Good afternoon and welcome to the Chigwell Construction Stadium, I hope you are all keeping safe and well. I’d like to extend a warm welcome to Alan Dowson and his backroom staff ahead of this afternoon’s game. On Barnet win

I thought we were excellent from start to finish to be honest. I thought we controlled the game, we moved the ball really well and we defended their counter attack really well. All round, I thought it was a very good performance from the boys.

I am delighted. It is easy for me because I see him every day, but he has been terrific. Him and Angelo have formed a really good partnership over the last two months, even in training. In the first half against Barnet, some of their play together was excellent and I am delighted that Macca has got another goal. On Matt Robinson

We were right behind it in the dugout, and it was a terrific finish. He did not smash it, he did not lash at the ball, he just passed it into the top corner. It was great technique to drop it in from Robbo and I think that is six for the season for him, so he is in great form right now and long may that continue.

I think it is good that he has got a different finish in his locker. I remember that he scored a

goal like that from outside the box against Notts County but this one was so much better. His goal against Barnet was a terrific finish but there was also some good football before it as well. On Dean Rance and Mo Sagaf

For Dean it does not look good. It looks like it is going to be a ligament injury. The way he landed, he hyperextended his knee, and he is not one to want to come off or go down easily, so that is a worry. For Mo, he took a kick on his foot and he left Barnet with a boot on so he will be unavailable for today, but hopefully it is not too bad. On Woking game

The boys came in on Sunday, we dissected the game against Barnet and now we are looking forward to today’s game against Woking. They have changed formation in the last few weeks which makes things tricky. They have played a 3-5-2 with a diamond in midfield so we will see what system they played against Weymouth and we will prepare for the game as we always do, getting to know their strengths and weaknesses so we can try to influence our game on Woking.

Charlie Cooper Charlie joined Woking last summer from FC Halifax Town, for whom he made 30 appearances last season, helping them reach the play-offs. He started his senior career at Birmingham City and spent two seasons with the Championship club, enjoying time on loan at Forest Green Rovers, where he made 28 appearances during the 2016/17 campaign as the Gloucestershire side sealed promotion to the Football League. He joined FGR permanently that summer, with loan spells with Newport County and Boreham Wood, before he joined Halifax.

Josh Casey Josh, a natural leader and an industrious left-sided defender, is Woking’s club captain and joined the club in 2018. He began his career with Aldershot in 2009 and then spent two years with the Kingstonian reaching a play-off semifinal, before moving to Hampton in 2015 where he stayed for three seasons winning promotion to the National League South in his first season. Jack Cook Jack is a versatile defender and quickly formed a successful defensive partnership alongside Ben Gerring. Despite his success at the heart of the Woking defence, he would end the year as a right-back, as the Cards clinched promotion. He continued in his new role last campaign where he became one of the team’s most consistent performers. The defender began his career at Charlton Athletic, before leaving the professional game to focus on his studies at Brighton University. During his time at University, he continued to play for Worthing, leading to him joining Hampton in 2017. 06 THE DAGGER

Ben Gerring Ben originally joined the Cards in October 2018, finishing the season with promotion as Woking tasted victory in the National League South play-offs, whilst his performances also saw him voted into the division’s team of the year. He started his senior career with Weymouth back in 2010, after leaving boyhood club Plymouth Argyle. He then spent the best part of two seasons with Torquay, twice helping the club steer clear of the bottom four with a late run of form. However, loan spells at Truro and Weston-super-Mare followed before a permanent move to Cornwall in the summer of 2017. Moussa Diarra The giant left-sided centre-back first joined Woking in March 2019 and he went on to make a total of 13 appearances, scoring twice. He signed a permanent deal that summer and was one of the standout players on the club's return to the National League, playing in 35 games. Diarra began his career with St Albans City and Hemel Hempstead Town, before joining Hampton in 2015. In his only full season with the Beavers, he scored 14 goals in 52 games in all competitions, as Hampton were promoted from the Isthmian League Premier Division. His form earned him a move to Barrow the following season, helping them reach

