On a brighter note, you’ve started today well by picking up this week’s issue of Orange City Life, it’s sure to put a smile on your face as you start to flick through the pages, and you’ll notice a few old friends have returned, among these, our Trivia is back and so is a basic TV Guide. I hope you enjoy everything we have for you. Speaking about old friends, if there is something that once appeared in OC Life that you have missed, why not let us know, maybe we can do something about it. Over the years we’ve done so many things, one tends to forget a lot of them and when the Pandemic started, we had to drop a number of regular features just to survive. Social distancing also knocked out our access to the hospital for our new arrivals, also our access to aged care facilities for our Words of Wisdom segments and of course many family gatherings and events were cancelled. We’re slowly getting some of these back so hopefully you’ll be seeing more of the happy smiling faces you’re used to seeing in our magazine from here on. While on that, let me remind everyone that we’re still keen and willing to include photos of new arrivals (Hatches), weddings (Hitches), family celebrations, and of course social events in OC Life, and if you want one of our photographers to attend an event, just ask! for Ronald Mcdonald House Charities

Schools and businesses from around the Central West joined in the spirit of ‘Wear Red Day’ for Ronald Mcdonald House Charities last Thursday. Calare Public School enjoyed the opportunity to support a local charity and get creative with their ‘red-wear’, we saw KFC bucket hats, red tutus, red moustaches and more! A gold coin donation was collected on the day, to raise much needed funds to support families from this region. “We are absolutely thrilled that so many got behind Wear Red Day this year. All funds raised will remain in Orange to directly support families from the Central and Far West,” said executive officer Rebecca Walsh. “It is a classic case of country people looking after their friends, neighbours, school mates and work colleagues who may find themselves in a situation where they may need to seek specialist medical care for a child at Orange Hospital.”

Ronald McDonald House in Orange is a modern eight-unit facility which sleeps families of up to six people in rooms with ensuites and laundry facilities.

Since Ronald McDonald House Charities opened in Orange almost five years ago, 838 families from the central and far west have come to stay at the house for just a few days or up to months at a time.

Rebecca explained, “This provides so much flexibility for families who may travel to be together at weekends at a time when one or the other parent travels back home through the week to work and care for other family members at home. “And all the time they are just a short walk from the hospital where their baby, child or adolescent is receiving the very best specialist medical care.”

Wear Red Day began four years ago in the central west as an initiative of the Principal of Denison College in Bathurst Ken Barwick, and has grown from a small event to now become a major fundraiser on the Ronald McDonald House Charities Orange calendar.

The house in Orange operates with two paid employees – an executive officer and house manager, supplemented by a dedicated band of around 100 volunteers from Orange who are part of a 24/7, 365 day a year roster. They carry out a range of tasks including cleaning and housekeeping, administration, outdoor maintenance, meal preparation and fund raising.

Latest data compiled at the house in Orange shows that more than half of the accommodation nights so far provided to families has been in a time of crisis when children or young people come to Orange for specialist and often lifesaving treatment in the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Unit at Orange Hospital. Families come to Orange from a wide area of the state, as this is the only specialist unit of its type outside of Sydney. Well done to all involved.

Practice Park A few years back I went to Glenroi Oval with a Council staffer who was looking for ideas on how to improve that facility and help the local community. More recently I hear that Council has plans to upgrade the facilities there and I can’t help wondering if the idea that I put forward back then, doesn’t still have merit, if not for Glenroi Oval, maybe for a similar space elsewhere. For the sake of a name let’s call it Practice Park. My idea was to install a variety of facilities that would provide a simple means for practicing various sporting skills. In the same way that kids use cricket practice nets, basketball and netball rings to hone their skills, why not take that a step further and set up a designated park with a variety of facilities that kids could use.

