Ian has great experience in the game and has some very good players in his squad, including players that have played at a higher level as well.
Sean Scannell has played for Crystal Palace in the Premier League, James Hanson who has played with Bradford in the Championship and League One so they have great squad and it’s a big football club.
However, we have to be focused on ourselves, we know that in any game of football, especially in the FA Cup with all the history of the competition, anybody can beat anybody.
In this particular game, we are going to be the underdog and Grimsby will be the favourites, but we are looking forward to the challenge, we know we have some good players ourselves inside this football club and were looking for something that can kick-start our season.
We have to be hard working, hard to beat and compact out of possession, but also enjoy having the ball and show case our talents when
we are in possession. Hopefully we can have a good cup run for the fans this season, I believe it’s been a while since the club has had a good cup run, so hopefully we get the result today which will take the club into the 2nd round of the FA Cup to give everyone something to look forward to in these strange times. As I’ve already alluded to, we need to kick start our season now, we’ve had such a stop start season with all the injuries. but I’m pleased to say that we have seen a number of players return to training this week and now we need to start putting some momentum together.
Although we lost against Maidenhead in our last fixture, I thought the actual overall performance was a very good, we just need to cut out the errors and get up and get cracking now. I hope that you enjoy the match. Up the Daggers Daryl

THE OPPOSITION
GRIMSBY TOWN James McKeown #1 Goalkeeper James McKeown made the move to Blundell Park in the summer of 2011 and has been an integral part of the side during his stay at the club, winning the club’s Player of the Year award twice as a result. In May 2018, James signed a new three-year-deal with the club, which will take him into his 10th year with The Mariners. After securing the Player of the Year award for the second season running, McKeown was given the captain’s armband for the 2019/20 season and rewarded with another contract extension, taking him to 2020. Luke Hendrie #2 Defender Predominantly a left or right full-back, the 23-year-old came through the Academy system at Manchester United, signing his first professional contract with the club in the summer of 2012. Hendrie made his debut for the Mariners on 21st August as a substitute in a 1-1 draw away at MK Dons. Luke made his loan move at the club permanent in January 2019, penning a twoand-a-half year deal with the club. Following an impressive first season at the club where he made 46 appearances scoring twice, Hendrie was assigned the vice-captain role ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.
THEHISTORY I THE MARINERS Danny Preston #3 Defender Defender, Danny Preston joined the Mariners in the summer of 2020 on loan from Sky Bet Championship, Nottingham Forest. Preston showed plenty of promise in his first year as a scholar, competing in higher age groups and holding his own, as well as featuring for the Under 18's as they reached the FA Youth Cup Fourth Round. Following a short loan spell at Alfreton Town, Preston showed his capability of making the step up into men's football and hold his own. Preston made his debut for the Mariners in the First Round of the Carabao Cup in a penalty defeat to Morecambe. Danny Rose #4 Midfielder Experienced midfielder, Danny Rose joined The Mariners in the summer of 2020 following the end of his contract at recently promoted, Swindon Town on a two year deal. The 32-year-old brings a wealth of experience to the centre of the pitch for the Mariners, with multiple promotions under his belt. After spending five years as a youth
player and scholar at Manchester United, Rose went on to captain the Reserves before making a loan move to Oxford United permanent. Rose made his debut for the Mariners in the First Round of the Carabao Cup in a penalty defeat to Morecambe. Ludvig Öhman #5 Defender The former Swedish U17 and U19 International has put pen to paper on a two-and-a-half year deal. 27-year-old Öhman began his professional career at Kalmar at the age of 18, where he made a total of 65 appearances over the course of 6 seasons, before making the long journey over to Japan, where he applied his trade for one season for Nagoya Grampus, making 13 appearances for the J League outfit. After returning to Sweden in 2017, Öhman played for both AFC Eskilstuna under manager, Michael Jolley and most recently, IF Brommapojkarna making a combined 50 appearances for both in two seasons. Öhman quickly became a fans’ favourite at the club for his no nonsense approach and bravery.
THE OPPOSITION Luke Waterfall #6 Defender Defender, Luke Waterfall joined the Mariners in the summer of 2019, signing from Sky Bet League One side, Shrewsbury Town on a two-year-contract. During his first season at The Shrews, Waterfall made a total of 54 appearances scoring 6 goals. Waterfall joins former Lincoln City team mates, Matt Green and Elliott Whitehouse, both of whom he struck up strong partnerships with, helping lead the club to Checkatrade Trophy victory, a successful FA Cup run and also promotion to the Football League. Matt Green #7 Striker Striker, Green became Michael Jolley’s first signing of 2019, securing his services from Salford City. Beginning his career at Newport County, Green caught the attention of many when he scored 56 goals in 92 appearances for Mansfield Town, where he helped them secure the National League title in 2012/13. After being plagued with injuries following his move to Birmingham City, Green returned to Mansfield and returned to his scoring ways, netting a further 29 times. Green then made the move to Lincoln City after their promotion back to the Football League, continuing his fine form, scoring 23 goals in 82 appearances in all competitions, before making the move to Salford City, helping them earn promotion to the Football League for the first time in their history. Green made his debut for The Mariners in our 2-0 victory away at Morecambe on the opening day of the 2019/20 season. Owen Windsor #8 Striker 19-year-old striker, Owen Windsor joined The Mariners on loan from Premier League side, West Bromwich Albion in the summer of 2020 until the end of the season. Windsor was fast tracked from the Baggies' under 18 squad into the Premier League 2 squad, where at the start of the campaign, scored five goals in five appearances. With a keen eye for goal and lively behaviour in and around the box, Windsor causes regular headaches for defenders, scoring once for the Mariners in his second appearance and providing a number of assists. James Hanson #9 Striker Manager, Michael Jolley was thrilled to secure the signing of striker, James Hanson from AFC Wimbledon in the summer of 2019 on a two-year-contract. Hanson 08 THE DAGGER