the play-offs. He joined Dover Athletic in the summer of 2018 but moved on loan to Woking before making the move permanent four months later. Last summer he joined Havant & Waterlooville, before returning to the Cards. Jonté Smith The Bermudan international last played for League 2 side Cheltenham Town. A regular goalscorer throughout his career, he earned his first professional contract at Sutton United in 2010, where his exploits for the club's Under18 side earned him a move to Crawley Town. Whilst at Crawley he enjoyed a loan spell with Finnish team PS Kemi who signed him permanently in 2014. After 22 goals in 28 games, he joined Flekkerøy in Norway, before returning to England with Gloucester City. Several short-term deals followed before he settled at Lewes in 2016. He enjoyed three prolific years with the Rooks, scoring 66 league goals, before joining Oxford United and then Cheltenham.

Max Kretzschmar Max originally moved to the Cards in 2016, joining from Wycombe Wanderers, making 24 appearances. After a one-year absence he returned to the club in 2018 and finished as the Club’s top goalscorer in the Cards’ National League South promotion winning campaign. He started his career with Wycombe, where he graduated from the club’s academy, playing 85 times for the Chairboys’ across a threeyear period. After a year with Woking he joined Hampton & Richmond Borough where he scored 20 times in all competitions, helping the club reach the play-off final, ultimately losing to Braintree Town, before leaving to join Woking ahead of 2018/19. Matt Jarvis Jarvis launched his comeback in February 2020 after nearly five years of injury problems. He scored with his first touch in a Woking shirt after coming off the bench in a 2-0 home win over Maidenhead United. Matt started his career with Gillingham, making his Football League debut aged just 17 making over 100 appearances for the club during a four-year spell, earning a place in the League One PFA Team of the Year, before Wolves swooped in 2007. He was a key part of the side which won the second tier and promotion to the Premier League in 2009, whilst he was voted the Fans’ and Players’ Player of the Year in 2011. He spent just over five years with the club,

making 175 appearances, scoring 21 goals, as well as playing the final 20 minutes for England against Ghana at Wembley in 2011. From Wolves, he moved to West Ham United in 2012, and then Norwich City in 2015 including a short loan spell with Walsall at the start of 2019 which saw him finally return to the pitch before joining the Cards. Craig Ross Craig is a former Woking academy graduate who returned to the club after a ten-year absence in 2018 and his exploits during the shortened 2019/20 season, won him three of the end of season awards. After a short stint with Farnborough, he spent close to two years with Whitehawk, reaching a playoff semi-final in 2016, and subsequently earning a move to Macclesfield. The Football League beckoned twelve months later, as he made 38 appearances in all competitions for Barnet, but he was ultimately unable to prevent their relegation. He started the 2018/19 campaign at Leatherhead before returning to Woking. Jack Skinner Jack signed for the first team in the summer of 2019, after graduating from the club's academy. Originally based in St Albans, he participated in a college programme with Luton Town, before relocating to Surrey four years later. It was here that he joined the Woking academy, coming straight into the

Under-23 team. Last season he was able to gain valuable experience with loan spells at Hampton & Richmond and Eastbourne. Kyran Lofthouse Kyran joined Woking in late October on a short-term loan deal. The pacey wide player made two appearances for the U's this season before leaving on loan Last season he spent time on loan at Oxford City in National League South, where he played 17 times in all competitions. Sam Evans Sam is a second-year academy player who signed with the first team last summer. He enjoyed an impressive first year with the club’s youth team, scoring 14 times in 30 appearances where his performances caught the eye of Alan Dowson. Zach Robinson Zach joined the Cards on a short-term loan deal until the end of the season last month. The promising young striker has made seven first-team appearances for his parent club, AFC Wimbledon, scoring once. Tommy Block A defensive midfield player also capable of dropping into defence, he joined Woking from Scottish Premiership side Hibernian. He spent the bulk of the shortened 2019/20 season on loan at Queen’s Park where he made 20

