Unfortunately, we couldn’t get you back into the ground tonight to support us, but we hope to put a performance on you will enjoy and we look forward to seeing you all soon. A warm welcome to the staff and players from tonight’s opponents Notts county. Neil has again recruited some excellent players into his already very good squad and I’m sure they will be challenging for promotion at the end of the season.

Tonight’s game as they all are in the Vanarama National League will be a tough game and after our recent performances it will be good to test ourselves against a side that finished in the playoff positions last year as we look to improve to become a side challenging at the top end of the division.

Our last outing against Mansfield was a performance that I was very proud of. The day got off to an interesting start with a bus issue which meant we had to drive ourselves the 150 miles to Mansfield, but it didn’t affect the players or staff’s performances on the day. The players fitness levels, commitment, work ethic and quality were of a level that I expect from this group. We now need to show that on a consistent basis so we can develop into the team that we want here at Dagenham & Redbridge FC.

It was great to have Dean Rance back on the pitch on Sunday in what was his first outing for quite some time. And to get through 110 minutes was quite some feat. I’m sure in the coming weeks and over the course of the season he will prove to be a key player for us. Macca (Paul McCallum) is also getting fitter and stronger with each day that passes and is looking more comfortable now.

On the injury front, Joey Jones is back in light training and we hope to have available very soon. Callum (Reynolds) who has been a big miss for us is back on the grass and running, he is desperate to get back on the pitch but like all the injuries we want them back and to stay fit so we will keep a close eye on cal. Both Phippsy (Harry Phipps) and Cliff (Adrian Clifton) have had successful surgery and are in the infant stages of their rehab. Cliff, we hope to have back early in the new year and Phippsy will obviously be out for longer.

It’s an extremely busy December and January coming up and the players, staff and myself can’t wait to have the Daggers fans back in the ground. Enjoy the game tonight and see you soon.

5- Ben Turner Turner was Neal Ardley's first signing ahead of the 2019-20 season and comes into the new campaign hoping to shake off the injury problems which hampered him in his first year at Meadow Lane.

13 – Connell Rawlinson Rawlinson came to an agreement with Port Vale to terminate his contract a year early ahead of the 2019-20 campaign and it paid off as he went on to win our Fans' Player of the Season award. The commanding centre back's no-nonsense, committed displays also won the recognition of his team-mates, who voted him as the joint-winner of the Players' Player of the Season award alongside top scorer Kyle Wootton. Rawlinson, who began his career at Chester, has European experience under his belt having played in Champions League qualifying matches for The New Saints (TNS) during his eight years in Welsh football.

The imposing centre back had enjoyed a strong start to life in black and white but a calf problem from December onwards, coupled with a nasty illness, prevented him from playing again before March's coronavirus lockdown. Turner was able to regain his fitness and secure starting berths in both the semifinal and final of last season's play-off campaign and will be hoping to secure regular game time in 2020-21.

14 – Damien McCrory McCrory is entering his second season at Meadow Lane after an impressive debut campaign. The Irishman proved to be a reliable figure at left back but also put in a number of valuable performances in the heart of our defence. He suffered a knee injury while completing his training programme during the coronavirus lockdown, ruling him out of our play-off campagin, but

3 – Sam Graham It's a case of second time lucky for Graham, who rejoined us on loan from Sheffield United ahead of the 2020-21 campaign. The central defender first made the switch last summer and was impressive until an Achilles injury sustained in training a month into the season ruled him out of the remainder of the campaign.

