All round it was a good performance – we’ve touched on it the last few months where we’ve played well and not got the results that we warranted for our performances, but it came together on Tuesday night and I’m confident we can do that again this afternoon. He’s got Mo Sagaf, George Saunders, Myles Weston, when he’s playing, who give him legs and energy that run past him. He finds those passes and he’s forming a good partnership with Macca as well. Unfortunately, for the majority of the season, we’ve not been able to put both of them together because of injuries etc. but I feel in the last two or three months they’ve worked together nicely. I’ve said it all season, he’s a top player at this level – he’s the best number 10 in the division for me. On having lots of options to pick from…

We’ve got some really exciting players. I thought Mo Sagaf was outstanding on Tuesday night, Tom Smith came on off the back of his

injury – he’s trained really well and kept himself in shape, and I thought he performed really well when he was called upon. We need to prepare the young players now and make sure they can perform at this level consistently. Any mistakes and errors they make, hopefully we can iron them out at the end of this season and have them ready for next season. I think all the youngsters that have come have done really well. On Solihull Moors…

It’ll be a tough game this afternoon. Mark Yates has gone back there, and I remember he had a fantastic record from his previous spell with Solihull when he saved them from relegation. They play with height, pace and they’re really good from set-pieces. They’re aggressive and I’m expecting them to be a different team to the one we faced last month. SOLIHULL MOORS THEMOORSI MEET THE TEAM 2. Tyrone Williams Versatile defender Tyrone Williams was signed from Kidderminster Harriers in February 2018. He was a graduate of the Harriers academy after signing his first professional contract in 2013. He made his first team debut for the National North team in 2016 (at which time he was Harriers longest serving player) and went on to make more than 70 appearances, with loan spells at Hednesford, Redditch and Stourbridge providing him with valuable experience. The 26-year-old, comfortable at centre back and right back, quickly established himself as a regular in Moors’ team. He is a powerful defender who can also score goals.

Manager – Mark Yates Moors were delighted to announce the return of Mark Yates as the club’s manager in March 2021. Yates was appointed on a short-term basis until the end of the season, having been given the go-ahead by Stourbridge after the Glassboys’ season was cut short by the Covid-19 pandemic. It is Yates’ second spell in charge of the club, having previously engineered the Great Escape when he guided Moors to National League safety in 2017/18. 1. Ryan Boot Ryan turned professional at Port Vale in April 2013 having initially been an academy player at Stoke City. In a five-year career there he made 28 appearances and had various loan spells at Worcester City, Newcastle and Macclesfield. In 2013 he had a trial at Fulham. He joined the Moors in the summer of 2018 after being released from Vale upon the expiry of his contract. The number one has played every minute of the last two National League seasons, keeping 46 clean sheets in 100 appearances. 06 THE DAGGER

3. Jordan Cranston Left-back Jordan Cranston signed for an undisclosed fee from League Two outfit Morecambe in August 2020, penning a two-year deal with the Moors. Cranston, 27, spent his early career with Wolves, securing his first professional contract with the Molineux club. He played locally with Nuneaton and Hednesford, before moving onto Notts County in 2014/15. Since then, Cranston has played his football at Lincoln City, Gateshead and Cheltenham Town where he became a National League winner in 2015/16. 4. Kyle Storer The 33-year-old began his career with local side Bedworth United before joining Tamworth in July 2004. He racked up 27 appearances in his first season at The Lamb before joining Nuneaton Town. Kyle made the step to play full-time football with Kidderminster Harriers in July 2011 as a 24-year-old where he became club captain. After a spell with Wrexham he moved to Cheltenham Town where he was skipper for the last two-and-a-half years, won the National League title in 2015/16 and went on to play 101 times at Whaddon Road. He joined Moors in January 2018 and has been an ever present in the team. Kyle is Moors’ First Team captain, with over 600 career appearances to his name. 5. Callum Howe Howe, 26, signed a three-year deal with the Moors in July 2019 and was one of the stand-out defenders in the division in 2018/19, helping Harrogate on their way

Tyrone Williams to a place in the play-offs. He featured in all but one of the 46 league games, scoring nine times for a side that kept 14 clean sheets. This form earnt the defender the Players’ Player of the Season award at the end of the campaign. 7. Joe Sbarra The Moors announced the return of midfielder Joe Sbarra in July 2020, after he signed on a two-year deal with the option of a further year in place. The 22-year-old played six times for Solihull in the 2018/19 campaign when the club narrowly missed out on promotion to the EFL, finishing in second place. Sbarra was on loan from Burton Albion in that campaign and, following his departure from the Pirelli Stadium earlier this summer, he has made the Moors his permanent home this time around. He began his footballing career through the youth academy of West Brom before becoming an academy graduate at Burton, making his senior debut on the final day of the 2016/17 season.

