DARYL McMAHON Good Afternoon and welcome to the Chigwell Construction Stadium, I hope you are all keeping safe and well. I would like to extend a warm welcome to Pete Wild and his backroom staff ahead of this afternoon’s game. On the Stockport result

I thought we were outstanding on Tuesday, particularly in the second half. I think in the first half, we were decent, but I thought we could have dominated them more than what we did. We just said to the players at half time to have more belief in our actual quality, step on the gas, believe in what we are doing, and take the game to Stockport. I thought we showed that in the second half and showed how far we have come in the last few months. I thought we were outstanding. On squad character

I think it is always great to go in level at half time when you go a goal down late in the half, so Macca’s (Paul McCallum) goal was crucial considering how the half panned out. I didn’t think we deserved to go behind, but it happens, and I thought we showed good character. It is a terrific ball in from Will (Wright) again from a set piece and I am delighted that Macca did what he does best. On Will Wright

I think Will’s improvements have been phenomenal in the past couple of months. He has been outstanding. Will has got all the attributes to be a very good player and he has cut out the little errors that I felt he had in his

game, which most young players do. I think his performances, his character, his leadership, his attitude and his mentality are all top drawer, and I still do not think we are seeing anywhere near the best of Will Wright either.

He is going to have to deal with half an ear now after the Stockport County game, but he stayed up in Manchester Tuesday night in hospital and he was getting some stitches done on Wednesday morning. On FC Halifax Town

They are always hard to play against and I think that Pete has done a really good job there. They have played numerous different formations, predominantly a 3-5-2 but they have played games where they have had four at the back. I think we have got to understand the strengths and weaknesses of the individuals but most importantly, we have to focus on ourselves and make sure we can continue this good run and perform how we can perform. I really want us to make our home ground a fortress and to make sure we are ready to go again. Thankfully my next notes will be written ahead of supporters being welcomed back to Victoria Road – and we can’t wait to see you all here again.

THE OPPOSITION

FC HALIFAX TOWN THESHAYMENI MEET THE TEAM Chris Renshaw: Former Oldham Athletic academy goalkeeper currently on-loan from Witton Albion. Renshaw joined the Shaymen in February, after starting the season with Witton, whose campaign was paused due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The 23-year-old spent three years with Everton prior to this season.

GOALKEEPERS: Sam Johnson: Longest serving player who signed from Port Vale on a two-year deal in 2017. The 28-year-old had two previous loan spells with the Shaymen and was part of the side which won the FA Trophy at Wembley Stadium. Johnson played a major part in Town’s promotion via the Vanarama National League North playoffs in the 2016-17 season. Starting his career with Stoke City’s youth setup, the 6ft 7 goalkeeper joined Port Vale in 2007 where he went on to make 22 league appearances between 2011 and 2017. During his time with Valiants Johnson spent time on loan with Stafford Rangers, Alfreton Town, Gateshead as well as The Shaymen. Johnson was an ever present for the club in 2019/20 season as he kept 12 clean sheets, helping the Shaymen finish in a Play-Off spot. Harrison Davison-Hale: Twenty-year-old goalkeeper who was previously at Huddersfield Town. Only first-team experience before joining Halifax was with Northern Counties East Premier Division side, Liversedge, where he spent a work experience loan last season. 06 THE DAGGER

DEFENDERS: Tom Bradbury: Centre half who signed for Halifax in the summer, having spent last season with fellow National League side Yeovil Town. Although just 23-years-old, Bradbury has seven clubs on his C.V. Starting his career in the MK Dons youth setup, before signing for Bishop’s Stortford, he later joined Banbury where Bradbury spent just over 6 months. His next move took him to Dundee in the SPL, later having loan spells with York City and then ending up at Yeovil on a permanent basis. Jeff King: Much travelled despite being 25. Between 2014 & 2019 he has taken in spells at Altrincham, Nantwich Town, Kendal Town, Trafford, Witton Albion, Droylsden before getting a big break at Bolton Wanderers in 2016 – making his debut at the London Stadium against West Ham United in the EFL Cup. King was later loaned to FC United in 2018, before joining SPL side St. Mirren on a permanent deal. King is into his second season with the Shaymen. Niall Maher: The well-travelled defender signed for Halifax in 2018 after brief spells with Telford AFC, and in Ireland with Galway United. The 25-year-old has a wealth of experience under his belt, as well as his previously stated clubs, he has played in the Premier League 2 with Bolton, the Championship with the Trotters and Blackpool, and League One with Bury. Maher can play across the back line and in central midfield. He made 31 appearances in all competitions last season and scored three goals.