1 - Sam Slocombe: Experienced goalkeeper Sam Slocombe is now in his second season at Meadow Lane having endeared himself to fans with his consistent performances in 2019-20. Previously, Slocombe won promotions in consecutive seasons with Oxford United and Blackpool after leaving his hometown club Scunthorpe United in 2015. Bristol Rovers snapped him up in July 2017 and he turned out 27 times in his first season at the Memorial Stadium before joining Lincoln City on loan for the first half of the following campaign. 25 – Luke Pilling: Pilling left boyhood club Tranmere Rovers this summer after 17 years of service, having joined the Merseyside outfit aged six. Despite being born in England he has represented Wales at various youth levels and was voted Best Goalkeeper at the prestigious Toulon Tournament in 2017 despite his country’s exit at the group stages. He will be aiming to push Sam Slocombe for a place between the sticks this season. 2 – Richard Brindley Brindley established himself as our first choice right back after joining on a free transfer ahead of the 2019-20 season.The former Rotherham and Colchester player had made 34 appearances for National League side Bromley before joining.

underwent successful surgery over the summer and made his long-awaited return to action in a pre-season friendly at AFC Telford. The Irishman came through the ranks at Plymouth and had loan spells with Port Vale (twice) and Grimsby, before joining Dagenham and Redbrige in February 2010. McCrory made 86 appearances for the Daggers before heading to Burton, with a loan at Portsmouth for the first half of 2017-18 completing his CV. 16 – Dion Kelly-Evans Tenacious full-back Kelly-Evans earned himself a new contract at Meadow Lane this summer following a promising debut season. The tough-tackling, energetic defender, who can cover either full-back position, has been a valuable member of the squad since his successful trial during their 2019-20 pre-season campaign. Kelly-Evans came through Coventry's youth system, making his professional debut for the Sky Blues in May 2016 and spending a further two seasons in their senior squad before joining Kettering Town and winning the Evostik Premier Division Central. 23 – Adam Chicksen County brought Notts’ pre-season recruitment to a close with the signing of experienced left back Chicksen. The 28-year-old has played the vast majority of his career in League One but had been without a club since January 2020 following his surprise release from League One side Bolton Wanderers. Chicksen, who qualifies for Zimbabwe

through his father and won his first cap in a friendly against Zambia in 2018, burst on to the scene with MK Dons before earning moves to Brighton, Charlton and Bradford. 24 – Alex Lacey Lacey's classy performances at the heart of the defence since his arrival in November 2019 earned him a new contract ahead of the 2020-21 campaign. The defender had been in line to join League One side Bury before their explusion from the EFL, which led to us initially signing him on a deal until the end of last season. Lacey has experienced promotion from the fifth tier before as part of the Luton side that won the title in 2014 and was named Player of the Season in his second campaign with Yeovil Town - paving the way for him to step up to the third tier with Gillingham. 4 – Jake Reeves Energetic midfielder Reeves reunited with manager Neal Ardley this summer after leaving Bradford City. Reeves was one of the boss' outstanding performers at AFC Wimbledon, helping them win promotion from League Two before catching Bradford's eye with his continued form at a higher level. A large portion of his three years at Valley Parade were sadly blighted by injury but a successful return to fitness in the Bantams' 2019-20 League Two campaign, followed by a strong preseason with us, have given him the

foundations to compete for a regular starting berth in our engine room. The Brentford academy graduate racked up several League One appearances for the Griffin Park outfit before enjoying a brief spell with Swindon Town ahead of his move to Wimbledon. 6 – Jim O’Brien Fiery Scot O'Brien has been a key figure in the midfield since becoming Neal Ardley's first permanent Notts signing when he joined from Bradford in January 2019. The experienced midfielder endured a torrid time with injuries last season, suffering a double fracture and dislocation of his arm away to Bromley before sustaining a deep gash to his leg in his comeback match against Chesterfield in the FA Trophy. And he committed himself to Notts for the rest of the campaign, citing Ardley's keenness to sign him as a big factor in his decision before going on to pen a new contract the following summer. 7 – Wes Thomas Experienced striker Thomas is now in his second season at Meadow Lane after leaving Grimsby Town. The pacey front man contributed 10 goals in his debut season and was a thorn in the side of many defences due to his off-the-ball movement and aggressive playing style. He made his professional debut in 2008 while at Dagenham & Redbridge and has made over 300 appearances since, including several runouts in the Championship and League One for the likes of Bournemouth and Birmingham.