When I was a kid, I used to go up a back lane and practice tennis against a wall that lent itself to such practice. Often a friend and I would play together, a bit like doubles. Why not set up a wall or two in a park where kids can take a tennis racquet and ball and just hit the ball against the wall? Why not also set up a wall or two with a soccer net painted on it where kids could kick a soccer ball against the wall? The wall provides a target and being a wall, the ball comes back in the general direction rather that having to chase it. Why not also put in place a couple of table

tennis tables that could enable learning basic table tennis skills? Of course, all these structures would need to be pretty solid and basically damage proof, but each are primarily designed to help kids develop or practice basic ball skills. Practice Park could have a variety of facilities including basketball, netball, soccer, tennis, cricket, table tennis to name a few. There are probably also other sports that could be included. In most cases, any kid with a bat or ball can use the facilities either alone or with friends and I’m sure the kids would find ways to add a competitive component. In the case of Glenroi Oval, it appears there is a clubhouse or building there which could also play a part, either by supplying equipment or even arranging guest coaches to teach the kids occasionally. At the time, I thought, what a great way to provide kids with something that would keep them active, keep them engaged, let them meet new friends, and all while helping them develop sporting skills that they could keep for life. Somewhere in here is a very good idea, maybe not exactly as I have suggested it, but certainly in some form. I should say that I’m not aware of such a facility anywhere, but if Orange found a way to do it, I’m certain other Councils would pick it up. The potential social benefits alone would appear to make it a concept well worth thinking about in more detail.

The last time the young farmers challenge was held, was back in 2015, the challenge ran a few years in a row before making way

There are also some great prizes that can be won on the day. The inaugural Ride Blue mental health awareness ride on April 10 wants to get local riders out of their sheds and open to talking about their own health. “Because there’s lots of men in Orange who restore old motorbikes and do stuff like that and they don’t mix with other people or get out of the shed,” said Richard Whitton, a retired mental health nurse educator and member of the Orange Classic and Cafe Racer Club, who have teamed up with the Orange Suicide Prevention Network to put on the ride. “It was started by a man called Steve Dougherty in 2015, basically as a loose cover for a Men’s health organization, where it was to get guys out of the shed. So we go to breakfast once a fortnight on a Sunday morning and basically talk about motorbikes and talk about men’s health, but it becomes a supporting organisation for each of us as well.” “Steve contacted Sharon Taylor and Casey Naden through the suicide prevention network to put this on and they’ve done a wonderful amount of work.” Ride Blue is not a fundraising event and thanks to

NEW FUNDING FOR FIXING LOCAL ROADS Round 2 of the Fixing Local Roads Program will see $150 million allocated to more than 100 road projects in 90 Local Government Areas. The Australian Government turbocharged the NSW Government’s $500 million Fixing Local Roads program by committing $191 million last year. The following new funding has been announced under Round 2: • $1.5 million for Beasley Road, Orange • $1.4 million for rehabilitation of Borenore Road • $1.9 million for improvements to Panuara Road, near Blayney All successful projects will be completed within two years to ensure local communities see the benefits as quickly as possible.

Whilst we have been focused on the terribly descrutive floods across NSW and beyond, the Australian Government has not lost sight of the importance of continuing to invest in our water infrastructure. This weekend, the Deputy Prime Minister, announced that the Government will establish through the National Water Grid Authority, a fund dedicated to building more smaller, targeted dams, weirs and pipelines through regional Australia. We will seek applications of up to $20 million from each state and territory, to be matched by the Federal Government to rapidly build the smaller water projects across the country.

Future of Work Scholarships now open! Applications are open for the Australian Government’s Future of Work Partnership with BHP. Up to 1000 people living in regional areas, including in Calare have the opportunity to study a short course or start an Advanced Apprenticeship, with their student contribution covered through the program. The initiative builds on the Government’s Job Ready Graduates package that will create an additional 100,000 university places by 2030, 50,000 new short course places and provides more incentives for regional students. The partnership is a great incentive for people in country areas, including the Central West, to take part in further study and training. This fantastic program will support growth in country areas by improving access to education, upskilling locals, and creating pathways to employment,. We know country people have to fight harder for these opportunities than their city cousins, so I’m delighted to see this program help level the playing field.

Australian travel agents will receive an additional $130 million from a second round of the Morrison Government’s COVID-19 Consumer Travel Support Program. This assistance is on top of the $128 million already committed in round one of the program and equates to over $250 million in support for the sector. So far, the Government has paid $90.5 million of this funding to support 2,638 travel agents. The purpose of the extension is to to support eligible travel agents for the next three months who continue to provide refunds and hold credits for Australians who are unable to travel due to COVID-19. The program forms part of the Australian Government’s $1.2 billion tourism and aviation package to support our 660,000 tourism industry workers when JobKeeper ends.

