“THERE’S NO PLACE LIKE HOME” PICTURE COMP Love photography and want the wider world to see your work? “There’s no place like home” is this year’s theme for Regional Development Australia Central West’s (RDA Central West) annual photography competition. Applications are now open with applicants encouraged to capture the essence of their hometown. Chair of RDA Central West, Ruth Fagan, said the competition is a wonderful platform to highlight everything that is special about our region. “There truly is no place like home and the ‘Central West is Best’ photography competition is a great way to capture what you love most about your community,” Mrs Fagan said. “The Central West is a great place to live and we want to see entries that highlight why there is no place like it – this could be a place, person or an event – and entries also don’t need to be current. “We’ve all spent a lot of time at home due to COVID-19 but I think it has led to a deeper appreciation for the Central West, so I’m looking forward to seeing this year’s entries and celebrating our region!” Entry into the 2021 ‘Central West is Best’ Photography Competition is free and open to all ages and photographic abilities. Country-girl Megan’s KEEN PHOTOGRAPHIC EYE — DAVID DIXON —

Megan Rutherford doesn’t have artistic antecedents. he science-trained country girl though has recently discovered a native talent for beautiful, rural-based photography.

A finalist in the Central West Photography Competition with her portrait “Shearing Time”, she found her love of art almost by accident. Mother of three young girls, Cassie, 5, Georgie, 4, and Kate, 2, she also runs with her husband the cattle and sheep property “Sugarloaf”, near Blayney. “I’ve always lived on a farm, I grew up on a sheep and cattle property at St George in Queensland,” Megan explained. “I haven’t always had an interest in photography, I worked up until my first child was born.” A trained scientist working in agricultural research in Orange, her creative talents only took off after she became a mother. “I come from a very scienceminded lifestyle, I studied science at Armidale at UNE (University of New England),” she said. “We’re on a sheep and cattle farm at Fitzgerald’s Valley and, being at home with the kids, I just felt I needed something to fill the gap. I was surprised, very surprised, I’m a research scientist with my background very research-based.”

Unlike many in the creative fields, she doesn’t have an old poetic great uncle or water-colour painting grandmother who she can trace her artistic yearning to. “Not at all, my family are farmers, I’m a fairly blackand-white sort of person. “There’s no artistic background in my family at all, my family are very farm-like people,” she said. “But it was something that I decided to get into to fill the gap in my life, and I found that I really liked the creative nature of it,” she said. As well as her prize-winning entry in the Regional Development Australia-sponsored competition, this year she also put together a calendar for 2022 with a very rural theme. “It’s a bit like the Elder’s Calendar and I was a bit nervous about how it would go,” she said. Still only 32, she also runs a photographic business specialising in touching family portraits with a rural theme. “Because of my farming knowledge, I now do family sessions in rural settings, just trying to capture them naturally – the aim is to not be so structured,” she said. “I think people appreciate that I come from a farming background myself, and they’ve become quite popular.

“It’s good, because it’s also a chance to fit in with my lifestyle – to keep up with my tiny kids as well,” she said of her girls, all of whom are at home at the moment due to the lockdowns. She admits her business, Megan Rutherford Photography, which she only started about 12 months ago, was a bit of a leap into the unknown. “I sort of didn’t know what to make of it, but it’s been going pretty well. I really love the creative process. I love the fact that I’ve captured them in a way that they like, it makes me feel great,” she added. Megan was also recently involved in an NSW Farmers Association project to educate school children about the importance of farming to our society. “The aim was to bring farming into the classroom. The fact that I come from a farm helped, I think,” she said. Like most of us, Megan is just waiting for lockdown to lift so as to be able to get back to her niche business of realistically capturing farming families on their properties in the modern agricultural age. “I’m happy to do photos of people in their farms and show them as they would like to be portrayed. Most like the fact that I have a farming knowledge, I just think that really helps,” Megan concluded.

Don’t Just Wonder – Reach Out! At times like this, we should all stick together!

That is why Orange City Life – along with Rochelle Ashcroft of Ashcroft’s IGA – has recently launched our new campaign on keeping an eye out for each other called “Don’t Just Wonder – Reach Out”.