Following another dominant season in central midfield the skipper extended his stay at Meadow Lane ahead of the 2020-21 season. The vastly experienced, all-action Irishman has amassed more than 800 appearances over the course of his 20year career, representing Coventry (twice), Leeds, Sheffield United and Portsmouth before making the move to Meadow Lane in January 2019. Doyle scooped our 2019-20 Goal of the Season award with a sensational strike from the halfway line in the final throes of our FA Trophy home tie against Dagenham and Redbridge. DAGGERS.CO.UK

9 - Kyle Wootton The big striker turned his loan from Scunthorpe United into a permanent move in January 2020 and has established himself as our leading centre-forward. He finished last season as our top scorer with 18 goals and has started the 2020-21 season in fine form, notching in three consecutive victories. Wootton came through the youth system at Glanford Park and made his professional debut in August 2014, aged just 17. He made a further 13 appearances that season and scored his first senior goal in April 2015. Wootton had loan spells with Cheltenham and Stevenage in League Two, and at Lincoln, North Ferriby and FC Halifax Town in the Vanarama National League before heading to Nottingham. 10 – Cal Roberts Roberts has been racking up the goals and assists since his arrival from Blyth Spartans in January 2020. Newcastle United academy graduate's pace and trickery have established him as one of our most exciting attacking players and he's set to play a key role for us in 2020-21. He bagged 17 goals in 25 games for Blyth before scoring in five consecutive games for us as we reached the National League promotion final. 11 – Enzio Boldewijn Possessing plenty of pace and a penchant for great goals, Boldewijn has been a key cog in our attacking wheel since his arrival from Crawley Town ahead of the 2018-19 season. Clubs higher up the pyramid had been interested in the former FC Utrecht winger, who emerged as one of League Two’s hottest talents during his time with Crawley, where he netted 10 goals and laid on a further 10 for his teammates during 2017-18. He opened his Notts account on just his second outing with a fantastic strike at

Cambridge in August 2018 and has scored a host of Goal of the Season contenders since. 19 – Elisha Sam The 6ft 5” Belgian arrived at Meadow Lane in August 2020 after spending a season with Arda Kardzhali, where he wrote his name into the history books by scoring two late goals to earn the club its first ever victory in the Bulgarian top tier. Born in Antwerp and a graduate of Standard Liege’s academy, Sam rose to prominence at Dutch second-tier side FC Eindhoven after kick-starting his professional career in Israel. 20 - Rúben Rodrigues The Portuguese midfielder became our first summer signing of 2020 when he swapped the Dutch Eerste Divisie for the National League. Capable of playing in a number of attacking positions, the 24-year-old scored 12 goals and contributed 10 assists for Den Bosch last term.

GOOD EVENING AND WELCOME FROM THE CHIGWELL CONSTRUCTION STADIUM! I'm delighted to have been appointed Captain of Dagenham & Redbridge. I didn't have a clue that it was coming, the Gaffer just pulled me before training and told me that you wanted to make me captain. It was really unexpected but it's a real honour and I jumped at the chance to be Captain of the Daggers again. It feels weird after all these years to be back here leading the team out once again. Itâ€™s a little surreal to be back as I didn't think I would be here, let alone being back and being appointed Captain, but I'm thankful for the opportunity! I can't wait for the day that I'll be able to lead the team out here at Victoria Road in front of the fans! We only have a couple more weeks to wait before that's possible and I'm really looking forward to that moment. Going over the last 4 games, I think performances have definitely improved. We've been able to pick up some decent results. As a group I feel as though we are slowly starting to turn a corner and Iâ€™m really hoping that we can continue that against Notts County this evening. go 120 minutes against a League Two side. We were literally one kick away from taking them to penalties, so there are a lot of positives to take from that performance. It's obviously disappointing to be knocked out of the FA Cup, but it now means we can focus on climbing up the table in the league. I filled in at right back on Sunday, which is obviously not a natural position for me, but I played there a long time ago for Dagenham, I haven't actually played in the position since I left Victoria Road, but the Gaffer asked me to do a job there for that game and I'm happy to fill in anywhere that helps the team. Notts County have some very good players and we've been over their strengths and weaknesses in our pre-match meeting ahead of the game. I know the manager and a couple of players who have played with in the past, so I know a little bit about them coming into the game. We're looking to take the confidence that we've gained over the last three or four matches into this one and hopefully we can come away with the 3 points. Come On You Daggers ABU OGOGO