COVID VACCINE UPDATE Australia’s COVID-19 vaccination program is well under way, with more than 507,000 vaccines given at the close of business on Friday. 329,000 vaccines have been administered in state and territory vaccination clinics, 97,000 vaccines have been administered in general practices and more than 80,000 aged care residents have been vaccinated. Over 1,100 general practices, GP-led respiratory clinics and Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services are already providing vaccinations to people eligible in Phase 1b. This will grow to a broad national footprint of more than 4,000 general practices by the end of April. These will be complemented by more than 100 Commonwealth Vaccination Clinics and more than 100 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Health Services. Founded in 1985 by Audrey and fellow dancer Peter Fuller, the Orange Social Dance Group provides a weekly opportunity for beginner and experienced dancers to enjoy the sport they love. “It is just the joy of being able to move to the music and if you’ve got a good partner it is really lovely,” says Audrey, as to why she loves dancing. “And it is very good exercise — the best! Because it’s not like riding a bike or whatever, it is much more enjoyable and then there’s the people and the social part of it. Having friends around and having a chat. It is just a very social, nice thing to be doing.” When the group first started, they were assisted by a professional teacher, but it is now Audrey and other members who have taken on that role. “None of us are professional teachers. I’m the main one, but

we all help each other,” said Audrey, who runs regular beginner classes throughout the year.

COVID restrictions on dancing in licenced venues has meant the group had to move from their long-time home at the Orange City Bowling Club to the Orange Senior Citizens Centre.

“Anybody is welcome. We started a new beginner’s class in February, but unfortunately we only had single ladies interested. We really need single men really badly, but they are few and far between,” she said.

COVID also meant the group was unable to celebrate their 35th anniversary last year. “We would have had our 35th anniversary dance last October, but covid wrecked it and we haven’t decided if we’ll do another one at the end of this year. We might wait until the 40th now — if we are lucky enough!” said Audrey.

“We are trying to work out how to clone some of our better male dancers.” The group meets regularly every Thursday night, where they ballroom, latin and sequence dancing. Nooters Club

“Most of our members enjoy what is known as New Vouge dancing, which is sequence dancing where everybody does the same thing in a circle. We’ve got probably more than 70 dances on our repertoire; they are very pretty and it is all based on Ballroom or Latin steps,” said Audrey. “So what we teach in the beginners class is a basic ballroom and Latin steps and then we teach them a routine for a New Vouge. We are only social dancers, so we are not expecting them to dance like Dancing with the Stars.”

But it’s not just a condition that affects elderly animals – some breeds of dog are more prone to arthritis, and any overweight pet is at risk. Pets can’t tell us how they are feeling – so what signs should a caring owner look for? Have you noticed your dog looks sore in the morning? Is he reluctant to walk or play? Has their behaviour changed – perhaps he or she might be snappy when touched. An arthritic dog may limp, show stiffness or have difficulty getting upstairs. Jumping on to the couch might be hard work. If your dog is showing some or all of these symptoms, then a check up with one of the friendly vets at Mulberry Lane Vet Hospital is definitely needed. In cats it is harder to detect the early signs of arthritis. Cats are good at hiding pain, so it is important to keep a close eye on their behaviour. When we take Easter seriously! – BOB HOLLAND –

Regular readers will be aware that I proudly claim to be a Bible believing Christian, many will also be aware that my wife Jackie and I have been contending with a very challenging time in our lives over the last 12 months or more. Just over 12 months ago Jackie was diagnosed with a very rare and fatal brain disease called CJD, she was given as little as 4 months to live but some sufferers have been known to survive for up to 2 years. Jackie is still hanging in there, as am I. During the last 12 months I have been caring for Jackie virtually single handedly in our home. I won’t go into the details but be assured it has not been the most pleasant

time in our lives, in fact it’s been really tough at times and I think it’s fair to say that family and friends who are close to us are amazed at how well we have done and continue to do. I don’t know how many times various people have said to me that I’m doing a wonderful, incredible, or marvellous job. I just keep telling those who say this the same thing, I’m only doing what any man who loves his wife the way I love mine would do. That’s exactly how I feel, but truth be known, there’s a lot more going on than can be seen, stuff that’s hard to explain unless you’re a Christian. Probably the best way to explain what’s going on is to share this well know Christian poem -

