MAURO VILHETE IS A DAGGER! The Portuguese midfielder, who joined last week, is a product of the Barnet academy system, becoming Barnet's youngest ever Football League player back in 2010, when he appeared against Grimsby Town aged 16. Vilhete has had three loan spells at fellow National League side Boreham Wood in his career, netting eight times for the Wood, and has also enjoyed spells at Hendon, Wingate & Finchley and Hampton & Richmond Borough. The health and safety of the staff and players is always the most important thing. Sometimes you feel like we’re getting out of the pandemic and then we have a case that makes you realise we’re still in it. We follow all of the rules and precautions but unfortunately, we’ve got unlucky, but we’ll put that behind us now and we’ll be ready for tonight’s game. On our previous meeting with Weymouth…

The important thing was that we won that game. We played some good football that day and I was very impressed with Weymouth. I think Brian Stock has done a fantastic job down there and he’s got them playing really good football.

They’ve changed a lot since we last played them in terms of formation and the players they’ve got in the building. They’ve made some new signings – Andrew Dallas from Cambridge has done excellently well, and we know it’s going to be a tough game but we’re really looking forward to it.

On the team’s consistency…

It’s vitally important that we stay consistent. I think in the last five or six games we’ve done the basics really well, we’ve defended well in the majority of games and we’ve had good possession of the ball. We’ve worked really hard – there’s no getting away from that – we’ve worked extremely hard, and that plays such a huge part in being successful. The team spirit and the togetherness within the group has been excellent and that has to carry over to tonight’s performance, all the way through until the end of the season. On Mauro Vilhete…

Mauro has really impressed us in training since he arrived - he’ll be involved in the game tonight. Most people would have seen him play during his time with Barnet over the years and we know he’s an excellent performer at this level who can come in and make an instant impact.

THETERRASI MEET THE TEAM youth ranks at Arsenal and Cambridge United before moving to West Bromwich Albion. Ross signed for Lincoln City from Colchester United last Summer.

Manager – Brian Stock Stock joined Weymouth from the AFC Bournemouth backroom staff, where he was appointed as an Academy Coach after a successful professional football career. The 38-year-old had previously run his own private youth academy with great success and also earned his UEFA B coaching badge. Starting his career at AFC Bournemouth, the former midfielder made 172 appearances for the Cherries between 2000 and 2006 before moves to Preston North End and Doncaster Rovers. At Doncaster he made 216 appearances and captained Donny to their Play-Off Final victory over Leeds United in 2008; Stock also won three caps for the Welsh National Team during his time at Doncaster. Stock then teamed up with former Bournemouth teammate Eddie Howe at Burnley before retiring from professional football in January 2019 whilst he was with Havant & Waterlooville. 1. Gerard Benfield: Gerard Benfield joined Weymouth in Summer 2020 from Salisbury. Gerard had previously played for Wimborne Town and Hamworthy United. He made his debut for Weymouth in November 2020 at home to Chesterfield. 29. Ethan Ross: Ethan Ross joined the Terras on a loan move from League One side Lincoln City in January 2021. 2. Brennan Camp: Brennan is a Scotland U19 international who signed for the Terras on a Work Experience loan from AFC Bournemouth in March 2019. Brennan made his debut in the Southern League Champions shield match at Kettering Town in May 2019. In 2018/19, Camp captained Bournemouth’s youth team to the quarter-final of the FA Youth Cup – the club’s best run in the competition for 50 years. Camp has spent time on loan with Portland United, Poole Town, Dorchester Town and re-joined National South Weymouth for a second spell in October 2019. In February 2019, Camp was called up by Scotland under-19s. Camp is the grandson of the late Gerry Gow, who made more than 500 appearances for Bristol City, Manchester City, Rotherham United and Burnley. 15. Josh Leslie-Smith: A versatile defender, Josh Leslie-Smith joined Weymouth in Summer 2020 from Poole Town. Josh made 97 appearances for the Dolphins and had previously been part of the academy set-up at AFC Bournemouth. 17. Calvin Brooks: Calvin started his career with local rival Dorchester Town in Conference South. The right-back joined the Terras on loan from Yeovil Town towards the start of the 2014/15 season. His contract with the Glovers finished at the end of January whereon Calvin opted to join the club permanently. Calvin has established himself as a highly skilled defender who is also comfortable in midfield. 21. Jacob Mensah: Jacob signed on a permanent deal in January 2021, having most recently been with Premier League side Crystal Palace, featuring in their Under-23 team.