GRIMSBYTOWN started out in youth football with Huddersfield Town and Bradford City before moving into the non-league game, first with Eccleshill United and then with Guiseley. There, over the course of two seasons, he scored 44 goals in 91 games, earning him a return to Bradford in July 2009. James went on to become the club's joint third-highest goal scorer of all time, netting a total of 76 times, before joining Sheffield United in January 2017. After a loan period with Bury, he joined Wimbledon last summer. Hanson has caught the eye of many at Grimsby Town, with his strength and hold up play causing a number of issues for opposition. It didn’t take Hanson long to get off the mark, scoring on his home debut for the club in a 1-1 draw against his former club, Bradford City.
George Williams #10 Midfielder Williams penned a two-year-contract with The Mariners in the summer of 2020 following the expiration of his contract at fellow Sky Bet League Two side, Forest Green Rovers. The Welsh international started his career at his native MK Dons before making the move to London to join Fulham, where he made a total of 17 appearances. During his spell at Fulham, Williams enjoyed loan spells back at MK Dons, Gillingham and St Johnstone. The playmaking midfielder is well known for his keen eye for a pass as well as his dead-eye from set pieces, which was displayed during Grimsby's first pre-season fixture of the campaign, scoring directly from his first free-kick for the club. Sean Scannell #11 Midfielder 29-year-old Scannell joined Ian Holloway's side in the summer of 2020 following a successful trial period with the club. Scannell brings a wealth of experience, with over 11 years experience at Championship level at clubs such as Crystal Palace, Huddersfield Town and Burton Albion. Scannell is also a former Republic of Ireland youth international, representing his country at all age groups from Under 17's up to Under 21. Montel Gibson #12 Striker Striker, Montel Gibson signed for the Mariners in the summer of 2020 from Halesowen Town on a three-year-deal. The 22-year-old former Notts County striker