THE ANNOUNCEMENT LAST THURSDAY OF LONDON BEING PLACED INTO TIER 2 ALLOWED THE RETURN OF SPECTATORS FROM TODAY (2ND DECEMBER).

However, despite our early optimism last Tuesday that we might be able to have spectators back into the ground as early as this eveningâ€™s match, we reported last Thursday (26th November) that this was not possible. We received an email from the National League overnight on Wednesday indicating that the full scope of safety measures required by clubs has not yet been fully conveyed by the relevant bodies to the league, and may not be finalised before today. For this reason, it was evident that we would not be able to get our protocols signed off in sufficient time to allow the club to release tickets and admit supporters into our game this evening. Whilst we are confident that the measures we have put in place are stringent we completely understand the need for the Safety Advisory Group and the National League to consider all the implications of any new Government

requirements in full before giving us approval for the return of spectators. We realise that this will come as a severe disappointment to many of you who were excited at being able to get back and support the team but we are sure, that like us, you would not want us to jeopardise the health and safety of those attending or our staff.

The club is working with the local safety advisory group to admit supporters for our game against Altrincham, and further information will be released later this week. It should be noted that away supporters will not be admitted to any ground for the time being. DAGGERS.CO.UK

DAGENHAM REDBRIDGE EXITED THE FA CUP IN THE SECOND-ROUND AFTER CONCEDING A LAST-MINUTE NICKY MAYNARD GOAL IN EXTRA-TIME AGAINST MANSFIELD TOWN WHO WON THE GAME 2-1.

The first opportunity of the game fell to the hosts when right back, Kellan Gordan delivered a dangerous ball into the box; however, the cross eluded everyone and drifted harmlessly wide.

The Daggers took the lead against the League Two side in the 19th minute thanks to a goal from striker, Paul McCallum who scored his second of the season.

The Stags nearly responded immediately but Andy Cook’s close-range header was saved by Elliot Justham.

Shortly after Dagenham had a penalty appeal turned down, Mansfield equalised when Jordan Bowery set up Henry Charsley who scored his fourth of the season.

Daryl McMahon’s men came close to regaining the lead when Scott Wilson’s cross was found the head of McCallum, but he missed the target and a chance to score his second of the game.

Justham was called into action again making a fine save from Ollie Clarke’s long-range effort. Neither team was able to go in front before half time as the game ended all square going into the interval. HALF-TIME: Mansfield 1-1 Daggers

Cook had another opportunity for the Stags from a header, but it was one he put over the bar. Nigel Clough’s men came close to winning it with 10 minutes to go, but Justham made a fine, low diving save to deny substitute, Jamie Reid.

A couple of moments later and Reid had another chance which was again saved, albeit a little easier for Justham as he gathered a tame shot.

The Daggers had an opportunity of their own to win the tie through Sam Deering, who struck just wide of the goal in their best chance of the second half up until this point.

The visitors then had another chance to win the game when Deering’s free-kick was met by the head of Croll; however, he headered over the bar as the game would go to extra time in this FA Cup second round encounter.

Mansfield had a goal ruled out at the beginning of extra time when Clarke’s deflected effort was chalked off due to the ball hitting teammate Reid when in an offside position.

Stags midfielder Clarke unleashed another goal-bound effort at the start of the second period which was blocked again by Wright. Moments later and Reid, then produced an acrobatic effort which Justham was denied, keeping the Daggers on level-terms.

