumps will only be allowed with a master disconnect switch installed on the dash in front of the steering wheel. No starting fluid is allowed. 27. Only one driver allowed per car. Drivers must stay in their safety belts at all times during the competition with your helmet on, even if you are out of time. 28. NO DRIVER DOOR HITS. Cars entering the arena must compete at all times, 2 minute time limit. A legal hit is ½ a car length, rocking will not be considered a hit. “Sandbaggers” will be disqualified. Two fires and you are out. Any car rolled over will be out of competition, car will up-righted and driver removed from the arena. The officials reserve the right to disqualify any driver for careless and unsafe driving!!! 29. ALCOLHOL AND DRUG CONSUMPTION IN THE PIT AREA WILL NOT BE TOLERATED! 30. Shiny, restored cars showcased at Sanpete County Fair This year marks the 27th year of car show participation at the Sanpete County Fair. The car show will be held Friday and Saturday, Aug. 26 and 27. A “Cruise Night Sock Hop” will be held from 6 to 10 p.m., at Fred’s Drive-In to showcase some of the beautifully restored cars. Car show registrations will be taken until 8:30 p.m