Tom Bradbury:

Neill Byrne: Irish centre-half who signed for the Shaymen in the summer after leaving National League North side AFC Fylde. The 28-year-old began his youth career in Ireland with Belvedere, before joining Nottingham Forest where he began his professional career. Byrne then spent 18 months with Rochdale, having two loan spells away inside that stint. The defender then joined AFC Telford United, before then moving back up north, and that is where Byrne has stayed – playing for Macclesfield Town, Gateshead, AFC Fylde and Halifax. Jay Benn: One of three players to be playing for their hometown club, Benn signed a professional contract with Halifax in the middle of last season having come through the youth setup. Jack Senior: A 24-year-old full-back who is the third and final current Shayman to play for his hometown club. Senior began his youth career with a local amateur side, before getting snapped up by Huddersfield Town. He spent nine years with the Terriers, including one season with the first team.

A move to Luton Town followed where he played 10 league games in three years and had a loan spell with Harrogate Town. Last season Senior was with Gloucester City, before joining the Shaymen at the start of the current campaign.

Luke Summerfield:

MIDFIELDERS: Jack Earing: Earing is a promising youngster who joined Town from Bolton Wanderers in the summer of last season. He came through the Bolton Academy and made one senior appearance for the Trotters in the EFL Trophy. The central midfielder has had loan spells with Curzon Ashton, while at Bolton, and Farsley Celtic. Danny Williams: Experienced left winger who joined last season. Born in Wigan he took in nonleague football locally before a move to Scotland in 2013 with Inverness Caledonian Thistle. Williams played in the 2015 Scottish Cup Final which Inverness won 2-1. After three years with the Caley Thistle, he had a season at Dundee before a move to Accrington Stanley in 2018. Later going on loan at AFC Fylde making 6 apps for the Coasters. Before ending up at the Shay, where he is now into his second season. Kieran Green: Played a pivotal part in York City’s PlayOff push last season, and his good form earned him a move up a division to the National League when he signed for The

Shaymen. The midfielder has previously been at Hartlepool United, Gateshead and Blyth Spartans as well as Spennymoor Town and Frickley Athletic. Luke Summerfield: Signed in the summer after two years with Wrexham. Began his career with Plymouth where the central midfielder played more than 75 league games over six years at the club, had loan spells with AFC Bournemouth and Leyton Orient in that time, as well as a trial with Chelsea FC alongside two of his teammates at the time – Scott Sinclair and Dan Gosling. Summerfield has also turned out for the likes of Cheltenham Town,

Shrewsbury , Grimbsy, Macclesfield, and he is one of four current Town players to have played for York. Martin Woods: Central midfielder who’s had a 17-year playing career. He started off his journey at Leeds United, before permanent moves to Sunderland and Rotherham United. It was then in 2007, the midfielder, signed for Doncaster Rovers where he spent seven years. A brief period at Barnsley followed before the 35-year-old went back to his native Scotland to have two spells at Ross County – in-between time at Shrewsbury Town.

KEYMAN NATHAN CLARKE

Thirty-seven-year-old current club captain who joined his hometown FC Halifax Town at the age of 34. The centre half started his career with Huddersfield Town making 266 league appearances. He is vastly experienced with football league spells at Colchester United, Oldham Athletic, Bury, Leyton Orient, Bradford City, Coventry City and Grimsby Town. Clarke played 38 times in the heart of Town’s defence last season.

Matty Stenson: Signed after leaving Solihull Moors in the summer. A former Coventry City youth player who has previously been with Leamington, Telford United and Barwell. Once suffered a hip injury which kept him out for two-and-a-halfyears and went through an operation which had a 50/50 chance of success. Jake Hyde: 30-year-old striker, who scored 16 league goals for Woking last season. Has previously played for Swindon Town, Weymouth (Loan), Barnet, Hayes & Yeading, Dundee, Dunfermline, York, Stevenage and Maidenhead. Scored over 80 career league goals.