With a passionate interest in the issues surrounding mental health in the Orange area, local MP Phil Donato is also on board with calls for interested local businesses to also do their bit. Local philanthropist Rochelle recently joined Orange City Life to encourage us to keep in touch with those most vulnerable in this most difficult time. The initiative is part of our latest campaign for the Colour City by encouraging locals to make that extra effort to ensure that we’re all okay during the forced isolation of the lockdown and beyond. Rochelle has also, as usual, put her money where her heart is, printing hundreds of the badges for her staff with an offer to provide more for other local businesses who want to get on board. “It’s to promote the importance of maintaining our mental health during this time and we were keen to support it,” Rochelle said.

Not so hot... fourth warmest winter ever leaves me cold

Founder of the modern German state Otto von Bismarck once said, “A journalist is a man who missed his vocation.” Well, if that’s the case, I know what my livelihood should have been. My career choice, up to realising in my HSC year that my mathematics sucked, was as an ecologist. I was going to study animal species in the wild with the ultimate dream of discovering the last-surviving population of the famed Tasmanian Tiger (Thylacine), seemingly extinct since 1933. The Harry Butler television series, David Attenborough wildlife documentaries, books on native wildlife, sketches of bird species in our urban fringe of Sydney’s south-west. Birds, animals and the environment were an endless fascination to me, until my second choice of journalism saved me from the fog of calculus, complex equations, and probability. An environmentalist from an early age, I designed a solar-powered water heater for my Year Nine science experiment, marched against nuclear proliferation, and handed out how-tovote cards for Peter Garrett as the first Greens Senate candidate in Australian history. So, one might imagine that the news that Australia just had its supposedly fourth warmest winter on record would leave me hot under the collar. That I’d be passionate about the horrendous impacts of climate change, urging for zero carbon emissions at all costs, and championing the closure of our coalfired power stations. Well, “no”.

I recall researching and writing my first-ever feature on “global warming” in 1990 for the now-defunct Central Tablelands Sunday newspaper, ironically, during one of the coldest winters ever where the Central Tablelands had more than 30 days of recorded snow. Calling up the climatologists and meteorologists in those distant, innocent days, it was notable that almost all were very wary of assigning individual weather events to possible impacts of man-made climate change. That was more than 30 years ago, and how much has changed. One can’t look at any left-leaning news service like the ABC, the Sydney Morning Herald, or the Guardian without constant bombardment on the justover-the-horizon climate disasters that we are all facing. Anyone with a sense of sporting spirit, though, has to admit it’s a great cause. It’s literally “saving the planet”; it requires vast amounts of taxpayers’ money to re-engineer both our society and power supply; it allows self-centred celebrities to claim moral superiority over everyone else while themselves living in mansions and driving limousines; and it’s supposed devastating effects are always in the future. Oh, and most of its impacts fall on the poorest and least-represented people in our society, the working classes paying higher energy bills and mining the coal and running the factories and power stations most impacted by its policies. Old-style environmentalist trying to save the pandas and the humpback whales; they had no idea what they were missing-out on.

“Teaching during lockdown has certainly been an interesting experience.” Teaching is one of those professions that’s reserved for people of a certain ilk and grit for tolerating long-hours, unpredictability presented on all fronts, and managing the temperaments of developing students while instilling their education. It’s a tough job – and any teacher will tell you that on a good day. Nonetheless, every teacher will always state how incredibly rewarding their professions are, despite the daily challenges. For Canobolas High School teacher, Mr Jesse Bennett, it all began with a passion for helping people and yearning to provide support towards individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. “I didn’t decide to be a teacher until I was in high school. When planning my future, I knew I wanted to do something to help people. I

considered becoming a paramedic or police officer. But after giving it some thought, I decided that the place where I could do the best for others was in education,” Jesse said. Working in the faculty of Human Society and Its Environment (HSIE), Jesse’s specialisation is in teaching history, a subject which he has great admiration for and interest in. “I am very passionate about the subject and I believe history is one of the most important subjects students can learn. History provides them with the opportunity to learn about other cultures, understand the context of modern society, and learn how to conduct research and evaluate sources.” While HSIE is Jesse’s bread and butter in teaching, he has also taught classes across Science, English and Mathematics. He has been able to do that thanks to his diverse tertiary education background covering many