became manager, Ian Holloway's third signing of the summer, following an extremely impressive campaign in the nonleague circuit, scoring 31 goals in 46 appearances for his former club. In his first 11 appearances for Grimsby Town, Gibson has shown his ability with 3 goals and a number of impressive performances leading the line.
Ollie Battersby #13 Goalkeeper 18-year-old goalkeeper, Battersby is a product of the Grimsby Town Academy system, signing his first professional contract for the club in December 2018. Ollie joined The Mariners at Under 9 level, eventually leaving the club to join Sheffield United at Under 15s. Following his return as a scholar, his continued development and impressive performances saw him earn his first professional contract, making the First Team bench on a number of occasions. Luke Spokes #14 Midfielder Young midfielder, Spokes joined the Mariners in the summer of 2020 following a successful trial period at the club. The 20year-old signed his first professional contract when joining the Mariners, after a successful showing in the semi-professional circuit with Taunton Town, where he was credited with a number of game-changing performances. Spokes made his professional debut in the Football League trophy in a 2-2 draw at home to Harrogate Town. Harry Clifton #15 Midfielder Young Harry Clifton signed a two-year deal at the age of 17, coming through the Mariners academy. Clifton’s progression continued throughout the 2018/19 season, becoming almost an ever-present during the campaign, firmly securing his place as a fans favourite. In 43 appearances across all competitions, Clifton scored on 3 occasions. Following his impressive performances over the last few years, Clifton has become a regular in the Welsh Under 21 squads. Ira Jackson Jr. #16 Striker Striker, Ira Jackson Jr. signed for the Mariners on an initial two-year-deal in the summer of 2020 from Folkestone Invicta. During his final campaign at his previous club, Jackson Jr scored 26 goals and
provided 9 assists in 36 appearances for the club, catching the eye of a number of National League and League Two clubs. Jackson Jr made his debut for the Mariners in the club's 2-2 draw in the Football League Trophy at home to Harrogate Town. Jackson Jr. took the decisive penalty in the fixture to secure a 5-4 shootout victory and secure a bonus point for the club.

