The CVE has long been associated with the goanna – or more specifically, with Tom Hungerford’s “Goanna Track to Success”. Tom’s theory was that the key to success was to identify an area of interest and devote time to it, listening, learning and building what he called a “tree of knowledge”.
Now, anyone familiar with a goanna can attest to the speed and agility with which they can scale a tree – to utilise Tom’s “Goanna Track” is to construct the tree and ascend it like a goanna. But once up the tree the goanna doesn’t decide to spend the rest of its life in the canopy; it takes what it can, then returns to the ground and finds another tree. Tom’s point was that climbing that tree offered a unique vantage point from which other opportunities for growth and development could be identified.
It is in this spirit that the CVE continues to offer courses in many different aspects of veterinary practice, in forms that suit everyone – whether you have a spare hour, day, month or year to invest in building your tree of knowledge. The CVE is dedicated to empowering the veterinary profession through education: enhancing confidence, competence, wellbeing and welfare globally.
FROM THE DIRECTOR
Welcome to 2026 at the Centre for Veterinary Education.
If we were sitting over coffee, I’d start by saying this: CVE exists to help you make the most of your CPD, in ways that are meaningful, and directly relevant to your professional growth. In my first year as Director, I’ve been reminded again and again that what makes CPD truly valuable is not just content, it’s how it’s delivered, applied, and shared.
CVE is a member‑focused, not‑for‑profit organisation grounded in academic research based at the University of Sydney with a global reach and deeply practical courses. But at CVE, you benefit from more than courses. You have access to educators who are both leaders in their field and expert teachers who work with the CVE education team to craft engaging and impactful learning experiences. You also can rely on a dedicated and responsive customer service team – real people who are available by phone or email to answer your enquiries and to ensure a smooth, positive experience across the whole organisation. Together, the CVE team ensure your CPD time is well spent and impactful.
In 2025, we celebrated our 60th Anniversary, and the stories we’ve captured from veterinarians who’ve participated in our Distance Education courses show exactly how CPD can support meaningful work, transform practice, and improve patient care. You’ll find some of these inspiring stories in this handbook – use them as motivation to take your learning further this year.
Looking ahead, we’re bringing fresh perspectives and smarter course design to your learning. The goal isn’t flashy tech – it’s to make learning engaging and relevant, so you can learn faster, retain more, and connect more deeply with peers and educators.
You’ll find over 110 courses in this handbook – as you explore, identify what excites you, challenges you, and will make the biggest difference in your work – then take action. No matter the time of year, this handbook is here to guide you. Use it to plan, discover, and make learning an ongoing part of your professional journey. We’re excited to support you every step of the way.

2026 T. G. HUNGERFORD AWARD RECIPIENT
ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR CHRIS TAN
We’re delighted to announce Chris as the 2026 recipient of this prestigious award for his extraordinary contribution to continuing veterinary education with an incredibly balanced commitment to academic rigour, clinical excellence and inspiring educational leadership in surgery.
CVE Director Kate Patterson had the pleasure of presenting the award to Chris. The framing features a silver coin engraved with a Goanna, the CVE’s enduring motif, paying tribute to Tom’s guiding philosophy: “Follow the Goanna Track to Success.”
"I’m so honoured to receive this Hungerford Award for contributions to Clinical Education. My journey started as an undergraduate wanting to be a clinician, but my path crossed with some amazing educators who really left a lasting impression and who showed me that academic practice could involve not just clinical work but research and most importantly educating the next generation.
When I think about how we can improve our profession on a global scale, it’s not equipment and it’s not implants, its education which is a rate limiting step in many parts of the world. In Australia we are spoiled for choice and the CVE has long been the centre of continuing education for practicing veterinarians and I really look forward to seeing what the future holds for this great organisation. For those of you attending courses or teaching courses, I want you to recognise the huge impact you have not just here in Australia but globally as well.