WHAT’S HAPPENING AT CADIA foundational schooling subjects. Being a teacher usually requires one’s self to be a jack of all trades. Due to the everchanging modern classroom environments, teachers are having to navigate their students between offline and online teaching. Which has become one of the major challenges presented to educators within this pandemic age. “The greatest challenge has been the lack of resources developed with this style of learning in mind. Teachers are having to create entirely new units of work designed to support students learning from home,” he said. “This includes consideration into whether the classwork is easy or hard enough, are students able to access online material, and how are they able to receive and return their work within an COVID safe way,” he said, adding that another challenge is how teachers can assess what students have learnt and provide feedback within this current learning style. “Teaching during lockdown has certainly been an interesting experience,” Jesse admits. Despite the difficulties and hurdles these lockdowns have thrown at both students and teachers alike, there’s always room for acknowledging the good of what the schooling experience brings during these rocky times. Despite not being able to currently “work in the business” due to the ripple effect of the lockdown, Haley is staying productive by focusing on “doing a tonne of work on her business”. Haley says, “My admin work is pristine, and I have also been offering online makeup classes and selling products to keep myself busy.” Haley has a few plans for the future in development, but she’s keeping those up her sleeve for upcoming reveals, and hoping the lockdown will end sooner rather than later. Like a musician wanting to play live music, Haley can’t wait to get back out there and start applying her hair and makeup craft once again for her clients. “I can’t wait to get back to work and do what I love.”

ADF CONTINUES REGIONAL VACCINE ROLLOUT

Over the past 3 weeks, the ADF have set-up vaccination clinics in 32 locations across Western NSW. This week, it’s Orange’s turn! The troops have established the pop-up clinic at the new DPI New DPI Building at 105 Prince St, and will be administering jabs until Sunday 12 September. So far, the site has been a success, with more than 500 Pfizer doses making their way into arms each day of the 7 day vaccination spree! It’s wonderful to see thousands of residents put the health of their family, friends, and community first by coming forward to get the jab. In about 3 weeks, the army will return to administer the second dose of the vaccine. The Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) has strongly recommended anyone aged 18 years and above to get any available vaccine, and has given the green light for children 12 years old and up to receive the Pfizer vaccine. An ADF Vaccination Outreach Team is made up of 8 medics, 1 clinician (either a doctor or nurse) and 5 logistics officers, as well as members of the Western NSW Local Health District. In total, 70 members of the Australian Army are taking part in the push to protect our country communities from COVID-19. I had my second AstraZeneca jab at the end of July, so I am fully covered, and I feel grateful knowing I am safe if the virus was to come knocking at my door.

I did a volunteer shift at the Orange clinic with the RFS. I’d like to thank all of the agencies and also DPI staff who have come together to run this clinic. I would encourage everyone to get vaccinated. It’s in plentiful supply and booking an appointment is easy, with clinics, many GPs and pharmacies, and the ADF pop-up hubs offering the vaccine. The ADF pop-up clinic will run in Orange until 4:30pm on Sunday 12 September. Spring Hill farmer Frederick Augustus Wass claimed in 1966 that he was the oldest continually residing resident in the Orange district. Frederick’s father, John Wass, travelled by dray from Parramatta to Bathurst in the early 1850s, marrying a former governess for the Suttor family before settling in the Spring Hill district. By 1966 Frederick was the only son still living on the same selection taken up by his father. Frederick, aged 85, is pictured with his second wife Sally, nee Bargwanna, aged 80. Her first husband was Frank Hicks.

— The next Orange City Council meeting will be held on Tuesday September 21, 2021.

Orange Regional Gallery is seeking experienced and motivated central west artists to participate in its Artist Educator Pilot Program. The program, which is funded by the NSW Government, invites practicing artists to develop and deliver exhibitionlinked workshops and other activities for the gallery’s younger audience.

The latest stage of Orange’s southern feeder road is on track to be finished next month with the construction of a new intersection.

Gallery Director Bradley Hammond said they were looking for artists with experience in facilitating meaningful connections with art.

