Positioned on a prominent Coolbinia corner site, the home engages two streetscapes open and welcoming on one side, softer and more private on the other. Its striking façade pays homage to the Mid-Century home that once stood on the site, with expressive drypressed brickwork, custom steel-framed doors and windows, and a harmonious mix of curves, crisp white surfaces, and dark accents. The effect is refined, striking, and unmistakably Weststyle.

RESTORING the LIGHT Tradition Stained Glass

It may come as a surprise to many to learn that the Perth suburb of Subiaco is believed to have one of the largest collections of residential stained glass in the world. During the gold boom of the late 1800s, when prosperity reshaped Perth’s architectural landscape, stained glass became a form of artistic expression - a way for the emerging middle class to express their prosperity and individuality through the ornamentation of their homes. Among those preserving this specialised artform today is Tradition Stained Glass (TSG), a Perth based studio led by third generation glass artisan Kim Fitzpatrick, whose work has become synonymous with the restoration and recreation of authentic early Federation stained glass.
TSG’s commitment to the craft goes far beyond restoration. Every project begins with careful research to ensure historical accuracy, sourcing original heritage glass wherever possible and recreating traditional methods of hand-painting, firing and leading to ensure that each window not only matches its era but embodies the artistry of the time. When entrepreneur Patrick Coward, founder of Western Australia’s Margaret River Chocolate Company and Coward & Black Vineyards, first stepped through the discreet entrance of Villa Samuan in Seminyak, he wasn’t looking to buy a property… but as he explains… “Everything about Villa Samuan was truly magical,” he recalls. “It had a soul… I fell deeply and profoundly in love with the place.” Conceived by Hans Witt of Amsterdam’s 03 Architects and costume designer Rien Bekkers, Villa Samuan is a striking dialogue between European design precision and Balinese spirit. The estate comprises two villas - Kalih (two bedrooms) and Siki (three bedrooms). which can be combined as an exclusive five-bedroom compound. Each has its own pool, lounge and dining pavilion and separate pool pavilion and each generous bedroom has it’s own ensuite.