We’re delighted to announce Dr Merryl Gamble (WA) as the recipient of the 2026 CVE Scholarship. Established in 2025, our 60th anniversary year, it celebrates how participation in continuing education helps to elevate practice and to acknowledge CVE members, the backbone of our organisation for six decades.
Merryl used the CVE$8,000 scholarship prize to participate in our 2026-27 Feline Medicine Distance Education course.
Thank you to all our members who applied for this scholarship.
"I am delighted to have been awarded this CVE Continuing Education Scholarship. When I opened the email, I was in shock and completely “over the moon”. I have been a continuous member of the CVE (formally the Post Graduate Foundation) since my graduation in 1994, from the University of Melbourne. I have always enjoyed reading the C&T Series publication and have greatly benefitted from attending CVE conferences. After moving to Perth in 2013, I have completed many helpful CVE TimeOnline courses and webinars.
I have enjoyed a long veterinary career thus far, but always feel I can learn more. Having been awarded this scholarship, I can now enroll in a Distance Education course which I would not have considered possible before. After 32 years working in mixed and small animal practice, I still thoroughly enjoy being a vet, and the ongoing learning that is essential. I am passionate about cats and have used this scholarship to enroll in the Feline Medicine Distance Education course this year.
Thank you CVE!

“I joined the CVE (then the PGF) as a student last millennium, and I think was considered a bit of a nuisance as I attended so many of the week-long conferences and, looking back, showed my ignorance by asking so many questions that experience would later answer anyway. The format and the speakers have changed but the functionality of the information gained and knowledge disseminated has not.
I have particularly benefited from, and always enjoy, the C&Ts that are published so regularly and of such high quality. I can attest that as an occasional author of some of these pieces, it is gratifying that the editors are hugely supportive, of even some of my oddest observations.
I’ve never been able to suggest an improvement that wasn’t already in the pipeline—now that’s the CVE being ahead of the game.
In a nutshell: Join in, keep up and enjoy the company. The CVE is the one place where ‘vitnery’ matters more than the bottom line.”

THE C&T SERIES
WRITTEN BY & FOR VETS
The Control & Therapy (C&T) Series has, for more than 55 years, captured the real texture of veterinary life. Well-told cases that reveal not just diagnoses, but uncertainty, decision-making and the lived complexity of practice. In an age of instant information and overwhelming noise, C&T remains a trusted, communitydriven resource that slows us down and reconnects us with meaningful, experience-based learning.
To preserve and elevate this legacy, C&T will undergo an ambitious digital transformation in 2026, made possible by a generous gift from long-time C&T contributor and veterinarian Dr Kim Kendall. This project is designed to expand access to the world’s most comprehensive repository of contextualised veterinary care.
“I enjoy reading the C&T more than any other veterinary publication.”

Rabbits and rodents are becoming increasingly common pets in today’s society.
These patients have a profound, innate ability to mask signs of disease. The consequence of this is that they frequently present in a critical condition and require emergency care. This ability to hide clinical illness, combined with their small size and susceptibility to significant stress, can make them challenging creatures to treat.
This course aims to introduce the veterinary clinician to the principles of assessment, triage and stabilisation of rabbit and rodent emergencies. The first module outlines physical exam and diagnostic testing in critical patients. The second module discusses clinical consequences encountered in critical patients and their appropriate management.

Learning isn’t just about content, formal courses or textbooks. It also happens when people share stories, collaborate, and reflect together.
As veterinarians, we are experts at caring for others, solving problems, and navigating complexity. But we are not always expert at pausing to savour the joy and connection that come with that work. The Vet Cookbook II invites us to do just that. On behalf of CVE, I thank the editors, contributors, designers, and everyone who poured their passion into this project. May its pages remind us that nourishment comes in many forms and that the most meaningful kind is often shared.