The new upgraded intersection meets the Mitchell Highway about 250 metres west of the former intersection, at the corner of Dairy Creek Road and the highway. The new intersection will include new turning lanes off the highway and a culvert over a drainage channel. Traffic has been using the completed sections of the road, east from Elsham Ave, since late June. Orange Mayor Reg Kidd has welcomed the latest construction. “Passing drivers on the highway have been watching the progress of the road with interest, as it cuts across the paddock from the new road to the highway,” Cr Reg Kidd said. Work on the almost completed $7.5 million twokilometre-long Stage 3 project began in November last year. The project upgraded the line of Dairy Creek Road and Blowes Road from Elsham Avenue to the Mitchell Highway. “It’s going to be a lot smoother for traffic heading towards industrial areas, the hospital and south Orange to use this new intersection,” Cr Kidd said. The project includes a new shared pedestrian/ cycle path from Elsham Avenue to Kurim Avenue, connecting to the existing path which crosses the railway line. There’s also new street lighting from Elsham Ave to Lone Pine and then again at the highway intersection. Stage 3 of the project is funded by Orange City Council, the Australian Government and the NSW Government through: The Australian Government’s Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program – $3 million The NSW Government’s Infrastructure NSW Program (Regional Growth) – $3 million Orange City Council – $1.5 million Orange City Council’s Infrastructure Committee chair, Cr Jeff Whitton said he was pleased the Council has also recently put the next stage of the southern feeder out to tender. “Infrastructure projects like this are so important for the Orange economy and I’m glad we’re keeping the momentum going during these tough COVID times,” Cr Jeff Whitton said. “The tender for Stage 4 from Anson Street west towards Shiralee will close at the end of this month. It would be great if we were in a position to award that tender during October, so that construction could start before the end of the year.”

“The artist educators will bring their own creative practice and experience to our programs, offering unique perspectives on our collections and exhibitions,” Mr Hammond said. Expressions of interest are open to people living in the Central West Local Government Areas of Orange, Bathurst, Blayney, Cabonne, Cowra, Forbes, Lachlan Shire, Lithgow, Oberon, Parkes and Weddin Shire. “We are looking for artists from right across the region. The Orange Gallery is one of the great institutions in the region and as this program illustrates it is much more than a place to visit,” Cr Munro said.

New traffic study finds local roads can handle sports precinct An independent traffic study into the impact of the Orange Regional Sports Precinct and parklands has found nearby roads have the capacity to handle traffic generated by the project. The traffic study, prepared by consultants Premise, was lodged as part of the latest Development Application (DA) for the proposed new precinct. The latest DA lodged with Orange City Council also includes the design of the precinct’s new landscape master plan, prepared by landscape architects Taylor Brammer and outlines plans for tree removal and earthworks.

Orange Mayor Reg Kidd said he was pleased to see the results of the traffic study. “It was expected that an important community facility attracting hundreds of families every weekend would have an impact on local traffic,” Cr Reg Kidd said. “I’m pleased to see the facts are on the table, which show local roads have the capacity to deal with the extra cars.” The traffic study looked at current volumes using the road, and even after projecting for expected growth through to 2028, found there is enough capacity to handle the traffic generated by the sports precinct. The assessment is based on the current road network, which will be improved prior to the opening of the precinct through the expansion of the Southern Feeder Road, which will provide new access points to the precinct. “This analysis comes from traffic experts and it’s important to have that considered as part of the DA.

It’s important too that there will be enough car parking spaces to manage demand on a typical weekend,” Cr Kidd said. Designs for the $25 million precinct include five new car parks with 1019 parking spaces and a bus drop off zone at the football stadium. The study estimates 716 cars would use the car parks when all eight fields are in use on a typical Saturday.

“While the community has been discussing this proposal for many months, it’s important that residents and community groups keep asking questions,” Cr Hamling said. “While planning authorities won’t be considering the details of the grandstand design or the location of the athletics track in this DA, the big-picture proposal of what’s planned is clearly there to be seen.”

Community feedback will be included in the proposal when it’s sent to the NSW Heritage Council for The DA also recommends a special event traffic management plan would be needed when hosting one- consideration. It will then be considered by Orange City Council, before it’s sent to the Western Regional off major sporting events. Orange City Council’s Sport & Recreation Committee Planning Panel who will make the final decision on this DA. That process is expected to take between two and chair, Cr Jason Hamling said there will be an three months. opportunity for the community to comment on this latest stage of works when the DA goes on public exhibition for 28 days.

She was only fifteen when she began.

They had broken shifts because the passenger trains arrived at 10pm and 4am. The girls were required to work from 3am until 9am and then return at 10pm to be ready for the late train. Fortunately the rooms were closed during the day.

When he was a boy, Harold’s father told him about the camel train he owned in the 1920s, in which he used to carry wool and wheat in the back country around Bourke.