KEYMAN KANE FERDINAND A talented box-to-box midfielder, he first joined the club in December 2016 on a short-term deal. Ferdinand earned a new contract under incoming manager Anthony Limbrick and he was a near ever-present, making 50 appearances in all competitions scoring four goals. Whilst Woking were relegated, Ferdinand picked up the club’s Players' Player of the Year award. He stayed on with new manager Alan Dowson in 2018 where the midfielder played a crucial role in the Cards’ play-off victories over Wealdstone and Welling United in the 18/19 campaign and has been with the Cards the past two campaigns. The midfielder began his senior career at Southend United in 2010, making more than 60 appearances in League Two. A move to Peterborough United followed in 2012 where he made 32 appearances during his debut campaign. Over the next two years, following Peterborough’s relegation to League One, his appearances were more limited, and he spent time on loan at Northampton Town, Luton Town, and Cheltenham Town. He joined the Daggers in 2015 before signing with East Thurrock in September, joining Woking three months later. DAGGERS.CO.UK

appearances. Tommy started his senior career with Pagham before joining hometown club Bognor Regis Town in 2017, helping the Rocks seal promotion to National League South. He became a first-team regular in a challenging 2017/18 campaign, making 38 appearances as Bognor battled unsuccessfully against relegation from the sixth tier and he made a move back to Scotland in January 2019. Leo Hamblin Leo is a second-year academy player who was awarded a contract last summer after impressing in pre-season. A versatile defender, he was amongst the youth team’s standout players during the shortened 2019/20 campaign, winning the first years’ Player of the Year Award. Jamar Loza Jamar joined Woking for a third time in December 2020. Having previously enjoyed two successful loan spells with the club during the past two seasons, Loza then signed an 18-month contract. The speedy wide man first joined the Cards from Maidstone United during the 2018/19 campaign, where his goals helped Woking earn promotion from the

National League South, and Jamar returned in September 2019, from Chelmsford City. The Jamaican international began his career with Norwich City for whom he made six first-team appearances and he enjoyed several loan spells with clubs in the Football League, before he eventually settled on a permanent basis at Maidstone, joining the National League club in 2015. At the end of the season, he moved to newly promoted National League side King's Lynn Town, and impressed with four goals, before signing for the Cards. Joe Leslie Joe signed for the Cards last summer joining from League Two side Stevenage, whom he joined as a first-year academy player back in 2017. Last season he starred on loan at Biggleswade FC, scoring six goals in 14 appearances. Sam Dalby Sam joined the Cards in March on loan from Watford on a deal until the end of the season. The striker, started his career at Leyton Orient, making his first start on Boxing Day 2016, and scoring in a 3-2 win. In January 2018 he was signed by Leeds United, after 18 months

with the Whites, he moved to Vicarage Road and earlier this season spent a month on loan with Stockport. Mark Smith Mark started his senior career at Brentford before joining Aldershot Town in 2016. He made a handful of appearances for the Shots in the National League before becoming a regular at Eastbourne Borough in the National League South. After a brief spell with Billericay Town, he joined Dartford, where he spent the 2019/20 campaign, before leaving at the end of the season. Paul Hodges A versatile forward, and often used as an impact player, he made 46 appearances during the 2018/19 season, scoring seven times with a further 21 appearances last campaign. After spending time with Reading as a teenager he played part-time for Hartley Wintney, for whom he scored 30 goals the season before joining Woking. He joined Slough Town, of the National League South, part way through last season and helped the Rebels reach the end of season play-offs.