Last season, Tilley enjoyed a loan spell at National League side, Yeovil Town, making a number of eye-catching performances from the centre of the park, assisting his fair share of goals on their way up the table. Primarily a midfielder, Tilley can also be deployed out wide in an attacking position, creating threats down either flank.
Bilel Mohsni #18 Defender 33-year-old centre half, Mohsni signed for the Mariners in the summer of 2020 on an initial one-year-deal. Mohsni was training with the club prior to the early curtailment of the 2019/20 campaign, returning to his native France prior to worldwide lockdown restrictions being imposed. Once training had resumed for the current campaign, manager Ian Holloway wasted no time in securing the signature of the imposing defender. The former Dundee United and Rangers fan favourite can also be utilised as an emergency striker due to his imposing figure and ability in the air. Mohsni made his debut for the club at home to Salford City.
Mattie Pollock #25 Defender Highly rated 18-year-old centre half, Pollock joined the Grimsby Town Academy at Under 16 level. The former Leeds United academy player is the son of former Middlesbrough and Manchester City midfielder, Jamie Pollock and played the majority of The Mariners’ Youth Team games during the 2017/18 season. Mattie made his professional debut for the club, coming on as a second half substitute during the club’s impressive 2-1 away victory against Exeter City. Pollock’s dominating performances from the back helped The GTFC Youth Team secure their first League title following a last day victory to secure the trophy. Since the appointment of manager, Ian Holloway, Pollock has secured a place in the starting line-up in most fixtures, proving himself to be an important piece to the puzzle.
Max Wright #19 Midfielder Wright signed his first professional contract with the Mariners in the summer of 2017, before being given a two-year extension in the summer of 2018 by manager, Michael Jolley. Wright has been at the club from a very young age, progressing through each age group, gaining a reputation for his incredibly hard work and determination to succeed. After a number of impressive loan spells, most notably at Scarborough Athletic, Wright was given his chance at the back end of the 2018/19 season, showing fans and staff his abilities. Wright took his chance with both hands at the start of the 2019/20 campaign, scoring his first goal for his boyhood club in our 2-0 victory over Morecambe on the opening day. Owura Edwards #20 Forward Bristol City Under 23 forward, Owura Edwards signed for the Mariners on a season-long-loan in the summer of 2020. The forward has quickly become a fan favourite at Blundell Park with his exciting and direct attitude towards play. His blistering pace and quick feet mean he is a threat to any defensive line. With a number of assists under his belt and a goal against Cheltenham Town, Edwards has hit the ground running at his temporary home. James Tilley #21 Midfielder Midfielder, James Tilley joined the Mariners on an 18-month-deal in January 2020 from
Terry Taylor #26 Midfielder Young midfielder, Terry Taylor joined the Mariners on a season-long loan from Premier League side, Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer of 2020. An international team mate of fellow Mariner, Harry Clifton, Taylor has been a regular in the Welsh Dragon's Under 21 set up. The creative 19-year-old made his debut for Wolves last year against local rivals, Aston Villa in the EFL Cup. Since joining Town, Taylor has been a regular in the centre of the park in a 4 or 3 man midfield. Joe Starbuck #29 Defender Young defender, Joe Starbuck penned his first professional contract with Town in the summer of 2020. He became a regular on the Mariners' team sheet during the final period of the 2019/20 campaign after a number of impressive performances for the under 18’s. As captain of the youth team, Starbuck helped lead his team to the EFL North East Youth Alliance title after a last gasp winner on the final day. Duncan Idehen #32 Defender Centre-back, Duncan Idehen penned his first professional contract with The Mariners in the summer of 2020 after a successful scholarship in the Academy. The
young defender, formerly of Norwich City is an imposing figure at the back, combined with pace. His attributes have led to a number of starts for the Mariners in his first campaign as a professional. James Morton #36 Midfielder The Bristol City midfielder joined in the summer of 2020 on loan until the end of the season joining fellow Robin, Owura Edwards. The 21-year-old creative midfielder enjoyed two separate loan spells at Bath City, making over 50 appearances for the club over a two-year period. Morton also had Football League experience under his belt, with 17 appearances for Forest Green Rovers before being recalled by his parent club. The clever midfielder is a calming influence in the middle of the pitch, providing cover for the defensive line and helping pick the lock for attackers. Kyle Bennett #37 Midfielder Experienced midfielder, Kyle Bennett penned a season-long-deal with The Mariners from Bristol Rovers in the summer of 2020. Bennett began his footballing career at Wolverhampton Wanderers, where he came through the Academy system which he was part of since the age of 9. After making the move to Bury for a season, Bennett made the move to then Championship side, Doncaster Rovers in 2011, where he spent a total of 4 seasons at the club with loans to both Crawley Town and Bradford City during the 2013/14 season. After over 130 appearances for Rovers, Bennett made the move down south to Portsmouth, linking up with new First Team coach, Ben Davies. The winger enjoyed three seasons at the club, including promotion up to League One during the 2016/17 season. Bennett has spent the last three years at current side, Bristol Rovers, with a loan spell to Swindon Town during the 2018/19 season. After over 380 appearances in all competitions and 40 goals, the Mariners have secured a player with significant experience across the Football League. Virgil Gomis #38 Striker Striker, Virgil Gomis joined Town on loan until the end of the season from Sky Bet Championship side, Nottingham Forest. Gomis became the second Forest loanee, joining team mate Danny Preston at The Mariners. With experience at clubs such as Braintree Town, Macclesfield Town & Notts County, Gomis already has plenty of first team experience for a 21-year-old. GOOD AFTERNOON AND A WARM WELCOME FROM THE CHIGWELL CONSTRUCTION STADIUM. The players and I are extremely excited for today’s Emirates FA Cup First Round match against Grimsby Town. Last time out against Maidenhead, I thought there was a real improvement in our first half performance. We moved the ball well and were in complete control in the opening 45 minutes. Sam Deering’s goal was fantastic, he showed great technique and scored the goal at a vital time. In the second half, we were poor and conceded two sloppy goals. The manager summed it up perfectly in his post-match interview, we’re giving away goals that no other teams give to us. We need to stop shooting ourselves in the foot and learn to grind out a result. Yes we’ve had injuries and that doesn’t help, but we can’t use that as an excuse. We need to go out onto that pitch this afternoon and put in a performance that the fans can be proud of. It’s going to be
tough as we’re facing off against League opposition, but this is the level of opposition we want to be playing week in, week out. We know that we’re capable of picking up a result today and advancing into the second round, which is what players dream of. We’ve welcomed Abu Ogogo and Scott Wilson since our last home match, and I’m pleased to have the pair with us. Abu is a player that you fans will know well and is a fantastic player who is a welcome addition to our squad. Scott has worked incredibly hard in his first two matches for the football club and isn’t far away from grabbing his first goal. The visitors had the game’s first real chance with nine minutes gone, as Nathan Blissett headed over from close range after a deep cross from Ryheem Sheckleford.
The east London side grew into the match as the minutes ticked by, first with Sam Deering seeing an effort blocked before Mitch Brundle lined one up from range that landed narrowly wide of the mark. Deering had another chance on 25 minutes as the midfielder drove forward and fired just past the post.
The Daggers continued to show their superiority, limiting the home side to very little in the opening 45 minutes and got what they deserved just before the break. Will Wright switched the ball over to Deering, who volleyed the ball into the back of the net with incredible technique.