8. Stephen Gleeson Solihull Moors announced the signing of Republic of Ireland midfielder Stephen Gleeson on a one-year contract in August 2020. The 32-year-old has four years of Championship experience under his belt having made well over 100 appearances for Birmingham City and Ipswich Town. His most recent football came north of the border with Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen, where the midfielder made 10 starts between 2018-2020. Capped four times by his country, Gleeson was given his league debut by Mick McCarthy at Wolves in the 2006/07 season after progressing through the academy. But it was at MK Dons where Gleeson really started to excel, clocking up more than 200 appearances over the course of five years. 9. Adam Rooney The 32-year-old Irishman arrived at the Moors in March 2020 on a contract until May 2022 for an undisclosed fee. Rooney gained promotion to League Two via the play-offs with the Ammies in 2018/19, scoring 21 goals in the process. He joined Salford on the back of a highly successful spell with Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership where he scored 88 goals in 197 appearances, won the League Cup, scored goals in Europe and picked up a golden boot. Supporters will also know the forward from his time at Birmingham City for whom he spent one playing season with and scored his first European goal against NK Maribor. However, it was at Stoke City where Rooney’s career began, and he became the

club’s youngest ever hat-trick scorer on the last day of the 2005/06 season against Brighton & Hove Albion. 11. Jamie Ward With nearly 400 league appearances to his name, Jamie Ward was a great addition to Moors’ squad when he signed for the club on 02/10/20. The vastly experienced forward began his career with Aston Villa before moving onto Torquay United and Chesterfield. He would then spend two seasons at Sheffield United between 2009 and 2011, before a three-month loan to Derby County then became permanent. Ward spent over four years with the Rams making 149 appearances, scoring 34 goals before switching to their rivals Nottingham Forest in 2015. During his four-year stay at the City Ground, he would be loaned to Burton Albion, Cardiff City and Charlton. 12.Cameron Coxe Wales under-21 international Cameron Coxe signed on a two-year deal, with the option of a further year in place. The 22-year-old’s spell with Cardiff City came to an end when he departed the Bluebirds in June 2020. He made his first-team debut during a 2-1 defeat against Burton Albion in the second round of the EFL Cup in August 2017. In total, the defender made four senior appearances at the Cardiff City Stadium. 13. Niall Clayton Niall Clayton impressed Moors in preseason and signed a one-year deal on 16 September 2020. The shot-stopper spent his formative years at Wolves and then Birmingham City before earning his big

break at Oxford United, putting pen to paper on a two-year scholarship with the U’s. Clayton has already been involved with the Wales under 21 set-up and was drafted in as a trialist for Moors in the summer of 2020. 15. Callum Maycock Born in Birmingham, Maycock was given his first-team opportunity by Coventry City after initially joining the club as an apprentice in 2014. He played 32 times whilst on loan at League Two side Macclesfield Town in 2018/19, before playing regularly for Leamington in the National League North last season. Maycock departed League One Champions Coventry in June 2020 following the expiry of his contract, with 12 senior appearances to his name. 16. Reiss McNally Solihull Moors welcomed back defender Reiss McNally to the club on a two-year deal in July 2020. The 20-year-old was previously part of the set-up at the Moors and signed first-team forms under Liam McDonald in March 2017. He featured throughout pre-season in both 2017 and 2018, before moving to Guiseley in the National League North for the 2019/20 campaign. McNally went on to make 35 appearances across all competitions for the Lions as they ended the season in ninth position, narrowly missing out on the playoffs under former Moors boss Marcus Bignot. 17. Jordan Piggott West Brom academy graduate Piggott arrived at the Moors in July 2020 on the

Hudlin joined Moors after a spell with Midland League Division Two side Solihull United and put pen to paper on a two-year deal at the SportNation.bet Stadium. age and was head-hunted by Villa at sixyears-old. The tag ‘one to watch’ soon became synonymous with Archer who regularly played in higher year groups for his age. So, it was no surprise when Archer broke into Villa’s u23 side at just 16-yearsold and he has been a regular ever since.