It's been a long time coming for myself and Macca (Paul McCallum) to really hit our stride, which I think we're now doing - so long may it continue. I’m sure he was delighted to score against his former club in Barnet, and hopefully he continues putting them in the back of the net for the rest of this season. Football is a confidence sport and for players it’s really important, hence why you can see results and performances have been there in the past two months. Hopefully we can continue that with another top performance against Woking and beyond that into the final few games of the season. Goals either side of the half from Paul McCallum and Matt Robinson secured the Daggers a 2-0 win over struggling Barnet on Saturday. McCallum gave Dagenham the lead after 37 minutes of play, converting from close range after Will Wright’s corner was flicked on at the near post. Robinson added a second for the visitors in the 56th minute, curling the ball into the top corner beyond Watford loanee Adam Parkes. The men in Amber struggled to break the Daggers down, as the Bees were limited to half chances on Elliot Justham’s goal. And with McMahon’s men controlling the final stages of the game, they comfortably held on for all three points. After a quiet opening couple of minutes from both sides, the Daggers looked to put the Bees’ defence under pressure and in the fifth minute, Mauro Vilhete cut inside his man before seeing his shot blocked well by Barnet captain Matt Preston. 14 THE DAGGER

Having made several changes to his starting eleven, Darryl McMahon was forced to make use of his bench after only 15 minutes, bringing on Joey Jones to replace Dean Rance, with the midfielder unable to continue following a strong challenge from Courtney BakerRichardson. Both sides were struggling to create many clear-cut chances but in the 21st minute, the visitors had a golden opportunity to take the lead. Winning the ball back in the middle of the pitch, Robinson’s ball was flicked on by Angelo Balanta, sending McCallum through on goal, but the Barnet ‘keeper got down low to tip the ball around the post. Just past the half hour mark, the Daggers were looking the more likely side to score and after a deep cross into the box was partially cleared by the Barnet defence, Angelo Balanta was able to collect the ball on the edge of the area and fire at goal. However, his shot was straight down the throat of Watford loanee Adam Parkes. With a number of former Barnet players in his side, McMahon would have been

pleased to see one of them hand Dagenham the lead in the 37th minute. After a Wright corner was flicked on at the near post, McCallum was in the right place at the right time to prod the ball home from close range. Five minutes before the break, Robinson almost doubled the visitors lead with a spectacular effort from 20-yards out. After a defensive clearance rolled right into his path, the in-form midfielder could only bend the ball agonisingly wide of the keeper’s right-hand post. Barnet were beginning to struggle as wave after wave of attack crashed against their overworked defence. In first half added time, Wright went on a marauding run, dribbling past the Bees’ left-back, before firing in a dangerous cross which no-one in white could get on the end of. Seconds before the referee called an end to the half, Simon Bassey’s men were awarded a free-kick just on the edge of the Daggers’ penalty area, after Vilhete brought his man down. With a great chance to level the game against the run of play, Alex McQueen was wasteful with his set piece, firing the ball low into the wall.

Carrying on from where they left off, the visitors set about getting a second goal straight away and in the 46th minute, great play by Vilhete allowed him the opportunity to take aim at the top-left corner of the net from the corner of the box. However, having joined on an emergency loan only days ago, Parkes pulled off an outstanding save to keep the Bees in the game. The hosts were able to settle after a nervy opening couple of minutes, but they were struggling to create much in the final third as the Dagenham defence stood strong when called upon. Only moments later, a fine team move from McMahon’s side resulted in the second goal of the game, as Vilhete’s pass was touched into the path of Robinson, who took aim at the top-right corner from outside the area, curling the ball beyond the outstretched arm of Parkes. Approaching the final twenty minutes, Dagenham had the hosts penned back in their own half as they went in search of a third goal. In the 67th minute, Joey Jones’ tremendous cross looked to have found McCallum at the far post, but he was unable to connect with the ball. Turning to his bench, Bassey brought on Vasiliou and Adeloye, the latter of which creating the Bees best chance of the game with ten minutes left to play. Drifting into the box, the striker had his eyes set on a deep ball to the far post, but Elliot Johnson’s vital header prevented the former East Kilbride attacker from troubling Justham. But with little time remaining, the Daggers comfortably held on for a win which carried them up to 11th in the Vanarama National League table.

KENNY CLARK SPEAKS ABOUT WHAT AWAITS THE DAGGERS AHEAD OF OUR BANK HOLIDAY MONDAY MEETING AGAINST WOKING.