He had previously made more than 60 first-team appearances for Ramsgate after making his debut in 2016, before impressing the Eagles whilst on trial. 24. Dominic Revan: Weymouth welcomed Dominic Revan on loan from Premier League side Aston Villa in January 2021. A highly rated imposing defender, 20-year-old Dominic has been steadily making his way through the ranks at Aston Villa since signing at the age of eight. He broke into the Under23 side regularly in the 2018/19 season. Dominic made the bench for the Aston Villa first-team on seven occasions before making his debut when he captained the side against Liverpool in the FA Cup third round in January 2021. 26. Ollie Harfield: Ollie Harfield joined the Terras from Dagenham & Redbridge in June 2019. Harfield is a product of the AFC Bournemouth academy and plays predominantly as a left-back but is also comfortable in midfield. Ollie Harfield was named as the club’s player of the month for September 2019. 4. Josh Wakefield: Josh signed for the Terras in July 2017 after impressing on trial. Josh spent six years with AFC

Bournemouth before spells with Aldershot Town and Poole Town. Josh was voted as Weymouth Player of the Month for October 2019. 6. Jordan Ngalo: A versatile midfield player, Jordan Ngalo joined the Terras in December 2017 from Blackfield & Langley. Jordan is a former English Schools’ Football Association Boy’s Under 18 international. Jordan scored his first goal for Weymouth at home to St Neots Town in February 2018. Jordan was part of the squad that won the 2018/19 Southern League title. 16. Andreas Robinson: Andreas “Andy” Robinson signed for Weymouth in June 2019 from Havant and Waterlooville. As a youngster, Andy made his debut for Southampton in the League Cup in 2012 before moving to Bolton Wanderers. 23. Cameron Murray: Cam Murray signed from Dorchester Town in January 2019, having relocated from Scarborough Athletic the previous Summer. Murray made his debut in a 22 draw at home to Kings Langley in January 2019 and scored his first goal for the club in his second game, a thrilling 4-3 victory at Salisbury. Murray was part of the squad that won the 2018/19 Southern League, playing 19 times and scoring three goals. 27. Joan Luque: The Barcelona born Luque joined the Terras from National League South side Maidstone United.

A 6ft 1 winger, Luque started his youth career with Spanish giants Barcelona, before making his debut with UDA Gramenet in 2012. Luque made the move to England in July 2017 when he impressed during a trial with Heybridge Swifts, where he scored 17 league goals in 38 games, as well as a further 6 in their successful 2017/18 FA Cup run. Having impressed at Heybridge Swifts, he then earned a move to Lincoln City before spells with Dagenham & Redbridge and Concord Rangers. 32. Sean Shields: Attacking winger Sean Shields signed for the Terras in October 2020 - he had spent the 2019/20 season on loan at Notts County from Ebbsfleet United. He started his career at Tottenham Hotspur, before spells at Rushden & Diamonds, St Albans City, Dagenham & Redbridge and Ebbsfleet United. He made his Weymouth debut away to Barnet on 13th October 2020 and scored his first Terras goal against Chesterfield on 28th November. 42. Pierre Fonkeu: Pierre joined the Terras in January 2021. The highly-rated 23-year-old started his career with Belgian side Club Brugge playing in their NXT Academy, before signing for Norwich City for £428k, following a successful trial in Summer 2017. After appearing in the Canaries Under 23s regularly in the Premier League 2, the explosive winger then made the move to RC Lens in France.

In 2019, Pierre earned a call up to the Cameroon National Team’s Under 23s side and starred in the Africa U23 Cup of Nations. Fonkeu was most recently with League Two side Grimsby Town on a short-term deal at the end of last year. 9. Ben Thomson: Ben Thomson signed for Weymouth at the start of the 2015/16 season. He scored 14 goals in his first season and finished as the club’s top-scorer. A no-nonsense, physical striker, Thomson has made himself a firm fan’s favourite at the Terras. In August 2018, Ben scored twice in a 50 victory at home to Dorchester Town. In April 2019, he scored the third goal in a 3-0 victory at home to Farnborough which clinched the Southern League title for Weymouth. In August 2019, Ben scored both goals as Weymouth completed a comeback to win 2-1 at Maidstone United on their return to the National League South and the opening day of the 2019/20 season. 10. Josh McQuoid: Josh McQuoid signed for the Terras in August 2018 and made his debut on the opening day of the 2018/19 season away to Harrow Borough. McQuoid scored his first goals for the club in a 5-0 victory at home to Dorchester Town in August 2018. An unfortunate injury kept McQuoid out for the majority of his first season at Weymouth, but he re-signed for the 2019/20 season in May 2019. McQuoid is a former Northern Irish international and has previously played for AFC