Woods was a starter in Ross County’s team that won the 2016 Scottish League Cup. He later went on to play for Partick Thistle and Dundee, before becoming a Shayman. Reuben Noble-Lazarus: Reuben became the youngest player to debut in the Football League at 15 years and 45 days in 2008. Huddersfield-born winger who started his career with Barnsley, making 46 league appearances and scoring 3 goals. He later had loan spells with Scunthorpe United and Rochdale, and at the latter his loan became permanent. Noble-Lazarus made 50 appearances for the Dale and left the club in July 2017. Unfortunately, an injury stopped him from finding a new club right-away, however, since October 2018, the former football league man has played for Chorley and Golcar United, signing for Town in last summer. Dom Tear: 21-year-old winger who signed at the start of the 2020/21 season from

Huddersfield Town. Has previously had a loan spell with Gateshead in 19/20 and was Huddersfield Town’s Academy Player of The Year in 2018.

Tahvon Campbell: 24-year-old winger/striker on loan from League Two Cheltenham Town. Campbell is no stranger to the National League set up having played for Gloucester City, Solihull Moors and Kidderminster Harriers. Tahvon came through the West Bromwich Albion academy.

Kian Spence: An upcoming midfielder who signed for the Shaymen in the summer from Scarborough Athletic before being loaned back to the Northern Premier League side for half of the season. The former Middlesbrough Academy player is now back and in matchday squads for Town in the second half of the season.

Billy Chadwick: On-loan from League One Hull City. Chadwick is into his second loan spell with the club after having a previous spell earlier in the season before returning back to Hull where he featured in various league and cup games. Billy re-signed on-loan in March, for a month which later was extended until the end of the season.

FORWARDS: Jamie Allen: Born in Preston, Allen is a fast and versatile forward who began his career at Fleetwood Town in 2012 taking in loan spells at Barrow & AFC Fylde. He joined Stalybridge Celtic in 2015 before moving on to Southport and Dover Athletic in 2017. He signed for Town in July 2019 after cancelling his contract by mutual consent. In his first season with Town, Allen played 36 games in all competitions.

Micah Obiero: Signed for Halifax in March 2021 onloan from Championship side Huddersfield Town. Obiero was born in London and spent time in the youth ranks at Leyton Orient before having a spell with Hackney-based academy ‘XYZ’. He joined Huddersfield in 2016 and has had a professional contract since 2020, he was out loan at Carlisle United in League Two earlier this season.

Our last few games have been good, both in terms of performances and results. We showed a real clinical edge against Woking, and then same again when we faced Wealdstone.

No disrespect to Woking and Wealdstone, but Stockport are a much better outfit, and it was a good test for us to see how far we’ve actually come in the past three months. First half I would probably say it was 60/40 to Stockport because we showed them a bit too much respect, but second half it was all us. On another day we could have easily come away with all three points, so long may that level of performance continue into the remaining three fixtures, because I’m sure they’ll be just as tough. Halifax will be another good test for us this afternoon. They're siting 7th, and will be looking to maintain their 10 THE DAGGER

play-off hopes, so I'm sure we'll need to be at our best. It's always a good opportunity to showcase what we are as a team against teams above us, because that’s what we’ll be aiming to do next season if there comes a point when we can't mathematically make the play-offs this year. As I’ve said previously, fans must be itching to get back in grounds all over the country and it will be nice to have you back and cheering us on to give us that 12th man on 29th May. It will be so nice to see faces around the stadium again, and voices as we come out. The whole squad is so happy at the thought of having you all back! Enjoy the game. Come on you Daggers! Angelo.

Paul McCallum’s first half strike cancelled out Paddy Madden’s opener as the Daggers were held to a 1-1 draw against Stockport County on Tuesday night. In a meeting of the National League’s form sides, Paddy Madden handed Stockport County the lead after 34 minutes, turning Elliot Newby’s cross into the back of the net past Elliot Justham. The in-form Paul McCallum levelled the score for Dagenham shortly before the break, rising highest to turn a deep corner home at the far post. Matt Robinson came close to putting the Daggers ahead, striking the crossbar midway through the second half as County struggled to deal with wave after wave of attack. And after George Saunders saw his effort spectacularly saved by Hinchliffe, the visitors were made to settle for a share of the spoils. Dagenham started well as they looked to peg the hosts back immediately. In the third minute, Elliot Johnson surged into the 14 THE DAGGER

