NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR
At first glance, Hadestown may sound like a story about darkness. For some, even the name Hades can raise concern. But long before this story was a musical, and long before it arrived on Broadway, it belonged to the world of Greek mythology: a culture’s attempt to explain love, loss, seasons, suffering, and the ache of being human.
In Greek mythology, Hades is not the devil. He is not a biblical figure, and he is not meant to represent Satan. He is the ruler of the underworld in an ancient mythological tradition. Like many myths, the story of Orpheus and Eurydice was told and retold because it gave people language for the things they could not easily explain: grief, fear, doubt, and the fragile courage it takes to love someone in a broken world.
That is the story we are telling.
Hadestown is a story about a world out of balance. The seasons are not right. The earth is tired. People are hungry, afraid, and searching for security. Hades has built a world that promises safety, structure, and provision, but it comes at the cost of freedom, beauty, and hope. Eurydice is drawn toward that promise. Orpheus believes a song can change the world. And all of them must wrestle with the same question we still wrestle with today: What do we trust when the world feels unstable?
I cannot help but see echoes of the Fall in this story. In the beginning, God created a world in perfect harmony. Creation was ordered, whole, and in tune with its Creator. But when sin entered the world through Adam, that harmony was fractured. The ground itself was cursed. Work became toil. Relationships were strained. Fear entered the human heart. From that moment on, humanity has lived in a world that is not as it was meant to be.
That is the world of Hadestown: a world out of tune.
Orpheus is a character who can still hear the song of what the world was supposed to be. He believes that if he can finish the song, if he can sing the melody clearly enough, maybe the seasons can return, maybe love can survive, maybe the world can be brought back into tune. There is something deeply moving about that desire. It is the ache of every human heart that looks at suffering, injustice, grief, and fear and says, “This is not how it is supposed to be.”
But Orpheus cannot fully restore the world. His song is beautiful, but it is not enough to undo the curse. And that is where the gospel speaks with a hope mythology can only long for.
Jesus came to do what no human song, system, or hero could accomplish. Through His death and resurrection, He broke the power of sin and made
redemption possible. He began the work of making all things new. And yet, we still live in the tension of the already and the not yet. We have been redeemed, but the world has not yet been fully restored. We still see sickness, death, injustice, fear, and sorrow. We still feel the aftershocks of Eden.
That tension lives inside this story.
For this production, we wanted the world of Hadestown to feel real and close. Not whimsical. Not distant. Not fantasy for fantasy’s sake. Our vision is rooted in labor, industry, dust, wood, iron, rope, and sweat. Above ground, the world is warm but unstable. Below, Hadestown is not fire and brimstone. It is a factory. A system. A machine. It is what happens when provision is separated from compassion, when authority is driven by fear, and when people forget that they were made for more than survival.
And still, we tell the story again.
That is one of the most beautiful and haunting ideas in Hadestown. The ending may be old, but the act of telling it again is not hopeless. It is an act of remembrance. It is a way of saying that love is still worth singing about, that faith is still worth fighting for, and that even in a world out of balance, we can keep reaching for the light.
As Christians, we know the final word is not tragedy. We know that one day, what is broken will be made whole. What is out of tune will be brought back into harmony. Until then, we sing. We hope. We remember. And we keep telling the story.

Tyler Hutchinson, Director
Tyler is a passionate theater enthusiast who loves God and everything related to CYT! He’s been fortunate enough to travel across the US, Canada, Australia and South Africa to perform, lead worship, preach and teach. Tyler has worked in community, regional, and professional theaters, but it was CYT that stole his heart back in 2012. Starting out as a teacher, he eventually became the Artistic Director for CYT Indianapolis before relocating to Dallas and founding CYT Dallas. His main goal is to teach students how to use their talents to glorify God.