KEYMAN JAKE MCCARTHY McCarthy is equally at home playing as a centre-back or a holding midfielder. He joined Weymouth in June 2017 after leaving AFC Bournemouth. McCarthy captained Weymouth to the 2018/19 Southern League title. He was named in the Vanarama team of the week twice in September 2019 for his performances against Welling United and Concord Rangers. McQuoid was named in the Vanarama Team of the Week after Weymouth’s 2-1 victory against Hampton and Richmond Borough in November 2019. 18. Andrew Dallas: Dallas, 21-yearsold, joined the Terras on loan from League Two side Cambridge United in January 2021. The 5ft 10 forward started his career with Scottish Premiership side Rangers, signing a professional contract in June 2016, having already spent many years in the club’s youth set-up. Dallas made his professional debut whilst on loan at Stenhousemuir, scoring three times in six games during his spell with Stenny. The Scotsman was then signed by Cambridge United in July 2019 on a two-year-deal for an

undisclosed fee. He scored his first goal for United in a 4-0 victory over Exeter City in October 2019. 19. Jack Hoey: Jack is a young forward who impressed the Terras management team during a pre-season trial in Summer 2019. The youngster additionally played National Premier Soccer League (USA) for Greenville FC. Before leaving for America, he turned out for AFC Totton, as well as spending a brief period in the AFC Bournemouth youth teams. 20. Cody Cooke: Cody joined the Terras from Scottish Premiership St Mirren; he had signed for the Buddies after impressing at the V9 Academy. Before his spell in Scotland, 27-year-old Cooke spent seven years at Truro City where he made over 250 appearances. 28.Christian Saydee: Exciting striking prospect Christian Saydee was

propelled into Eddie Howe's first-team squad following an impressive start to 2019/20. By the end of November, Saydee led the goalscoring charts for the under-18s with 13 and won the club's October goal-of-the-month award for a stunning 35-yard strike in a 4-2 win at Swindon. He signed for Pro Touch Soccer Academy when he was nine before joining the youth ranks at Reading. Born in Hillingdon, he spent seven-anda-half years with the Royals before signing for the Cherries when he was 16. He made a bright start to 2018/19 before rupturing his MCL during the Cherries’ FA Youth Cup victory over Aston Villa. Despite spending the rest of the season on the sidelines, he still finished the campaign with 18 goals and 18 assists. He joined the Terras on loan in December 2020.

managed the game well and limited them to very little in the second half.

It was only the one game we have missed due to the Covid-19 scare at the club at the end of last week, so it hasn’t disrupted us too much. We have been performing consistently recently and we just need to carry this momentum on.

We said at half time how important the next goal is. 2-0 is always a tricky scoreline, but too often this season we’ve been on the other side of that and so we know the dangers that come with it. We knew Maidenhead would eventually have to throw bodies forward so it was important that we managed it and were patient, knowing that the gaps would appear the longer the game went on. Regardless of the winning margin you still only get 3 points so it’s vital you take all 3 when you’re in that position.

The health and safety of everyone is first and foremost though so we just have to adapt to whatever situations come at us, as most teams have had to do at certain points of this season. We’ve got a strong enough squad so anyone that does come into that starting XI is more than capable and it’s an opportunity for them to cement their place in the team. Every game is important for us at the moment. We still believe we can achieve something this season, and with still so many games to play we just need to concentrate on getting a run of consistent results together to give ourselves the best chance. I think we dominated the game against Maidenhead, especially the first half and other than their goal I feel we 10 THE DAGGER

It’s a cliché, but it’s proven this season more than most that every game is tough in this league. Everyone is beating everyone and we just need to concentrate on ourselves and make sure we are performing to the levels that we know we can and the result will take care of itself. It was a very tough game down at Weymouth in December and we needed to be at our best to get a result that night, and we are fully prepared for the same tonight.