What exactly does it take for a team to become successful? Unsurprisingly, the answer is not simply a matter of having good individual players, although that does help. It is much more about the strength of the overall group and how well they function as a unit.

The last couple of games have certainly highlighted just how impressive a group we have in that changing room, with plenty of goals and defensive improvements helping us to climb further up the National League table.

Speaking about the Daggers improvements over the second half of the season, defender Kenny Clark was quick to highlight just how important the togetherness of the group was in getting the right results on the pitch. “There is a good buzz around the changing room and training has been really good,” explained the experienced defender ahead of the game on Bank Holiday Monday. “When you come away from an away win with three goals and a clean sheet, it is just everything that you could ask for.

“The gaffer said yesterday that this is the first time that the club has won three games on the bounce in well over a year, which is nowhere near good enough, but it is good to get this run going and long may it continue.

“I think this has been building for a while now. Maybe it has been a bit too long but there is a real togetherness. I said it in my last interview that there is this hunger and desire that is really pushing this team at the moment.” A key factor behind the recent good performances has been the form of striker duo Paul McCallum and Angelo Balanta, who both found the back of the net in the 3-0 win over King’s Lynn Town, alongside Matt Robinson, who has discovered his goal scoring touch this season.

“You can just see the relationship that Angelo and Macca are forming, they are getting the goals and then you have got Robbo who has been excellent since he has come back in, and he has been helping with a few goals,” said the Daggers centre back. “I feel that all around, not just in those three individuals, there was a real collective performance that we have

been waiting for. We have shown what we are capable of and now we just need to maintain those levels.”

But while scoring goals at one end of the pitch is always going to be important, keeping them out at the other end it essential. Recently, after struggling earlier in the season, the Daggers defence has been in imperious form, keeping clean sheets against Eastleigh and King’s Lynn Town.

Clark believes that consistency and having strength in depth has been the key behind the Daggers more recent defensive improvements. “I think whether you are in a back three or back four, when you are consistently together as a group, you start building relationships and you start building that consistency,” he explained. “On the other hand, you know that you have got players like Luke Croll, Callum Reynolds, Andy Eleftheriou who are all just chomping at the bit to take your shirt, it means there is healthy competition.”

With Dagenham hitting form at just the right time, the focus is now turned towards Woking who, despite struggling for form over the last couple of weeks, will no doubt pose a threat towards our hopes of extending the season beyond the end of May. Finding themselves near the bottom of the league table, the Cards will be boosted by the knowledge that earlier in the season, goals from Jack Cook and Malachi Napa secured them a 2-0 win, a result which did see them climb up to sixth. However, with Woking struggling for consistency since that result, Clark pointed out how eager he and the rest of the squad are to pay them back. “Last time we played Woking, they beat us, so we definitely owe them one,” explained the experienced defender.

“I remember from their place, they played extremely fast, aggressive and direct so we are going to have to stand up against that and keep doing what has got us enjoying success over past few weeks, getting the ball down and playing like we can.”

Balanta doubled that lead shortly before the half-time break before Robinson scored a third seconds after the restart. King’s Lynn struggled to find a way through the impressive Daggers’ defence, with Michael Gyasi having the best of the hosts' opportunities in the 88th minute. But the Daggers never looked like conceding as Daryl McMahon’s side comfortably held on to secure their third successive win. The Daggers started brightly, and within the opening 90 seconds Liam Gordon’s teasing ball into the box was just beyond the reach of Balanta, who was lying in wait at the far post. Daryl McMahon’s side were not letting up and with 16 minutes on the clock, they made a deserved breakthrough after McCallum found himself in the right place at the right time to poke a deep cross into the back of the net. As the first half went along, the Linnets were beginning to settle and in the 34th minute, a deflected shot into the box forced Elliot Justham into action, with the shot-stopper racing off his line to smother the ball at the feet of a blue shirt. King’s Lynn had a great chance to draw level three minutes later when Carey raced through on goal from his own half. However, with just the ‘keeper to beat, his shot took a slight deflection from the recovering Elliot Johnson, and trickled the wrong side of the upright. But the visitors were not looking to sit back on their one goal lead, and with 39 minutes on the clock Balanta collected the ball 20-yards out, after a great period of play, before rifling his unstoppable shot into the top corner of Richardson’s goal. 26 THE DAGGER