Ferret ownership has changed considerably since their early days of domestication. Now, many households keep ferrets as much-loved pets and are considered cherished members of the family.
With ferret ownership continuing to grow, this rising popularity and perceived value has naturally driven an increase in clients seeking high standards of veterinary care for these animals. As such, it is important for veterinarians to understand how to examine and provide care for ferrets and to be familiar with the common conditions encountered in ferrets, including diagnosis and management of such conditions.
Ferrets are unique in many ways. It is easy to see why they make such popular pets; with their playful, energetic and quirky personalities, they make for endless entertainment. Additionally, they are often affectionate animals, forming strong attachments with their owners. Ferrets are also prone to a number of health conditions.

Avian Patients: Assessment & Diagnosis
Tutor
Bob Doneley BVSc FANZCVS (Avian Medicine)
Many veterinarians, when confronted with an avian patient, feel out of their depth and uncomfortable – perhaps feeling that their level of knowledge about these unique patients somehow makes them unqualified to approach them with confidence.
This course aims to not only provide veterinary staff with the information they need to work up an avian patient, but also to help them realise that it is simply an extension of the principles they have already been taught (and use every day) in the assessment of patients of (more orthodox) species.

“You don’t need to be in a big city to make a big impact”
Dr Emma Billing
BVSc (Hons) MANZCVS (Veterinary Behaviour) F Cert ECC Armidale Vet Clinic
Working in and around major cities, it’s easy to forget that not every practice can refer cases “up the road”. For many practices across Australia, the nearest referral centre can be five or more hours away.
Dr Emma Billing owns one such practice. Working in Armidale, she sees distance not as a limitation, but as an opportunity for growth.
Dr Billing loves learning new things and values the variety that regional practice offers. She makes it a priority to continually upskill herself and her team so they can provide high-quality services to their regional clients across a wide range of disciplines and species.
“My rabbit needs a dental”
When local hospitals started referring rabbits to her clinic (Dr Billing is still not quite sure why), she knew she needed to update her small mammal skills.
“I’m of the vintage where we got bugger all exotics stuff at uni.”
Rather than seeing this as a hurdle, Dr Billing completed the CVE Rabbit Dentistry workshop.
“I enjoy learning new things and offering a wide range of services to my clients because referral is so far away.”
While she may not have set out to become the region’s ‘go-to’ rabbit vet, her willingness to learn and adapt means even her smallest patients are in capable hands.
Have an animal that is fearful of veterinary settings?
Dr Billing’s interest in animal behaviour began at home with what she affectionately calls a “special edition” pet. Wanting to better support her new family member, curiosity quickly led her deeper into the subject.
That curiosity led her to complete the CVE Behavioural Medicine Distance Education course, and eventually to earn Memberships in Animal Behaviour.
“Behavioural Medicine DE course was pretty comprehensive as a base for preparation for Memberships. There was a lot of self-directed study and rabbit holes to go down after the DE, but it definitely set the foundations nicely.”
Dr Billing believes behaviour is an often-overlooked part of veterinary medicine, despite its power to improve outcomes for animals and their people. Since studying, she has transformed the way her hospital supports fearful patients.
Her team works at each animal’s pace, using relationship-based care and early chemical support when needed. The results speak for themselves:
“I haven’t muzzled a dog in years.”
She recalls one German Shepherd who had bitten every vet he had seen before:
“Over the course of four years, we developed trust and now I am able to perform a full physical exam, otic examinations and even draw blood from him.”
Always looking ahead
Always thinking ahead, Dr Billing enrolled in further cardiology training when she learned her nearest echocardiography service was leaving the region, with the aim of offering this care locally.
As a regional vet, she has turned distance into opportunity, growing her skills and fostering a clinic culture that prioritises animal welfare and team confidence.
Her story shows that you don’t need to be in a big city to make a big impact.

Canine Aggression: Approach & Management
TimeOnline OnDemand
What to do when presented with a case of canine aggression and why?
Tutor Sally
There are numerous myths surrounding canine aggression. Many veterinarians do not feel confident providing advice to owners about an aggressive dog. Without appropriate advice, owners may seek help from the internet or other sources that may be unreliable or not evidence-based. As a result, animal welfare can be severely compromised, and human and animal safety can be at risk.
In this course, you will learn why dogs exhibit aggression, both in the veterinary clinic and in other situations, so that you can provide immediate advice as well as develop a long-term management program.