This Easter, let me assure you that the only thing that’s wonderful, incredible, or marvellous about me is that over 60 years ago I took the Easter story serious and decided to live my life under the rule of Jesus Christ and to follow His word, the Bible, to the best of my ability ever since. I asked Jesus into my life at a Billy Graham Crusade in Sydney and one of the myriad of blessings or benefits that I’ve enjoyed since then, has been the strength He’s given me to negotiate this very challenging time of Jackie’s and my life. The Footprints in the Sand poem explains what’s been happening to us ever so clearly. A lot of people throughout the world are facing big challenges right now, some may be as serious as Jackie’s and mine or even more so, but whatever you’re facing, I can assure you, the battle will be easier if you have Jesus in your corner. This Easter, let me encourage you to take Easter more seriously and either attend a local Church service and or read one of the Bible accounts of the Easter story in the New Testament books of Matthew, Mark, Luke or John.

No matter how changed the world has become or how sophisticated the means of communication, young people still find each other and still take Cole Porter’s advice. To-day, they may come together on the internet or be in constant touch with each other by mobile phone.

Kath had a great talent which proved to be an asset when it came to making friends.

Things were not always so easy, but, nevertheless, to quote another old song-“Love will find a way.” I was talking to my group of old friends about what was known then as their ‘courting days.’ It convinced me that, no matter what we call it, human nature never really changes. Mary, who is well over ninety, lived in South Australia in her youth, and readily confessed that she had had her eye on her future husband for some time before they formally met. “He used to travel in the same railway carriage as I did between Largs Bay and Port Adelaide. I was the only girl in a place where there so many boys and what a great time I had at dances! Although we met when I was 21, we had to wait five years to be married because the Depression was just starting and we had no money.” Back in those days, parents were

“I had great difficulty going to dances because my parents just didn’t believe in them,” admitted Phyllis. “The jazz age was just coming in and it was so exciting. I managed to be at one dance though, and that night I met my husband.” Love often came swiftly, as Fran experienced. “The first time I met my husband was at a dance,” she said. “He told his mate that as soon as he saw me he wanted to propose and he did propose that same night! Of course I accepted him straight away and we were married 12 months later." Dances were not the only place that young people fell in love. Hannah had an entirely different experience. “My husband owned coursing dogs and I met him exercising them. We used to go to dances though. I loved the waltzes, the Lancers and the Shot-ese.”

Kath, who had grown up on a property outside Cassilis, had another perspective. “People don’t realise nowadays how hard it was to get in touch with someone you were courting, especially out in the bush,” But nothing could stop the young people from getting together. Dances were held in people’s houses. Betty thoroughly enjoyed these as they were always family affairs. ”I can remember the times that Mum and Dad and the kids would all go down to the Government Dam on Saturdays. The houses had dirt floors and that was where we learned to dance. People would push all the furniture back to the walls and someone would play the violin and the accordian. It might be 12 or 1 o’clock before we would walk all the way back home.” Ossie remembered that householders

”My future husband used to hang around the piano and I thought that, because he liked playing jazz too, that was all he was interested in. After about a year we were married.” The local picture show was always a great place for young lovers, especially on a Saturday night. “I was only 15 when I first met my husband. I loved going to the pictures,” said Dot, “And later I found out that he was the projectionist!” If you had a car, life was a lot easier, although very few people could afford one in those days. Kath admitted to some difficulties even with a car, “We had a 1936 Vauxhall and I thought it was wonderful, even when it rained and we all got soaking wet.” They may have had less freedom and even less money than to-day’s generation, but again, to quote an old song, “Love makes the world go round”. And it did, no matter where or when you lived.

Trang is certainly not short of ambition and has the work ethic to see her dreams through. From small beginnings selling Vietnamese jerky at local markets, Trang has invested in her own food truck, opened a Summer Street restaurant, and also operates a thriving business in the Orange City Centre Food Court. Not one to sit still, she has rebranded her Summer Street store Trang’s Kitchen (formerly Trang Hue) and expanded the menu offerings and extended trading hours to give Orange a taste of the food from her hometown near the city of Hue. “Everywhere in Vietnam the food is similar, but some like the food sweeter, some like it lighter, but I think Hue and Hoi An do the best food in Vietnam!” said Trang, whose menu is especially suitable for sharing. “In Vietnam we usually sit down and eat

“Chicken lemongrass — a lot of people order that one — lemongrass with beef, lemongrass with pork, grilled pork chop with rice, the steamed pork belly and crispy pork are popular too, and a lot of people love our papaya salad, so we have a lot of options,” said Trang.