With the game heading for a penalty shootout, the Daggers had their hearts broken with the last kick of the game when Bowery who had the original shot saved; however, the ball would be tapped in by substitute, Nicky Maynard to send the Daggers out of the Emirates FA Cup. The best performance I’ve seen from a player in my career would have to be Ross Barkley in the FA Youth Cup. I was one of the younger players in the team and thankfully I wasn’t on the pitch, because he tore the team apart. Denis Suarez was another player who was incredible when he was at Manchester City.

This week, we sat down with Luke Croll, as the defender took some time to reflect on Sunday’s FA Cup defeat to Mansfield Town and look ahead to tonight’s match!

“Overall, I thought that Sunday's game was quite evenly matched. The stats might not reflect that but in the game, I thought that every time we went forward, we were going to create an opportunity to score a goal.

“We had the presence up top which could hurt them, and I thought that Paul (McCallum) and Willo (Scott Wilson) had their defenders in quite a lot of trouble, especially in the first half,” he said. “Paul’s goal with sensational but we had other chances as well. They have 4 very good strikers that they had the pick of and they're a good side that have had a slow start to the season, just like us.

“I thought it was a very even match overall and although they probably edged it in terms of chances created, it was very cruel to lose in the manner that we did.”

Nicky Maynard scored Mansfield’s winner with the last kick of the game, and Croll looks back on the moment he was rushing back onto the line.

“Me and Abu were the ones that were recovering on the line trying to stop it from going in, I’m watching the ball roll off his calf into the bottom corner. You have to laugh because otherwise you're going to cry, it was such a cruel moment after how hard we had worked.

“However, we have to take the positives out of the game. Over the last 4 matches we have played well, and we need to take those encouraging performances and kick start our campaign.

“We also have bodies coming back and I feel as though we’re starting to form an identity now, which is important as we head into a busy December and New Year,” he added.

This is the Daggers’ first home league match in over six weeks, and the 25-year-old says that this disruption hasn’t helped.

“We've had a lot of fixture disruption because of Covid-19 and games getting called off doesn't help with our rhythm, but now we have 8 games coming up in December we have a real chance to move up the table.

“The number of injuries we’ve picked up also hasn't helped, but we don't want to use that as an excuse and now that we have players coming back into the fold, the whole squad will be used within the next month.

“We need to be putting in performances and getting results and if we can't, put in a good performance then at least. We need to be picking up points and moving up the table and ultimately, we'd rather play poorly and win the game then play brilliantly and lose.” Notts County went home licking their wounds after losing 2-0 on their last visit to Victoria Road, but Croll knows that tonight’s game will not be an easy test for the east London side.

“We know that tonight's not going to be an easy game which is what you expect every time that you play against Notts County. And that's the same with everyday I'm in this division there isn't an easy game in the National League.

“Expecting them to start the game fast and they've just come off the back of a win so they're going to be confident coming into this game.

“We've got to do everything that we know we can on the pitch to stop them, but we also know that we have our own artillery look we can use against them and I think we showed that in the last couple of games,” he said

BEST PLAYER PLAYED WITH

Whist I was in the academy at Crystal Palace, I played alongside Wilfred Zaha on a couple of occasions. It was only a few games, but he is an incredible player. I came through the academy with Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who’s now gone onto be first choice right-back at Manchester United. His rise has been quite sensational as he was very close to leaving the club on loan before he got his chance within the first team. We always used to call him spider because he was a winger who was so good at tackling, he could take the ball off you with you even knowing he had.

DAGENHAM & REDBRIDGE SECURED A POINT AT GANDER GREEN LANE IN A HARDFOUGHT MATCH AGAINST SUTTON UNITED.

Dagenham & Redbridge secured a point at Gander Green Lane in a hard-fought match against Sutton United.

Daryl McMahon elected to bring Myles Weston and Angelo Balanta into the starting XI against the U’s.