Stockport half before picking Paul McCallum out with a pin-point cross, only for the in-form striker to direct his header narrowly wide. However, the hosts still had aspirations of securing the National League title and five minutes later, Newby tried his luck from range, seeing his shot take a vital deflection off a Daggers’ leg before Justham was able to claim the ball comfortably. Just past the ten-minute mark, McCallum was once again in the thick of the action for the visitors, getting on the end of another excellent cross, but his glancing header drifted narrowly wide of the top right corner. Having defended a number of dangerous set pieces, Daryl McMahon’s men resumed what was a bright start to their game. In the 21st minute, an excellent move, which started with Joey Jones in the centre of midfield, saw Matt Robinson collect the ball inside the box. Touching the ball back to Angelo Balanta in plenty of space, the Colombian was unable to keep the ball on target. But Stockport were looking threatening every time they took the ball into the opposition half and after 23 minutes, they very well could have taken the lead through Madden, but Johnson’s excellent defensive header prevented the former Fleetwood Town striker a certain goal. In what was proving to be an end-to-end game, the

Daggers put home shot-stopper Ben Hinchliffe to work in the 26th minute when Maidstone United loanee Saidou Khan carried the ball to the edge of the penalty area, before forcing the ‘keeper to tip the ball around the post. With the game delicately balanced, Stockport were able to make the breakthrough after 34 minutes through the in-form Madden, who was in the right place at the right time to turn Newby’s low ball home from the edge of the six-yard box. Not letting their heads drop, Dagenham remained aggressive on the ball and with five minutes left to play in the half, Balanta dribbled his way into Hatters’ box. Taking aim at the bottom left corner, the Colombian’s strike looked to take a touch off a Stockport hand, before dribbling behind for a corner. Despite the disappointment of not being awarded a penalty, McMahon’s side made sure the ball found its way into the back of the net from the resulting set piece, as McCallum rose highest at the far post to nod a deeply struck corner past the home custodian. Boosted by a goal just before the break, the Daggers came out all guns blazing for the second period and in the 51st minute, Balanta’s spectacular effort almost handed the visitors the lead, but the ball bent milimetres wide of the upright, with Hinchliffe scrambling.

Trying to go one better than his teammate, Mauro Vilhete looked to beat the experienced Stockport ‘keeper with a similar effort only one minute later, but Hinchliffe reacted well to the danger to palm the ball away. Having been forced into some desperate defending right from the referee’s whistle, the Hatters had their first chance of the half in the 58th minute, as John Rooney’s effort from distance stung the palms of Justham, who dealt with situation well. With an hour of the game played, Daryl McMahon’s Dagenham side remained in control of their title-chasing opponents as Robinson and Balanta both saw dangerous effort denied by an under-pressure Stockport defence. In the 66th minute, the visiting bench was left with their heads in their hands as they came within a whisker of grabbing the lead. After a bit of a goal mouth scramble, Balanta was able to prod the ball into Robinson’s direction, but his ferocious effort from just outside the sixyard box crashed against the crossbar. Approaching the final fifteen minutes, County had managed to wrestle control of the game away from the Daggers, with Liam Hogan’s cross from the right-hand side forcing Justham into drastic action to keep the ball out of his net, tipping it away from danger with blue shirts lying in wait. Impressing since moving to the club on a temporary basis, Khan managed to bully past his marker and into space in the 79th minute, before unleashing a shot which deflected into the welcoming arms of Hinchliffe. But straight up the other end, Stockport were looking to prove exactly why they are where they are in the league, as a dangerous Newby cross across the face of goal managed to miss everyone before Richie Bennett collected the ball before blazing over from distance. Entering added on time at the end of the game, the men in blue were throwing everything they had at the Daggers’ defensive line, with Justham and his backline proving to be a match for everything they had to face. In the 92nd minute, the hosts late pressure was almost put to waste when the Daggers broke forward and after collecting a deflected ball inside the box, substitute Saunders saw his goal-bound effort stopped by an unbelievable save from Hinchliffe. DAGGERS’ DEFENDER WILL WRIGHT SPEAKS AHEAD OF THIS AFTERNOON’S GAME ABOUT MAKING HIS 100TH APPEARANCE FOR THE CLUB AND WANTING TO END THE SEASON AS STRONGLY AS POSSIBLE. Having a desire to improve is the kind of quality that any manager would want from his players. You can have all the talent and ability in the world, but if you are not constantly trying to hone your craft, opportunities will be limited. In Wright, we have someone who is eager to impress every time he steps onto the field. The centre back’s form, particularly in the second half of the season, has highlighted how much of a talent we have on our hands. Against Stockport County, the 23-year-old made his 100th appearance for the club and if it were up to him, he would be a part of the furniture at Dagenham for a long time to come. “I am very proud. It is a big deal for me making 100 appearances, especially for such a big club,” said Wright after the Daggers 1-1 draw at Edgeley Park. “It is the second time in my career that I have reached 100 appearances for a club, so it is a big milestone in my career and hopefully there are many more to come. “I think now I have earned the trust from the gaffer, the players, and probably even myself. I know that I belong at this level, but I do not want to just stay here, I want to kick on with my career, progress, and hopefully that will be with Dagenham when we can get into the Football League.” After a slow start to the season, the Daggers have certainly found their rhythm as they close in on the teams currently occupying the play-off places. And while our hopes of forcing our way into that group may be a lot slimmer than many would like, Wright remains confident that the hard work they are putting in this season will leave the club in a much better position next year. “We all know it was a sticky start and if we had performed better, we would be right in amongst the play-off places, especially with how we are playing at the moment,” said the former Colchester United youth product.