Orange Electrical Works quickly expanded to establish a branch in Bathurst in 1925. In that same year Michael Sanifer left the business. In Orange, the business added appliance and auto electrical repairs to their services and later refrigeration and air-conditioning. The outbreak of World War II, saw a number of staff members leave to join the war effort and caused work to dry up, but business boomed in the following decades. They relocated their premises to the corner of Summer and Sale Streets, opening a retail shop front with a workshop out back. The shop remained open until 1972, with the workshop remaining until 1981 when the business relocated to its current address at Barrett Court. OB Green died in the 1962, and the Managing Director role passed to his son John, who was David Boulton’s first boss “I started as an apprentice in 71 and I’m still here 50 years on! I worked with John for nearly 25 years, until he retired in 1995,” said David, who purchased the business off John with his wife Nerralie.

“They actually had them all working,” said David Boulton,

The ceiling, walls and floor of the octagonal room are fully mirrored and edged with blue LED lights, the effect being that the space appears to stretch into infinity in every direction.

John remained interested in the business until he passed away in 2016. He was very well respected in the industry and under his leadership Orange Electrical Works undertook a large amount of technical work around the state, including lift repairs, large air-conditioning systems and cool stores, power generation systems and much more.

The design of the room is based on the principles of sacred geometry, explains Juan-Pierre (JP) Rossouw, who with his partner Jessica Musto is the founder of Genesis Blu Wellness — the first Blu Room therapy treatment centre in Australia.

“We still do larger electrical work, lifts and escalator repairs and maintenance which are things other people don’t want to do, some commercial catering equipment repairs and inhome repairs and those sorts of things,” said David. Small appliance repairs, once a large part of the business, are a thing of the past as it is no longer economical to do so.

“We saw the Blu Room overseas in the U.S and tried it out,” says Jessica.

"Solar installation and air condition are a major part of the business today," said David. And, just as the business has always adapted to changes in the past, Orange Electrical Works is always on the lookout for new business opportunities.

“We both liked our experiences and knew that technologies like these are the future of wellness so we thought wouldn’t it be great to open one in Australia?”

“We’ve just taken on the Solahart agency here in Orange for solar power and solar hot water systems,” he said.

With a license for the US-patented technology, JP and Jessica are now offering Blu Room therapy from their home which is set on tranquil grounds on the wooded slopes of Mount Canobolas.

“We can build on that, as it hasn’t been pushed a great deal in this area before… And air conditioning, we have bit of work in that area, there’s always demand for that and we just keep an eye out for electrical contracts that come out.”

“It is essentially a relaxation room,” says JP. “For Wellness, we believe the mind comes first and if you can fix the mind your body will follow. You know, if you are anxious, if you are stressed out it can negatively affect your

Bordering the Mount Canobolas State Recreation Area, high up on Old Canobolas Road, the location of Genesis Blu Wellness is itself a calming experience.

During each 20-minute session in the Blu Room, you remain fully clothed with eye protection and are exposed to controlled doses of UVB Narrowband light from lamps mounted on the walls. Initially the lights are on for just three minutes, with the exposure gradually increased over repeated visits.

Set in beautiful bushland, it is also the home of JP, Jessica and their daughter Maya and there is a welcoming, family feel to the place. “This place became available and it is just perfect”, says the couple, who has bigger plans for the future of Genesis Blu Wellness. ”We want to incorporate the Blu Room with other wellness modalities.”

Founded by Oliver Bolam Green with Michael Sanifer, Orange Electrical Works actually preceded the arrival of electrical power to Orange homes and businesses by two years. In those early days, OB (as he was known) built and repaired batteries which were charged on kerosene generators, he also specialised in magneto repairs — magnetos then being vital for engine ignitions, telephones and early forms of electric lighting. OB also carried out a successful electroplating trade.

“They also had commercial electrical things like pumps and motors and there was a thing called ‘X-Ray lighting — nothing to do with x-rays, but X-Ray lighting was the thing to have in your shop windows. It brought out the true colours, so it said.”