Paul McCallum’s first-half brace was enough to secure the Daggers all three points in a 2-1 win against Maidenhead United. Maidenhead started the game strongly, striking the crossbar through Josh Coley, before an effort moments later crashed against the upright. McMahon’s men responded well, as McCallum scored two goals in the space of two minutes to give the dominant Daggers a deserved half time lead. Remy Clerima’s second-half strike threatened a comeback, as the Magpies looked to put an end to a five-game winless run. But Daryl McMahon’s side held on to secure a valuable win which draws them level on points with Maidenhead United in 15th. The Daggers were looking to get off to a fast start against a side that got the better of them earlier in the season. In the fourth minute, Angelo Balanta looked to pick McCallum out at the far post, but he put too much power on his cross as the ball sailed behind. Approaching the tenth minute, McMahon’s side were being afforded far too much space by the Maidenhead defence, as Elliott Johnson spotted George Saunders completely unmarked 25 yards from goal. 14 THE DAGGER

With half time fast approaching, the Daggers were looking to put the game to bed before the break. However, just before the referee blew his whistle, Blissett looked to have pulled a goal back, towering above his marker to direct the ball towards the bottom corner. However, Elliot Justham pulled off a tremendous save to parry the ball into the path of a teammate. Turning into space, the former Hornchurch attacker thundered his effort over the bar. Only one minute later, the Magpies should have really taken the lead, after Coley was fed the ball inside the penalty area. Taking one touch, the midfielder crashed his seemingly unstoppable effort against the crossbar, with the ball then cleared to safety. In what was proving to be an action-packed start to the game, following another Maidenhead attempt which hit the post, the Daggers took the lead in the 14th minute. Balanta, whose two goals secured a point against Boreham Wood, saw his header hit both posts, before McCallum was alert to follow up on the loose ball, smashing home from within the six-yard box. While the visitors were still reeling from falling behind so early on, the hosts were able to capitalise, doubling their advantage in the process. One minute after McCallum gave Dagenham the lead, the striker was on hand to tap the ball over the line for his second goal of the day, following Balanta’s rebounded attempt. Twenty minutes into the game, Alan Devonshire’s team were beginning to find their feet and started to threaten more going forward. Bursting into the penalty area, Maidenhead striker Nathan Blissett looked set to pull the trigger, only for Johnson to put in an excellent last-ditch sliding challenge to nullify the danger. However, the hosts were proving to have the bit between their teeth, as the ball was worked to Robinson just outside the box in the 26th minute before the midfielder curled his effort just the wrong side of the left-hand post. The only person standing in the way of another first-half goal for Dagenham was the

Carrying on where they had left off, the Daggers came out and started the second period on the front foot. In the 53rd minute, Weston decided to try his luck from range, cutting inside of his marker before unleashing a ferocious shot that whistled over the crossbar. Just past the hour mark, Maidenhead had once again steadied the ship, successfully keeping the Dagenham forwards at bay. They even began to threaten Justham’s goal when a direct ball into the box in the 63rd minute looked to find Danilo Orsi, but his touch let him down as the ball dribbled behind for a goal kick. The Magpies were looking for a spirited comeback of their own, as the games entered the 73rd minute. After being awarded a freekick just outside the corner of the box, Josh Kelly’s low bending effort somehow avoided taking a deflection before the ball struck the foot of the post. Having come so close to a goal back, the visitors were able to go one better and reduce the deficit to one in the 76th minute, when a ball into the box fell perfectly for Clerima. After controlling the ball, his shot from the angle nestled into the bottom corner of Justham’s net. Entering the final ten minutes with their tails up, the visitors were looking dangerous every time they brought the ball forward. Substitute Josh Kelly looked to have snuck the ball in at Justham’s near post, but for the Daggers’ shotstopper to make a smart save to get the ball away, leaving the visitors with their heads in their hands. Maidenhead were unable to find a second goal, as Daryl McMahon’s side held on to secure a win which extends their unbeaten run to three.

As an athlete, especially one that plays professional football for a living, the difference between winning and losing can often depend on how physically and mentally prepared you and your teammates are ahead of a game.

But despite having prepared to the best of their ability for the meeting of Stockport County this previous weekend, Covid-19 reared its ugly head once again, forcing the Daggers camp into an initial period of isolation. Thankfully, after being given the green light, Daryl McMahon’s men were permitted to continue their season, starting with the visit of Weymouth to the Chigwell Construction Stadium.

