Orange’s big Carols night Orange City Council’s Carols by Candlelight is arguably Orange’s most popular event for families. It’s an evening where the community comes together to join in song and celebrate the festive season on December 8 from 7pm. This year musical performances will be by Orange Regional Conservatorium’s Orchestra and Chamber Choir, the City
of Orange Brass Band and the Canobolas Highland Pipe Band. There will be a dance performance by Colour City Dance and there will be a handful of food items available for purchase but be sure to bring along a picnic rug and a few nibbles. Glowstix and candles (fake ones) will be available to buy and there will be a merry-go-round and face-painting.
We’ve been in touch with the North Pole and are working with Santa’s agents to see if we can book him in for a visit. They’ve told us he is incredibly busy at that time of year and can’t guarantee anything. However, we have heard, on good authority, if Orange’s children are extra kind, caring and clean up their rooms he may be able to squeeze in a quick stop over... spread the word.

Busby Marou: the Sound of Summer Debuting no.1 in the ARIA Chart with their latest album Postcards from The Shell House, Busby Marou return to Orange with their dreamy beachinspired indie pop for a party after all their hard work. With its sand-between-yourtoes inspired memories from, Postcards from The Shell House is the third album from duo Tom Busby and Jeremy Marou. It’s seen the boys seemingly find their spot on not only Australian music agendas, but also internationally. It was partly recorded on the duo’s ‘spiritual home’ Great Keppel Island, where they wrote most of the album’s songs and tested them out around a fire with friends. “We wanted to record this album with a similar approach to how we used to play when we first started - acoustic duo
voice and just the two of us playing most of the instruments combined with a splash of current production,” Tom Busby said. The duo has had an annular reality of packing the tour bus, hitting the road and then building up for the seclusion of the recording studio since their first self-titled release in 2011. Building on great acclaim and reception in the last 18 months, they’ve just released a single ‘Sound of Summer’, which is to be the theme song for 7Cricket in coming months. Busby Marou play at Orange Ex-Services’ Club on Friday 23 November. Tom said to expect a “big night”. “We’re bringing the full band which we don’t often do, so we are so excited about sharing the stage with the A team. This means we can play the acoustic set but also turn on party mode if the crowd is feeling it,” he said. Support act, folk-rock duo Little Georgia, is joining the act on tour on the back of releasing their debut album All the While. Handel’s Messiah Concert
The Orange Regional Conservatorium (ORC) and Orange Symphony Orchestra combine to present one of history’s greatest works of classical music, Handel’s Messiah on Sunday November 25 at 2.30pm. The performance will be conducted by Ben Macpherson OAM and feature soloists, Samantha Bartholomeusz, Narelle Hissey, Michael Butchard and William Moxey. Handel’s Messiah was originally composed in 1741 by George Frideric Handel and gained its popularity over the next year becoming one of the best known and most frequently performed choral works in Western music.
Handel’s Messiah is one of the most loved pieces of music to sing with an orchestra and is regularly performed in the lead up to Christmas. ORC Marketing and Events, James Buchanan said, “Our big end of year concert is always a huge event, the auditorium is filled with people and musicians all taking part and enjoying themselves. Usually we have 50-70 singers onstage along with the Orange Symphony Orchestra, an ever-growing group of local professional and enthusiast musicians”.