ORANGE GARDEN CLUB INC was first begun in 1993 by a group of ladi es who had long been sharing their pleasur e and expertise in gardening. They decided to make it more official and invite other interes ted parties to join. The club became incorpo rated and affiliated with The Garden Clu bs of Australia. This gives us insurance cover whenever we are on garden club business. It also gives us access to Garden Clubs of Australia fun ctions. We have a membership, at pre sent, of over 100. Now, we encourage men to join as well. We have long been aware that the pleasures of gardening do not belong to wom en alone. Our meetings are held on the first Friday of the month. In winter, they are indoors, from May to September, usually with a guest speaker. We have been holdin g these meetings at Duntryleague and many me mbers stay on after the meeting to enjoy lun ch in the restaurant. In summer, we look for garden s to visit, from October to March. Each memb er brings a chair and a hat. Most of the owners of these beautiful gardens will allow our members to bring a picnic and stay in the garden for lunch. December is our Christmas Par ty, July our

A.G.M. and January we have a brea k, returning to meetings in February. Unfortunately, with Covid, we had to cancel all meetings in 2020, but now we are up and running again. Another of our pleasures, is visiting gardens and venues away from Orange. The se may be day trips or further afield. Some of us have travelled interstate, or overseas, as a group, to look at some magnificent gardens . We are fortunate to have a designated Tou rism Officer to plan and organise these trips for us. Apart from our formal meetings, we have a regular coffee morning where we come together, primarily for a gossip, and of course, a cup of coffee and a cake. New members are always welcom e, our membership is never static. People leave the district and new residents arrive. If you wish to join as a couple, your members hip fees are reduced. Man from IronBark Festival Not long now to Stuart Towns biggest and greatest event, the 2021 Man from Ironbark Festival. Final preparations are being made and with this recent rain, the village is going to look a treat for this marvellous event. Electric Cars from Dubbo and Classic Cars from Orange will be making the trek to be a part of the Ironbark Car Show. We will also have the RFS on board as well as heritage machinery on display. This show is truly unique, and we do encourage anyone who would like to show off their toys, to come along and join the fun. Just follow the signs and be at the festival by 10.30am A Prospectors Activity Centre will be up and running. This centre will give the kids the chance to find some “Gold” as well as giving mum and dad the opportunity to discuss all things prospecting with the experts on site. It is Easter after all, so no event is complete without a visit from our friendly fury friend. The Easter Bunny will be on site to help the kids in an Easter Egg Hunt as well as looking over some great Easter Hat Bonnets and Teddy Bears during the special “Hat and Bear Parade. So, kids bring those bonnets that you used at school as well as your favourite teddy bear and join the fun. Plenty of Easter Eggs will be on hand for the kids. Ever wondered what a snake’s skin feels like? At this year’s festival you get the chance to feel one. There will be reptile shows happening all day where you can get

up close and learn about native wildlife. There is even the opportunity to concur your fear and hold lizards, crocodiles and friendly pythons. From the Gold Coast, Luke’s Reptile Kingdom amazing venomous snake show will be performing all day long. It’s a great chance to see unusual wildlife in a safe setting while learning important snake awareness. Discover ways to discourage snakes from occupying your property, what to do if you see a wild snake and how to survive a snake bite. Feeling hungry, well there will be plenty of food available. Ranging from Steak and Sausage sandwiches to American Styled Hamburgers & Fries. Pizzas as well as Coffee, cakes, and ice-creams will also be available. You will not go hungry while exploring the wide variety of Market Stalls. Stalls range from ladies and men fashion, jewellery, toys and collectables plus much more. There will be something for everyone, so come along and bag that bargain. This is a Covid-19 safe event with QR sign in required and COVID marshals onsite. So, all roads lead to Stuart Town this Easter Saturday, 3rd April, travel along Burrendong Way and follow the signs to the Recreational Ground. Gates open at 8.30am with a $2 entry fee. The local Iranian community celebrated the Persian New Year on Saturday March 20. One local gathering included 22 people, consisting of families from Orange and Bathurst. The New Year begins at the vernal equinox, when the sun crosses the equator, this year it occurred at 8.37pm AEDT. Around the world millions of families of Iranian decent gathered around ceremonial tables known as the Haft-seen. The Haft-seen table is decorated with seven items. Seven is considered a lucky number. Each item begins with the letter sin(s) in Persian, and each item is a symbol of spring and renewal (as

this is the beginning of spring in the northern hemisphere).