How one course expanded Dr Tai’s vision
Choosing to invest in further education after graduation is a big decision. With so many courses and providers available, it’s natural to question whether the commitment of time and money will truly be worthwhile.
Dr Penny Tai has been practising veterinary science in Taiwan since 1991. With a strong interest in behavioural medicine, he enrolled in CVE’s Behavioural Medicine Distance Education course to further develop his understanding of behaviour and its role in clinical practice.
“The course guides you and extends your knowledge and abilities to the maximum,” Dr Tai says.
“The more you read, the bigger your vision will be.”
That idea of expanding vision has stayed with him. Since completing the course, Dr Tai has gone on to found the Asia Veterinary Behaviour Medicine Association, launch PennyAcademy to deliver feline behaviour education to cat owners and trainers, and provide behavioural medicine training to dog trainers through Canine and Feline Behavioural Inc. He has also travelled internationally in pursuit of further learning in behavioural medicine.
In 2025, Dr Tai returned to the Behavioural Medicine DE course in a new capacity, volunteering his time to support current participants, particularly those working through assignments or research.
“As someone from Taiwan, English is not my first language, yet I’ve managed to complete this course,” he explains.
“I often tell students, ‘If I can do it, so can you.’”
For Dr Tai, behavioural medicine reaches far beyond dedicated behaviour consults.
“I believe behaviour is one of the most important sciences every veterinarian should be equipped with. Understanding animal behaviour doesn’t just help us address behavioural issues — it improves how we manage everyday situations in general practice.”
Dr Tai’s story reflects how ongoing education can influence the direction of a career, open unexpected opportunities, and support meaningful contributions to the profession.

When the right path finds YOU
Careers aren’t always planned.Sometimes they unfold through moments of serendipity.
For Dr Callum Bennie, leaning into his strengths, following his curiosity and building connections with supportive mentors led him to a career in veterinary dermatology that he LOVES.
Veterinary dermatology was not on Dr Bennie’s radar in veterinary school. Rather, his interest in the field developed naturally during his early career as a general practitioner:
“In my new grad year, I accidentally became the ‘skin guy’,” he says.
“But I was OK with that. I found such satisfaction in seeing long-term skin patients improve once I investigated why they were having issues. I loved seeing the patient get better — and the difference that made for the whole family.”
At his next clinic, the pattern continued.
“I naturally started seeing more and more skin cases. My team knew I enjoyed derm, and reception would book all the skin cases in my column.”
Still unsure whether dermatology was his long-term path, Dr Bennie undertook a Medicine Internship at the Animal Referral Hospital. There, he noticed that many complex medical cases had a dermatological component, bringing him into close contact with dermatologist Dr Dani Hoolahan.
“She planted the seed,” he says — a seed that would grow into mentorship, collaboration and eventually partnership.
True to his self-described Type A nature, Dr Bennie didn’t rush. He joined the SASH Dermatology journal club, spent one day a week shadowing Dr Hoolahan, and enrolled in CVE’s year-long Dermatology Distance Education course. Alongside locum work in general practice, these experiences confirmed both his interest and his commitment.
Residency opportunities weren’t available in Australia at the time, so Dr Bennie looked overseas. With the support of Dr Hoolahan and CVE tutors Dr Ralf Müller and Dr Sonya Bettenay, he successfully matched with his first-choice residency at Colorado State University.
“They were instrumental in my career development,” he says.
Following his return to Australia post-COVID, Dr Bennie rejoined Dr Hoolahan at the Veterinary Dermatology Clinic. More recently, they’ve helped establish Medipaws, a new specialist hospital focused on exceptional patient care and a sustainable, supportive workplace for veterinary teams.
Dr Bennie remains deeply committed to his GP colleagues.
“I get it. I was a GP for many years and referred a bunch of patients out the door every day. I knew who I liked to refer to and why I liked to work with them. I try to incorporate those attributes into the way I practice now. I don’t judge, I pick up the phone to call referring vets back and I answer emails whenever I can because that was what was important to me as a GP.”
Today, he also gives back as a tutor in CVE’s Dermatology Distance Education course — the same program that helped shape his own path.
Dr Bennie’s story reflects how curiosity, mentorship and education can quietly shape a career — and how sharing knowledge strengthens the profession as a whole.