The hosts made their second substitution at half time, bringing on experienced striker Simeon Jackson in the hope of getting back into the game. However, right after the restart, McMahon’s men scored their third of the game, as Robinson snuck in at the near post to prod the ball home.

McCallum was looking at his best, and with just under ten minutes to play he looked to have forced a tremendous save out of Richardson, diving low to tip to ball around the post, but the referee pulled the play back for an earlier foul.

Needing a miracle to turn this game around, Ian Culverhouse’s side were struggling to break down the in-form Daggers. In the 49th minute, a rasping shot from Denton stung the palms of Justham before the resulting corner was blazed high and wide. Solihull Moors took an early lead through Jordan Cranston, after the defender curled his free-kick in off the post after only ten minutes. George Saunders drew the Daggers level after 28 minutes, before Angelo Balanta handed his side the lead from the penalty spot just before the break, after a cross struck a Solihull arm.

Matt Robinson’s strike just after the restart handed the hosts a third goal of the afternoon, turning Will Wright’s corner home from the edge of the sixyard box. Following Tyrone Williams’ sending off, Adam Rooney gave the ten men a fighting chance in the dying moments, but Solihull left it too late as the Daggers secured a second successive win. Starting on the back foot, Daryl McMahon’s men quickly warmed into the game as good play from Saunders and Balanta in the ninth minute allowed the Colombian the opportunity to pick out Paul McCallum inside the box, but Tyrone Williams got a vital flick on the ball before clearing it to safety. Only one minute later, having been awarded a free-kick just outside the Dagenham penalty area, the visitors took the lead through Cranston, after the defender curled the ball in off the right-hand post, with Justham rooted to the spot. Saunders tried to pick McCallum out at the far post with a deep cross, but the striker found the angle too tight as his header looped onto the roof of the net after 23 minutes of play. However, five minutes later, McMahon’s side levelled the score after Balanta was able to keep the ball in play on the touchline before centring the ball to Saunders, with the former Hornchurch midfielder converting from close range. Mark Yates was looking for an immediate response from his Solihull side and just past the half hour mark, he

almost got his wish when Hudlin found himself in space at the back post, but his shot was lacking power as Justham smothered the ball on the line. With five minutes left to play in the first half, the hosts were given a great chance to take the lead when they were awarded a penalty, when Balanta’s cross struck an arm. Wearing the captain’s armband in the absence of Dean Rance, the Colombian stepped up to send the ‘keeper the wrong way with a low strike that found the bottom corner. The Daggers started the second half in much better fashion and in the 49th minute, they extended their lead to two through Robinson, who turned Wright’s corner home from just inside of the sixyard box. The men in yellow were convinced that they had reduced the Dagenham lead to one when Williams connected beautifully with a Ben Usher-Shipway throw, but the defender’s header was expertly denied by the acrobatics of Justham, who flew across his goal to tip the ball away from danger.

Things went from bad to worse for the visitors when Williams was shown a straight red card with 15 minutes left to play, following a clash with Balanta as the Colombian looked to get around the defender, leaving the Moors with a mountain to climb. Comfortable in defending their lead, the men in yellow found it hard to break down the resolute Daggers’ defence, as Ball saw a soft header comfortably saved by Justham, before Hudlin saw an attempt brilliantly blocked by the diving Clark. In the dying moments, substitute Rooney gave his side a fighting chance of claiming a point when he pounced on the ball, prodding home after a loose defensive header, to reduce the hosts’ lead to one. But it was too little too late for Yates’ side as the Daggers secured back-to-back home wins.
