DOWN WHAT’S DELISH AT LOCAL WINERIES?
Happy Harvest to All! We have released our 2024 Shannon Hill Red. A blend of 50% Cabernet Franc and 50% Petit Verdot. Notes of black raspberry, cherry and fresh violet with a soft mineral finish. It will go well with barbecued beef and red-sauced Italian dishes! Medium bodied with supple tannins. We are working through our vineyards, and most varieties have recovered well from the April freeze which makes us hopeful for this year’s harvest, even though it will be lower than expected. And as always in farming, we look forward to next year! We hope to see you at the winery. Our wines are not from a recipe. But in cooperation with nature, our wines are built on elegance and nuance through our winemaker’s knowledge and intuition. We are a winery that just wants to be a winery. And if that is not enough, you’ll meet our friendly and wine enthusiastic, tasting room staff! Fall Seafood Saturday at DuCard Oh yeah! Our Fall Seafood Saturday at DuCard Vineyards is back! Nomini Bay Oyster Ranch will be providing the freshest and most delicious oysters from the Northern Neck: raw, steamed, grilled, and grilled with toppings. MERRIE MILL FARM AND VINEYARD 2024 Reserve Petit Verdot We’re thrilled to present our 2024 Petit Verdot — a bold red that thrives in Virginia’s unique climate and soils. This exceptional vintage received special treatment: over a year of French oak barrel aging followed by additional bottle rest to marry the flavors. On the nose and palate, it opens with concentrated dark stewed fruits — black cherry and plum — that segue into an earthy, savory midpalate. Gentle waves of toasted French oak lend soft vanilla and a whisper of baking spice, while fine-grained tannins and a lingering blackpepper finish give structure and length.