“It is what it is,” Justham said after the Daggers looked to have been facing another two weeks without football.

“We prepared ready for the game but we are in a global pandemic so anything can happen.

“We prepared as if it were on, but we got the call on Friday that it wouldn’t be going ahead but all is ready, and we are focusing on tonight now.”

What was especially frustrating for Elliot and the rest of the squad was that this news had come off the back of a good run of form for the club, one which has seen the Daggers go three games without a loss. But with games coming thick and fast this season, McMahon’s side will not have long to wait before the next game, as Weymouth make the journey east to the Chigwell Construction Stadium.

“Like I said, you cannot help what happened, but we are on a good run,” said the Daggers ‘keeper.

“We have seven points out of nine, but I think that the performances over the last five to seven games have been really good, so we are full of confidence. Hopefully, we can continue that tonight. “We had a good chat after the Notts County game, where we certainly were not good enough whatsoever that night. “Since then, we had a clear the air talk with everyone and there were some honest views, and we have really moved forward. I think it was the best thing for us having that chat and we have seen that with our performances.”

Following on from that humbling defeat away at Notts County, the Daggers have looked like a side with the bit between their teeth, and while the results haven’t always gone their way, the performances have clearly improved, something which Justham puts down to squad confidence. “I think you can see it when we played last Tuesday against Maidenhead,” claimed the Dagenham shot stopper.

“We did not start the game brilliantly, but I thought we really grew into it and we had a devastating five minutes where we put those two goals away.

“The attacking play has been fantastic, but I still think we have been defending quite well as well. It would have been nice to keep a clean sheet last Tuesday, but I thought that after the goal, we saw out the game quite well and we managed to get the result. “We have got a fair few senior players in the team, so we have got to try and manage the young ones when we are on the pitch. “I thought we managed it well Tuesday night when it would have been easy to go and panic after conceding, but I thought we managed it well, especially in the last ten minutes, because I don’t think they had a shot on goal after that. “We have got some experienced players and some younger ones, but we are learning off them as well because they also have a vital part to play.”

Having the right balance between youth and experience is also vital, as it allows for the Daggers to play energetic football, but also have the experience of how to manage a game when it gets close, something which Justham clearly thinks that McMahon’s side has in abundance, ahead of the visit of newly promoted Weymouth. “I think the manager has done that well at the minute.

“We are full of energy, we like to play on the front foot when we can, but we’ve also got players in there to manage it. I think we’ve got a really good blend at the moment.

“I think tonight will be a difficult game, but every game in this league is tough, whether teams are at the top or bottom of the league, but we certainly do not fear anyone. We are looking forward to this game.”

Solihull Moors have sacked manager Jimmy Shan after a run of just one win in 10 National League matches. Jimmy Shan

The former West Brom coach, 42, took charge at Damson Park in February 2020 and guided the club to ninth place in the shortened 2019-20 campaign. But left the Club following a 5-0 defeat to Stockport which left the Moors 17th in the table. National League strugglers Barnet have parted company with manager Tim Flowers after less than three months in charge, with The Bees 22nd in the table, 11 points from safety. Former Solihull Moors boss Flowers, 54, replaced Peter Beadle at the north London club on 14 December but lost 10 of his 11 league games. Wealdstone have appointed Stuart Maynard as manager on a contract until the end of the 2021-22 campaign. Maynard had been in caretaker charge of the Stones since previous boss Dean Brennan left the club on 2 February. Torquay United have agreed an initial month-long loan deal for Plymouth Argyle left-back Ryan Law. Law, 21, has made five senior appearances for his parent club as well as gaining experience during previous loan spells at Gloucester City, Truro City and Chippenham Town. Woking have signed strikers Sam Ashford and Niko Muir on loan. Ashford, 25, joins until the end of the season from League Two Crawley Town while Muir, 28, makes a one-month switch from National League South club Hampton & Richmond. Chesterfield striker Akwasi Asante has signed a new deal that keeps him with the club until the summer of 2024. The 28year-old has scored nine goals since joining the club from Gloucester City in November. Meanwhile, Maidenhead have extended the loan of goalkeeper Rhys Forster, 21, from Southern League side Metropolitan Police until 27 March and Wealdstone have brought in Cheltenham Town defender Daniel Bowry on an initial one-month loan.