Elise Dolan, Choreographer
Elise Dolan is originally from Rockford, Illinois. She has trained in various types of dance including Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Lyrical, Hip Hop, Contemporary, and Modern. Prior to moving to Dallas, she danced at Steps to Grace Dance Academy and performed with their ensemble team for 7 years. Elise was involved with CYT Rockford and performed in musicals at her high school and a community theater. She trained and toured the country with Ingredients Dance Company from 2010-2012. She has also taught dance for 6 years at A Time to Dance Studio in Hickory Creek, TX. Elise has been with CYT Dallas since the start and has loved every minute of it! She is always thrilled to get the chance to instruct others on how to grow in their movement and stage presence and to help them learn what God has called them to do with their gifts and talents. And most importantly how to worship God in everything they do! She loves being a part of the CYT family and is excited to continue to watch it grow!
Kate Gesch, Stage Manager
Kate Gesch holds a bachelor’s degree in Arts Management and Musical Theatre from Eastern Michigan University, where she also stage managed for the Theatre and Dance departments. Prior to joining CYT Dallas in 2016, her professional resume included Stage Management for the Undermain Theatre in Dallas, Dance Studio Management for the Peter Sparling Dance Company in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Box Office/Front-of House Management for the University of North Texas Department of Dance and Theatre. Kate has served CYT Dallas in multiple roles including Managing Director, Stage Manager, Director, and Teaching Artist. Her most recent directing credits include Newsies (CYT Dallas Summer Stock 2024) and Bye Bye Birdie (CCT Summer Stock 2025.)

Johanna is thrilled to reunite with the CYT Dallas family for Hadestown. Most recently, she worked with KidsActing in Austin, TX on The Little Mermaid and The Lion King, Jr. Previous credits include: Annie, Bring It On, Chicago, Newsies, Peter Pan, The Addams Family, West Side Story, and more. She holds a Master of Music in Collaborative Piano and Music Entrepreneurship from the University of North Texas and a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from Missouri Baptist University. Aiden Parker has spent 4 years with CYT Dallas. This is his 6th and last show. He has witnessed God’s incredible glory here at CYT. This is my fifth show ever and fourth show with CYT. I have helped tech seven other shows.
Samuel Porter, 18
Orpheus
Samuel is a senior in high school and has been apart of the CYT family for four years now. CYT has truly changed his life. He is a better Christian and a better man because of CYT. He has gotten the privilege to play various role over the years including: Will Bloom (Big Fish), Captain Von Trapp (Sound of Music), and Davey (Newsies).
Sasha Saynor, 14
Fate
Sasha is in 9th grade at POPCS & is proud to be in her 8th CYT show! With 10 years of dance & theater, she also enjoys cheerleading & soccer. Favorite roles: Summer (School of Rock), Matilda (Matilda), & Alice (The Addams Family). She thanks her directors, friends, & family for their support. Most of all, she thanks God. Enjoy the trip to Hadestown as much as she has!
Shira-Sion Vincent, 18

A’ight! Sisi is a high school senior and is so excited to perform in Hadestown! This is her fourth show with CYT and she is incredibly grateful for the love shown to her here. Sisi wants to thank her family, friends, and teachers for their support. Proverbs 16:3.
Tobin Woodward, 17

Tobin has recently turned 17, and is currently enjoying his 8th CYT show. If Tobin is not found goofing off with his CYT friends he will likely be seen camping with his scout friends or handing out delicious Whataburger orders (the one in Lantana). Tobin REALLY appreciates his parents and the CYT staff for supporting him.

Trinity Young, 16
Workers Ensemble
Trinity, young at the ripe age of 16, has been doing CYT since she can remember. She has been in several shows like The Lion King, Mary Poppins, and Newsies. Trinity has an ostentatious appreciation for musical theater and the liberal arts. Since infancy, Trinity has passionately advocated for pockets for women.
Taifah Njuguna, 16

Taifah is a Sophmore at Marcus and this is their 8th show with CYT. In his free time, Taifah enjoys listening to music and hanging out with friends. Thanks for coming and enjoy the show!
Walker Guidroz, 14
Workers Ensemble
This is Walker’s eighth CYT show. You may have seen him in his very first role as “Michael Banks” in Mary Poppins. When Walker is not acting with his friends at CYT, he enjoys playing football and listening to all genres of music.

Zoey is 15 years old and excited to be in her 7th CYT production. In her spare time you can find her reading, writing stories, and making homemade productions with her sisters

Assistant Stage Manager
Abby is a homeschool graduate who’s slightly obsessed with matcha. She is beyond grateful for the incredible time she’s had at CYT and the opportunity to serve on the tech team for so many productions. She would like to thank the CYT staff and directing teams who have poured into her over these last four years. They believed in her when she didn’t believe in herself, and saw her when she thought she wasn’t seen. She is forever grateful for them. Abby would also like to highlight her amazing family: without their endless love and support, she wouldn’t be here today. Hey y’all! I’m Nora! I’m 15 years old and this is my fourth time being an assistant stage manager for CYT Dallas! I love this role because I get to support the cast as they grow in the Lord and their musicality!