But the passengers also had to be fed.

There were special skills needed for drivers in the high country.

“There were four or five big tables and a wooden counter and a bar,” Norma said.

In NSW in the 19th Century, passenger traffic was the largest single purpose of train journeys.

Mavis remembered the crowds and the vast amount of washing up after the train had left.

As the rail system expanded passengers often travelled for long hours, and the provision of refreshments became essential.

“It was a rush and a bustle to serve them with tea in huge pots, coffee, hot pies and sandwiches.

When he grew up Harold also took goods to the outback, but this time the train was driven by steam. Like most people working for the railway Harold began on the lowest rung, cleaning the big steam engines in the yards at Nyngan.

Engines were equipped with a sanding device to stop them slipping in the icy conditions. “We were coming home from Bathurst, leaving Blayney on a fairly heavy grade to Milthorpe. It was one of those ‘Orange’ kind of days with sleety snow blowing across the track.

By the time he became a driver of those engines he knew them very well indeed.

As quickly as we laid the sand down , it was blown off by the wind and the train was slipping.

It was when he was stationed as a Fireman at Lithgow that he learned from the older men the skills needed to travel up and down the mountains, bypassing the old Zig Zag through a series of tunnels.

If we delayed it would upset the whole timetable,” Harold said.

He was appointed to Orange as a Driver in 1962 and retired here in 1984. “I had to learn the railroads around here and all the old hands were a great help.

By sheer hard work they managed to reach Orange without too much time being lost. Such was the job and the hours, that a great deal of dedication was needed by all the members of the railway team to keep to schedule, and sometimes the trains were indeed delayed. My impression though, was that

John remembered one at Parkes when he was boy which served roast dinners and his own particular favourite, “bubble and squeak”. The refreshment room at Orange was slightly less palatial. I talked to sisters, Mavis and Norma of Orange, who both worked there just after World War 2.

“We rushed about with coffee and toast”, she said. “There was only a fuel stove and no dishwasher except for me!” There were at least six girls working at the Refreshment Rooms. It wasn’t all work though. Romance was in the air and many girls met and married railway staff. It was cold in the depths of winter in Orange, but the coal fires on the station were always alight and no matter what time of day or night there was always someone about who could give directions and somewhere to keep warm. Farm work can be boring, just slogging away on your own, so any opportunity for a yarn is always welcome – even sheep dip salesmen get a hearing if time is not pressing. One of my regular visitors was a retired tea salesman. He had made a living travelling round the back blocks selling tea to the outlying stations, and quite successfully, it seems. Since retiring, Jack had concentrated his attention and energy on training Thoroughbreds with doubtful success, and he found me a handy source of oats for his gallopers. Jack would arrive in his great big Yank Tank of a car (more like a bookie than a trainer), towing a tiny box trailer which was so small he couldn’t reverse it as he couldn’t see the trailer, but that was OK. Jack was always good for a yarn, on any topic from climate change to women’s health; always enquired caringly about my wife, but I dodged the subject as his reputation with women was a bit questionable; seems he dealt in more than tea on some lonely outback situations.

We seem to be in limbo at the moment. I think we need some forward momentum, something to look forward to and to bring us together as a community.

One councillor has spoken in support. Cr Stephen Nugent emphasised the proposal was voluntary and did not involve renaming Orange. He said it was a ‘great initiative’ to recognise the Wiradjuri people.

Some of the best projects I have been involved with were in my time at Fairfield City Council, including Aquatopia Water Park, Fairfield Adventure Playground, and Fairfield Obstacle Course.

Orange Mayor Cr Reg Kidd has said “Wiradjuri Country” is already recognised at entrance signs to the city and he did not agree with including it in the council address.

As a GP, I think I must have written at least 50 applications for medical priority for social housing in Orange. Adequate supply simply isn’t there.

Wouldn’t it be fabulous to have a giant playground in Orange? We need an attraction for families and more things for children and young people to do, so this is something I’m going to fully test among the broader community.

Councillors are often talking about putting “Orange on the map”, perhaps the address was wrong. What do you think? This is a matter for community discussion.

Insecure accommodation makes a person vulnerable in many ways and impacts their health and ability to work as well.