Writing her own script
Dr Lyddy van Gyen grew up in rural South Australia in a large family, with her father, ‘JB’, working as the local veterinarian. It might seem inevitable that she would follow in his footsteps — but Dr van Gyen has never been one to follow a predictable path.
Before veterinary school, she launched into a very different career: as a stunt performer. For around five years, she worked in Australia and overseas on feature films, television commercials and documentary productions, performing stunts including horse riding, fight scenes, driving and body doubling. With a lifelong love of animals, sport, fitness and all things equine, the role suited her perfectly.
When it was time to step out of the spotlight, Dr van Gyen transitioned behind the camera, spending the next 20 years working as a Camera Assistant and Operator. On many productions, she wore two hats — one as a ‘stuntie’ and another as part of the camera team.
Even while studying Biochemistry and Tropical Ecology at James Cook University, she remained connected to the film industry, spending university breaks working on productions to support herself and stay fit. Along the way, she also became a qualified personal trainer, barista and Level 1 NCAS (Equestrian) coach.
Only then did she complete her Bachelor of Veterinary and Medical Science at Murdoch University, graduating in 2017.
In her final two years of study, Dr van Gyen co-founded the Murdoch Travelling Vets interest group, creating opportunities to volunteer in South Africa alongside wildlife veterinarians working with species including rhino, zebra, antelope, kudu, wild dog, cheetah and lions. She also travelled to India to participate in surgery clinics. A self-confessed Africophile, she continues to seek opportunities to return.
For the past 8+ years, Dr van Gyen has worked in rural mixed practice, with a strong focus on continual learning — not only to build her own confidence and skills, but to better support her clients, patients and colleagues.
That commitment led her to enrol in CVE’s Diagnostic Imaging Distance Education courses. Starting with Thoracic Imaging, Dr van Gyen returned to complete the “set” by adding the Abdominal and Musculoskeletal Imaging to her toolkit.
“Before the courses, I would often second-guess myself. Now, I approach each case with a more systematic mindset. I am more confident in recommending diagnostic imaging to my clients, feeling that I am better equipped to accurately interpret results and provide a more informed plan going forward.”
The courses have also strengthened her ability to support colleagues.
“There will always be the ‘head-scratching’ cases, but having a little extra insight can only be a plus.”
As a mature-aged graduate, Dr van Gyen understands that committing to CPD isn’t always straightforward. She values the flexibility offered by CVE, particularly when balancing rural practice demands and life outside work.
“Extensions or deferrals are available if needed. If you have a difficult work schedule or are managing a family or other time constraints, the CVE offers so much flexibility.”
Her advice to others considering CPD is simple:
“If there is a topic you are even the slightest bit interested in, just go for it! There is nothing to lose — challenge yourself. You will always know more than you did before you started, and it is absolutely worth the time and money.”
With future plans that include locum work in Australia and overseas, volunteering, and a return to Africa to support wildlife conservation, Dr van Gyen’s career continues to evolve — guided by curiosity, courage and a willingness to take the road less travelled.
One thing is certain: her story already has all the elements of a feature film.

Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) has transformed veterinary medicine, yet many machines in general practice remain underutilised. Diagnostic confidence increases in 89.2% of cases when GPs add bedside POCUS to their evaluation — a compelling reason to put your ultrasound unit to work.
By asking simple, clinically relevant yes/no questions, veterinary POCUS is rapid to learn and easy to apply in almost any setting. This practical, hands-on workshop will help you move beyond locating the bladder for urine samples and start using ultrasound to meaningfully guide daily patient assessment and management.
Using live dogs and phantom models, you will learn and practise the core POCUS techniques used to assess the abdomen, pleural space, lung, and heart, along with ultrasound-guided vascular access. The lab focuses on instructor-developed methods that improve diagnostic accuracy and make POCUS integration into everyday practice both achievable and effective. Basic machine functions and probe handling will also be briefly reviewed.

Multidisciplinary Insights with a Case-Based Approach Conference
Speakers:
Drs Jane Day, Mary Thompson, Claire Sharp & Mark Glyde
Join us in Sydney for this truly integrated approach to diagnostic imaging. After exceptional feedback in 2025 our expert panel returns - Dr Jane Day, Dr Mark Glyde, Dr Mary Thompson and Dr Claire Sharp – to once again unpack real-world internal medicine, ECC and musculoskeletal cases, all anchored by a thorough, systematic approach to diagnostic imaging.
Attendees last year said that the panelled discussions exposed critical thinking insights and a problem-based, spectrum of care approach to cases that was unlike any other CPD conference they had attended and worth attending every year.
This time we have expanded the focus on the systematic approach to diagnostic imaging and all participants will also be given complimentary access to Animal Imaging learning materials prior to the conference.
If you want to strengthen your clinical decision-making and learn how to capture and interpret imaging that truly guides patient care then this is the conference to attend – whether its your first time or you’re coming back for more.

Neurology is often considered a challenging specialty. It is therefore often assumed that neurology cases can only be managed in specialty referral hospitals. In contrast to popular belief, many small animal neurology patients can however be successfully managed in a first opinion setting. Recognising the neurological nature and characterizing the clinical problem are the most important aspects of clinical neurology.
During this course we hope to break down some of the barriers associated with neurology. We will discuss the absolute minimum of neuro-anatomy you should know, how to perform a neuro-exam in practice, and how to recognize the most likely differential diagnoses without expensive and advanced diagnostics. The concept of problem-based clinical reasoning will be central in answering the most important clinical questions.

Dr Kayoko Kuroda BVSc MANZCVS (Small Animal Dentistry & Oral)
Why our tutors choose the CVE
One of the greatest compliments the CVE receives is when our tutors choose to study with us. The exceptional Dr Kayoko Kuroda is one such tutor.
Dr Kayoko’s journey with the CVE started a few years after graduation, when she enrolled in the Feline Medicine Distance Education course, led at that stage by Dr Richard Malik, the Valentine Charlton Consultant in Feline Medicine. The experience was so positive that Dr Kayoko later became a tutor with us:
“What makes CVE truly special is the people. The educators are passionate and skilled, and the CVE team values individuals for their experience and contribution, not just their qualifications. At the CVE I feel welcomed, included and supported. The team really provides a personal touch.”
Dr Kayoko continues to study with the CVE. When asked why she chooses the CVE for her own CPD, Dr Kayoko says:
“The CVE consistently delivers continuing education that is relevant, engaging and of the highest quality. I love connecting with people, so I make the most of the discussion forums.”
Most recently, she completed the CVE’s Anaesthesia: Fundamentals Distance Education short course:
“General anaesthesia is absolutely critical for dentistry. However, some of my patients have significant comorbidity. Since dental disease can be a serious welfare concern, I wanted to have a better understanding of anaesthesia for my patients so I can provide better outcomes.”
In addition to course content, Dr Kayoko gains valuable teaching insights from her tutors:
“I am a naturally curious person, and I am always polishing my teaching skills. Every tutor has a different style, and I like being able to observe how they interact with course participants. My teaching is also my learning, and I gain tremendous insights from both participants and fellow veterinarians.”
Dr Kayoko’s experience shows that CVE is about more than education. It’s a collaborative, supportive community where veterinarians can learn, teach, and grow, together.
Currently Kayoko tutors multiple CVE courses: Surgical Dentistry for Cats & Dogs Workshop Principles of Veterinary Dentistry: Theory & Techniques TimeOnline