The Daggers had the first real chance of the match, with Mitch Brundle’s header being tipped over the crossbar by the Sutton goalkeeper.

David Ajiboye went close moments later, as his header went narrowly over the crossbar from close range. However, the hosts got the goal that their early play deserved. Craig Eastmond had space on the right side to whip in a great ball that Buigel headed into the bottom corner to give the hosts the lead.

Elliot Justham was alert to deny former Daggers defender, Ben Goodliffe from a well-worked corner routine, but the shotstopper was more than equal to the effort.

The east Londoners no.1 was called on a few moments later, as he tipped over a Rob Milsom free-kick to keep the Daggers in the game. It was all one-way traffic in the opening 45 minutes, as the home side looked likely to grab a second goal. Harry Beautyman fired

an effort at goal that Justham held well before a tame effort from Goodliffe was also collected with ease.

The second half saw Paul McCallum enter the fray in place of Angelo Balanta. Ajiboye had the halves first chance as he was inches away from adding a second, as his effort struck the post.

Joey Jones pulled up with 55 minutes gone in the game, and had to be replaced by Will Wright. 10 minutes later and the Daggers were back in the game. Sam Deering floated a ball onto the head of Paul McCallum, who’s looping header evaded the hands Bouzanis.

The joy was shortlived though, as Kenny Clark received a second yellow card for a foul on the edge of the penalty area.

The Daggers then played our a nervy final twenty minutes as Sutton pushed for the winnin goal.

The home side had a golden opportunity to do so, as the ball dropped to Kealy on five yards from goal, but the forward could only stab it wide. The east Londoners held on to a point at Gander Green Lane as the referee blew the full-time whistle.

CATCH UP ON THE LATEST NEWS FROM THE PAST FEW WEEKS IN THE NATIONAL LEAGUE. Dover Athletic were the latest side to have a positive Covid test within their squad, with the side having five National League games postponed. Yesterday eveningâ€™s scheduled game at Maidenhead was called off four hours before kick-off following the positive test.

Dover's forthcoming games against Chesterfield, Solihull Moors, Wrexham and Wealdstone are also off and will now be played later in the season. The Kent club said their first team staff and players had started a 14-day period of self-isolation.

This eveningâ€™s opponents Notts County have signed Harrogate Town midfielder Tom Walker on loan until 3 January. The 24-year-old moved to the Yorkshire club from Salford City this summer, playing 12 times for the League Two side this season, and spent time on loan at Stockport County and AFC Fylde last season.

Wealdstone have signed former MK Dons goalkeeper Stuart Moore, 26, on a free transfer. Moore, who has been without a club since leaving the League One side in June, was signed after Luton Town recalled goalkeeper Harry Isted from his loan with the National League high-fliers after an injury to first-choice Hatters stopper Simon Sluga. King's Lynn Town have signed defender Kyle Callan-McFadden, who left League Of Ireland club Sligo Rovers earlier this month. The 25year-old, who played one EFL Cup game for Norwich in 2014, has moved back to England for family reasons and the club have been granted international clearance for him to play.

Chesterfield have signed midfielder Tom Whelan from fellow National League club Weymouth and brought former midfielder Jak McCourt back to the club on a short-term deal. Whelan,

24, made 27 appearances for Weymouth after initially joining on loan from Yeovil Town in December 2019.

Yeovil Town have completed the signing of attacking midfielder Tom Knowles from Cambridge United. The 22-year-old has joined the Glovers for an undisclosed fee on a deal until the end of the season.

Hartlepool United have signed former Rochdale and Northampton full-back Joe Bunney. The 27-year-old has agreed a short-term deal with Dave Challinor's side having started the season with Matlock Town.

Dover have signed 19-year-old midfielder Ryan Hanson on a month's loan from League One side Hull City. Hanson grew up in Dover and played for the club until being scouted by Crystal Palace - for whom he played until 2019 - in an under-13's game.