I understand that the Adventure Playground at the Orange Botanic Gardens was a community project that brought together families and service clubs in developing and looking after it. I have used the term Boomerang Park as a working title as it will keep people coming back! It could go on the NDR site that was originally bought by Council for the Sport Stadium, or near to the new Service Centre that will be built on the NDR so there is somewhere for families travelling to get rid of some energy before continuing their journey. No doubt there will be other possible sites too. I have talked to friends at my Rotary Club, and we think this would be a really great project to get service clubs and families working together to achieve something for Orange. Vaccination rates, delays, shortages At our pharmacy last week, we vaccinated 435 people against COVID-19. It’s great to see that so many people want to be vaccinated, and many are overcoming their concerns to help do what is needed to allow our lives to return to some semblance of normality. We’re all being constantly told to get vaccinated and exposed to a barrage of information about vaccination rates and targets, which can leave some people feeling as though they’re not doing their bit if they’re not yet vaccinated. For months, though, there has been a huge shortage of the Pfizer vaccine, which is the one that is still the preferred vaccine for younger people. In fact, on Sunday evening (August 29), I scanned the eligibility checker to see what the wait time was for a Pfizer vaccine and the earliest available appointment was late November. Since then, some local clinics have received some more stock and the ADF clinic running from September 6-10 will have both AZ (AstraZeneca) and Pfizer vaccines available. Many of the people choosing to have the AZ vaccine are younger people who have run out of patience in waiting for the Pfizer vaccine. That’s fine – the AZ vaccine is very safe and effective but the interval between doses is ideally 12 weeks (Pfizer is three weeks).

Before European settlement, the land had been home to First Nations Peoples – the Wiradjuri Nation – for at least 40,000 years.

Therefore, it will be quite some time before these people have had both vaccinations. It is unfair to these people if restrictions are partially eased for those fully-vaccinated because they really haven’t had the opportunity to be fully vaccinated any earlier.

Rachael McPhail, a Gomeroi woman, started a campaign to consider including the Traditional Place names in mailing addresses to celebrate our First Nations people.

It creates an incentive to have the second dose earlier, which while still very protective against hospitalisation and death, is not as effective in preventing symptoms or allowing transmission.

In support and to mark NAIDOC Week in November 2020, Australia Post updated the addressing guidelines to include Traditional Place names.

I hope nobody in this situation is disadvantaged just so we can say that we have more people vaccinated.

ABC News recently reported national house prices increasing over the past year at $2000 a week. Last year’s median sale price of a house in Orange was $540,000. This is clearly a close to insurmountable barrier for people on a low income. Addressing this problem will be complex. It could involve advocating for more social housing, reducing household financial pressures, land availability or smoothing the DA process. These are all things that the Council could influence. I feel with housing prices increasing, and stagnant or dropping wages, this will affect more people in future years. I’d be very keen to hear people’s thoughts about what can be done locally to lessen this problem.

I have been following with interest the very-informative series where prospective council candidates have been able to put forward their views and ideas. One candidate, however, has lost my vote. Amanda Spalding, in her explanation as to why she has pulled out of ORRA, writes: “I now believe I was too ambitious in my attempts to bring together people with very different opinions and values...” This statement must bring into doubt whether she can “bring together” a new Council team.

I am extremely active young fellow who hasn’t had the best start to life. But I’m more than happy to start experiencing all there is in the world.

Being a Kelpie, I am going to need a lot of exercise and mental stimulation to keep me healthy and happy! Going on long walks and maybe even some agility training would do wonders for me I think! I also love love LOVE food, so I’ll do anything you ask for some treats. I don’t know many commands now, but I’ll get the hang of it pretty quickly I reckon. I am a little sensitive to being touched as well, so a quick pat every once in a while would be just enough for me. Because of this, I might not be the best with young kids, they tend to be a bit grabby and I would like to avoid that please! I am a little skinny at the moment, so I still have a bit of weight to put back on before I am at my goal weight.

But I’m not far off so it won’t take me too long to get there! I also am told that I have some pretty interesting ears, I may be missing a chunk or two at the tips but this doesn’t bother me at all. Did you have any other furry friends at home? You do? Then please bring them down so the two of us can meet! I don’t mind other dogs, as I have been around them in the past, but I would like to make sure that we’ll get along just fine first. I don’t remember if I’ve been around livestock before either...so it may be better for me if I don’t go to a working farm. I don’t think I would be very much help anyway!