Maidenhead came out for the second half wanting to improve on a poor opening 45, and on 55 minutes, Blissett tapped into the net from close range after the Daggers failed to clear a corner. Scott Wilson had a couple of chances, but his efforts were easily saved by Ashby-Hammond in the Magpies goal.
The Maidenhead shot-stopper superbly denied Kenny Clark on 74 minutes, as the Fulham loanee denied the defender from close range.
A minute later and the Daggers were behind. Josh Coley raced onto a loose ball as Elliot Justham came rushing out. The Magpies man then chipped the ball over the goalkeeper and Abu Ogogo was unable to prevent the ball from crossing the line.
The Daggers no.1 then denied former teammate, Dan Sparkes from a free-kick as Maidenhead went in search of a third.
The Daggers piled on the pressure late on but were unable to grab an equaliser at York Road.

ELLIOTT JOHNSON This week, we spoke with Elliott Johnson ahead of today’s Emirates FA Cup first round match.
This past week has been a little abnormal for the Daggers, as COVID symptoms within the squad saw last week’s league fixture postponed, but thankfully all players and staff returned a negative test result.
“When we came in on Tuesday, it felt like we had been away for ages because we were waiting for the whole squad to be tested and following the guidelines. As soon as we came back, it was straight to work and preparing for today's game. “The preparation isn't ideal, but when we got back onto the training pitch, we put in the extra work and we won't let that affect us today. Towards the end of the week we started looking at the tactical side of things and looking at Grimsby to see what they will throw at us, so we’re certainly well prepared for the game. “
Johnson also reflected on our poor start to the season so far, something that he believes will soon be put right.
“At the start of the season everybody wants to get promoted but we are a new team, and it's taking it a little bit longer for us to gel than everybody would have hoped. In training we're working really hard every day to iron out the kinks and put right the wrongs that we've made in the games so far. Our ambition is to be playing Football League clubs every week, so this is a really good test for us. “Once we get out of the habit of losing games these things will start to turn in our favour, we will end up getting scrappy goes to win games. Momentum can sometimes go against you and you end up getting into bad habits rather than good ones and unfortunately that's happening to us at the moment,” he added.
The Daggers come into this match as underdogs, something which you could argue hasn’t been the case in any fixture so far this season. The full-back believes this could help the east Londoners this afternoon. “I think being the underdog this afternoon might help

If you look at the teams we have played in our opening League games we've been the favourite on paper, but you don't just turn up and get the three points just because people think you should win or we think we should win the game. Johnson made the switch from Barnet to the Daggers in the summer, leaving the club that he had spent his entire professional career. The 26-year-old has enjoyed gelling with his new team-mates.
“Joining a new team is obviously a new experience for me, but it’s one that I’ve really enjoyed. I’d prefer it if we were further up the table and winning games, but in terms of day in and day out, we've got a great group of lads here and the manager and staff have been great,” he said.

Edgar Davids for sure. He gave me my debut at Barnet when I was coming through as a youngster.
I got on with him really well and enjoyed working with him, but he was a very 'marmite' sort of guy, some people didn't get on with him that well at all. He was so aggressive on training pitch and in games which led to him getting sent off so many times. I learnt a lot from working with him every day.