“We look at how Sutton finished last year, I think they won eight in a row to end the season and they were able to take that form into this season. So, we are looking to finish the campaign as strongly as possible and hopefully that will give us a good rhythm to start next year on a stronger footing.”

Entering Tuesday evening’s tie against Stockport six games unbeaten, the Daggers were forced to settle for a draw against the title-chasing Hatters, despite having dominated large spells of the game. There was some concern around Wright’s availability heading into today’s game, having picked up a nasty blow to his ear. Losing him would not do the team any good and having lost Liam Gordon, Mo Sagaf, and Dean Rance to injury recently, there is no appetite for any more enforced layoffs. “Yeah I took a bit of a whack, an elbow from a 50/50,” he explained after a trip to A&E.

“I do not know how, but it managed to split the top of my ear, so I had six stitches put in. It will be nothing too major I think so hopefully I can strap it up and carry on as normal and help keep the run of form going.” Given the Daggers’ recent form, it has been a bittersweet experience knowing that fans have not been able to witness their team in person this season. However, with the news that home fans can attend fixtures from May 17, there does appear to be some light at the end of the tunnel.

“We are all looking forward to it,” said Wright about the prospect of welcoming fans back for the last game of the season against Wrexham. “I think we have missed them this year and I think if they were in at the start of the season, they probably would not have allowed some of the performances we put on at home. “Obviously, we can’t wait to have the fans back and hopefully we can put on a show for the last game of the season. I know the owners of both clubs know each other so it will be a nice game to finish on and hopefully we can show what we will be about next year.”

FIVE-STAR PERFORMANCE AS GOALS FROM PAUL MCCALLUM, MATT ROBINSON AND ANGELO BALANTA SECURED THE DAGGERS THEIR SIXTH SUCCESSIVE WIN, BEATING WEALDSTONE 5-0 AT GROSVENOR VALE. Efforts from Balanta and Robinson in the opening ten minutes handed Dagenham a commanding lead, as Wealdstone struggled to get going.

McCallum’s double extended the visitors’ lead as Daryl McMahon’s side set about securing their sixth successive win against the struggling Stones. The hosts put up more of a fight in the second half as Jacob Mendy, Sonny Blu Lo-Smith, and Danny Parrish all tested Elliot Justham. But they were unable to find a way through at Grosvenor Vale as Robinson’s late strike capped a fine performance which keeps things interesting going into the final games of the season. The Daggers did not waste any time at Grosvenor Vale and after 90 seconds, they had the lead. Racing through on goal, Mauro Vilhete saw his effort parried away by Jake Askew, before Balanta fired the follow up into the back of the net. Straight from the restart, Daryl McMahon’s men came within a whisker of doubling the lead when Maidstone United loanee Saidou Khan saw his angled effort expertly stopped by the young Wealdstone ‘keeper. However, with four minutes on the clock, the visitors were able to extend their lead when Will Wright went unchallenged when carrying the ball into the Stones’ half, before playing Robinson into space, who finished well beyond the home custodian. In a rich vein of form, McCallum was not to be denied for long, and only one minute later he went one better, as his low shot beat Askew to the bottom right corner. The No. 9 should have doubled his tally in the 27th minute, heading Wright’s free-kick directly at the home shotstopper, but he was able to find the back for the second time ten minutes later. Jones picked McCallum out at the far post with a delicious cross, leaving him with a simple finish. Entering added time in the first half, McMahon’s side were not settling for a four-goal lead and could have added a fifth through Khan, but after dribbling through a sea of Wealdstone legs, his left-footed effort from just inside the box struck the upright before the ball was cleared to safety. Having used all three subs as the second period got underway, Wealdstone started on a much better foot. In the 51st minute, having won possession of the ball under pressure, Ashley Charles saw his goal-bound effort tipped over the bar by Elliot Justham; the hosts’ first shot on target. The visitors were being forced into some defending early on and six minutes after testing the Daggers ‘keeper, excellent defending from Callum Reynolds denied Watford loanee Sonny Blu Lo-Everton an opportunity to fire on goal. they searched for a way back into the game. Mendy almost created a great chance in the 68th minute when he whipped a cross into the box, but Wright got his head to the ball before a blue shirt could nod home at the back post. With space opening up behind the Wealdstone defence, McMahon’s men almost capitalised in the 73rd minute. Collecting a deep cross-field ball, Vilhete steadied himself on the left-hand side, before cutting inside of his man and unleashing a ferocious shot, one which forced Askew into a tremendous diving save. Dagenham seemed to have upped the tempo as the game approached the final 15 minutes, with Balanta left frustrated at the home shot-stopper, after he produced another inspired save to deny the Colombian his second of the game. Deep into added time, having soaked up plenty of pressure from the hosts, Robinson was able hand the Daggers a well-deserved fifth when McCallum unselfishly squared the ball to the midfielder, who calmly passed the ball into the bottom corner.