His performances at youth level caught the eye and first team boss Dean Smith handed Archer his senior debut during Villa’s second round Carabao Cup tie at Crewe last August. 26. Justin Donawa Moors boss Jimmy Shan bolstered his forward options when Justin Donawa signed for the Moors on 28 October 2020. Donawa has an impressive all-round sporting background, having grown up as a cricket player and thrived as a triple jumper in his formative years. As an athlete, he won three medals in regional competitions and also competed at the 2013 World Youth Championships in Athletics. back of a successful season for Halesowen Town, where he featured regularly throughout. James Ball James Ball arrived from National League rivals Ebbsfleet United in September 2019. The 25-year-old joined for an undisclosed fee on a deal until June 2021, with the option of a further year in the club’s favour. Ball joined the Fleet from Stevenage in the summer after spending the 2018/19 season in League Two, making 21 appearances and scoring four goals. The Bolton-born player began his career in the Bolton Wanderers academy, before going on to have spells with Hyde United, Northwich Victoria and Stalybridge Celtic. His breakthrough came with Stockport County when he signed at Edgeley Park in 2016. 21. Ben Usher-Shipway Winger Ben Usher-Shipway extended his stay with Solihull Moors in July 2020.

The 22-year-old put pen-to-paper on a deal for the 2020/21 season, with the option of a further year. Usher-Shipway joined the club in June 2019 after scoring 11 goals in 42 appearances across the 2018/19 season with Boldmere St. Michaels. He is yet to make a first-team appearance for the Moors, but impressed whilst out on loan over the course of last season with Alvechurch and Sutton Coldfield Town. 24. Mitch Hancox Former National League winner and Solihull-born Mitch Hancox became the club’s first signing of the 2019 summer. The ex-Birmingham City star spent the whole of his youth career with the Blues before going on to make 40 appearances in the first team. He made 15 appearances during a loan spell at Crawley Town, scoring twice. His time at St Andrew’s then came to an end as he signed for Macclesfield Town in August 2016. His second season under John Askey was a memorable one as the Silkmen clinched the National League title, with Hancox playing a key role alongside current Moors striker Nathan Blissett. 25. Cameron Archer Moors got their hands on rising Aston Villa hotshot Cameron Archer when he arrived on loan on 02/10/20. Born in Walsall, Archer showed star potential from an early

However, football was to prove Donawa's true calling, especially once he moved to the United States to attend the Berkshire School and then Dartmouth College. During his time in the States, the Bermudan won three Ivy League championships with the Big Green, appeared during school breaks with Somerset Trojans, and spent time with Black Rock FC. He was drafted by Columbus Crew in the third round of the 2019 MLS SuperDraft but was not signed by the club. Donawa moved to England last summer after impressing during pre-season with Darlington, which bagged him a contract with the Quakers. 30. Alex Addai Moors boss Mark Yates strengthened his side by bringing in winger Alex Addai on loan from Cheltenham Town. The London-born attacker started as a youngster at Tottenham Hotspur before joining Blackpool as a trainee. After his spell at Bloomfield Road, he enjoyed spells at Carshalton Athletic, Whitehawk and Kingstonian. He then joined League Two Cheltenham Town in May 2018 and has been on the Robins books ever since.

MY NATURE IS THAT I OBVIOUSLY ALWAYS WANT TO BE PLAYING AND HELPING THE TEAM OUT ON THE PITCH, BUT EVEN THOUGH I’M NOT AVAILABLE AGAIN TODAY, I CAN STILL PLAY MY PART AND DO EVERYTHING I CAN IN TRAINING AND AROUND THE BOYS TO HELP THEM IN ANY WAY THEY NEED.