Daryl McMahon made four changes to the side that faced Yeovil Town with fans favourite Abu Ogogo making his first start upon his return to the Club and fellow new signing Scott Wilson starting the match for his full debut in place of Charlee Adams and Darren McQueen respectively.
Will Wright and George Saunders were the other changes with Andy Eleftheriou and Kai Brown dropping to the bench, Bailey Clements was also making his first appearance in the matchday squad for the home side.
For the Daggers, Sam Deering had an early opening after a great ball over the top of the Hartley defence, with the midfielder’s strike saved by Luke Williams.
The Row, wearing full orange, made a bright start to match their kit; a quick free kick releasing Kingsley Eshun with the forward only able to hit the side netting. Deering had another chance to open the scoring early on, Scott Wilson did well to hold off his man, the striker laid the ball back for Sam with his low shot well saved by Williams. The Essex side were awarded a penalty in the thirteenth minute, Tom Bird was penalised for handball. Mitch Brundle stepping up to fire past Williams into the middle of the goal with the goalkeeper diving to his right, the midfielder’s first goal of the season.
Deering was heavily involved in the match and after receiving the ball on the right-hand side and driving into the box, the playmaker passed onto Wilson who had his strike blocked in the box.

Eshun was proving to be a handful for the Daggers back four with his physical presence and the forward managed to nick the ball away from Kenny Clark before driving forward with Justham coming out of his goal to save at the expense of a corner which the away side wasted.
The Row started the second half strongly with the Daggers defence having to hold off some early pressure in the half, Captain Clark producing a fantastic last-ditch tackle to deny Eshun in the area.
Mitchell Parker managed to beat the offside trap after a slip on the wet surface from Will Wright, with Justham producing a wonderful save to deny the forward, another quality save from the Daggers number one.
The home side managed to win a corner after a quick break forward following some pressure from the Row. Deering with the corner which was just too high for Luke Croll with the ball flicking off his head and wide. Deering, who had been a threat all afternoon, almost managed to feed the ball through to Angelo Balanta but a Hartley midfielder got a touch too the ball just in time to deny the home side.
The away side looking for an equaliser had a strike through substitute Ben Wright which flew over the bar after being closed down quickly.
Tom Bird found space down the left-hand side in the final moments with his initial cross blocked and the second flying over the bar.
The final chance fell to Darren McQueen who rounded the goalkeeper before his effort was blocked at the final moment before the referee blew the final whistle.

Francis Babalola’s dramatic late winner fired Cray Valley Paper Mills into the Emirates FA Cup first round proper for the first time in their history to spark emotional scenes at Maidenhead’s York Road. Kevin Watson’s side fought back from two goals behind in a thrilling contest against the National League team as the visitors, who compete in the Isthmian League South East Division, produced a moment of Cup magic for the ages.
They had to do things the hard way in Berkshire, however, as Manny Parry and Dan Sparkes' first-half strikes handed Maidenhead a two-goal advantage within the opening half hour. But Watson’s resilient outfit hauled themselves back into the match as Ade Yusuff reduced the deficit before Connor Dymond’s leveller on the stroke of half time. The hosts were awarded a penalty with under ten minutes to go, only for Millers goalkeeper Joe Docherty to produce a moment of Cup heroics and deny Sam Barratt from the spot. And that set the stage for substitute Babalola’s late, late winner, predatorily pouncing at the far post to fire home and prompt jubilant scenes among the travelling contingent. Skelmersdale United are now the lowest-ranked team remaining in the competition after soaring to a memorable 4-1 win away at Stafford Rangers. The North West Counties League Premier Division side became the maiden NWCFL (ninth tier of the pyramid) team to make it through to the first round proper since 1996/97 as two goals each from Emini Adegbenro and Lloyd Ellams kept their name in the hat.

Yeovil Town toppled Dover Athletic 7-6 on penalties after a thrilling 3-3 draw. Thirteen perfect spot-kicks were struck by both teams, but goalkeeper Adam Smith saved the day to help continue their Cup adventure. Other entertaining affairs included Canvey Island’s 3-2 victory over Cray Wanderers as two goals from Evans Kouassi helped the hosts survive a late scare.