Dr Mitchell always knew she would return to Gunnedah. After graduating in 2016, she took a role in a neighbouring town before coming home.
“It was a baptism of fire,” she says.
“I was left to figure everything out myself. The practice owners were always out on call, and I couldn’t reach anyone when I needed help because there was no phone reception.”
By the time she returned to Gunnedah, mentorship was still limited and the clinic was outdated.
“I was flying blind. I wasn’t practising the level of medicine I wanted to.”
With three young children, a husband settled locally and on-call responsibilities that made commuting impossible, burnout followed. In 2022, Dr Mitchell took a leap of faith and bought the clinic.
“It was pretty wild,” she laughs.
“I had a one-year-old, a three-year-old and a four-year-old, and I was working full-time while trying to keep the clinic running.”
Outdated systems quickly became apparent.
“We were still using cat gut!”
With the nearest specialist surgeon four hours away, Dr Mitchell and her team regularly manage severe trauma and complex surgical cases on site.
“These animals aren’t stable enough to transfer. We have to do the surgery here.”
To support the level of care she wanted to provide, Dr Mitchell enrolled in CVE’s Surgery Distance Education course.
“I love learning. Just because we’re in a small regional area doesn’t mean we should be limited. We have the opportunity to do more and offer a bigger service.”
Since starting the course, she’s seen tangible change.
“We’ve used skin advancement and closure techniques to manage big wounds. Before, we figured it out by doing it — now I know better ways. I want my new grads to learn without having to make the same mistakes I did.”
Today, the clinic has grown to six full-time veterinarians, with shared on-call and a strong focus on continuing education.
“I want my team to upskill. We schedule it in and make it happen.”
Dr Mitchell’s leadership reflects what’s possible in regional practice when learning, support and mentorship are prioritised — not just for patients, but for the people delivering their care.
Provide better outcomes for all your surgical patients and enhance your confidence in tackling more complex surgeries.
Each participant will now attend two 2-day practical workshops, giving participants even more time to build confidence and refine their surgical skills.

Essential ChatGPT Knowledge for Veterinarians
Tutor
Candice Chu
DVM PhD DACVP (Clin Path)
AI can help clinics, but only when it’s chosen and implemented with purpose. Leading veterinary AI expert, Dr Adele Williams-Xavier gives vets and leaders a first-principles method for using AI: start with the job to be done, map the workflow, identify bottlenecks, and decide whether AI is actually the best solution. This session won’t make you an AI expert, but it will give you a practical way to decide where AI fits in your clinic and how to test tools safely.
Burnout in veterinary medicine is often framed as long hours and heavy caseloads, but the hidden drivers are just as critical. Exclusion, lack of reasonable adjustments, and unsafe disclosure cultures quietly increase stress, erode resilience, and push talented people out of the profession.
In this webinar, participants will gain practical strategies, scripts, and leadership tools to reduce risk, foster belonging, and create teams that are safer, stronger, and more sustainable.
Feline gingivostomatitis is a debilitating disease, but emerging therapies are offering new hope for affected cats. Join Dr Andrea Harvey for a webinar exploring novel treatment strategies for feline chronic gingivostomatitis through a spectrum of care approach.
Led by an expert in veterinary medicine and animal welfare science, this session will highlight cutting-edge research, including the integration of antiviral agents and precision therapies. Gain insights into improving patient outcomes while balancing welfare considerations in clinical decision-making.
ChatGPT is rapidly becoming an essential assistant in veterinary practice, but many clinicians use only a fraction of its capabilities.
In this webinar, Dr Candice Chu will introduce the fundamental concepts of large language models, prompt engineering, current models, and their unique functions.
Attendees will leave with concrete strategies, ready to build reliable prompts that save time, reduce burnout, and improve the quality and consistency of their daily work.