Personally, my suspension has probably come at a good time, it now gives me a little bit of time to recover from a couple of knocks I’ve been managing through this busy schedule. I thought that Tuesday night's win was a terrific performance. I’ve said recently that the performances, excluding vs Aldershot, have been very good for a while, and it was just a case of taking our chances. It seems it all come together on Tuesday with us being ruthless in the final third and that should give us huge confidence going forward. The boys that stepped in to a man were brilliant, they gave us real energy and enthusiasm, and like I said last week, we have real quality in the squad and when players get an opportunity they need to take it and the boys certainly did. Nobody in our changing room has doubted Macca’s (Paul McCallum) ability to score goals this season. It's not an excuse for him, but due to Covid he has had to be taken out the team at different parts of the season just as he was finding form, which has stopped him getting any kind of momentum. He has found it tough recently but he has shown real character to keep working and plugging away, and I’m delighted he got his goal because his performance more than deserved it! If we are to be successful, 10 THE DAGGER

Macca is going to be a huge part of it, so that goal should relax him and give him the confidence going into these last nine games. As well as the goals, the clean sheet also gives the squad massive confidence. Like I say, it all came together on Tuesday, everyone did their job brilliantly and it will give the defensive players huge confidence knowing that if they keep it solid at the back, we have players full of confidence wanting to create and score goals to win us the game at the other end. Solihull are a team that have probably underachieved by their standards, but they’re now unbeaten in five and have found themselves in good form. They’ll be a lot different to when we played them at their place. They seem a lot more direct so we will need to stand up to that physical battle. We just need to concentrate on ourselves and take the confidence from Tuesday into today. The boys have been buzzing in training, and I’m excited to watch them again and I’m confident we will get the three points! Hopefully you can all really get behind the boys today, and we'll try and repay that support. Come on you Daggers!

But the Spitfires were unable to trouble the hosts as Dagenham claimed all three points. The Spitfires had started brightly, but approaching the 15th minute, the hosts had begun to warm into the game, with Balanta beating his man on the right flank before blazing his effort clean over the Spitfires’ crossbar. A few moments later, after the home defence had smothered Baggie’s powerful run into the penalty area, the Daggers broke up the other end of the pitch, with the ball falling to the feet of George Saunders about 20 yards out from goal, but the former Hornchurch midfielder could not keep his effort on target. Having been awarded the National League Player of the Month for March on Monday, Balanta marked the occasion in the 22nd minute with the opening goal of the game. Capping off a terrific move which originated from the home penalty area, the Colombian was expertly fed through on goal by McCallum, before caressing the ball into the bottom corner.

Goals from Angelo Balanta and Paul McCallum helped cap a tremendous Dagenham & Redbridge performance, beating Eastleigh 2-0 at the Chigwell Construction Stadium on Tuesday night. Angelo Balanta gave Dagenham the lead after 22 minutes of the game, rounding off an excellent team move to stroke the ball home from just inside the area. Paul McCallum doubled the Daggers’ lead midway through the second half, before Mo Sagaf and Tom Smith came close to adding a third. Chances were few and far between for Eastleigh, as Abdulai Baggie and Joe Partington had the best of the chances for Ben Strevens’ side. 14 THE DAGGER

Just past the half hour mark, and still well in the play-off hunt, the Spitfires were starting to find their feet again after a poor ten minutes. Rising highest from a deeply swung corner, Partington’s header was expertly saved by Elliot Justham, with the Dagenham number one forcing the ball around the left-hand post. Despite Eastleigh posing more of a threat, the hosts were unrelenting and after being awarded a free-kick 25 yards out from goal shortly before half time, Will Wright took aim at the top left corner, but the defender was narrowly off target as the ball struck the side netting. Five minutes after the restart, having been forced into a halftime change, the visitors were trying their best to catch the Daggers cold, as Baggie saw a thunderous effort from outside the penalty area balloon well wide of Justham’s goal.