PAUL MCCALLUM’S DOUBLE SET DAGENHAM ON THEIR WAY TO A FIFTH SUCCESSIVE WIN, BEATING WOKING 3-1 AT THE CHIGWELL CONSTRUCTION STADIUM The in-form striker doubled the score midway through the first half, converting from the spot after Mauro Vilhete was felled in the area.

Sam Ashford gave the Cards a lifeline in the final quarter of the game, getting on the end of a hopeful ball into the box to beat Elliot Justham with a low finish. But Angelo Balanta’s finish from Will Wright’s free-kick put the game beyond doubt as the Daggers secured their fifth successive victory. Despite missing several key players, Woking started quickly and after only three minutes, Ashford broke free down the right-hand side. Working his way into the box, the Crawley Town loanee dribbled into space before seeing his shot expertly tipped away by Justham. The hosts had yet to get going and only two minutes later, Alan Dowson’s men came within a whisker of taking the lead when a deep in-swinging free-kick somehow missed Ashford and Kane Ferdinand at the far post. Coming that close to going behind spurred the Daggers into action and in the seventh minute, McCallum handed McMahon’s men the lead with their first chance of the game, losing his marker before getting his head to a pin-point cross, looping the ball over the Ross. Both sides were struggling to deal with the windy conditions but after a slow start, the hosts were beginning to find their groove, as brilliant play from Matt Robinson in the 18th minute almost allowed McCallum the simplest of finishes, but for a well-timed tackle from a Woking defender. However, their hard work was undone in the 26th minute when the referee pointed to the spot, after Vilhete was brought down inside the box. Stepping up to take it, McCallum rolled the ball into the bottom corner to double the hosts’ advantage.

Under the cosh for the remainder of the half, chances were few and far between for the Cards but with five minutes to play before the break, on a rare foray forward, Charlie Cooper’s well-struck effort almost found its way into the top corner, but the ball curled inches wide of the upright.

Sensing that the tide was beginning to turn, McMahon’s men went in search of a goal that would restore their two-goal lead. With 14 minutes left to play, Vilhete went on a dizzying run, skipping multiple challenges, but his eventual shot was directed over the bar, with McCallum in space.

After a fast-paced first 45 minutes, the second period was proving to be a tense affair, as the Cards looked to apply pressure to a Dagenham defence that had so far been able to deal with the patched-up Woking side.

Approaching the closing stages of the game, the hosts began to test the Cards’ defence and with ten minutes left to play, they found their way through. Winning a free-kick on the left-hand side, Wright’s swinging delivery found Balanta lurking in the box, leaving the inform Colombian to turn the ball home from six yards out.

However, in the 66th minute, a heroic save from Justham was required to deny Diarra, who had rose highest to get his head to a well-struck corner. The Daggers shot-stopper was in top form but there was nothing he could do in the 73rd minute to deny Woking their opening goal of the game. After a deep ball into the box, Ashford found enough space to get on the end of the ball, directing it across the goal and into the bottom corner.

With seconds left on the clock, there was the chance of a fourth goal when substitute Scott Wilson was fed clean through on goal down the right flank. Spotting McCallum racing in at the far post, the former Macclesfield Town attacker tried to set his teammate up with a deserved hat-trick, but Ross saved well as the referee brought the game to an end not long after.