With 60 minutes played, the hosts were looking to extend their lead to two, as Saunders and Mauro Vilhete linked up after a short corner. After Bromley had initially won the ball back, the former Barnet winger won possession, and forced his way into the box before firing in a cross which was too powerful for a red shirt to deal with. Saunders in particular was having a strong game and only moments later, both himself and substitute Smith saw efforts on goal desperately blocked by Spitfires’ defender Michael Green, who had replaced Tomlinson during the break. Another Dagger who was impressing was McCallum, and in the 64th minute he deservedly got his name on the scoresheet when he rose highest to meet a deep cross, heading the ball into the back of the net and doubling the hosts’ lead in the process. The Spitfires were rocking, and with 20 minutes left to play Balanta almost grabbed his second goal of the day when he tried his luck from range, only to see McDonnell pull off a spectacular save to deny the in-form Colombian. As good as the hosts were playing at the top of the pitch, they were even more impressive in defence, limiting the Eastleigh attack to scraps. In the 78th minute, under heavy pressure from a marker, defender Andrew Boyce could only head a corner well over from the centre of the box. It was clear that McMahon’s men were not settling for two goals as the game entered the final ten minutes. Having impressed since joining on loan from Bath City, Smith saw his volley blocked by a visiting defender, before Sagaf’s follow-up grazed the top of the crossbar. Moments before the final whistle, brilliant play from Matt Robinson kept the ball in on the touchline, allowing the midfielder to get a cross into the box. With the ball falling to Smith, the loanee took one touch to beat his man, before seeing another thunderous drive deflected narrowly off target.

CALLUM REYNOLDS SPEAKS ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF THAT EASTLEIGH WIN AHEAD OF TODAY’S GAME AGAINST SOLIHULL MOORS.

Football is a game like no other. Individual performances can and will be welcomed, but a team is rarely able to achieve anything without having a strong, passionate, and dedicated squad that is willing to put everything on the line each week in pursuit of success.

Tuesday’s win against Eastleigh was one of those moments where the hard work on the training pitch was on show for everyone to see, but despite being at our best at the top of the pitch, what made that result even more impressive was the defensive display. Watching on from the bench that evening, defender Callum Reynolds witnessed first-hand how the Daggers were able to put Eastleigh to the sword and could not help but speak glowingly of his teammates after the game.

“The boys are buzzing, and I was buzzing for the boys as well,” beamed Reynolds. “One, it is a good performance to watch but also to get the result from the game against an Eastleigh team that might not be in form at the minute, but that still has a chance of getting into the play-offs, was very pleasing. “The goals were top quality as well, and all round I think it was one of those days when no one really had a bad game. We have got to use that and build on it.”

Having joined the club in the summer from National League rivals Barnet, Callum had found himself a part of that starting eleven, featuring at the heart of the Daggers defence alongside Kenny Clark. However, a mixture of injuries, Covid-19, and suspension has meant the experienced defender has had to settle for a place on the bench, something which he is determined to learn from. “It has not gone to plan and has been a little stop start,” said Reynolds of his first season at the Chigwell Construction Stadium.

“I think I played the first two and a half games before I got injured, meaning I was out for a period and had to miss a few games. I came back in and took a while to get

back into it and get back up to speed. I started to find my feet again and improve but then I got sent off and since then, I have not been able to get back in. “It has been frustrating but like Barnet last season, I had a similar first season after a back injury, which meant it took a little while to find my feet. I feel good now and I am ready to go whenever I get back in the team. “It is not easy, but you have got to keep doing your best, firstly to get yourself ready but also to push the team to provide healthy competition.”

Having quality options on the bench, such as the likes of Reynolds, is a luxury that most clubs at this level of football simply do not have. For McMahon to know that if injury or poor form were to strike, he could call upon someone with so much experience and knowledge of the game, it helps to keep everyone in the starting eleven on their toes. “In this team, we could have two back fours, completely change it and have a team that is equally as competitive,” boasted the defender. “It is always good to have options in all positions, but the level of quality in the players that we have is also important. For example, you can have a lot of people but not much quality. Luckily, we have got both quality and options in this team.” Getting three points on Saturday is a must to back up Tuesday’s fantastic win and despite being confident, Reynolds is aware of how tough a test it will be. “They change a lot at that club, whether that is personnel, style or management and compared to earlier in the season, it seems like it is going to be a different test again,” he said.

“We have got to make sure that we are ready because whatever kind of style that they play, it is never an easy game against anyone, but especially them. At a minimum, they are going to be working hard to test us and we will have to make sure that we impose ourselves on the game.”
